So I made a load of chips and then donked them off like a fool, but I just wanted to say that this tournament (well, day 1 at least) was fantastically organised, beautifully run and was held in an absolutely top class poker room. Congrats and thanks to everyone involved. It was my first APAT event but will definitely not be my last.

Completely agree, (apart from "made a lot of chips" ;D )....well done guys!
-
I completely agree, it had / has ( i made day 2 just about!) a fantastic set up. The card room was great, and the whole day run seemlessly. Thanks to all who have organised.
Cant wait get to back tomo, with about 2 big blinds left going into the next level i think the saying is a chip and a chair....
-
Well played yesterday Ash, nice double up early doors and it"s game on...
Keep the faith ;)
And must agree on the congrats to APAT. Excellent day yesterday, apart from being card dead all the way through the tourney but then running very hot in the sit and gos!! How does that work??
-
This was my first APAT tournament also and I"d like to reiterate the above comments, I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The organisation and venue were first class and everyone I met was extremely friendly and welcoming. I got virtually busted out when my all-in ad kd lost to qh jd after flop had come down :3s: :as: kh and ts hit on the river... sometimes you just KNOW what is coming!
Can"t wait for the next event, I will be telling as many people as I can to sign-up also. Thanks to all involved.

Have to agree, superbly well run and civilised behaviour at the table all adds up to make for a great live experience.
I really enjoyed my first APAT venture, thanks to Des and team for a great day.

Sorry about that Gary. It was me holding the Q J :-[

So after the 100 mile journey to play my short stack of 29k. Me and my 3 friends, had all the conversations of what to do in the car on the way, as to whether sit it out and hope for the premium, or push in an an unopened pot with cards that aren"t necessarily dominated.......
1st hand blinds 2/4 Geordi Bedi - with a monster stack raises to 14k. I look down and see ah qh, decision time. I pusk for an extra 15k. Action folds back round to George who duly calls and turns :as: 5h. My hand holds up, ive got the double up i wish for!
A little squeeze play here and there, when an unopened pot arises, and i maintain a stack of 60k.
Bubble time..... Hand for Hand i see ts th UTG +1 i raise to 18k. Folds round to the BB who instantly go"s all in. After a preiod of deliberating, I fold and show, and he duly shows kc kd. The bubble passes and its all been worth it.
I eventually go out pushing with qs js with about 4 players to act, in an unopened pot for 40k with the blinds about to bite into my equity, called by AK. not hitting i go out finishing in 28th.
It was a great experience, all fellow players were great, the organisation superb and i look forward to the next event. Thanks Ash

I have shamelessly cut, copied, pasted the following from Blonde:
Absolutely fantastic tournament.
Great venue, good food, brilliant staff (I didn"t see one protest/TD call over 2 days) and all run to time with sheer precision.
Obviously the last thankyou should go to Tikay, Des, Rich and the chip counters for their amazing work behind the scenes.
A BIG FINAL THANKYOU SHOULD GO TO ALL THE APAT PLAYERS. THIS IS HOW POKER SHOULD BE PLAYED - IN A WARM, FRIENDLY SPIRIT WITH PLENTY OF BANTER AND RESPECT FOR FELLOW PLAYERS.
(if anyone found me to be strangely silent at the table please do not be offended, as I had the chat box off when the sunglasses went on!!)
I was absolutely gutted not to go deeper (I really believed I could get to that FT!!!!) - and a little saddened to find George Bedi had been knocked out when I got home. George plays the game in a really good spirit and plays with a healthy level of aggression. Pain in the a**! Oh, and if you get KO"d you wann get KO"d by the eventual winner right?????
-
Lee- thanks very much for your kind words. I unfortunately had to nurse a medium stack after this hand.... was a major turning point for me. With 280k short stack moved all in with qs js
I call with ah kc
flop th 5h :2d:
turn :2h:
river qc
for the 4 outer.
Can"t complain too much tho- won my fair share of coin flips- hope to see you at the next one mate!!!! That was a 160k pot- would have put me up to second in chips at the time with 4 short stacks to my left- yum!
-
Would just like to add my congratulations on a well run and organised event. This was my first APAT live event and also wont be my last.

Again well done on cashing Ash and thanks for the lift on both days ;D

I would like to add my thanks to the team, Des/Tighty/Tikay all done a great job. So much go"s in to organising an event like this, then they have the 14 hour days making sure it all runs well. Never mind the stress of it all.
The competition was superb, really enjoyed myself from start to finish. The casino was a touch of class. The way the whole thing was setup from the final table to the dinner, the fine details made it an event to remember not just for the people at the FT but all of the people who railed. The way the FT was organised was fantastic, it must of given the runners who made it that far a really good feeling to be there. The interviews before and after for the finalists where a good touch as well.
Well done to everyone for playing and especially the fishies who got lucky and made it to the final table, and well done to KingPoker (Gareth) for winning, even though he had the luck of the Irish, and the Gods on his side, but you need to get lucky to win.
-
Sounds like I missed a monster weekend & to make it worse my home internet has been down for a week too!!
Congratulations to KingPoker on your win!
-
Congratulations to APAT and all finalists for what sounded like a pretty damn good weekend. Was on holiday when tournament and all other announcements were made (3 weeks of Unread posts took a while to get through I tell thee :) so was never going to be able to make it but kept up with update over weekend and sounds like I missed a cracker. Very much looking forward to Season 2 and ensuring that birthdays/weddings/holidays do not clash APAT events!
-
Must agree with all the above. Whats next Des?
-
Everything was well done by the casino including the dealers. And the extra money from bluesquare to play in the gbpt makes it extra special.
-
This is taken directly from the forum i normally write on at gambling.co.uk
I thought i might write a little report of the weekend!
Ok well i leave for Luton on the Friday to play the £75 FO there. My first impression on the casino was WOW this place is amazing. The card room was huge and the poker tables looked to be really nice. However the only one problem was the fact that there were no cushions to stop the cards from falling off!!
I registered for the £75 tourney but was in no mood to play it. I had a long day at work and rushed to get there! I donked out in the game after Matt by playing like a donk. I had a set on one board which ran into a str8 and i paid the guy off. I did my usual no respect to female players and despite the obvious play of her having aces or kings on a board of K,10,6 i still called her all in with Q,10!!!! I play so bad.
However being knocked out of this game was a good idea i think and made me get an early night which was much needed. I woke up in the morning fresh and wanting to play the donkament ahead of me.
After a spot of brunch and some chat about hands to Woody in the pub it was time to head to the casino to get ready for the days play. I wanted to play well on the 1st day and prove i could make it deep into one of these as my past efforts had been pretty poor of late. Woody and I then saw donkbox, Alex B, Tankman, Mango fish, Damatrix and ThePadster and team gambling.co.uk were ready to go to war!
At 2:30 we were all in our seats and ready to play! I had 2 people who had not played a live donkament like this before and my plan was to target these!!! I must have won the prop bet to see how long it would take to hear Mango Fishs"s pirate laugh. I correctly guessed 15 seconds of him sitting down! He seemed happy as the beer was flowing at 2pm!!!!
My 1st hand i was dealt was pocket 7s which i raised to 150 when blinds were 25/50, everyone folded (how easy was that). I then sat back for a while and watched the other players to see how they played and decided who i should make moves on and who i should wait for cards to play. Near the end of the 1st level i was dealt 6s in MP. I limped to see a cheap flop but a guy in the SB who hand not played a hand raised to 200. I figured the guy for AK or AQ so i was happy to call and see a flop. The flop came 8h,4d,6h. Matey bet 400 which i just flat called with my set. The turn came a 3rd heart!!! He bet 600 this time which i raised to 2000. He then min raised me!! At this stage i still cant put him on the flush but for some strange reason i flat called again. The river was another blank and we both checked. I showed my set and he had kings with no heart!!! This put me upto 15 - 16K and i was riding high.
Then in the 50/100 level i shipped someone to the rail!! It had folded to another mateyboy who raised on the C/O to 450. I looked down in the BB with pocket 8s and made the call.
Flop was J,8,5 rainbow and i checked my options waiting for him to CB which was done with a bet of 800. I re raised to 1800 and he then called. The turn came another 5 so that gave me the boat. I pushed all in to look like a stupid overbet. He had 6K behind him and thought for a long time. He then said i must be on the steal and called with QJ!!!!!!! No J on the river and i was raking the chips in. 23K by the 50/100 level. Sweet as a nut!
From that point it was plain sailing for a while and i just picked spots to raise and re raise people when they appeared weak. I did not bully too much as a guy to my right started picking up alot of hands and winning alot of chips so he had me covered!
The day was getting long and i was building up the chips. I lost a race in one pot when i moved tables and was then on 15K on the 600/1200 level but never mind these things happen. Bearing in mind it was the 1st time i put my chips in pre flop on a race i had not minded. Then came the hand which shipped me a few chips and made a guy very unhappy!!
Ok so i had been having a bit of banter on the table and was getting loud and brash for the hell of it! The guy on the CO raised as he did every CO to 3600 on 600/1200 level and i looked down in the SB with A10. Now i know its not the best of holdings but to a CO raise i am thinking this guy has junk and i am going to make a stand. I push all in for 16K and before the BB can act the CO insta calls!!! I stand up and go whoaaaaaa wait for him. You must have a monster to insta call. The BB folds and CO shows AK!!! ARHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHG. I even start getting ready to go
Flop Q,J,3
Turn 9
River 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As i look at the 8 i say thats what happens when you call out of turn!!!
Oh dear he was not happy!! I had a mouthful of abuse from him and i told him it was only a bit of fun. I said if that offended him so much i am sorry as i was only having a joke.
Woody later on moved onto my table and i wanted to avoid him as he had more chips than me. Also if he took me out i would not hear the last of it in the hotel room! In the 1500/3000 level i had built up a nice stack of 75K by bluffing my way and stealing the blinds as i was pretty card dead (apart from getting aces of course)!
A big hand played here which again i made someone very unhappy. It folds to me in the SB and i look down at A5o and raise to 9000 to take the BB away. He tanks for a min then moves all in and its 36K for me to call. Now he had not played a hand for a while and he had been sitting pretty tight. Now players like that are known for making moves as i had been getting busy stealing pots. I figured i could have been in front here as i picutred he may have had 2 picture cards. A big pair was out of the question but a mid pair could have been a possibility.
Anyway after about 3 - 5 mins in the tank i figure he is stealing and make the call as i still would have nearly 30K left if i was wrong! He shows 3s and we are off to the races. The second card out is an ace and no 3 on the board comes out so he is shipped to the rails shaking his head and refuses to even shake my hand!!
Soon later the tables are broken again and we are near the end of the day. I was sitting on nearly 120K so i thought i might as well not bother playing a hand. I had to play one as i was priced in when i was BB and some guy went all in. I had 7,3 and hit the 3 to take him out!
The day was over and the chips were counted and i was 2nd in chips!!!!
Once the tourney finished for the day the chips were counted up and i was on a major high.
So the weary warriors (woody, donkbox and myself) decide to leave the casino and Mango Fish who by this time is so drunk he is talking about going clubbing to some Irish guy is left playing cash and drinking stupid amounts of beer!
Onwards to the chicken shop. All i can say it Donkbox likes his chicken shops! With what he ate i am not surprised! Meat and chips were well lets just say i dont think it was lamb meat which was advertised which he ate. My guessing was it was the remains of the last bit of road kill from the week before!!
Note
I forgot to mention in my last post on the Friday watching Mango Fish play donkjack. This is great to watch as he has some crazy bet sizes and a blantant disrespect for any amount of money! The crazy betting of £245 a hand spelt this out. Then by the time we went he had to move to the £500 max a hand tables!!! Sick sick man!!
The Sunday started off meeting the guys at the casino Mike, Raiser, Firephil and Dan from the Bristol poker meetup were there and we discussed about last night and how they were going to play. Then it was needed to bid fairwell to the players and say hello to the pub and beer!!!
After some grub and some games of brag which i pwned as i am such a luckbox i finish with about an extra £20 in my pocket and another £250 from roulette which i won from putting £7 on one number and it rolling in. Yes i am a luckbox and i am proud of it. This was my cash game buy in so i was free rolling baby
We went to the casino for the lunch break to see how the guys were doing and to sign up to the cash games were going on. I spoke to Raiser who was bored so i knew it was not going to be long to until he would donk out. Mike seemed a little down as he had not really played a hand and felt he was playing like a donk. But i remember saying along with Phil to him that he does not have to get busy yet and now he bulilt up his image he can really use position and his moves to get some chips!! (which looks like he may have done).
Anyway with 2 pints inside me of some strange lager the cash table started. It was a 50p/£1 cash table with a max buy in of £100. Most players sat down with £100 and we were ready to rock and roll. I ordered a double vodka and red bull and it was time to go!!! The game was not so loose to start with but it was about to get a little surreal after 10 hands.
To my right i had a Norwegian guy who was very funny and very loose. My best play was just to get drunk! After another double vodka and red bull i was ready to gamboooooooool. The table started to straddle and the game was getting interesting. Some blinds were £16 before the cards had been dealt so we knew this was going to be fun!
I remember donking a buy in to Phil after playing 2,4o and asking for the dealer to put a 2 on the flop. He decided to deal the flop of 2,6,2. Seeing that being a monster all the chips went rushing in on the turn i think and i got to see Phils 6"s!!! meh!!!
Now this Norwegian guy (whoses name i would love to remember) was one of the best LAG players around. This guy had no fear and had made around £1500!!! Myself, Phil and all the others managed to donk off our stacks to him and he bought us all some drinks and made us all laugh. To be honest i would play that cash game any day of the week and i was really pleased he made the trip to come and play the APAT. Its members like this which will make the APAT a huge success.
I still (despite being drunk) managed to make around £250 profit from that cash table. This was mainly thanks for the Norwegian guy to keep raising my raises and with my pocket aces i soon doubled up to around £560
At 2am the table broke down when he left to catch his flight and people thought the value had gone from the table! Hello i was still drunk so the table was still +EV!!!
I then thought to myself if i want to do well tomorrow i need to sleep and not stay for drinks with the others. I was a little drunk and went to hotel for some well earned rest. Well what i thought was going to be rest as i was kept up all night with a certain PokerWoody snoring at what would be 2000 decibels. At around 6am i manage to sleep after to sticking my ipod on and sleeping to my music!! Then at 9am i wake up and feel like total poo. This was not a good start to the day i wanted.
Wondering around town at lunchtime looking for some breakfast was the next plan of the day however we got stuck with some crazy Polish guy talking to us about our country and its history! I want to forget this as he scared me!!
After meeting up with Alex B, Tankman, Firephil, Mike and Woody in the pub i decided its time for a gamboooooooool!! Off i go to the nearest fruit machine and proceed to donk money in it until Woody comes along and tells me to stop being a ***** and bet the 50p stakes on the machine!! This was the best idea ever as i managed to stick £15 in this machine and walk away with 27 gold nuggets!! yeeeeeehaaaaa
Right then so tired and in the mood to gamble we head off to the casino for the 2nd day of the donkament. I waste the 27 golden nuggets in the slot machines and sit down and nearly fall asleep. At this stage i am struggling.
Then comes the call "all poker players go to there seats"
So this is it day 2 i am 4th in chips and confident i can cash high up in this, hell i can even win this. I have the best table draw IMO with alot of big stacks on the table so i can make plays on them. I have 5 reads on my table from playing them before so i am over the moon. Mike is even on my right so i know that if he raises i need to stay out as he will be strong
Play as expected was very cagey as we are so close to the bubble. This is perfect as i can take advantage of this. I target the guys with mid stacks so if they play they are basically playing for there tourney life. About 20 hands in i jump from 120,000 to 160,000 from stealing pots. Then i have a big decision to make!!!
I am on the BB with blinds 4000/8000. UTG min raises to 16000 and MP pipes up and says wow your trying to represent aces there!! I dont believe you. This guy was a little strange and made a couple of bad plays the day he was on my table on day 1 and over raised a few hands which meant he was priced in when he was dominated and got lucky! Anyway he tanks for a minute and raises another 30K on top of the 12K. Action folds to me and look down at 2 black queens!!!
Rubbish this is a tough spot here. I ask how much the guy who re raised had and he was sitting on another 32K. I am guessing at this spot this move could cost me alot of my stack as UTG had 100,000 behind him! Now to be honest i was not scared of UTG but the guy in MP raised so much i am guessing he cant fold his hand and therefore must have a monster and i dont fancy calling nearly 90K of my stack when i could be behind so clear to the bubble and i therefore folded. Guys what do you think?? Smart fold or very donkish?
There was another hand after this where i used the bubble to my full advantage. Hell it even got tikay to let out a little smile when he saw the hand being played!
UTG raises 3x BB on the 4000/8000 level and CO thinks for ages and says he has a hand. He folds after going into the tank, Button then says he has a hand but folds after a moment in the tank. I look down in the SB and see 10,7o and i say "oh jeez we have all had hands" I tank it for a moment and say to UTG its either push or fold time for me i think. I then flat call!! hahahahah
Flop comes K,Q,6 all clubs I lead out for 30000 and UTG quickly folds saying he had 2 outs and even one of those may have given me the flush. He said he had 10s and i proudly show the bluff saying i just love bubble play with a big stack!
My table was quickly broken down when the bubble burst and i moved to a new table where i did not have many reads on I sat tight for a while but i could feel tiredness creeping in. I decided to be loud and brash AGAIN to try and wake me up and to get the table to have a laugh so that i had them on my side!!
Later on a shortstack pushes all in UTG and it folds to me on the button and i look down at KQ. I need to think for a while as its costing me about 1/4th of my stack. I reckon i am pretty much up against an ace and think i am a 60/40 dog and make the call. He flips QJ and i have a monster lead! My hand holds and i ship another to the rail!
Then comes the hand of death!
As i had been playing all the time before i raised i looked at my cards, placed my card protector on them, dropped my shades down and announced "raise" This was done on everyhand to try and not give away any tells and this hand was done exactly the same.
Looking down at 8,6h UTG i thought it was time to play a hand as its been about 12 mins since i played the last one mwhahahahahaha.
So at the 4000/8000 level i raise to 23000 and it all insta folds to a LAG player (who finished 2nd) who says well its not much is it. How much more 15k?? Well its just 1K short of a standard raise so god knows what he thought. He called and the flop come J,10,x.
We both check and i expect to take this one on the turn regardless of what comes out. The next card is a 8 which pairs me and he bets out 30K. I insta pick up my stack of green and white chips (which were worth 10K and 5K) and plonk them down on the table. The raise is about another 60 - 70K more! Matey insta calls aghghghghghghghgh. At this stage i know i am behind and i cant really fold any more as i have so much in the pot and i cant really play with just 20k behind me!
So that was my APAT adventure over and i am actualy really gutted to have donked out like that! However i collected my prize money (£300) gave Nick his 5% and left to drive home and think of what could have been. I really think i could have gone all the way and taken it down the way i had played. Oh well such is life and there will be other games!
Hope you all enjoyed reading this!
