Booked it 95 Euros a night for the room -- fine with me
Fully cancellable I hope...since we don"t know for certain where the comp will be held?
-
Leigh said it was - and he is god
-
I am sure it is on here somewhere, but where exactly is the tournament in Austria being held?
Vienna
I rest my case

It had better be Vienna, otherwise I may be commuting to the cardroom. ;D

Oh..true...but there"s more than one casino in Vienna.
There"s 2 Concords for a start...
Just like to know which one it is for certain.

I"m pretty sure Rich was trying to get details finalised on this. I definitely remember he had a conversation with Des in Swansea. It went something like :-
Des, do we have any contacts in Austria ? ;D
-
I am sorting out the small print for the Austrian event, not finalised to fully announce yet
However we are going to this Concord
CCC Vienna (Brehmstrasse 21, 1110 Vienna).
for those looking to book early cheap flights

Taxi from the Vienna Airport...I found this...C&K Airport Taxis (http://www.ck-airportservice.at/web/ck/uk/rubrik5_id26.html)
Once we know whose staying where and arriving when, I"m sure we can arrange a meet-up at the Arrivals lounge and split the cost.

If you haven"t booked your flight yet, I found Austrian Air from Heathrow for £125 return via Expedia.
-
Travelling via Frankfurt on KLM (using my air miles ;D) land in Vienna @ 18:35 on Friday 14th.

Hmmm...I"ve got bloody thousands of United Airlines (trips to Vegas don"t you know)...but they don"t fly to Vienna.
I"ll check the codeshare offers but £125 is cheap enough. Could get the train to Aberdeen for that. [/shudder]

Travelling via Frankfurt on KLM Lufthansa (using my air miles ;D) land in Vienna @ 18:35 on Friday 14th.
FMP
I thought UA was part of the star alliance (as are Lufthansa) so why don"t they honour your airmiles ???

They are...just not sure if I can USE airmiles to book. I can EARN miles with Austrian (if I book direct) but that costs more than booking through Expedia.
TBH...I"m gonna be using up a load in October to upgrade to Business Class to LA so I"m not that fussed.
Hmmm...Austrian (via Expedia) have a 14.05 flight that lands in Vienna at 17.25 only a few quid more and I can leave the car at home, take the tube to LHR and save on Airport parking. Works out about the same.

Great idea - I"ve got some Airmiles somewhere. Found a Statement with 1899 miles, which is enough. Apparently not - their rules say that your account is deactivated unless you add Airmiles at least every two years, so they closed my account in Sep 09 just cos there hadn"t been any added since 2001 - the buggers. I told them that"s the same as a bank emptying your account and keeping the cash if you don"t use it, but for some reason they weren"t persuaded.

In the light of recent developments, where Iceland farts a cloud of dust and all flights in and out of the UK are affected, I have been researching alternative ways of travelling to Vienna.
A leading expert predicts that this will be spewing on and off for the next two years.
So, if the worst comes to the worst, it's either road or rail. Rail is the preferred way as I can relax with a bevy or two. Not bad at all.
London (St Pancreas)

Brussels (Midi)

Cologne

Vienna
London-Brussels - £69 return (Eurostar to Brussels in 1hr 50 mins WOW)
Brussels-Cologne-Vienna £70.60 return (SparNight in a couchette compartment WTF)
More information on the rail options...HERE (http://seat61.com/Austria.htm#Vienna)

Latest "Ash News" is encouraging. Looks like [touch wood] flights will be back to operating normally within the next week to 10 days after the airlines have repatriated everyone and got all their aircraft back to where they need to be.
Being a worrywart, I"ve been holding off booking the flight...I"m about ready to commit although I"ll probably wait "til this weekend just to make sure.
-
I have bought straight in and booked flights on Nett flights, £142, Austrian Air and staying at the San Fransisco, 65 euros incl buffet brekkie, flying in lunchtime on the Friday coming home Monday afternoon.
Hoping that nasty Ash is history by then please!

Cab share to Holiday Inn - Vienna South anyone?
-
Arriving 1240 Saturday on Austrian Air from Heathrow booked through travelocity.co.uk staying at the hotel caroline which looks about 1.5 miles away from the venue. Price was less than £200 for two nights b & b & flights. Worth checking out for anyone considering playing this.
Anyone on same flight who wants to cab share to venue please pm me.

Well after debating which to play in.. this or the UKIPT at DTD I"ve gone with my heart and booked for Vienna.. how could I not :) Vienna was my first ever APAT a few years ago, which included meeting some cracking fellow APATers, a drive from Bratislava with John, the Orange Wings which was my first stay over APAT hotel, kebabs for breakfast and it was also my first APAT cash, being busted by a German fella in the end who went onto a WSOP bracelet of all things :)
Flying from Manchester on the Friday getting into Vienna airport (via Zurich) Friday evening and staying somewhere called Gartenhotel Gabriel City. Looking forward to it. Just need a valid passport now.. oooops... :-\
See you all there whoever is going...

The Duke (Ger) is arriving around 6.30 so he might be up for it.
I"m there about 5.10 so I"ll probably be in the hotel slopping up at the Holiday Inn bar by the time you arrive.

No problem I can stick around

Been doing a bit of research and for anyone going via the airport you can get a train on the S7 line which stops at Geiselbergstrasse which is a few hundred yards from the casino. The single fare is Euro 3.60 and the trains leave at 18 and 48 minutes past the hour. Journey time is 16 minutes so consider my cab share offer cancelled. :P
Please click on the attached link if interested.

Due to arrive around the same time as Ger and Phil, so will probably stick around to share a cab with you guys.

Went to check in on line
No joy - no sign of the booking - panic was setting in
Rang up and they said I had booked with BMI but was travelling with Lufthansa so I have to queue at the check in desk.
Bad beat I hate queueing.
Anyway if we have enough people the taxi costs approx 40 Euros so not too bad. If not the train looks like a good move with a taxi from the station.
Don/Phil I will PM my mobile to you in case we miss each other at the airport

FFS don"t let me have to use my one time in order to get to Austria

Recent images have shown activity in the Eyjafjallajokull volcano intensifying.

Assurances around "getting" to Vienna are not really in APAT's control. Des is good, but controlling volcanoes and European air space are not in his skillset, and yes we will send him on a course. ;)
With a significant number of players being local to Austria, travel would be less of an issue in whether the event took place or not, but we will need to speak with the venue on Monday to get a latest position.
And yes, you would be able to buyin on the day. Rich Prew is hopefully on his way back from Glasgow as we speak, unless he flew in the end, in which case he"s not yet worried about getting to Vienna, more worried about getting away from Glasgow. So we"ll know more when he gets in contact with the Concorde Casino.

Pretty sure Tighty flew to Glasgow in the end. GG Tighty. GG
