This will be 100% confirmed later but I wanted to post asap that it looks like the start time for the UK Amateur Championships on Saturday 17th April will be 1.30pm and not the usual 2.30pm

Sorry if this causes any problems, but it is a venue requirement as we have two competitions that afternoon taking up 20 of their 24 tables. They"ve requested a slightly earlier start for the NLHE comp to free up some of their table capacity for their busy Saturday night trade, where cash games of all shapes and sizes normally fill the room.

Thanks for your understanding.

Hi

I hope I have just registered for this on Betfair.
However it says that it is on April the 8th at 2100, have I therefore registered for the wrong thing?

It is called "APAT UK Holding Tank #359983" for $120? Currently 121 out of 141 max seats.

Thanks in advance
Keith

Hi, I"ve registered for the event at the Vic via Betfair. However, it cost me £82 which is worrying me slightly that I"ve registered to the wrong event?! Can somebody please tell me if I have? It was $120 which obviously isn"t the usual £75? I hope I"m in the right event!! Many thanks..

With the exchange rate etc there will be slight anomilies - however the extra goes into the pot - so more money for you when you bink it  ;D

Adds a whole new dimension to buying into APAT games...... buying in on a Thursday at 21:00 may be -EV compared to leaving it until next evening, and taking the gamble of tickets being available.

Hello

I"ve just registered on APAT and looking to play in the Live UK Tournament on 17th April at the Vic. A posting I read advised me to join up with Bet fair and buy a place through that site but having just registered there, I cannot find a way to enter this tournament. I"ve also tried the Vic casino but they are saying it"s not to do with them. Please can you help me with exact details of how I buy a seat for £75.

Thanks

Unfortunately, the £75 event at the Vic is currently sold out. There may be the possibility of an alternate seat on the day but these are usually few and far between.

Seats occasionally become available on the Seat Exchange (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?board=37.0) but you will have to make your own enquiry.

For the future events, keep monitoring the boards for the dates of satellites and direct buy-ins (all through Betfair Poker).

Oh...and welcome to APAT.

If I"m not at the Vic at 2pm do I lose my seat or will I be blinded out until I show up?

As I paid my buy in via Betfair online it should be ok I hope.

Just in case my Eurostar arrives late...  ???

For the record I registered as "superballok" and come from Lyon all by train

thanks for the update,

This is my first apat live event, I bought into this event via Betfair and I was just wondering how it all works, do I just turn up with my ID or is Betfair going to send me some kind of confirmation email. At the moment it says that a tournament is running when trying to close the Betfair Poker Client but I read that it is only for admin purposes?

You just need to turn up on the day.  Betfair may send a confirmation email, but APAT will have your details.

You will need to be a member of the casino, so if you aren"t already, you will need photo id with you to get signed up.

I think you can pre register on Grosvenor"s website to speed things up on the day as far as the membership goes.

Yes, just turn up at the Grosvenor Victoria with photo ID and they will issue you with a membership card.

Make your way to the Poker Room and, all being well, you should be pre-registered for the tournament.

I"m sure Des will get on the briefing shortly but I"d just look at the one for Wales (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=5627.0) and adjust accordingly for London based on the information available in this thread.

I meant in general rather than specifically this one - but then I"m very much a proponent of the idea that you can never have too much communication
Title: Re: UK National 2010 - Grosvenor Victoria
Post by: Paulie_D on April 09, 2010, 10:18:32 AM
I"m with you there Jon...I suspect there are some logistical issues though.

I"m guessing that the primary one is the cut-off date for the Player/Email list which is always evolving as players register/unregister &/or sell/buy seats.

Send the email too soon and you miss people off who might need it, too late and the value of the email is diminished.

Plus...as we all know...sometimes the final details aren"t set until just a couple of days from the off.

I"d be happy to knock up a temporary briefing (which was sort of the point of this thread) but I think I"d be stepping on Des" toes...and I weigh far too much for that!  ;D

[EDIT]

No need....I hear there"s a briefing on the horizon....coming...SOON  :D

I"m not sure how many are registered at the moment, you would have to check the tank on Betfair (if it"s still open). I think there were 12 last time I looked.

It ran with 20 last time, I"m absolutely sure that we will have enough to run it on Saturday.

I don"t think there"s a minimum - I"m pretty sure it will run no matter how few are registered

The event will run.  There has been a lot of local interest in this.  I"m not sure it will hit the cap of 50 runners, but it may get close with registration available on the day.

Also the venue should have been promoting to its regulars, we"ve also spoken to Neil Channing who is a regular there and has access to a lot of players in his "stable"

I"d guess we"d comfortably beat the 20 from Swansea, but not sell out

I had a question from an APATer about flying into London for the UK tourney and which airport is best.

In my opinion, if you have a choice, Heathrow would be your best option as it"s on the Underground and will get you to the Vic with a little changing around. It also has overground rail links but these cost more although the Heathrow Express will have you in Paddington in a jiffy.

The Undergound is cheaper but, of course, the Express is quicker.

See Transport For London (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/) website.

Gatwick and Stansted both have decent overground rail links to central London but LHR is the way I would go.

Cheers,

Paulie

I just meant really that if you can do a discount airline into luton or stanstead for that matter the overall travel time isn"t that much greater than going to heathrow, and far less than into Gatwick

Yet the overall trip cost would be cheaper, or could be

Yeah...true.

TBH the player was coming from Scotland and so Luton might be an option.

I confess to a preference to LHR for my own travel (in the past) purely because it was doddle for me to ge to when to I was motor-less. Underground all the way with one change at Baron"s Court. Nowadays I prefer to drive as it"s simple spin round the M25

When planning travel for my firm, Luton tends to get overlooked, mostly because it"s not well supported by the airlines. I think EasyJet have a lock (don"t they own Luton?) and we treat it as a last resort.

I do a lot of travel booking for my firm and I"ll have to do a sticky on some of the lesser known search tools and money saving options around.

I am in - but a couple of my friends were keen to join - they are Vic regulars so might well buy in tomorrow if that was on option.

Unfortunately, I don"t think that"s possible at this late stage. There will be direct buy-in for the Pro Series event on Saturday but I would get there early(ish) as I suspect that this might prove very popular.
