Post by: APAT on February 17, 2010, 20:57:01 PM
APAT ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF SEASON FOUR

February 17th, London:  The Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) is delighted to announce details of the fourth season of its critically acclaimed tour for developing poker players.

Seasonal highlights include:-

New Tour Sponsor:  Betfair.com will become the headline sponsor of APAT in Season 4; in a partnership that will bring a tremendous amount of additional value and opportunity for APAT members.  Betfair.com will exclusively host all APAT National Championship and National League fixtures online, and satellites for APAT's live schedule of tournaments.

Added Value:   The tour will offer APAT members the chance to win thirty three seats to GUKPT main events and twenty three seats to APAT Professional League tournaments.  In addition, each of the season's seventy five amateur, professional and online tournaments will be run completely registration free for players.

APAT live tournament events will now typically comprise three events.

Amateur Championship:  APAT's core schedule will feature seventeen international amateur ranking events including three stops in continental Europe; in Austria, Estonia and Spain, with the undoubted highlight being the seven event World Championship Of Amateur Poker (WCOAP) at Dusk Till Dawn in August, which will feature the debut of the sixteen country World Amateur Team Championship, plus Heads Up, Six Max, Stud, Omaha and HORSE Championship events, in addition to the 414 runner World Amateur Poker Championship main event.

Professional League:  The PL will feature seven events capped at fifty players utilising a deep Pot Limit Hold'em structure, which will bring skill to the fore.   Featuring a registration free buy in of £250, each event will have a GUKPT main event seat added for the winner and be open to APAT amateur and professional members.  Played on a Saturday alongside the Amateur Championship event.

Specialist Series:  A six event series in mixed poker disciplines, capped at 50 players.  Featuring a registration free buy in of £25 with added value seats to APAT Professional League events for the winners of each leg.  Played on a Sunday alongside Amateur Championship event.

Online Championship:  Ten Championship events with a $50 buy in, each with added GUKPT seats for the winners, plus ten Omaha side events with a $20 buy in; each with added value seats to the APAT Professional League.

National Online League:  Three divisions featuring thirty poker clubs from cities across the United Kingdom and Ireland offering fantastic prizes including seats to GUKPT, APAT Professional and APAT Amateur Championship events for winning teams.

Sponsorship Packages:  The winner of the Professional League will win a £20,000 APAT sponsorship package for 2011.  In addition, the winners of the Online and National Amateur Rankings will join the 17 Amateur Champions from season four and the player with the most points finishes across Amateur and Online events, to compete in the APAT Champions Final, to play for a second APAT £20,000 sponsorship package in 2011.  This event will be held in February 2011 and venue details will be announced closer to that time.

Increased Profile:  A number of APAT Amateur and Professional Championship events will be streamed live through APAT tv during season 4 while reports from APAT live and online events will appear in APAT Magazine, which will be launched this month and distributed to over 20,000 APAT members online.

Post by: APAT on February 17, 2010, 21:46:59 PM
A couple of things to say.

Many APAT players have come of age through playing affordable multi day tournaments with us over the last four years.  We feel the time is right to offer those players an opportunity to step up with the introduction of the APAT Professional League.  With the outstanding prizes on offer, this is certain to attract some strong professional players and our existing players will learn more quickly playing alongside them.  We look forward to charting your continuing success.  To answer a question that will be asked, we"re not going to allow multi tabling of amateur and professional events.

An end of season Champions final will identify our player of the year and what a prize he or she will win.  A £20,000 APAT sponsorship package for 2011.  This event will feature the best of our players from live and online and it should prove an incredibly fitting end to a superb season.

We"ve also added a series of fun specialist events on Sunday"s and we hope to see Pot Limit Omaha, Stud and Razz feature in those schedules.  With a £25 buy in and a seat in the next APAT Professional League event up for grabs, we"re sure these will prove very popular.

One further point on our live schedule of events.  The clickfest has always proved problematic and wildly expensive to host in merchandising fees.  Clickfest seats will now be sold through a special Betfair tournament lobby, which will go live at exactly 9pm on the advertised clickfest night.  This will save us a great deal of effort and should be a far smoother process for members.  The Seat Exchange and player list will be managed as in all previous years.

We"ve listened to member feedback on our online schedule, where a Pot Limit Omaha Championship event has been added alongside every online National main event during the season.  Every main event winner will win an added GUKPT seat while every PLO event winner will win an APAT Professional League seat.  Their will now be two National Leagues during the season, split into three divisions based on finishing positions last season.  Every online event will be registration free to APAT members, as will our 28 live Championship events - which will represent a huge saving for each of you over the season.

So to Betfair.  They have a great live pedigree as the sponsor of the World Series of Poker Europe and it is pleasing to know we will be amongst their key focus areas in Poker in 2010.  I would like you all to welcome Betfair into APAT with open arms, because there are a number of further initiatives that we have planned during this season and the support of our members in playing with Betfair is key to their delivery.  This is a fantastic win win partnership, so please ensure you do your bit.

We will make some further announcements over the weekend and we hope to launch APAT Magazine at that time also.

Have a great season everyone.

Des Duffy
Managing Director
Amateur Poker Association & Tour.

Do you have any links to download the Betfair software that can benefit APAT? Neither myself or Ju have Betfair poker accounts...

Post by: APAT on February 18, 2010, 21:15:07 PM
Betfair links will be on the site over the next few days, but our sponsorship is effectively paid, so feel free to go to their site directly.  APAT does not earn any affiliate commission.

I am so glad the announcement is finally out.. Not sure I can make many of the nationals, will try my best as always if a weekend off is available, but I am glad that APAT have gone with Betfair Poker because they are a very good site and have put a lot into poker in the last few years, and looking like they are going to continue.

Congratulations to you Des, and the others behind the scenes, you have come up with a very good schedule and I cant wait for the online series to start..

Right boshi get ur skates on and sort out a Google Calender like you have done in the past few seasons..  ;D ;D

Well it was a long time in the making but WELL DONE GUYS.......can"t say that you haven"t put the effort in.
One thing that may or may not be an error....under "Specialist series", should that really say NLHE on 20/6 or should it maybe say PLHE ??

As to the European events, could we have the cities asap so that we can get some flights, etc sorted out.
Will the Spanish one be near to Benidorm as me Bro lives there ??
If it is then I can see the BCPC going en-masse !!

Which events will be assigned ranking points? medals etc.?

Will the National Leagues be the same format as last season?

Will there be online qualifiers for all the Amateur Championships and Professional League events?

I am excited for the year ahead. Looking forward to it so much.
A bit of a shock at first seeing the professional tourneys in the "Amateur Poker Association" calendar, but it is obviously well thought out and organised.
I am learning fast and this can only bring my game on even more.

A big thumbs up from me

Full ranking points (18) to multi day events and half ranking points to side events in Amateur Championship.  All events will award medals.

Full Ranking points (18) in Professional League and medals.

Full Ranking points in Online main events and half in Omaha Championships.  Both will award medals.

Specialist Series will be a fun series without rankings or medals.

National League will run in same format, but we"ll have two 10 match leagues as opposed to 1 20 match league.  Prize structure to be finalised as we don"t have an 8 seat GUKPT budget for this, but we do have around £5k to allocate.

Qualifiers - yes, same as S3 - Monday $20, Tuesday $10, Weds $5 rebuy + $50 Pro League satellite.  Thursday clickfest at 9pm.  Same structures on all events.

It"s more a question of whether there are five dealers who know how to spin the cards!  We will have detailed discussions with the casinos over the season with regards the mixed events, but it would be interesting to see this one go the distance.

Betfair are putting a press release out tomorrow morning.  They are very pleased with this relationship; obviously APAT is high profile when compared with the World Series of Poker Europe.  ;D

They will be putting up an APAT landing page, APAT promotional page, emailing all of their UK players next week and taking branded APAT ads out in the poker press.  They will be extremely supportive.

Naturally we didn"t want any of that to happen until we"d spoken to you all first.

Couple of Q"s:

Will the buy ins for the Specialist Series be online too or just buy in when you get there?
If it"s the latter what kind of capacity will these events have and how will they be assigned?

Are the Professional league seats put on sale at the same time as £75 buy in?
In the case of multiple-events per date (ie DTD worlds) will all events go on sale at the same time?

If you play one or two of the professional events does it prevent you from playing future £75 ones?
(I"m assuming no but realised at DTD when trying to register for a beginners tourney never to assume!)
Title: Re: Season 4 Announcement

Very good all round. You get a tick and a gold star.

Don"t want to be picky just yet but I have a question.

Some of the venues were a bit cramped in S3 and places had to be limited. Won"t another 50-seat event running alongside affect the numbers that can be accommodated in the Amateur event?

Secondly, someone in the points shake-up may be faced with the conundrum of whether they should pass up a Pro seat they have won in order to try to maintain their position in the points race. I know points can also be won in the smaller Pro event but, presumably, they don"t come easy.

Both of these would be alleviated by running the Pro event on the Sunday. I know there is an additional event that day but there would still be fewer runners combined than on the Saturday.

Good idea.

Only problem I can think of is casinos having the ability to run 3 separate tourneys at the same time.

Well done to Des and the rest of the APAT team to putting together a really superb season schedule and package. I was blown away but how much there was on offer (especially the non-HE games).

Some, points which aren"t meant to be criticisms.

I would like to re-iterate the need for the European cities to be announced as soon as possible in order for those (like me) who are really keen to research flights and hotels.

Yes, yes, I know they are months away.

Space...sometimes at a premium. I notice that Aspers in Swansea advertises a 100 seat poker room...and you"ll fit in 200? I"m well under-height :) and hate being that cramped.

Only 50 seats for the Specialist Series...really? I could fill that with my lads alone. I think APAT has massively underestimated the demand here.

OK, perhaps that came off too critical which isn"t my intention. I"m very happy with what"s on offer as I know it"ll be a huge success...I just want MORE.

It"s very easy to overestimate the demand for some of those games, i.e.  a lot more people say it"s a great idea compared to how many people actually want to buy a seat.

Having said that I suspect that the cap is more down to a supply side issue rather than the demand.

on the down side $20 sat to win a $50 seat for the welsh online is very strange

but once again thanks for all your work at apat for season 4 and good luck

I believe it is a $20 sat into the £75 live event (same as last year)

Jon, you are right on both points, I suspect, especially on the supply (read..dealers) side. However, I"d rather have a 100 seat tourney on offer and only have 70 runners than a 50 seat tourney with 20 disappointed punters.

But, hey-ho...the longest journeys always start with a tiny step in the right direction.

At least we have more (i.e. more than 1) non-HE events this year

Couple of questions if I may.

1. By running the 50 seat Pro League tourney, will the entry to the £75 Amateur tourney be cut to 150? If so, then a shame, but progress is progress I guess.

2. Think capping the specialist Sunday games at 50 is severely understating the requirement, although I suspect there are many local restrictions from car rooms in play. Will these be closed to APAT members only? Will pre-registration be required, and if so how will that work for people who go deep in the Main Event (refund?)?

3. No more questions

Kinda limits the entrants to those who bust out of the main event or am I missing something? Would locals/railers to the main comp be allowed to play?

Then again, for me, a trip to Wales just to play a £25 comp would be silly.

I think the primary aim of the Sunday events was to cater for people who had bust out of the main event (ie the people who would be there anyway)

But the exact registration details would be interesting.

London, for example, would be a Sunday event that I might be tempted to just play the Sunday game without bothering with the main one :)

Thanks for your note yesterday Ross.   I believe everything in the lobby is in dollars; despite the multi currency wallet, so the direct buy in to the clickfest will also be in $ - $120 - which is nearly £79.00.  All of the entry money will be sent to the casino, so effectively there will be x number of players times £79.00 in the prize pool.  All of the money will be paid out in sterling at the casino.  Should be fine.

While I"m bitching raising legitimate concerns...how many non-pro runners will there be in Swansea...100, 150, 200 or...?

Aspers gives their capacity as 100, I doubt they can double that.

Even 150 seems unlikely as they will also be running the Professional League comp at the same time on the Saturday.

I"m afraid the number of seat available to us average amateur punters is going to be severely diminished this season.

100 Amateur seats are available in Swansea, in addition to 50 Pro League and 50 Specialist Series seats.  The majority of the venues in season 4 will have 150 Amateur seats and DTD will have many more.  With the Pro League sponsorship package at stake, I expect a number of existing tour members to step up and play that.  That said, we can adjust the numbers easily within a week of the event, so if we only had 30 register for the Pro League, we would allocate a further 20 seats to the Amateur Championship event.

well done Des for sorting out such an exciting schedule. Really looking forward to this.

I think that its a shame that the number of seats available for the amateur tourneys are down, but the flipside is the professional series. This is a great initiative and I really hope it works well.

That said, I do think that a 50 runner £250 buy in will struggle to attract pros, but will cetainly suit amateurs with bigger rolls.

As for Betfair as the main sponsor....

I do remember Neil (lukyburger) winning a package with them and being really disappointed with it (sorry only bitching)

They are a massive company and they have been super generous with their sponsorship. I like the software. It is very simple and functional. I always set my other sites in a similar way. I am looking forward to playing more on there.

Also, 1 question (and apologies if its already been answered). Are the satellites for the online tourney on friday really $20 for a $50 seat?

Thanks again for an excellent S4! Sadly I can"t make the Wales affair (40th Bday event), but I hope to see you at the Vic.

Good spot Joe - we were just testing you all.  :D

All comms with DTD have the WCOAP festival running between the Thursday and Bank Holiday Monday.  This one slipped through and we will correct on our calendar!!  Do you want a job?  ;)

Quick question;

Will our new sponsor be providing a market on the poker events?

That could be very interesting...

As betfair is not a bookmaker, you can set up any event for betting. The difference being we would be betting and going against each other...

Hat"s off to the schedulers ... some great work.

Question:

26/8 - World Amateur Team Championship - DTD, Nottingham - £100

What is the format going to be here?

"Pro League" could be great - though I cannot make Swansea.

Will rest of diary/calendar out later.

Betfair gave me $30 for nowt not so long back which is sound in my book. Like Swinebag says theres nowt wrong with the software ive played on there quite a bit finding the mtts to ne pretty crap ( struggle for runners ) but cash games+ev & never had any probs.

1 question. What is the reason from swapping from Cardiff to Swansea?

Probably the same reason it switched from Edinburgh to Aberdeen instead of Glasgow.
Got to give those "cities" that have nowt else to shout about a chance every now and then.
Equal opportunities innit :-X

Venues is always a tricky part of the process. This time round opportunities for Cardiff and Glasgow became unavailable at a late stage which was down the venues not down to APAT.

Both Des and I know Aspers Swansea, who will do an excellent job

Hear good things about G Aberdeen too. The alternative would have been Dundee. IMO that would have been trickier to get to than Aberdeen

Have to agree that Aspers, Swansea is a good venue.
As its in the main drinking area of Swansea, a Saturday night after the Wales vs Italy rugby should prove to be interesting!

Firstly congratulations for all your hard work in securing a new sponsor ,and a great season 4 schedule ,if you dont stay in the north of england or central scotland. Imo the national venues are very biased towards central england(understandable as most apat players come from this area). This is not sour grapes, but i am totally underwelmed, especially having the scottish in Aberdeen. Also why the spanish tournament on 8/1 2011,just after xmas/new year when money is tight and most people have just gone back to work.
Sorry to all who work so hard for apat, for no financial gain ,but this is the first time in 3 years i have felt compelled to vent my feelings.

Hi Des,

Just a quick grumble (although it doesn"t bother me!) from my girlfriend - she was hoping for Newcastle and Liverpool and lots of British cities she hasn"t yet visited. Coventry and Luton didn"t go down well, although I hear the casinos are fine, so it doesn"t bother me!

I see you"ve changed the dates for DTD in August back to 26th-30th. Phew! One small thing - shouldn"t the main event have the date 28th August (3 days, so finishing on the 30th)?

Finally, how do I get into one of the teams for the team events? Do I have to be invited? Or start up a new team?

The World Team Championships will be 16 countries and captains will be selected by APAT and they will then select their team.

The UK Team Championships will be forum based as per the past two seasons. Each forum has a different method to select their team.

The Online National League requires you to join up with your local club and play in a ten match league structure online at Betfair Poker.

Hope that helps.

Al,

£75 Amateur event will be standard APAT National payout structure.  Basically flat until 4th, then increases for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st

£250 Pro event will have a more structured payout, similar to one you would normally see in other open live events.

I can"t give you exact details at the moment, but assume 10% of field will cash.

Not a problem John.  It"s easy to miss the Uzbekistan APAT announcement, what with everything else going on this week.

The present capital of Uzbekistan is called Tashkent. It has previously been called Chach, Shash, Binkent at various times. Each of the names is a part of the city"s history. Tashkent has always been an important international transport junction. Unfortunately, only a small part of its architectural past is preserved, due to demolition of historical and religious buildings after the revolution of 1917 and a massive earthquake in 1966. Some old buildings lie in the old town to the west of the downtown. A myriad of narrow winding alleys, it stands in sharp contrast to the more modern Tashkent. Of interest among the older buildings are the 16th century Kukeldash Madrassah, which is being restored as a museum, and the Kaffali-Shash Mausoleum. Many of the Islamic sites in Tashkent, like Khast-Imam structure, are not open to non-Muslims, and visitors should always ask permission before entering them.

Tashkent houses many museums of Uzbek and pre-Uzbek culture. These include the State Art Museum, which houses a collection of paintings, ceramics and the Bukharian royal robes. The Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts exhibits embroidered wall hangings and reproduction antique jewelry. As important historical figures, such as Amir Timur - better known as Tamerlane in the West - are being given greater prominence, the exhibits and perspective of the museums are also changing.

No, this will follow the structure of the European Team Event from previous seasons.  So effectively, 16 countries, with a captain selecting their team.

The UK Team event will be held in Bolton in January 2011.  That will be the same as the Manchester one was from season 3.

There is no "live" or "grand" final now, with league positions deciding champions and promotion and relegation.

We have potential to add other competitions into the league structure, but not for this season.  I think there"s enough going on at the moment.   ;D

Does the online league still have a live final now that you can declare a premier division champion? Are there prizes for both?

There is no "live" or "grand" final now, with league positions deciding champions and promotion and relegation.

We have potential to add other competitions into the league structure, but not for this season.  I think there"s enough going on at the moment.   ;D

room for a Cup competiton?

I humbly request to not have another forum team championship, as a lot of APATers are excluded from these.

I have a question regarding the Speciality Series being held on the Sundays which, as far as I can see, has not yet been answered.

The message I seem to have received is that these added comps were, primarily, intended for APATers who had busted out of the main Saturday comp as a sort of "added bonus", especially for those who have travelled long distances and incurred additional expenses such as hotel rooms,

So, my question is, do the APATers in the main comp have priority/first offering over locals?

Understand, I have no problem with locals/railers making up the numbers but if my above understanding is correct then surely* there needs to be some "pre-registration" procedure in place.

Of course, this may be in hand, but I haven"t seen it in B&W yet.

* Don"t call me Shirley. :)

I don"t know

but

I would hope for some kind of pre registration like at the tournament which was held as a side event at the Europeans last year.

Something like - people who have preregistered can register for the Sunday tournament from when the venue opens on Sunday. Then anyone can register from half an hour beforehand - and obviously with alternates being allowed, albeit not so many might get in with the limit events.

That gives a priority for all APAT members first rather than those playing - but I think it would be a reasonable way to do it.

Great work on the new format! Is there a google calendar like last season? Makes planning everything a million times easier.

A lot of APATers are "excluded" from other live events by not being able to get a seat, not wanting to play "Speciality Games", travel issues etc..

The Forum Team Challenge is a means of spreading the news of, and drumming up interest in,  APAT across the interwebz and in areas where it otherwise might not reach. And it"s only one comp. There are plenty of others.

There were 20 forums represented last time, not everyone who wanted to play from those forums (fora?) were chosed so they were excluded too.

I had, originally, excluded myself from my forums team (sorry, the forum to which I belong, not "my" forum) but was able to get in as a late sub. Not that I covered myself in glory going out second to a 2 outer on the turn.

In the end, the answer is simple, if you want to play in the team comp, join a forum, even the APAT forum would do, post more, become well known and get picked.

Interesting comment here Paulie.

Why would an individual neccessarily need to become "well known" to represent a forum that they may be a member of if say, their results were good enough to merit a spot if that was the chosen criteria of that particular forum?

Also, was this/would this be a factor in choosing which forums would gain entry to the team competition, "you"re only a small forum and not well known, so you have a lesser chance of obtaining a spot in the team comp?"

What was the method used for choosing which 20 teams would participate in last years forum team comp?

Agree with Geo, seems that this could be very cliquey in that the most frequent posters are picked with the better performing players being over looked.

Personally a live team event based on the online teams from all divisions with the best performing players representing their team would make more sense. Just my twopenneth anyways.

I think the APAT teams showed that not only was selection based on contribution, but also skill level.  I think the same can be said for most forums.  Also, i believe the actual forum list was dran at random so it is not unfair at all.

Personally I tried to get onto a forum team for the last two years: the first year I was highest placed in their league but too low profile on the forum, the second year I was too high profile. Got sick of it after that. Likewise the first team for a lot of Edinburgh APATers would be Officepoker, who I guess weren"t high enough profile last time, which instantly excludes about half the Edinburgh online team. I"m very enthusiastic about APAT in general, love the ethos, but politics wearies me.

You have a point, I was just trying to make the point that the Team comp is different from the other Nationals. It"s entirely there to drum up interest and spread the word about APAT. I believe that Des made that comment. (With apologies if I"m mis-remembering).

How each forum chooses their team is down to them and by their nature they"ll tend to be cliquey and the internal politics bore me too.

As for how the individual forums are selected, the criteria are based on the reasons for the comp. By that reasoning, the tendency is to "pre-select" (if you will) the larger forums.

Therefore THM, Blonde, APAT, Punterslounge etc., being nationally based, get "preference".

As I said, it"s a different comp from all the others...more of a "marketing" thing than anything else.

Having said that, there were still teams with much smaller "bases" represented.

They may be more likely to get switched round year on year - but a smaller forum/team is not necessarily going to miss out on the team events.

Like Paulie said if anyone disagrees with how any particular forum picks a team then that"s a matter to bring up their forum rather than here anyway.

And it"s not like the team championship is instead of an open championship - if it didn"t take place, it"d just save the sponsor a bit of money. So there"s no actual loss to anybody who doesn"t take part in it, there just isn"t any gain.

If anybody does feel really strongly about it though - I think the best protest they could make would be to boycott it

This is precisely why the question was asked. On one hand we say it is to encourage others but on the other we say that preference is given to these forums due to their numbers, however these are predominantly APATERS anyway.

Personally I believe the only "givens" should be an APAT team (being the organisers) and the previous winners. After that a draw between all forums expressing an interest that can prove they can provide a team.

I get this, and there was debate on it previously. I believe that only guaranteed team is, in fact, APAT but Des & Crew select the others.

Their criteria were mentioned based on the reasons for the comp in the first place. Other forums get "preference" in the selection process, not a guarantee. Membership is clearly a big tick in the box but a smaller, perhaps more well know forum will tick another box.

Skill level is not necessarily a factor. It certainly isn"t in my case. :)

I"m happy for Des, Richard et al to pick. A draw of teams wouldn"t necessarily (he hastily qualifies) achieve the reasons for holding the comp.

For one comp out of the many, I"m happy to let this one be different.

Well, one more space for eveyone else.  ;)

I am gathering all this feedback, as it is an interesting discussion.  We have a few ideas to try and give the "qualifying criteria" a bit more structure this year.  Not always easy to do, and I guarantee you now that we won"t be able to please everyone, but we will try our best.

The UK team event is one of the most over subscribed events of the year.  With a number of forums/clubs missing out completely, and a large majority of those competing forums requesting to enter multiple teams.  I"m not sure even a venue such as DTD would be able to cope with the demand.

It"s a very tough event to win aswell.  These team events require a blend of poker skill and experience that is mixed together to create a team capable of beating the best the UK has to offer.

Who are the reigning champs ?  I can"t remember.   :D

I don"t think wholesale changes would be a good idea - after all you don"t get 10 teams at a time being relegated and promoted from the Premiership do you.

I haven"t looked at exactly what effect it would have but I would expect something like the top 5 teams get invited back plus the team that all 9 of the final table individuals represented would be a good idea

In theory that would mean a maximum of 15 players (including APAT) and the rest could be changed but obviously in practice there would be an overlap

Any more than that then you would lose too much continuity from year to year.

NB: Rio, glad you appreciated my boycotting advice  ;D

I"m not sure what you mean by this Jon, surely the 9 players on the FT would have come from a number of teams?

So, let"s for arguments sake, say 9 teams each get 1 player to the FT, when those players come back, what forum do they represent in the following year"s comp which is, after all, primarily a team game?

By all means let APAT and the previous winning forum (if different) get guaranteed places in the next comp but after that, let Des et al decide who they want in.

Do a clean sweep and let all new forums in or whatever, I think we all trust them to do what"s right for the majority and APAT as a whole.

I"m of the opinion (obviously) that this comp is different from all the other offerings from APAT, put on for different reasons, and normal criteria of fairness in selection do not, necessarily, have to be applied.

Even if there are 11 teams remaining, that"s 9 spots, assuming it"s a 20 man competition. To be fair, I"ve played in both events and I got the impression that generally, only 3-4 players per team score points as a maximum. If this is the case, why not have 40 teams of 5? From APAT's POV, it solves the problem of different forums wanting places and if there"s spare places, then I bet the bigger forums can have a second team? Every forum gets a shot then.
Title: Re: Season 4 Announcement

Actually, even with 40 slots available, I think you could easily get 40 forums wanting places and still turn some away.

If we are correct in our assumption about what Jon was saying, it"s possible for a team to get a single player to the FT with no others scoring points (my forum did exactly that this year IIRC).

While I""d be happy to come back on that basis, is it really fair that my team comes back on the basis of a single player?

As I said, uproar ensues!

There"s clearly no easy answer that will make everyone happy but I"m content, as I mentioned, for Des & Co to decide which teams he wants in THEIR comp.

20 teams were in I think

If at most 15 automatically came back that would be 5 effectively relegated.

In a football league of 18-26 you only get 3 or 4 relegated a season.

And in practice there will usually be overlap so there will be 6 or 7 changes, like I suggested before I think wholesale changes to the teams entered would be a bad thing as it would destroy the continuity of the tournament (which is an important thing)

Why shouldn"t one player "save" a forum"s place in the tournament?

Once only one player is left towards the end of the tournament they play for themselves - if a final table position guaranteed their team a place for the following for another shot at the team title, it carries forward the "team" element of the tournament further than otherwise.
Title: Re: Season 4 Announcement
Post by: Paulie_D on February 24, 2010, 21:12:35 PM
I guess we"ll just have to disagree Jon, the only continuity that should apply (in my opinion) is APAT & the winning team (if different :)).

The other teams should "earn" their spot from one year to the next based on whatever criteria APAT chooses.

This comp isn"t about the individual players or their teams...it"s about APAT. In that respect it"s different from all other APAT comps. If a wholesale cleanout of the previous teams helps spread the APAT spirit I"m all for it.

If we really want it to be a "team" thing, knock out the individual prizes...[/more uproar]

There will be a direct buy-in to the pro game through the Betfair Lobby, the same as the amateur event direct buy-in.

Hello people.
I"m new on this forum and want to say hey.
I"ve a question about the APAT tournament in Estonia. (I"m sorry if the question has been asked before).
Is it possible for me and my friend to buy us directly into the tournament in Estonia (75£)? And if yes, when is it possible?
We"re planning to order fly tickets and hotel and want to be sure that we can play the tournament before we order.
Really hope you can help me on this one ;)

Regards,
Andreas

Noticed quite a few satelittes for betfair live.

And with it being the capital city and therefore easily accessible?

Olympic Casino Tallinn would be a good bet. Been to the Olympic Casino in Riga (decor made it resemble Fred Flintstone"s cave, but who am I to complain?). We"ll be in for a good time if the two are comparable

Actually, Tallinn is pretty hard to get to/back from (from London) on the dates in question.

EasyJet fly direct but they don"t have a return flight on the Monday.

Current best projections are to fly via Helsinki and take the ferry.

I posted this on Blonde but probably should have posted it here.

Just had a good look at the schedule for series 4 and wish all at APAT the very best of luck with it.

For the last 6 months I have all but stopped playing, poker, wasn"t really a conscious decision it just kind of happened over a period of time, in part due to other commitments and in part due to pretty regular profit from sports betting. To be honest I really haven"t missed it at all. That was until the series 4 schedule was posted. I"ve always enjoyed the spirit of the APAT events online and live, and while I"ve not missed poker I miss the social aspect that comes with APAT. I may not get to many of the live events but will try to play most of the online ones, the fact I play so rarely now may even make poker seem fun again. I also think the Omaha side event with the online nationals is a great idea.

Current information is that the Specialist Series seats will be sold Saturday/Sunday at the venue only.

They are primarily intended for players busting out of the main event. If you make Day 2, you would have to unreg from the Specialist Series....I do not believe that multi-tabling will be permitted.

I want to play in the Razz tourney on 18/4 is there any way I could reserve or pre-reg without travelling to the venue either: making a special journey the day before or on the day and possibly not getting in?

I won"t be playing in the 2 day event, any idea on max. runners for this particular tourney?

Basically...No. You would have to make the trip. I am not aware of any plans to extend online registration to the Specialist Series.

The basic premise was that the Specialist Series was intended to give the players who had busted out of the Main Event something to do on the Sunday especially if they had travelled long distances. Of course, they have generated a lot of interest from members who are not playing the ME but that was the original intention.

I believe that the Specialist Series events are limited to 50 runners.

It"s all a bit up in the air...as I said, the intention was that these seats would be for players who had busted out of the ME and so tt might be that they will get the first option on the seats (at least that"s my hope) but nothing is known for certain.

As for how the how the list will be managed, we just don"t know...it might be managed by the casino or, alternatively, an APAT official with a clipboard and a biro.

We"ll manage a list on Saturday afternoon for APAT players to put their names down for the Sunday event

With the option to withdraw if they make Day 2

We"ll then pass that onto the casino on Saturday night

The list will then be opened up to all comers on Sunday morning at which point the casino will be holding the names until toruney is full

We"ll see how it goes this weekend but that"s the plan

No plans at all for remote entries/entries via friends. It"s primarily for Day 1 bustees.

2. Player List(s)
3. When will the remaining unused seats in the Pro Series be transferred to the Main Event
4. How will the additional seats be sold?

1. Dress code is fairly lax. Trainers are fine, as is most casual wear

2. Pending receipt from Betfair

3. They won"t be, the Pro event will remain open for the day itself

4. n/a at this stage. If we decide to open up seats for the Amateur it will be on the day

5. No, see answers 4 and 5

6. Early evening, usually 5 levels in

7. I think I need to go to google

To be really sad and boring  ;D

Liquid Soap
William Shepphard first patented liquid soap on August 22, 1865. In 1980, the Minnetonka Corporation introduced the first modern liquid soap called SOFT SOAP brand liquid soap. Minnetonka cornered the liquid soap market by buying up the entire supply of the plastic pumps needed for the liquid soap dispensers. In 1987, the Colgate Company acquired the liquid soap business from Minnetonka.

i was thinking of playing the "pro" events but i just don"t think i can make enough of the events/venues this time round as i have alot on this year outside poker and the travel for alot of them is prohibitive for a one day event. See previous post....answer found in the proper thread.

What will the buy in be on the day for the pro event?

Interesting...£250 SHOULD be tha answer but I recall that the exact figure was different due to currency fluctuations and was in the £257 area.

Assume £250 and bring an extra £10 just in case.

I"ve bought in online thats the problem.

I would rather unreg now and buy in on the day but betfair have taken the holding tank away.

Can someone confirm what is happening please

People buying on the day will pay £250

As the holding tank has been taken down there simply isn"t the option to withdraw and pay in on the day

However, as this is a new process, with new procedures for us and players (and of course a first ever APAT non sell out) I"ll note this down for event 2 and investigate the holding tank/taken down issue for then

I"ll mail Betfair Rich but I don"t think this is right that Betfair have taken this money what about people who now cannot make it? As well as the ones cheesed off by their appalling exchange rates

As to the holding tanks, we are taking that up with Betfair

It"s more expensive on the day, based on the exchange rate today when the money was transferred to Aspers.  Players buying in on Saturday will pay £263

It is not accepting anymore entries Rich. Wasn"t available for the clickfest last night and just tried to reg when I seen the above post. Still showing only 100 regged. But when I try to reg it gives the "no more room in tourney" message.

If there are more can I please register a request for 1 as I have tried tonite.

I noticed somebody said something like that yesterday when it was on 92 entries, and obviously 8 more people have reg"d since then - it"s a bit odd really.

I spoke to Leigh, Des and Tighty this afternoon and they have confirmed that Betfair appear to have made an error. Unfortunately, the people at Betfair who can re-open the lobby are in Swansea for the most part and cannot do anything until Monday.

Expect movement then.

Looking forward to it.

Can anyone give any feedback on the Swansea specialist tourney, was it sold out / well attended?

Did anyone get in on the day?

The reason I"m interested is because I want to play in the Razz tourney in London next month, I reckon Razz is the least popular poker variant going so any info will help.

Thanks in advance.

It sold out to 50 runners

Some people got in on the day, though the safest way is to get in when it"s opened up at 4pm on the Saturday

I think the Razz will sell out.  A popular but rare game likely to appeal to APATers and Vic locals

Looks like it was only 60% sold, what a joke.

People were prepared to support this event but couldn"t enter without making the venue in person 24 hours before the start.

I would respectfully suggest a less adversarial approach would be more likely to illicit a sympathetic response from the APAT organisers. In the words of our illustrious Chairman, cooey-wooey ftw.

Perhaps it"s possible for main event entrants to signal their intentions before the weekend. I"m sure there"s quite a few, like me, that have no intentions to play any of the specialist events. Perhaps only those that post they"d like to play if they"re out of the main event and still at the venue would be pre-registered, all other seats open to all on the Sunday?

Although I"m not convinced it would necessarily lead to a bigger uptake of seats.
Title: Re: Season 4 Announcement
Post by: BillySollocks on April 18, 2010, 20:50:24 PM
I tried my best to offer possible options for players wishing to play in this event who weren"t playing in yesterday"s tourney. According to the advice given to me, the only "guaranteed" way for me to be assured of a seat was to arrive yesterday at 16:00.

The travel costs for me to register in person yesterday and again to play today were nearly double the cost of the entry. I even posted last night to get an idea if it had sold out, again to avoid the risk of travelling without a guaranteed seat. As you can see, the only reply indicated it was a virtual sell-out.

I don"t really know what more I could have done to convince the organisers I was serious about playing. I was 99% sure this event wouldn"t sell out but I was assured by others here it would.

If I may be allowed to offer some advice for the future, how about allowing in person registration between (for example) 4:00 and 5:00 then allowing telephone registrations using a debit or credit card as guarantee?
Title: Re: Season 4 Announcement
Post by: Paulie_D on April 18, 2010, 21:10:27 PM
While being at the Vic probably was the only "guaranteed" way to ensure a seat, on reading back I think it was referred to as being the "safest" and reported numbers were encouraging. At no point did anyone say the competition was full.

It"s unfortunate that the cost of travel for you to just play this event was -EV for you but, with respect, you are not the intended market.

It"s been stated many times that the original intention of these "Specialist" games was that they were put in place for bustouts from the main tournament. Many people travel long distances to play these events often at great expense and having an additional "side" event was intended to increase the value to THEM.

As for what you could have done to "convince the organisers of your seriousness"... from what I can see, you just asked a few general questions.

I would echo a previous poster and respectfully suggest a less adversarial approach.

I feel the need to reply to the above post:

I never accused anyone of saying the tourney was full.

If they"re not specialist tourneys, why call them that?

In my opinion the following quoted posts are not general enquiries, in fact with 1 exception I have only ever posted in this thread and asked direct questions about today"s Razz event:

Quote from: BillySollocks

When will this be confirmed?

I want to play  in the Razz tourney on 18/4 is there any way I could reserve or pre-reg without travelling to the venue either: making a special journey the day before or on the day and possibly not getting in?

I won"t be playing in the 2 day event, any idea on max. runners for this particular tourney?

Thanks,

Billy

Haveing played and luckly won the side event in Swansea! I think that APAT are offering the best package in amatuer poker.  I wish I could play more events as I think the organisation and sports man ship is next to non.  I have played on other higher buy in tourneys and not enjoyed them half as much as the APAT evets.  The only problem with APAT is I still have no medals lol. Keep up the great work Des, Leigh, Tighty, and the new lovely lady!!!

Good luck to you too and I hope to make your acquaintance at a future event.
