Depends on your definition of "cheap"

I use TRAINLINE (http://www.thetrainline.com/buytickets/?) to suss our prices.

I suppose there are coach services...try NATIONALEXPRESS (http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx) ...or Google.

Trainline charge a fee which obviously the train companies don"t if you book direct.

East Midlands trains usually have the cheapest general fare

Megatrain is the cheapest - unless someone can find cheaper than £1.

Seems fair. It just reflects the market - who would want to go back to Southampton?

Popular choices for hotels in Nottingham within easy driving distance of DTD.

Holiday Inn - Castle Marina (http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/notuk/hoteldetail?_requestid=488876&crUrl=/h/d/6c/1/en/hotelsearchresults&rpb=hotel&_requestid=488877)

Castle Bridge Road
New Lenton
Nottingham, NG7 1GX

I believe (info is a couple of years old) this hotel offers a "Dusk Til Dawn rate" which is around the same price as booking in advance online (£60+) but allows a refund if you drop out. Ring them up and book on the DTD rate with no deposit required. Check before confirming.

Premier Travel Inn Nottingham (http://www.premierinn.com/en/justBrowseSearch!execute.action?searchModel.map=false&searchModel.searchTerm=nottingham&CMP=KNC_Gb)

Castle Marina Park
Castle Bridge Road
Nottingham
NG7 1GX

Around £50 a night (less if you don"t take the flexible option)

Travelodge Nottingham Riverside  (http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=161)

Riverside Retail Park
Tottle Road
Queens Drive
Nottingham
NG2 1RT

Often some real deals here...check their "Saver" page. Prices as low as £19 a night. You can only book these one night at a time but if you make multiple reservations there are some real savings to be made. However, be aware that to get these rates you have to book well in advance and they cannot be cancelled.

Innkeepers Lodge - Nottingham (http://www.innkeeperslodge.com/lodgedetail.asp?lodgeID=45)
Toby Carvery
Wollaton Park
Derby Road
Nottingham
NG8 2NR

Often has a "3rd night free" special offer. You can get 3 nights for around £100+

riverside travelodge is within walking distance

Have you done the walk personally?

I only ask because when I go, I leave the riverside travel lodge, walk past Toys R Us and basically around the perimetre of the retail park, continue past the car dealerships then cross the footbridge across the dual carriageway. Is there a quicker way to walk?
Title: Re: places to stay in nottingham
Post by: Paulie_D on April 16, 2010, 19:03:53 PM
It"s about 1.25 miles (says Google Maps (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=52.934103,-1.164744&hl=en&geocode=FbK5JwMdogbu_w%3B&gl=uk&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=16&dirflg=w&sll=52.932913,-1.171181&sspn=0.008588,0.019505&ie=UTF8&z=16)) so c.25 minutes walking.

Yeh I have stayed at the riverside travel lodge before, we also walked. I think the best way is through the retail park in the direction of the roundabout, think you can jump out somewhere there, then over the footbridge. It is a bit of a treck, but when you are going to be sitting down for hours its a nice walk on a sunny day.

Usually knackered by the end so its a taxi back, but only costs like £3

Yes that is the walk that makes that travelodge within walking distance.

But I know plenty of people who wouldn"t consider that far walking distance.

Hello there

Would anyone have any recommendations for hotels near DTD as I haven"t played there before. I can"t seem to find anything too close. Is there anything within staggering distance or not really? Any suggestions or recommendations would be most welcome.

Many thanks

the closest hotel i know of is travelodge riverside it"s about a half a mile or so away from the casino, it"s £45 during the week or £60 on friday and saturday nights for that week apat is in town. if that is too expensive like me you can stay at a hostel in the town center and commute to DTD it would cost you less than £100 to stay for 6 nights staying from the 25th-31st august, go to hostelworld.com for more info on that.

The riverside travelodge had a big overhaul since DTD opened, the timing of the reviews might be relevant

I"m staying at the town centre Travelodge for the WCOAP, that"s had really bad reviews, but I"m hoping investing in some ear plugs will negate most of what was complained about.

were staying in town centre premier inn goldsmith street  total for Fri till Tues was only £82 each two of us sharing twin room ,but booked it months ago taxi to and from DTD about £8/£10 stayed in centre last year and although have to comute out to DTD ,means that during day you are free to go anywhere in centre (pubs off course)

if staying out nearer to DTD would have to travel in to town most days anyway

Plumped for the Premier Inn Castle mumble although it cost me 50 sheets so I"d love to know where the 27 quid comes from...The Travellodge even had a noise warning on it"s own website lol.

Walkit.com reckons I can get from the Premier to DTD in about half an hour so I"ll do that if the weather"s nice but defo cab back.

Thanks for your hits and misses.

The Premier Inn in the city is £33 (Goldsmith St) is the one being referred to above. It"s different from the one in Castle Marina.

The Goldsmith St one doesn"t have its own parking and is further (i.e. higher cab fares) away from DTD.

If you want to be in the centre of town it (or the Travelodge) are "decent" choices for the money but I"d pack earplugs just in case but these things are usually exaggerated.

i don"t know why everyone is waisting their money by staying in hotels as there are plenty of cheaper options i.e. hostels, i"ll be there from the wednesday till the following tuesday and the cheapest i could find for all 6 nights was the igloo backpackers hostel for £86, on average £14.33 per night. and it"s about 2-3 miles away from the casino.

Just booked for two nights at Uni of Nottingham, couple of miles from DTD. £60 + breakfast in one of the halls. Bit of a nostalgia thing for me as I studied there and if memory serves me right the rooms are not quite Premier Inn standard but it"s walkable in a push from DTD.
