Title: BCPC HEADS-UP CHAMPIONSHIP
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on August 24, 2009, 01:15:15 AM
Congratulations go to TONY TRIPPIER, who followed up his Season One Championship Title by adding our first-ever Heads-Up Championship Title last Friday night.
We had 18 entrants and they all played best of 3 games with 3000 chips and a 10-minute clock.....a structure that proved to gbe a resounding success.
The Preliminary Round saw Chris Baker beat newcomer Matt Truslove 2-0 but then give up his seat so as to give Matt the chance to experience the club atmosphere....a fine gesture by one of the nice guys !
Into Round one and an amazing start as both Tony Trippier and Will Young were all-in 1st hand as both turned a straight, but Will"s was bigger.
Tony roared back though to win 2-1 before seeing off Steve Redfern in the Quarter-Final 2-1. Up next was Tod Wood who went down 2-0 to put Tony into the Final.
In the other half of the draw, the McKinlay family looked set for a Semi-Final clash. Maxine beat Joey Williams 2-1 in a marathon match while Matt came back from one down to oust Season 2 League Leader Malcolm Howell 2-1 to put them both into the Quarter-Finals.
But Steve Freer ended Maxine"s hopes while Matt was ousted by Brian Yates after winning the opening rubber.
That left Steve Freer and Brian Yates in the Semi but Brian dominated to clinch it by 2-0, meaning that Season One"s 1-2 in the League standings would contest the Final.
And what a Final it was, lasting a mammoth 2 hours, ending at 2.24am !!

 Brian dominated game one until Tony was all-in with  4c   5h  to Brian"s   ad1   8s  on a

:2s:   4d   8d    7s  flop and rivered the   5c   to go ahead and went on to take a 1-0 lead.

In game 2 it was Brian"s turn to get lucky as Tony slow-played    ac   ah  to Brian"s   js   9h  and it all went in on the

jd   :3d:   5d  flop, only for the board to play out with the   6d   turn and    ad    river to split the pot !!

2 hands later, Brian got it in on the turn with Aces to kill Tony and soon after it was 1-1

In the Final match it was nip and tuck all the way until level 5 (300 / 600) saw  both players with less than 5 Big Blinds on every hand and with the 400 / 800 level about to kick-in, Tony shoved with   7s   jh  and Brian decided to call from the BB with   :3d:   td  and Tony flopped a Jack and turned 2-pair to become the Champion.

He wins a £336 seat in a forthcoming DTD Deepstack event, representing all 18 players who played this event, plus a trophy while Brian had to settle for £24...a handsome profit on a £20 entry !!  (Or as Jim Bowen used to call it....BFH.....Your "Bus Fare Home !!")

you also forgot to mention that Tony was able to play every single flippin hand he was dealt with impunity and in the sure fire knowledge that he would flop at least two pair.

Standard for Mr Trippier!
