Title: too agressive?
Post by: treydj on June 12, 2009, 02:52:23 AM
hi all,

last 100 players - 36 get paid - i am in the top 30 ish.
Villain has lucked a few pots i.e JJ V KK and AQ V AK and has a massive stack - raising ever hand.
I have managed to hold my own against him and have a good read as to where i am at with him.

Initially my call oop with such a low starting hand is pretty loose even by my standards - but i thought if the flop comes low or connected i would bluff at it or at least call a c bet and see what he does on the turn

whats your play

Shove with one hand in the air

As he"s been raising every hand, you want to milk him into doubling you up. With an AA / KK / AK type hand this could be a good spot to get him to do that on the flop. On such a raggedy a$$ board, his range is a LOT wider than this - he"d prob be willing to shove / call shoves with AK, 66-AA assuming he"s well ahead of anything you"d call a PFR with. If he has one of the 4 hands that have you beat (A3, 22, 44 or 55 - 36 v unlikely), so be it.

I would prob just call him here and hope he leads out for a decent amount of the turn - I"m betting out / raising regardless.

Not aggressive enough imo.

If you want to play back at him here I reraise to give you more ways to win the pot and disguise your hand.

From here I"m playing for stacks and shipping

Just call him at 675 ... or fold at 5000 ... choose a better spot ... he is going to do the same when you actually have a hand.

thanks again for the input guys - as you will see from the reveal i kinda get coolered.
one question - how do you think the big stack played this hand? - i think he played it pretty poorly imo.

Louis - surely top two pair is a pretty decent hand in this spot? Why would you fold and wait til you "actually have a hand"..... top two against a LAG is massive in my book.

cant be results oriented - you made the perfect play, and had him dominated when he put his chips in. he caught runner runner - suck it up and move on.

lol was gonna say he has 6s-Js

stop being results orientated - just a bad beat.

there is no way that you aren"t getting it in here after calling with 54o

You were coolered, i woulda played it slightly different, but would still have ended up with it all in on the turn. And he way over played his hand, you can see his thinking, but then you could have been calling with any two (which you pretty much were) from the BB, so he shoulda smelt a rat.

If his range is as wide as OP suggests then it"s a mistake waiting til the turn to get it in.  U dnt want to give him free cards.  As played, more a bad beat than a cooler, but thts poker.

I think the main reason waiting till the turn is worse is that if he has a hand like he has (middle pair) then the turn brings an ace king or queen you might lose your customer

I dont mind the call in the blinds but would probably fold pre. I"d definitely call this in position because 45o is a potential stacker.

As played, you"ve got a well disguised 2 pair and most overpairs will stack off here. A3 and sets are in his range here but these have to be minor considerations in comparison to the overpairs that will stack off here.

I cant believe the oppo got it in with 8s though. even I"d have folded that!!
