Title: Hotels in Cardiff
Post by: SirPercival on February 11, 2009, 18:51:32 PM
Can anyone recommend a decent, not too expensive hotel, for the Cardiff weekend in April?

won"t be going to Cardiff this time but agree the etap is a good choice for the amount of time actually spent in the room and it is near the casino.

not the biggest car park but if full - which it will be - you should find be able to find space on the road at the front.

sorry - missed the word "decent" in the original post   ;)

Great location, loads of parking, but not the cheapest.  Should be okay for anyone that has increased their bankroll recently from coming, I don"t know, at least 3rd in an APAT National Event.   ;D

...or second in an online league, or maybe someone who"s won 3 mini league tourneys in a row...... Can you think of anyone that maybe fits that description.....?

This wasn"t meant to be a brag post guys. Anyway, why would I spend too much on a hotel in Cardiff potential at the expense of Vegas trip number 6 ?

if you stay at the etap just make sure you take a confirmation number. i was told on the phone that my room was sorted last year, only to turn up after the days play to be told there was no room

unimpressed as you can quite gather! ::)

Because I drove home from Walsall on the Saturday night, I don"t want to change the karma so will be driving home from Cardiff on the Saturday night...... so not booking a hotel. Only problem is that it"s 90 miles instead of 25...  still, chances of 2 day twos in a row? narrow to slim - so who needs a hotel!!

I used to often stay at the Travel Inn (not the one in the town centre - the other one) cos its the only Travel Inn in the country that has leisure facilities. It"s attached to a David Lloyd Centre and you go in there for meals (passage is indoors), so you get to use the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, etc for free. Probably not really supposed to, but no-one ever stopped us. Food there is unfit for human consumption, though.

There"s a Holiday Inn (might be a HI express) located on the same road as the Etap and it"s certainly within walking and staggering distance from the Cardiff Grosvenor.

Just booked a nice apartment about 10 minutes walk from the casino.  £60 a night for a twin room, and they look very pleasant.  Not going to be there much, so as long as the beds are comfy and the shower works (oh and the loo thinking about it), it"ll be fine.
