These look great - see you guys on Sat :)
-
Gutted, was hoping the PLO would be on the Sunday :(
Ah well, guess i"ll just need to play the 6 max instead...
A deepstacked online PLO game would"ve been amazing though, more for season 4 please!
-
Will be playing the PLO on Saturday, now that will be funny! :D Form an orderly queue to take my chips :)
-
playing the DTD deepstack this weekend. if i bust early will try and play as many events as i can
-
Do i read that correctly that there is a PL Stud event?
Bit strange as most people would have only ever have played Limit stud!
Maybe its a typo!

Wed 9 Dec - $5 rebuy satellite into main event
2,500 stack, 10 min blinds
My favourite APAT game, form a queue for my table please ::) ::) ::)

No typo, it"s played a lot in the US and should open up the event a bit. ;)

Good thinking Des - hopefully the Americans will be out in full force!! ::)
-
pot limit stud is far more exciting than conventional limit stud - all those draws suddenly look less tempting. Introduces a whole new angle to what can sometimes be quite a boring mathematical game.
-
Des, does the winner of the online rankings get a GUKPT seat?

Nice to see that those guys representing APAT in the Champion Of Champions event at Luton on Saturday / Sunday......some of whom have (had ??) a shot at winning the Online Title.....have been considered here. Why exactly couldn"t these tourneys be moved ??

Is it just me or has the APAT tab on the Blue Square lobby disappeared for everyone else?

Looks like i"ll actually be able to play the PLO tomorrow night ;D
Don"t suppose anybody would happen to have $22 they could transfer me on Blue Sq in exchange for money on Full Tilt? I just noticed that the cashier is only letting me enter how much money I want to load on in pounds without providing a conversion and I don"t know the exact exchange rate and don"t really want any more money on BSQ than needs to be. Let me know if you can help, cheers :)

You want to avoid big cards, especially double suited running combinations of them, everybody will be playing those.
Best saving yourself for when you get dealt 4 deuces, threes or fours in the pocket and play them to the death.
That"s Omaha 101, glad to be of service ;)

Crazy game this, lost with FH, and trip Aces! First ever tourney, playing under the influence of Night Nurse! Can"t see me lasting much longer.
-
out -- nuff said
-
up to 2nd 17k, then lose a massive pot, rvr Q gives me K"s full v Quad Q,s :-(
Now Duke bullies me, until i get it all in with trips v chipaccrual, Duke folds, Leigh has to call, having bet massive his 2nd best flush draw.
4 sp rvr and i"m out.
Leigh now puts Ger out and is chip leader. GL that man, you deserve something Leigh for all your work alone, never mind the poker Prowess.
Great tourney guys.
-
Out, TBH in my physical condition I couldn"t last any longer, and was getting a bit bored. Crazy game though, lost with the nut flush, and trip kings..... evidently happens all the time in PLO! GL to all left in. ;)
-
TID Abaddon......u the man!!! lol

Out in 12th,pleased with that in first ever omahahaha tourney.
Only thing i know about omaha,is AAKK is an half decent starting
hand........exactly what i end up shoving into,lol.

Good tournament all in all, glad I stayed in tonight :D
Very well played Chris. I thought you played very well tonight and thoroughly deserved to take it down. It always gets "swingy" as James put it on the final table and the heads up was no different. Could have gone either way at one stage.
Never shouted so much at the screen for cards to hit. Not sure what the neighbours will think. ;D
WP Chris and Leigh I enjoyed my short stint with you..
Ian
vwp Ian, nice work on the Bronze medal. :)
-
Congratulations on your win Chris, and very well done to Leigh and Ian on your medal wins and to the other final tablists.
-
VWP to you too Ian, and everybody in fact. Considering a lot of people hadn"t played PLO before it wasn"t as crazy as I thought it"d be. Of course when it gets down to a few it"s how the cards fall and thankfully they fell the right way. I was shouting at my screen towards the end too leigh :D
-
Congrats Chris, Leigh and Ian on your medals. Glad to see you got a medal Ian you deserved it vwd.
-
Big congrats Chris, Leigh and Ian!
-
Congrats guys..... vwp :)

well done guys, Great result chris!!

Congrats Chris, Leigh and Ian on your medals. Glad to see you got a medal Ian you deserved it vwd.
Thanks very much Mary, it seems that you and I always tangle in these online tourneys and turn or river a magical card as it was with my turned King yesterday my luck there obviously was crucial and tbh my luck throughout helped quads and a straight flush to boot.
Thank you for your kind words they will be remembered
Ian
Now tonight.............. lets not tangle ;D
-
Congartulations Chris, Leigh and Ian!!
-
n1 Chris - congratz!
Leigh - when are you going to get your act together and turn a deep run into an APAT win??! :D
-
well played medalists,,,most enjoyable,,,only my 2nd omaha comp,,the other being last years apat omaha,,,lol,,,,,im sure i was sticking when i should av been twisting lol,,,gl tonight all !!!!
-
-
Cheers everyone! Good luck at the tables tonight ;)
-
Well done Crizzy, Leigh and Ian. Also to all the points scorers. Good Comp, and GL tonight guys n gals. :)
-
Ah well out of the 6-Max already, I think i"m better with 4 cards :D
My own fault. Failed to notice double paired board due to too many tables open at once and lost half my stack straight away with K high flush thinking I was up against 3 jacks, unfortunately it was a boat. Then my AK was no match for A5 to lose the rest of my stack. Good luck to Moravska who was the lucky recipient of all my chips ;)
-
LOL, going to have to change my name from swinebag to "Euston" the way I"m playing tonight.
I might make the first break. cant hit a flop which is surprising considering the number that I"ve seen
-
Think we have a couple of manics at or table rob lol
-
coupple of serial bet pot buttoners on my table.............hate playing against those guys. Good job its a deepstack.

Out in 29th in what was a very tense game for me. As I was dealt so few playable hands, I"m pretty sure I"ve NEVER bluffed as much as I had to tonight. I was holding my breath / hands over the eyes more times than I care to remember (tf it wasn"t live!).
GL to All remaining. Quite a few new names on there tonight, and it"s great to see Swinebag and Yappari up there! Get in won guys!

Well done to all and especially the medallists. Special mention to willenhall who has now picked up points in both WCOAP Online events so far.
-
Well played to everyone! Especially Gordon (Timmay86) who ran over his tables from around 30 players left & onwards, a well deserved win. Not just saying that coz he"s my mate either :D That"s two out of two for our home game. We"ll give the stud a miss though :P Well played to everyone though, I enjoyed watching all the tables from the last 4 onwards. Congrats to everyone who cashed!

I"m giving up poker.

WP medalists, missed this playing a local live tourney, but following the threads, I can assure you bad beats happen in live poker as well !! 88% fave, still walking! ;)

WD gordon
I played on his table at DTD. All I can say is....he has a full ring game that is well suited to 6 max ;D
A very worthy winner, WD again
PS
Is the Online table being updated?

It will be ahead of the next event.

Well done Gordon looked like you where running over your table.
Out in 10th for me, Trying to steal blinds into KK the usual lol.

Yeah, sorry about that Steve. Guess I was gambling then cos I was steaming after just losing a huge pot to 88 with JJ despite a 3rd J in the window. Not a recommended trait for a poker player.
-
Congratulations to everyone who cashed and medaled last night!
-
Can anyone point me in the direction of a basic Pot-Limit Stud how to guide or something along those lines? Wouldn"t mind giving it a bash and donating to the prizepool but I don"t have the foggiest of ideas about the game...

Cheers guys and congrats to Chris sweet world championship double.

For basic simple and sound guidance see if you can get a book by Herbert O Yardley called The Education of a poker player in this book you will find a few pages on 5 and 7 card stud. That should be all you need!
You can"t borrow mine. ;)

Its a great game,,,its basically texas hold em,,but instead of community cards everybody has there own.,hand values are the same,,,you just have to study opponents showing cards and work out what possible hands you maybe up against,,,think bl square have play money stud,,,worth an hour on there,,u will pick it up quite quickly im sure !! its easier than omaha anyway lol
-
I am new to stud as well and i found a mtt on blue sq at 1935 $5 normally about 60 runners. Worth giving it a try just get a feel for it. It is limit as oppose to pl but you will get the basics.

I might give this a go tomorrow night. Looks like the online WCOAP is going to be limit anyway, although I do hope it changes to the previously advertised Pot-Limit. I"ve played some micro-stakes stud-hi cash on Full Tilt to get a bit of a feel for it. Ah i"ll probably only be donating to the prizepool but what the hey...

observations on the rebuy

see you sunday

I missed Monday"s one but last night & tonight were the best laugh I"ve had playing poker since........................well since the last time.
-
Just to clarify with regards to tomorrow evening"s Stud event. The event will in fact be Limit Stud. Blue Square had confirmed that Pot Limit was an available option, but iPoker are now unable to set it up. Apologies for any inconvenience caused - but tomorrow"s event should be excellent anyway.
-
Ah I tried a limit tourney yesterday and it was the most boring thing ever, the first hour was hell, even though I was getting decent cards I couldn"t get enough money out of them due to it being limit then when the blinds went up enough to get good sized pots I was getting good starting hands (I think) that would never improve. Will give this a miss but good luck to everyone who will be playing...

I registered yesterday without any problems.
The only restriction is having $82.50 in your account to play, other than that, any APAT member can enter.
If it"s still causing problems, either contact Blue Sq Customer Services or you could try just re-installing the software.

Only got my chips in as 93% fav tonight maybe I should aim higher ;D
GG though guys enjoyed that, thanks APAT and GL all.

Well, that was different.
Good luck to everyone left playing (which is most of you).
Once it"s done, I would be really interested to know where the skill element of the game is. It seemed to be a case of whoever gets the best cards wins, which sounds a daft thing to say, but it"s very tricky to bluff or get reads on players hands due to the limit side of it.
The chat on my table seemed to suggest there was little skill in this, or maybe as the fish on the table, I just don"t get it. ;D
Anyway, if anyone fancies starting a thread in the strategy board to explain Limit Stud poker, I would most certainly give it a read.
Good Luck All. ;D

Depends how many calling stations you get, you get some in NLHE, you get more in any limit game - in stud you seem to get the most.

Just gone out to mr luckfest himself ( go on you know who I mean lol)
short stacked and his pair of jacks held up against my flush draw, well done :"(

Limit poker in any variant is a lot more skillful than NL surely you can see why?

Try getting your KK busted by 88 two nights in a row (Stud & this). You know 88, the hand that busted my JJ in the 6-max and that flopped another 88 for quads against my AA44 d/s for most of my chips in the Omaha.

No bad beat stories from me, I was just shiz.
GL to Charlie (janc59) who"s the current CL. He"s bullying well and would be VERY deserving of his first big APAT win!

Oh well, having Aces cracked twice again, hasn"t helped. Last one for 78k pot for fourth spot, but out 28th very disappointing. Played 1 hand terrible earlier v Sirpercival a-q, convinced for some reason he had KK, call all to rvr and lose to AK. Obviously with A on flop. then A"s cracked, recovered, then shove A-Q v Stuart again, he calls QQ i spike A. So swings and roundabouts and things. Good tourney, and good luck all left in.
-
i"m hoping to make a second final table in a row as i came 9th in the online english tournament

Anyway, if anyone fancies starting a thread in the strategy board to explain Limit Stud poker, I would most certainly give it a read.
Good Luck All. ;D
Looks like its a shame I missed this one. There"s an awful lot more skill involved in playing stud than most newbies believe. Like Hold'em, starting hands, table position (relative to the bring-in) and understanding the mindset of your opponents are very important. However, as you don"t have the option of shoving all in, you have to try and think how a hand could potentially develop on later streets to avoid getting yourself into trouble. Anyone who routinely calls to seventh street without being 100% certain they are ahead will be a consistantly be a loser.
I don"t pretend to be a particularly good stud player, but I have spent an awful lot of time playing both stud hi and hi/lo cash tables over the last 18 months and regard myself as competent. Unless you"re an experienced stud hi player, avoid hi/lo like the plague. If you do fancy giving stud hi a go, you could do worse than read the following:
1) Always pay attention to the cards that have been dealt face-up even after an opponent has folded. Remembering what cards have gone is an integral part of stud.
2) Table position is hugely important. The lowest "up" card posts the bring in and if therefore is effectively dead money. If the bring in is immediately to your left and everyone folds to you, you must raise.
3) Likewise, the less people there are to act behind you, the greater freedom you have to get creative.
4) Large pairs are all very well, but you must be prepared to ditch them. As a general rule, if you start with a pair and your hand hasn"t improved by fifth street, its normally time to bail out.
5) Stud is a game where the winning hands are biggies much more frequently than in hold"em. Flushes are common and it can be profitable to chase them, but with a couple of provisos (a) If you want to chase a flush, look for starting hands that have the potential to turn into something else i.e three high connected cards of the same suit are considerably stronger than three scattered lower cards. If your starting hand contains three (or even two sometimes) of the same suit, take a look at how many upcards there are of that same suit. If you can see more than 2 of the same suit as you"re after, don"t even go to 4th street if the flush is your best chance of glory. As mentioned in point 1, keep an eye on what cards have been exposed as, obviously, the more of "your" suit that"s gone, the less chance you have of connecting.
6) The same applies to having 3 connected cards and playing for the straight. Keep an eye on how many of your outs are still live.
7) Its very rarely a good idea to slow play any hand in stud, but one situation this can prove profitable is if you are dealt three of a kind - generally known as rolled-up trips. It can often work to your advantage to simply call on early streets, then reraise for all you are worth later in the hand after the bets have doubled and some of your opponents may feel they are pot committed.
8) If you get to 7th street and you"re not certain you are ahead, I would strongly advocate folding to any bet unless you"ve convinced your opponent is a complete villain or trying to represent a hand you know he can"t have. If you routinely call "just in case" you may occasionally be pleasantly surprised, but this will be more than outweighed than the occasions when you really are behind.
9) If you are new to the game and feel like a bit of cash play, please PM me to let me know which table you are playing on ;)
-
Well done Brian, awesome results throughout the year and much deserved.
I got off to a flyer and was coasting until I was moved Owstonfish"s table ;)
-
Thanx to everyone for your kind words....much appreciated, as always.

Wow only just caught up with the forum since the weekend. Top result for the rankings Brian!! And also to Tod for the win. Congratz both.
BCPC FTW!!
-
...Anyone who routinely calls to seventh street without being 100% certain they are ahead will be a consistantly be a loser.
...
The problem I think Leigh was alluding to was that when you have 3 or 4 players who will routinely call to 7th then it becomes a game of just catching the cards until those players bust out. A made hand against a draw is a standard stud scenario but a made hand against 2 or 3 players, or a draw against 2 or 3 players favours them rather than you - however well you are playing.
They will bust out - 2 or 3 players against the rest of the table will favour the rest of the table - but you won"t necessarily be one of the players to benefit. You"re just as likely to be knocked out - that"s why the number of calling stations can be so frustrating.
...
8) If you get to 7th street and you"re not certain you are ahead, I would strongly advocate folding to any bet unless you"ve convinced your opponent is a complete villain or trying to represent a hand you know he can"t have. If you routinely call "just in case" you may occasionally be pleasantly surprised, but this will be more than outweighed than the occasions when you really are behind.
...
That"s just wrong - you shouldn"t get to 7th in that situation, if you get to 7th you should almost always call.
-

[/quote]
You"re right in suggesting that you really shouldn"t get as far as 7th street without knowing where you stand but it happens. On the face of it, folding on 7th street appears strange as you"re almost always going to have pot odds, but to say making the call is always the right play regardless ignores all the thought processes that could possibly lead to a hand getting that far. Ultimately what I"m trying to suggest is that anyone who gets to 7th street without being certain they are ahead is highly likely to be behind. By calling "just in case" the amount you may pick up is considerably outweighed by losing that final bet all the times you are behind.
