$10 tourney on gala with $15k guaranteed ($19k was overall prize fund from 1900+ runners)
sitting on 4k in chips and approx 200 place with 650 runners left and on BB at 100/200 level
UTG makes it 400 , SB folds and even though this looks like a cheap steal and i should fold as im holding the powerhouse 53o i call with 3/1 pot odds
flop K57 rainbow
i think and lead out for 400 as a semi bluff and if im raised i fold but he flat calls
turn card 3
i bet out for 1k and he flat calls
im think what he might have as there is no flush possible but a couple of straight possibilties if he was stealing with A4,A6, plus he could have AK or maybe K7/K5
im discounting 55 as i have the case 5 but you never know
im still not too commited to the hand but 2 pair is looking good
river 3
full house 3"s&5"s
i bet out 1k and he goes all in for his 5k left - i still have around 2k left but cant fold
he turns over pocket kings
:o ???
-
also i cant fault the villians play - i"d have probably done the same
-
gotta ignore pot odds sometimes - just think what an UTG player might be min-raising with, and then consider whether you really want to play 53o out of position against him
-
watching as he played he was min raising everytime on the button - unopened, multiple limpers and even when someone opened 3/4 X BB so i couldnt really put him on any move except stealing
-
But you said in this hand he was UTG and not on the button? Not sure hed be stealing from UTG but 5 3 off is def still too weak to call with, just isnt much insentive to play it
-
did i say UTG??? (yep i did - sorry)
he was on the button
-
in that case, and it you peg him as stealing.... shove and hope he folds, but know that if he calls you will have live cards. Defending your BB against theft is one thing, but calling here is so passive, and somewhat weak.
-
... did he usually min raise when stealing? (or 3*BB)
He gave you the pot odds to play and killed you.
After the flop you have bottom pair and a terrible kicker ...
Being out of position here is the killer.
No harm in folding trash ... if you think he is stealing re-raise and you will find out!
UL on turn and river cards.

ugh at leading that flop.

ugh at leading that flop.
Why? If you"re just gonna check/fold then what"s the point of calling pre. You"ve called to get a piece of the flop and you have done. I lead out on the flop and if I"m called, I"m shutting down. As played post flop - nothing but a cooler.
Personally I fold pre, I don"t wanna get involved with 53os and we don"t need to be 3-betting ridic light this early in tournament, wait for him to steal again when you have a better holding.
