Mate of mine recommended me to this site, I was wondering if anybody has played any of the live events as I was thinking of registering for Walsall in Feb. I would be interested to get some information on the general standard at the events, I have played regularly online for 2 years, had a couple of successful trips to my local casino in Manchester and have won 3 deep stack tournaments on the bounce in my local pub. I am really keen to test myself at a higher level so any feedback would be great.
TIA.

Welcome to the friendly community that is APAT.
If you"re wanting to take your game to the next level and beyond then, imho, APAT is where you need to be.
The standard at the nationals is obviously a mixed one, it being for amateur players, but generally good through to excellent - a great place to learn and improve, and pick up tips and strategies.
Try and get yourself to Walsall, you"ll not regret it.
Ian

Yeh thanks for that mate, I will more than likely register for Walsall, probably take my 19 year old son down with me who I can cheer on after I have been knocked out!!
I see you support Bradford, I miss the days of when you were in the Prem, had a few great curry"s at Akbars on Leeds Road.

Hi Cantona7 welcome to APAT.
To get a feel for the general goings on at APAT National Events, we have a section where you can view the recent live updates of Nationals played in 2008. They make for interesting reading and will also give you, not only a feel for the APAT spirit, but see what happens during them.
The Link is HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0), so pop on over and have a wee read when you have time. There are also several other areas of the forum, which will give you lots of info on what APAT is all about.
Do hope to see you in Walsall, good luck!

Ah, the prem [wipes tear from eyes], memories I shall cherish :D To be honest, we had an extra season up there that we should never have had - Wimbledon going into freefall from the middle of March onwards helped our cause enormously :D Unfortunately, normal service was resumed the following season.....
As for the curries, with the competition being quite fierce, it"s very difficult to get a bad curry in Bradford, but Akbars is a top spot.

You will need to register with Blue Square. Have a read of the info via the links below before signing up via the link that Rob (Manchester Club Captain) posted.
There"s information that you"ll need to look at here: http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2331.0

Welcome to the forum Cantona and good luck in the tourneys. They"re a great bunch and I"m sure you"ll enjoy it.
-
Welcome Cantona, havent realy played at live events YET but if they are anything to go by the forum then they"ll be very good events!
-
welcome cantona,
man utd fan hmmmm lol lol should be fun if they lose :)
-
Cantona7..although it"s an online league, I think the idea is that you join the regional club which is geographically closest to you. As a Yoonited fan I assume you"re from Plymouth, so it"ll better for you if you join their club as I think the plan is to progress to a live league in season 4.
-
Welcome to APAT. As has been said, the standard of play ranges from absolute beginner to some players who are very decent. Then there are bulk of players (like me) who are somewhere in between.
One thing that is certain is that you won"t find friendlier tournaments, or an atmosphere as welcoming and enjoyable as at an APAT event.
Even if you are a dirty manc supporter ;).

Welcome Cantona,
This is simply a fantastic place to learn. I joined last year in mid season 2 and managed to qualify for a national event in Ireland. I was petrified and was lucky enough to go with a few mates who also won a seats.
This was going to be my first ever Live (BIG) tourney and i was kacking it.
I went and i had a ball. The people were FANTASTIC as was the venue/Structure/Level.
I ended up finishing 25th of 180ish and played the best poker i have ever played. I felt like a pro in a Pro enviroment.
I have made many friends at these events and still keep in touch via this forum.
My single messege to anybody just joining is:
You won"t meet a better bunch of like minded Poker People and get the chance to play poker at every level...

I should have maybe joined the forum in May which is generally when you would be able to welcome me as a supporter of the team top of the league ;D
Shame the interenet was not really around for the masses in May 1990 if you know what I mean.
Anyway the poker!! I am definitely looking to register for this tournament in Walsall, any idea how many seats are available?

There should be 200 available with alternates also.
Qualifiers are online with Blue Sq on the 12th, 13th, 14th of January and the remaining seats will then be sold via the homepage of www.apat.com at 9pm on Thursday 15th January.

Thanks for that.
Also how quickly do the seats generaly get snapped up? Is it a case of going on the site as soon as they are released?
I realise the tournament is over 2 days but I would be interested to know the following:
How far does the money ladder down
Prize money for 1st 2nd and 3rd
Starting stack
Blind frequency
TIA
-
The structure for season 3 can be found here http://www.apat.com/structure.php
Starting stack is always 10,000
Payout can vary depending on numbers, but is usually top 10% of field. With Walsall being a 200 runner event then the top 20 will get paid.
1st should get around £3500, 2nd around £2500, 3rd around £1500 - just approximates, so don"t hold me to those values ;D

What a guess !!! http://www.apat.com/prizes.php

Sounds good. will you be playing Walsall yourself?
-
Not Walsall this year, played there last year.
My other half (the better player :D ) and I have earmarked Edinburgh, Dublin, DTD (Omaha and HORSE - me, Main Event - her) and Bolton as definites, so long as we get through the clickfests :o
And later in the year we"ll decide on the European in Luton. We should be at the end of year event in Manchester seeing as how it"s "just over the border" ;D
-
Yes I have clocked the Manchester dates for end of the year and hopefully by then I will have a few of the more capable players from our pub games signed up.
I have had a look at those links you provided (very useful BTW)
