Club Captain

I am pleased to announce that the captain for the North London Poker Club for the season will be Richard Iwaniak.

Richard has been a loyal supporter of APAT who regularly plays both the live events and online.  I feel with this appointment I am getting a 2 for 1 offer, as Richard is one half of a poker partnership.  I won"t get into the discussion of whether Richard or Linda is the better player, but I"m sure they will both support the North London poker club for the coming season.   ;D

Many thanks,

Leigh

Hi there, my postcode is N(R)26 but as East Anglia doesn"t have a club, can I join yours, as it does have an N in it?

Dick Whittington is also my favourite panto, I"ve seen Lock Stock and Snatch and I have been to London by train before, so feel a genuine connection with the Capital!!!!!!!!

Any chance?

your are offical free to join any club but the object of the league for future possilbe events, and to continue the ethos of the APAT you should join your " local " club...try  Luton, in the southern division..got a good team building up too.

WOW Luton is techanically about 10 minutes closer to me than North London but my "local Club", still takes three hours and a 120 plus miles to reach!!!!!!!

Didn"t realise APAT was so picky about which club we could join, especially with it being on-line.

If it"s that much trouble picking a club to represent may just save myself the hassle, time and cash.

Its a close call, Luton or North London really and its up to you which club you want to represent, whichever one you decide to represent will be the club you are in for Season 3.

What hassle is there in selecting your "local" club, and playing for them? The idea of it being a club near to you is that you could possibly represent them in the future if it became a live event. Obviously a bit difficult for you. And also to stop all the APAT superstars turning out for the same team!! ;)

wouldn"t worry about it Andy. As you rightly said, some of us are so far from the nearest actual venue, the notion of supporting our "local" club goes out of the window.  For what its worth, Google maps says Norwich to Luton=100 miles,Norwich to London=115 miles, Norwich to Nottingham=149 miles. A flight from Norwich airport (which I can get to in 5 minutes) to Dublin takes about an hour. I think what"s more important than who someone is representing is that they are taking part in the first place.
Hopefully, my last word on the subject.

Guys,

Let me clarify my stance on this.  You live in an area where both Luton and North London and pretty much your closest clubs.  Therefore, you can join whichever of the two clubs you wish to.  Whichever you choose though, will be your club for the whole of season 3 and you cannot change.

There is an argument that for some in this geographical area, a quick swim and Thanet may be closest.

As for which I would recommend choosing, well I think that they will all be strong candidates for taking this down, along with all of the Southern poker clubs.

So, make your choice and get behind your club.

Hello guys "n" girls,

I dipped my toe into APAT last year, attending the live dublin event.  This year I"m hoping to take a more active role having already qualified for Jan 10th"s online event.

Is this the right place to join your club and what"s expected?

Trying to work out what would be the right team for Richard and I to join. Bricks and mortar wise - is the Vic south or north London? Then also the Western is easy for us to get to...

Is North of the M4 North London and South of the M4 South London?

help............................... confusion reigns  ???

Linda,

I would suggest you could choose either North or South London as your location is pretty much in the middle.

I"ll leave that up to you as both are looking strong for the season.  I look forward to your signing up posts.   ;D

Hope we see you on the Member list  :)

I come from way further afield, chose North London and we seem to have been on a roll since then. There"s strength in depth here and we"re a team who will be committed to fielding numbers of players in this league. I made my choice because I thought I was joining a winning team and I"m convinced this is still the case.
My geography isn"t great but isn"t the Vic in North London?

My vote goes for Kevin Pietersen, now he"s looking for a new Captaincy position.

Loose, aggressive, not easily intimidated and at the top of his game.

Not sure about his poker skills but he"d be good company at the bar.

WOOP WOOP.  ;D  ;D

I wont pretend to know to much about Richards Style of play, but i have spoken to him and he is a great guy. He might not remember but i was chatting to him at one of the regionals last year - i think it was for the manchester leg!

The reason that i got chatting to him - if only for ten minutes - was that my Girlfreind had none other than Richards wife on her left and proceeded to Double her up 10"s (tanya) against kings (Linziwan) sb Vs bb!

Great appointment and i very much look forward to being part of the Winning team!!

North London FTW

Apologies if I"ve missed anyone, but by my reckoning the following North London signees are playing at Walsall:

1)Idrivetractors
2)Antthecat
3)Baldusxnew
4)Linziwan1
5)Travel52nearly
6)1badcalltoomany
7)Kedster2003

I would be both surprised and disappointed if there wasn"t at least one final tablist amongst that lot.
Is everyone travelling there on the day or the night before? Where is everyone staying?

Thanks for your kind words Leigh.  I will endeavour to undertake captaincy role to my utmost ability (limited as though that is).

Firstly, welcome to all team members.  We are looking strong and I am sure we will be a match for most other sides during the National League season.  I look forward to meeting you either virtually or during live events (I note we have at least 7 Walsall participants, sorry to those of you who were unsuccessful in qualifying or click-festing).

Lastly, we all strive to improve our poker skills.  In my view, one way to do this is to play against a variety of players skilled across the whole spectrum.  Therefore if any of your fellow poker playing colleagues are interested in the APAT community, please encourage them to "sign-up".

The top 10 players earn individual points each matchday.

The top 3 teams from each matchday earn 3,2,1 league points.

Unfortunately Norht London finished 4th last night.  So although you earned individual points and cashed, the team didn"t score.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but bearing in mind the top 3 teams go through to the grand final, this is a very fair scoring system.

Hi Carey

Missed you in the league game. I may try to make one or two of the ladies events, depending on venues and dates. But with the way the scoring system  is (with the 5 points for attending and then 1 to 10 extra for making the final table) it makes it very hard for me to actually get up to the top of the rankings. The first year I made two final tables out of the four I played (I think there were only six events) and ended up with less points than somebody who played all the events. As hubby and I are going to be in Las Vegas again this year, I"m not sure.

I"m also deliberately concentrating more on tournaments that have men and ladies in the field.

Hope we"ll see you at an APAT event. When you get your Blue Square account you must try and qualify for them through the satellites - their all good fun :)

Hoepfully will see you on the league tables.

;D

OMG I did it again...i"m a sucky teammate....putting kids to bed and stuff gets in the way on the sunday..but i"m gonna go put my money on now and register for next week :)  I understand about focusing on the other tourneys more...There are 4 new venues this year including one in Spain.  And if ya get 30 points you can get into the online qualifier.

I"ve had my blue square account for over a year now just never play on it..lol But will start now for sure.  I know blacker from our essex home games :)
Well hope we did well tonight couldn"t find the games listed because they must be over already.

So how did everyone get on over the weekend? I"m now 0-5 in terms of day twos reached from tournaments played, so maybe I should stick to writing instead.

Made my first day 2, 1/5 for me, went out in 30th and had a very enjoyable weekend at another great APAT event.

I went out 53rd just after 1am on first day... nearly made day 2. Just one of those tournaments, build a nice stack, loose most of it, build it again, loose it again. Tip for future events for myself.... never get into a pot with a scotsman - I know I"ll loose (and it"ll always be on the river...!) sigh

:D

Good fun on the second day too so well played all who made it.... tried to rail for a while but I get bored soooo easily when watching..... just had to play the afternoon tournment when it started and managed to bubble the final table on that one too..... ggrrrrr

See you in Cardiff

I"m playing on Sunday - lets hope my own team mate doesn"t try to steal my blind with a so so hand, and then suck out on me when he"s called my all in over the top of them.... lol

Not stating we should be playing soft against team mates but there has to be a bit of sense in a league. Especially when that player went on to loose what was a winning position before scoring any points.

A reminder that Leg 2 of the National League takes place this Sunday (15th Feb) at 8pm on BlueSquare.

Registration is now open in the Lobby. To find it, click through to the Tournaments / Specials  / APAT tab.

The password is: leaguepl

So far the following have registered (Blue Square IDs):
rubertoe
1badcall2many4me
anthtecat
linziwan1
travel52nearly
riverasusual

For Leg 1 the team had 21 registrants.  I am sure that we can approach (if not exceed) that number for tomorrow"s tourney.  An updated list will be published closer to the end of registration.

One piece of tactical advice to consider please:
Whilst this is an individual event, it is also a Team event.  Each individual"s contribution is vital to the Team"s chances of qualifying for the final event.  Therefore please use a modicum of judgement when you are actively participating in hands (of dubious strength) against fellow team mates.  Having said that, obvious soft play is unacceptable.

Good luck to all Team participants.

Shouldn"t have bothered really. Nothing at all for the first hour, then with blinds at 75/150, shoved 1800 from mid position with QJ off and got called by the button with AK off. Flop comes Queen high, jack on the turn and I must be psychic because I knew that the river was going to be a ten. I think I"ve just remembered why I prefer playing cash games!

That is me out

KK vs JJ vs AJ all in pre - i had the kings in the big blind - AJ rasied (UTG +1) to 1400 - blinds 200/400 - MP Pushes for 3.1k - I shove over the top for 5.5k total - Kaysing who isnt in the hand says "Call go ftw" (which i think is a bit out of order and i will be bringing this up) and UTG +1 calls and he just has me covered!!

Flop xxA Turn J River x - i am out!

Good luck to all left!!

Richard has lost his internet connection at the moment but as Capt he was able to rail most of the tournament until the final table.

Well played all as a team we didn"t seem to get much luck this week - getting out drawn in most hands. Well played to Shakeyshark (Shaun) unlucky in 11th place. Only move you could make with that hand (pair66s). With Boston calling with the A 10 you were slightly ahead and we were keeping ours fingers crossed, unfortunately he didn"t seem to be missing much and flopping a straight was about average for him tonight. Just outside the points... well played

North London had the best turnout and hopefully our luck will change in two weeks.

See you at the tables

Richard and Linda

Whilst this is an individual event, it is also a Team event.  Each individual"s contribution is vital to the Team"s chances of qualifying for the final event.  Therefore please use a modicum of judgement when you are actively participating in hands (of dubious strength) against fellow team mates.  Having said that, obvious soft play is unacceptable.

Good luck to all Team participants.
