Title: APAT European Team Championship 2009 - Live Update
Post by: TightEnd on November 18, 2009, 09:42:00 AM
The four day APAT European Championships festival is nearly upon us, from one of Europe"s most glamourous and inviting locations.
Unable to resist the charms of location, Des, Leigh and Ian Burnett telling random strangers "I Got an APAT Medal don"tcha know?" players from twelve countries are about to embark on a two day quest to become APAT European Team Champions before the Individual Event begins on Saturday.
I will once again be sitting on my backside while Leigh does all the hard work. I tell him this means I can be creative and concentrate on entertaining you. He actually pretended to believe that once, bless him. Mug.
So, there follows details of the team event and then you can chip in with shouts of support, your picks of the winning team and other random miscellany.

You know me too well
Go Cymru. Do it for Max Boyce, for Gareth Edwards, for Ryan Giggs, for Charlotte Church, Rob Brydon and Ness from Gavin and Stacey. Make sure you do it for everyone from Rhyl to Llandovery, from Penarth to Aberavon. Most of all, do it for Katharine.
I have sent a link to this thread to Katherine on Twitter. Hello Kath, hope you enjoy the updates. You look mighty fine. Sing ok too.

I"m assuming the National Anthem of the winning team is going to be sung at the medal ceremony - that"s Wales sorted, who"s going to do it if any of the other countries win?
Cheryl Cole for England Vanessa Paradis for France Susan Boyle for Scotland (obv)
are my thoughts.

Intriguing end to match 9 with England"s Brian Yates heads up with Germany"s Silke Burghardt. Silke has a good lead in chips at this point and is playing very aggressively. Yates will do well to take maximum points to go with his earlier Sit & Go victory.

We should have gone to Luton :"(
Basically, a whole load of European teams get together to have a jolly good time, play the odd bit of poker, partake in some good natured banter (usually aimed at Daniel/England), and Des comes up with a points system that ends in an Ireland win ;D
Have I missed anything ?

As players go out, we are allocating minimum points available to the remaining. I have already posted the 6th place finishes for the Austrian team, hence less than 20.

Just back from Luton. and I have to say another fantastic APAT event. I arrived Friday for the team event, and what a brilliant atmosphere. Trying to keep on top of the points situation was a nightmare! England Poland and France took it to the wire, and the play off to find a winner was pure drama. Fortunately for me England fell out of contention and I could give my full support to the Poles, who did a fantastic job, well done guys. From what I saw their secret was, they really played as team, supported each other all the way through, and more importantly concentrated on consistently picking up points, which they did to great effect. Go Polska!!

As for Mikeyboy supporting Poland.....hang your head fella. I had friends playing for other teams and even if I couldn"t stand Steve, Brian, John or Neil (or Dan) I"d still be supporting England.
Crumbs...I still support England at football and we have Ashley Cole playing for us!!

My two cents also. I"d like to say a big thank you to all the organisers (everything was simply perfect!) and to all the players for the great fun we have had in Luton. The atmosphere was great... something you just can"t find during a typical poker tournament. And, thanks God, the Polish team did its job so France didn"t win... :D
Hope to see all of you next year, guys!

Easily my best APAT experience to date - a privilege and an honour to represent my country in such a highly competitive yet friendly event, and was so good to make many new friends from various countries.
To Brian Yates - great scoring matey... just a little gutted that I dropped points in that last session!! Just think - if you didn"t get beat by a girl (twice)...... ;)
To the German team - an inspired substitution that was probably the best play of the whole event!
To the Poles - hearty congratz on a well deserved win.
To the French - unlucky. So close, yet so far, but very well played!!
To the Portugese guy I played cash with on Saturday night - wow, what a game that was!! :)
To Dan - thanks for the pick - proud as.... well, proud as a very proud person.
To Tighty - thanks for looking after the missus in my absence, and for making me really late for bed tonight as I have to read these 30+ page threads!!

Wow, It took sometime to read over 30 pages. But for me it was like a bible. Superb work on the update side. Biggest thanks go to Marcin for trying very hard to persuade me to play. Dzieki. I couldn"t imagine better way to be introduced to APAT. Few of my friends from Punters Lounge already play with you guys and now I regret I haven"t started earlier. Going to the event, not meeting two of my team mates before and to gel so well, its hell of a lot of achievement. The whole tournament run in such a great and friendly atmosphere, that it was overwhelming. When I left, I gained so many friends, yet remember just few names ::). Hopefully with time... Huge thanks to APAT crew for organising, such a big event and for running it so smoothly.
Marcin, Michal i Ian dzieki jeszcze raz chlopaki 8).
BTW, can admin change my name to just hen. It will be easier for all to know who I"m. Thanks.

Congratulations to Poland on their Championship win, to France and England for Silver and Bronze and to all other teams for conducting themselves fantastically well throughout the Championship. It"s three and a half years since APAT launched and this was without doubt the most dramatic and exciting event I"ve had the pleasure to organise. The management and staff of G Luton were also magnificent and a credit to their group. I"m not sure how we can improve upon this in season four, but you have our assurances that we"ll try :D
Congratulations also to Stuart Ward on taking down the individual Championship, to Brian Yates for winning the Omaha event and to George Dickson for winning the £100 freezeout. We came, we saw, we conquered and we did it with some style.
Regards,
The APAT Team.
