Title: cutting cards
Post by: antthecat on March 10, 2009, 13:47:25 PM
i have been told that im wrong but im sure i am right, what happened was i was playing a pub regional tourney and busted early, my friend was still in so i offered to deal for that table(it was ok"d by the tourney director) and to show nothing was going on i offered the player on the button to cut their fate so to speak, a few hands in and this one bloke who was annoying everyone was on the button, i shuffled and passed the deck to him, he said no cut. i said to him a minimum of two cards must be cut before dealing commences. he argued the point so i offered the cut off the cut, he cut and cards were dealt. he kept whinging that he wanted no cut and i cursed his fate and that casino"s dont cut the deck before a deal.

am i right or wrong, please help as it is bugging me????

Don"t know the rules at the tourney but as far as I am aware it is choice of the player to the right of the dealer to see if they wanted to cut , so if he didn"t want too/ don"t cut, more that likely i am wrong ( been plenty of times before lol ) but that is how i see it

I have seen the deck just tapped on the top instead of a cut. Don"t know the full ruling, but I have seen that in Casinos and in pub games.

Roberts Rules of Poker

The Shuffle and Cut!

1 The Pack must be shuffled and cut before the cards are dealt. The recommended method to protect the integrity of the game is to have three people involved instead of only two. the dealer on the previous hand takes in the discards and squares the deck prior to the shuffle. the player on the dealers left shuffles the cards and slides them to the dealer, who gets them cut by the player on his right.

2. The deck must be riffled a minimum of four times. the cut must leave a minimum of four cards in each portion.

3. the bottom card should be protected so no body can see the bottom of the card.

4. Any complaint made about the shuffle, cut or other preparation connected to the deal must be made before the player has looked at his hand or betting action has started.

If you wanted to display your integrity and not do the final cut (were they that suspicious ?) you should do a cut (so no bottom card can be discerned) and offer the player to cut again - if he chooses not to - no problem, cos you have done a prior cut.

next option - smack him next time  ::) ::) ::)

A cut should always occur, but I"m assuming that after you finished shuffling you did a cut yourself..... therefore the player you offer the deck to is entitled to leave the deck as is with no further cut.

i usually do cut but i made sure i did not and gave the players their choice of a normal, deep or shallow cut.
