Title: UK Team Championship - Captain's Thread
Post by: APAT on November 28, 2009, 06:40:46 AM
This is the Captain"s thread for the United Kingdom Team Poker Championship. All essential information relating to the event will be made available through this thread. If you have any questions on behalf of your team, please post them here.
Here is the preview video featuring images from last year"s Championship. Despite having to push the event back by four weeks to January, this is still entitled "2009" as we would be unable to hold two in 2010.
Captains are free to put the preview video on their own forums to build excitement towards the event, which we expect to have one of the biggest rails in British Poker history.
The YouTube code is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUC-1_9a3io

The APAT UK Team Championship will be played at the G Casino in Manchester on January 23rd / 24th, 2010, with play starting at 2.30pm on both days.
The format will see 20 poker communites from all over the United Kingdom compete for the prestigious title. Included in the field will be Bristol & South West Meetup, the reigning APAT United Kingdom Team Champions and Mary Martin, last year"s individual Championship winner.
The format for the event will be a 10,000 chip, 160 runner, multi table freezeout, with a 45 minute clock. As with all APAT events, the UK Team Championship will be registration free for members and have a £50 buy in per player. Each team will feature 8 players, kited out in their team colours. Points will be awarded to the top forty finishers to determine the Team Championship.
The prize money will be split 50% / 50% between the Team and Individual Championship. In addition, the owner of the winning Team will receive an added prize of £1,000 and the Championship Cup, while the winner of the Individual Championship will receive an entry to a GUKPT main event and the Championship Gold Medal. These added value prizes are courtesy of tour sponsor Blue Square Poker.
A total of 33 poker communities applied to take part in the event, cementing it"s position as the most popular community based tournament in amateur poker. In addition to the 20 teams participating, a large number of spectators are expected to attend and an electric atmosphere seems assured, certainly if last year"s event is anything to go by.
The 20 teams who will compete for the APAT United Kingdom Team Championship are as follows:-
A World Of Poker Ace Of Clubs Amateur Poker Association & Tour Black Country Poker Club Blonde Poker Bristol & South West Meetup - Defending Champions Chezger Eat My Stack FISO Furness Poker London Poker Meetup Newcastle Poker Forum NI Poker Poker Player Punters Lounge Raise The River Sky Poker The Hendon Mob UK Poker Info Voyage In Poker
Each team should now appoint a Captain and start to confirm their 8 player team selection. Further details of this event and a free membership can be found by visiting www.apat.com
Teams can utilise the following optional banner images to promote their participation if required:

Go on tell us, signed up the first year and never thought about it since. How do we get them to do this ? Just sign up on the forum ?
There is no deadline as such, all teams are now considered to have entered. You may want to set a deadline with your own players to ensure you have ample time to replace any players who cannot make it to Manchester.
Signing up is as simple as registering with the forum via the links in the top bar.

Will you need the money from teams in advance or do we bring it on the day?
Cheers! :)
On the day IIRC
This would be our preference but I would encourage Captains to get a committment or deposit from your teams to ensure we don"t lose anyone late in the day without good reason.

what exactly does this mean?

what exactly does this mean?
It means there is an extra £1k for the owner of the winning forum. If I remember correctly, last year a number of teams agreed prior to the tournament with their webmaster/owner, that all of the money would be split equally amongst the team. Whatever you agree, it will need to be paid into a Blue Square account following the event.

I hope to make it thru.
Edit: I hope it has a bed. 3 of us sharing a twin room. First to bust from the tournament has to spend 2 days sleeping on a floor. It is an extreme last longer.

Anyway, I believe that the Park Inn has a deal with the NCP opposite.
Sure does. £5 per day unless there is an event on, and then it"s £10 per day. Apparantely we are the weekend after Strictly Come Dancing live and the weekend before some wrestling event.
Sounds about right to me. ;)

Here"s the Fiso team, all of which played last year (some better than others ;D:)
1. Matthew Doheny (Cptn) 2. David Nuttie 3. Kev Wright replaces Keith Shaw 4. Kieran Matthews 5.Tom Broadbent 6. Phil Colls 7. Daniel Thursfield 8. Mike_ Hodgkiess
Kev Wright who also played in the Team event last year for us comes in for Keith Shaw
Another late team change. This position seems cursed, but Kev Wright has had to drop out due to a car accident today. Nothing too serious though thankfully. Replaced by:
Ben Russell.
So Team Fiso:
1. Matthew Doheny (Cptn) 2. David Nuttie 3. Ben Russell 4. Kieran Matthews 5. Tom Broadbent 6. Phil Colls 7. Daniel Thursfield 8. Mike_ Hodgkiess
