Yes, there is a thinly disguised Bad Beat story at the heart of this but I am curious to know what the majority would have done here.
£20 F/O with 5K starting stack. I have 6K, villian has me covered just. I have seen him before and don"t have much info on him but he"s not a complete fish.
UTG+1 I have AA and raise to 300 (L2 50/100), folds to SB who raises to 1200. BB folds.
Would you
A) Call
B) Make a raise between 2,400 & 3,600 total
C) Shove
-
Mix it up between all 3
-
Shove.
-
prolly shove but sometimes call, nothing in between. Trouble is live players 3bet/fold too many good hands, this is why calling can sometimes be the only way to get his QQ/AK type hands all in.
-
shove
-
Fold
-
Fold
There"s always one... and it"s usually you Jon :).
You would have folded if you were SB as you know from Sunday I never open weak ::)
-
mix it up between A and C. deffo not doing B. 4 betting 40% of your stack is effectively going all in anyway.

I"m shoving in this situation.

Unless I"m up against a super nit here I probably flat and try to get it in on the flop or turn.
-
Why shove here?
By 3betting you might get him to call you"re 3bet or push all in himself. If you shove on him he"s probably folding hands you have crushed like AK/AQ which wouldn"t be a good result
-
Why shove here?
it depends but some people are happy to get TT-QQ/AQ/AK in pre here after 3betting, who may fold if they miss the flop or overcards come to their pocket pair. Depends on the opponent
also he has 3bet - a shove or raise by us will be a 4bet. A 4bet by us that doesn"t go all in might as well include a sign saying "i have aces"
-
im re-thinking this one, my gut is telling me i should raise but i also see the advantages of calling but i really hate calling with aces pre, better to raise to induce a shove and then leave it to the gods. If its worth a call then its worth a raise!
If you raise he has 2 options both of which could pay off, he can call or shove!
If you shove he has 2 options where only one of which will possibly pay you off. he"l call or fold.
id raise and leave him with the decision!

Thanks for the responses - Like Maverick1 I hate calling with Aces pre (always fearful that they catch-up) so I opted to shove.
The responses tell me that no-one thinks this is a bad play although some see merit in calling.
In this case Villain tank-called with Pocket 9s (Pocket ******* 9s...... for all but 600 of his stack) and spiked on the turn so Ironically calling and then moving in on the Kxx flop would have taken it down.

You"re being results orientated.

What do you mean by this George? (sorry if I"m being dense)
-
basically you only question the play on this hand because you lost. If your Aces hold you wouldn"t even think about making the post. That is What George means
results orientated - basically questioning your line/thinking based purely on the result of the hand, rather than the optimum strategy over x number of hands in a similar situation
-
Makes sense - thanks both

I can"t see why you didn"t beat him on the river (with your name).......... ad1

Still waiting for my name to "work" for me....."one time"

It will happen, you might not win the hand but you will river an Ace :o
Nah good luck Ace :)
