Deep into a tournament, the chip leader - for whatever reason - has to leave.  What happens to his chips?

This question has been asked on the TDA discussion blog - http://pokertdablog.com/2008/12/02/leaving-the-game/

It seems WSOP have a rule to cover it...

"There is a rule for this at the WSOP. Rule #52 specifically states that players who are disqualified will have their chips removed from play and players who leave due to health reasons or otherwise will have their chips blinded off."
