I was just wondering if there was some confirmation from Simon/DTD that there will be fully trained and experienced dealers for the HORSE event at the WCOAP? I was unfortunate enough to experience some poor dealing during my last visit (which was surprising considering the usual high standards) and thought it would be a real shame to see the same sort of thing ruin what is one of the only live HORSE tourneys in the UK this year.
-
I would assume Simon and Matilde will fully train the dealers for the HORSE event, most of the dealers know how to spread the different games anyway.
The only time I"ve experienced adealing error was from a new trainee.
-
Yes, I have to emphasize again that on my many many previous visits to DTD the dealing has been of the highest quality, it was only this last visit where I saw a bunch of errors, some fairly elementary and important to the players on the receiving end.
I don"t know if there were a few newer dealers there this weekend compared to last time I was there, I saw a fair few faces I didn"t recognise, so perhaps this explains it.
-
Aye, the regular dealers tend not to make mistakes.
-
DTD run dealer"s choice cash games which are far more varied than the variants within HORSE. I"m sure it won"t be a problem at all.

A fair point well made.
-
tell me more about the cash games! what limits? is there a set list of games?
-
dunno about the games but they run £2/£2 , £2/£5 and dunno bout higher prob if enough demand
-
I"ve watched £10/£10 games at DTD with some variants being played that I"ve never seen before, and just couldn"t get my head around in the short time I watched. They were also playing the usual stuff - with the favourite game apparently being 6 card Omaha Hi/Lo. The pots were regularly over £1k!
The dealer was on top of it all, and bossed the table really well, with many multiple all ins and side pots all over the place.

ye there mixed games dealers are top notch
-
Am i right in thinking that the lowest stakes are going to be 50p-£1. Also do they do 6-max NLH or is it all 9 handed?
thats all im rolled up for unfortunatly.
-
ye mate £0.50/£1 is the smallest stake they play and im sure its all 9 handed.
-
I believe .50/£1 games tend not to run on days when there is a special tournament running as well as the regular DtD scheduled events. Cash tables have to wait until dealers are freed up from the tournaments, and if they have limited numbers available and people wanting to play higher then clearly the higher-stakes tables will take priority.
Having said that, the mix of players there for the APAT event will be slightly different to the mix for the monthly £300 Deepstack, so perhaps that might work in favour of there being .50/1 games going.

Fair enough, I must admit I"ve not dipped my toes into the mixed games at DTD, due to bankroll and also a belief (which is seems was ill-founded) that they mostly just play HE and 4, 5 or 6 card PLO...
Anyone have a good idea of the games that are spread in the DC games at DTD? I"ve been gagging for a live Baduci game since I was last in Vegas.

if you fancy badugi and you live near norwich, the dc is usually 80% badugi and 20% omaha, awful quality of players so can be worth the trip

I don"t live close, but might think about, although I wasn"t talking about badugi, I was referring to the far superior (IMO) game of baduci, which is 2-7 triple draw where the best qualifying badugi wins half the pot, so you can never actually have the stone cold nuts for both pots, which makes it interesting.

Games played are:
PLO 4/5/6 card - Occasional
PLO8 4/5/6 card - Popular
Irish 3/4/5 card - Rarely picked
Stud - Nobody ever picks stud
Stud8 - Nobody picks this either
Superstud - Quite popular
Padooki - Fairly popular
HE isn"t an option so your belief is definitely out with that one :)
Obviously it depends on who"s there but you get some night"s where 4 of the 8 players pick padooki. Other nights it"s mostly PLO8. Generally speaking it"s usually it"s a mix of PLO8, superstud and padooki.
It"s a very fun game. Plenty of 1k+ pots and usually a lot of cash on the table. Plenty of gamblers there too so can be lots of value if a bit swingy at times.

sorry, my misread, they do occassionaly play triple draw 2-7

No worries, everyone usually makes that mistake as no-one knows what baduci is, but it"s such an awesome game, I wish there was somewhere I could play it!

There will be .50/1 cash games during the APAT weekend. During the £300 weekend they don"t have them on the Saturday night (although if there is enough demand and the space later on they have been known to have a few tables running).
Other than the .50/1 game, there are HE tables at 1/2, 2/5, and 5/10 if the demand is there. PLO is run at 2/2 and 5/5 I believe, and then there"s the DC game at 5/5. This is usually running most nights. I have seen 6-max tables at DTD, but only at the higher stakes, never at the lower limits.
At DTD the .50/1 game has a max buy-in of £100, and a minimum of £40. The 1/2 game has no maximum, and a minimum of £50. Also, a live straddle is not allowed in the .50/1 game, but is in the 1/2 and above.
As for poor dealers, they tend to have a few when they are close to capacity as they have to bring in dealers from elsewhere. For the HORSE event, i"d imagine that the more experienced dealers will be used, or maybe ones who express an interest in learning new games. They"ll get the appropriate training and I"m sure will be more qualified than the bunch of amateurs they"l be dealing to :D.

I have played at DTD a number of times. Dealer-wise it is mostly fine, although I have had a couple of occasions where I have had a problem with them - but it is usually lack of concentration rather than anything else. I played when the recent Amir Khan boxing match was playing on the LCDs, and the game on my table became chaotic when the dealer kept watching the TV, forgetting where the dealer button should be, forgetting to collect antes, allowing actions out of turn etc...
Its actually amazing how quickly the games turn to crap when the dealers mind is elsewhere. From a players perspective, it is tough too as you need focus. Actually, my biggest complaint with DTD is that they shouldn"t have big sporting events on the tournament-area LCDs - especially ones which sit right next to the gaming tables. If people want to watch TV they should go in the lounge area IMO
Obv I haven"t seen them deal a non HE event, so seeing how they cope with HORSE should be fun. I am sure they will be well trained, and I suspect they will need to be given the lack of live stud/razz/Omaha hi-lo experience I guess most of the field will have.

The point about live experience is well-made. I played a HORSE event at The International a while ago, where most of the players, like me, had only played HORSE online. The biggest issue that kept coming up was how much you were allowed to bet on the various streets, particularly in the stud games, which you don"t have to think about on-line, as the limits are defined for you. The whole thing was great fun though, especially the bit at the end of each hand where we all tried to figure out who had won.

...and when the big sporting events are on, the tables clear?

Only took me about 10 hours to get the hang of that when I played my first live razz game ;D

Only Portsmouth!!!!!!!!!!! Only Portsmouth?!?!?!?!?!? FFS. A cut above Birmingham or WBA or Wolves or whichever of the other dead-end lower-Division Black Country teams you support.
Maybe this will refresh your memory...........

No, but you could watch it from the tables.

If the place is open and there"s a few people wanting to play they will definitely be running.
Also if there"s demand they"ll run whatever game you want (within reason). Just ask at the desk and they"ll start a list.

There is usually a £1 £2 DC game as well.
