N1 Wayne. If you wanna meet up with Charlie "janc" and I, we"re still trying to arrange a game and meeting place for the night of Tuesday 20th - the day after I get married out there.
Below is part of the last email I sent him yesterday morning;
The 7pm game at Golden Nugget ($65 + $19 & one $40 ReBuy) would suit me fine.
As would the 8pm at Binions ($70 + $20 & one $40 ReBuy).
If you"d prefer to play earlier than 7pm and / or prefer a FreezeOut, MGM Grand do a $125 + $25 on Tuesday night at 6pm. I noticed that the % return was higher than the other two at 80% (stats got from a Tourney comparison website I"ll PM you if you"re interested).
I see that Imperial Palace run a $80 + $15 Freezout on Tuesday night with an 81% return. I"ll happily play there if you two want to. You"ll have to enlighten me on the venue though as I hadn"t even heard of it until last month!
We should maybe start another better-named thread about this ... Vegas in November 2007 perhaps.

Neil/Wayne,
I would highly recommend the game at Ceaser"s Palace. When I was last there I think it was about $110, twice per day. 40mins blinds and 100-300 entrants.
I played at many other venues and many were crapshoots, best to check the structure first before signing up. Avoid Luxor at all costs. (IMHO).

Thanks for that Stuart.
I have Ceaser"s and MGM Grand (where I"m staying) bookmarked for at least one tourney each. Then, if I was able to grab a drink and a tourney with both Charlie on Tues and Wayne on Wed night, one or two other tourneys elsewhere.
I"m going by recommendations at http://www.pokerplayermagazine.co.uk/poker/features/2618/get_everything_you_need_from_poker.html
and I"m using a tournament schedule that can be found by Googling "las vegas poker tournament schedule" - it"s the 2nd one down.
The daily Freezouts - 7pm, 5,000 chips, 40 min blinds are $150 + $25 and
11pm, 4,000 chips, 30 min blinds, $120 + $30 only average 80 players apparently.
I"m def going to do the 7pm one on the Sunday night in the hope that it tops 120/150 players and I"m off now to mention it to Charlie ...

Hi Charlie, was just gonna PM you ...
Whadday you think of the above as well as / instead of Tuesday night? (I updated at 22:22)
I started a new post so that everyone who wanted updated on Sat night"s tourney isn"t having to listen to us rubbing it in - http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=580.msg8978#msg8978
-
Can I move the chat from your congratulations email at http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=569.msg8977#new to here ... ?
If anyone else is out there and wants to meet up or can recommend a tourney, get posting.
-
Good call Neil. Good luck to you all in Vegas, we"re looking forward to the updates!
-
WOW, THAT WAS QUICK DES! Many thanks.
News will obviously be posted back ...
Replying to the following PM:
The 7pm game at Golden Nugget ($65 + $19 & 1 $40 ReBuy) would suit me fine.
if you"r ok with it i would prefer this one as its our last night ( not far to bed after a good celebration drink)
Good call. Golden Nugget, 7pm Tues night it is.
Register from 5pm, 2,500 chips, 20 min levels, 1 Rebuy it averages just 30 players so it"s finished just after 10pm - perfect!
Now to pick a pub to meet in ...

sounds good to me on the sunday night, but don"t you get married on theMonday?
:D

://www.allvegaspoker.com/ has a full list of tourney times, structures, payouts and field sizes. I was out there in March/April last year and managed a first and 2 final tables finishes at Ballys. It doesn"t mean I was any good, just that the competition is notoriously soft there. Treasure Island is supposed to be very good and Planet Hollywood has recently been improved. Michael Mizrachi hosts a tournament at the latter 3 times a week with a $300 bounty on his head proceded by a question and answer session. I"m sure he"s quaking in his boots knowing I"m coming for him in 3 weeks ;D
-

Yep, gettin" married on Monday night, 7pm. The ceremony only takes 7.5 minutes apparently ;D - even if I"m tired I should be able to keep my eyes open for 10 mins (including the short two-legged commute to and from the limo) :o
Sorry Simon, forgot to add your name to the header. Added it into the header of this post but don"t know if it will propogate throughout ...

I am hoping to play around the $100, so the Ceaser"s game that Stuart mentioned seems to be the one, especially since I am just across the road, but don't arrange anything around me. Just tell me wear you will be playing and I will try to meet you there (not over $120). I prefer to play in the day as well, as the wife will be with me and I don't want to leave her on here own at night. (And yes I am under the thumb)

Bring the wife downtown with you she can keep mine company :D

Edit the original post... you can change the title.

Having thought about Wayne said about leaving wives at night (I"d normally have no problem doing it! ;) ) and considering the few things we have booked in Vegas already, I think it would be more suitable for me to post that I will be playing;
Saturday
MGM Grand - Midnight onwards (3 hours or so) - $1/$2 Cash Games (with $150/$200 each)
Tuesday
(Hoping that the six of us can meet up for this one)
Golden Nugget - 7pm (5pm Registration)
$65 + $19 & $40 Rebuy, 20 min Blinds, 2.5k chips (2-3 hours)
I hope to be allowed to play the $1/$3 cash game at Ceaser"s for a couple of hours on my first night (Friday 16th).

I"m staying at the Westin Casuarina (behind Ballys) and land at McCarran at 9.30pm on the 23rd (friday). I plan on starting at either Planet Hollywood at 10am or Treasure Island at 11am on saturday. Plans from there are fluid but for the rest of the trip, T.I., PH and Ballys are on my definite list with MGM,Caesars (tempted by their Omaha tourneys) and Mirage on my "maybe" list. If I manage to fish my way to some prize money in the first couple of days, I may take leave of my senses and have a go at either The Venetian or Wynn. Bellagio is defintely off limits as there is a series of pro tourneys the week I am there.
-
I"d heard about the Pro Tourneys as that was the week we had originally planned to go. The weekend of 24th / 25th is Thanksgiving Weekend though so MGM was almost double the price!
From the report in PP mag and on their website, MGM at Thanksgiving weekend should like an aquarium (given the size of the place though, maybe more like a ocean)! ;D
-
each casino does seem to have a specific clientele and the MGM poker room is inhabited by early 20-somethings from southern California who are there for the drinking.
-
Looks like i"m off to the MGM ;)
-
don"t tell the wife, but the MGM poker room is next to a nightclub, so playing in the evening means you"ll have to avoid staring at all the scantily clad lovelies wandering past.
-
There"s no poker tables IN the nightclub is there ... ?
-
If you"ve not been before, you just have to play the Venetian... it is the best cardroom in Vegas, bar none!
Plenty for the wife/s to do upstairs at the Grand Canal Shops while you have a couple of hours in the poker room.
-
How did you get on there Mr Rodent?
-
How did you get on there Mr Rodent?
Venetian or Vegas in general?
I"ve been to Vegas twice... during WSOP 2006 - took $3000 cash, brought home $3000 all but a few $s (included a $1000 WSOP buy-in)... and during WSOP 2007 - took the $3k from last year, brought home a little over $5000 (including $2500 in WSOP buy-ins). So generally I"ve done OK! :-)
In the Venetian... 2006 - profit in $1/$2 NL cash, and a small profit in 3 x tourneys... 2007 - only played one tourney there, no return :-( I didn"t play any cash there this time, busy elswhere.
I"m not suggesting it"s the best/softest game in town, just that it"s by far the nicest room.
For a bit more info take a look at my blog. Go back to July 11, 2006 for day 1 of first trip and June 21, 2007 for day 1 of this year - http://riorodent.blogspot.com/
Whatever you do you can"t fail to enjoy it and start counting down to your next trip!!
-
Cheers for that. I"d got the impression that The Venetian was one of the tougher card rooms although I"ve not previously spoken to anyone who has played there. It opened at the end of my last trip so I didn"t pop in for a look; I will this time.
-
I was interested to read the article in Pokerplayer about Michael Mizrachi playing $65 tourneys at Planet Hollywood. I definitely plan on having one go at him, but will the man with over $5m in tournament winnings be up to the job of taking on Britain"s 7th best amateur Razz player in a few weeks? Mr Mizrachi, in the words of Our Lady Saint Delia, "Let"s be having you"
-
I hope such a tourney continues to be a huge success and that other casinos follow suit in "hiring" a pro for us to sit with in a £30 tourney!
-
I think you"re onto something there. Any chance of "The Devilfish" turning up for the regional event at Yarmouth next week?
-
Neil
are you playing on the wednesday?
-
I"m not sure. I do hope to but it will depend on whether we"ve done all the other sightseeing stuff we"ve planned. I"m hoping we can all meet up on the Tuesday night but understand that this is your first night ...
-
This time next week i"ll be there yipeee :)
-
This time next week (+1 day) I"ll be 30k feet above the pond in a Virgin Big Bird!
Any suggestions on meeting places for Tuesday at Golden Nugget? Reg from 5 "til 7 - 6pm sound OK to you?
-
11 days for me
can not do Tuesday
playing Cesers $200 12pm on the wednesday
-
Ok what about this.
Tues 20th, meet at the Golden Gate casino bar at 6.00pm ( about two mins walk from the nugget )
the reason for choosing there to meet is it is only a small place and easy to spot each other.
-
Suits me. See you then Charlie.
And I MIGHT see you on Wednesday afternoon Wayne ...
-
Bring the wife downtown with you she can keep mine company :D
With "them indoors" out of the way check out the pu$$ycats at Ceasar"s at the weekend, simply magnificant!!!

He didnt win at the bingo again, did he. ::)
-
He did! Well Janet did! $480 I think it was. He had a good day on Tuesday but I"ll let him tell you all about it.
My trip consisted of;
Friday night: MGM Grand, $1/$2 Cash game, I lost $100 in just over an hour.
Sunday night: A wee trip to Ceasar"s and 15 mins just standing watching the Pu$$yCats - awesome! Didn"t play - just drooled! We walked past Chris Rock and his buddies twice down near the boutiques at the pool area.
Monday afternoon: MGM Grand, $65 tourney, 21st of 95.
Tuesday night: We met up with Charlie and Janet (we were late due to the terrible rush-hour bus system they run over there), we played a $105 tourney in Golden Nugget and we both bombed out shortly after the first break.
From there it was onto Fitzgeralds where the 4 of us joined 35 others in the $50 tourney. It was mostly locals, it was a good atmosphere (bloody chilly though!) and the structure was v good. Charlie and I made the final table, neither of us having re-bought. I finished 5th after I re-raise UTG with AQh. BB goes All-In, I call, he curses. He flips K6h (?) and catches a K on the flop to leave me short stacked. Next hand (BB) I shove with A6o and get called and beaten by QJ. $188 for my troubles.
Wednesday night: A Sit"n"Go in MGM Grand - REALLY REALLY BAD, don"t ever play them! 40 minutes it took! 12 min blinds, 25-50, 1,000 chips - honestly! Then back to the $1/$2 tables with $100 which I turn into $180 in about 2 hrs.
Trip was good. Long ride home though!
-
Many congratulations to you and your bride Neil, and the best of luck to you both in future.
Des.
-
Many thanks Des.
I"m just about to sign Julia up for a BlueSq account in the hope that she can play APAT online events too (she really enjoyed Edin on 10th). I didn"t think this was possible though as we run our PCs off the same internet connection but Mary advised us otherwise.
-
Congrats Neil and Julia! Still havent seen the wedding, missed the live event but was hoping to see it on the archived videos.
Hope you had a wonderful time in vegas and that you had a lovely wedding day.
Yes, Stan and I play poker on Bsq at the same time for APAT events etc his PC is connected to wireless router and I have laptop in lounge wireless. If you have any problems being able to do it Neil give me a shout.
xx

Just got back from Vegas, 5 hours sleep in 3 days don't you just love those flights.
Since Mrs P went with me (who is a non gambler) they were little chance for me to play. No Black Jack, no Roulette and only one game off poker yes that's right I said one. I played the $150 game at Ceasar's, 97 runners 5000 chips 40 minute clock (no 150/300 level). First break I had doubled up, second break I had doubled up again. At which point I decided to stretch my legs were I stumbled on the Pu$$y Cats (WOW) after returning to the poker room ten minutes late, we was down to about 55 (top nine get paid). Picked up some good hands, Ace's twice, Kings once, Queens once and AK three times all within about 30 hands. At this point was in the top 5 out off 20. After that I was total card dead.
To cut a long story short, I folder my way into the money, finally finishing in 5th place for $800, going out on 88 v A9 A on the flop. I could have been more aggressive around the bubble if I was willing to gamble and go for the win (How do you play AJ UTG when you no that someone behind you will go all in?)
Congratulations Neil, sorry we did not meet up, another time maybe?
I will Just leave you with one last word PU$$YCAT-DOLLS
-
N1 Wayne. A great result in the one tourney you played.
Defo gotta love those flights. I honestly thought I was going to be OK jetlag-wise as we were getting 4 or 5 hours sleep each night and power-napping for 1 or 2 hours during the day (UK time). That was until I nipped back to bed for a "quick hour" this morning and woke up 4 hours later.
Maybe by late "09 (if the US is still above ground and the $ is still as weak as my stomach after all those Vegas Buffet breakfasts), APAT will be offering a Poker-Only Holiday to Vegas at preferred rates (as we could book as a large group). I would not be adverse to playing entirely in front of the Pu$$yCats but, although impressed and delighted to be distracted by cleavage, thighs and high heels, I"d happily trade them, the jetlag, the high rakes and ridiculous SNG terms of MGM Grand, the smokey rooms and the constant clanging and bleeping of slot machines for a week long series of APAT deepstacks at DTD or similar.
-
I have just been looking at flights for next October/November; the cheapest I could find was £625 (direct). Can anybody help with the best way to get cheap flights?
-
IceLolly : £409 Return going out on 15th Oct back 19th Oct direct from Manchester (through CheapFlightSeats.com)
After pricing our break there at £2498 on ThomasCook.co.uk last January, we got it for £1345 through Expedia.co.uk and, having just been on looking again, I"m getting similar deals for mid-September next year - £600/£750 per person including connecting flights with BA from Glasgow to Gatwick including accommodation.
A few guys from my golf club are just back from a Golf Holiday in Arizona. They went half price compared to what they were quoted in the UK by booking through a US golf tours company. It may be a bit risky but I might be inclined to go looking for US based travel agent if I were you.

1. Join Virgin Flying Club.
2. Buy 2000 Virgin Miles for £45 - enough for a discounted flight - you will be able to save upto £200.
3. Just keep checking the Virgin Atlantic website, prices change all the time. I wouldn"t expect to pay more than £300 at that time of year.
-
Don"t yet know when I"ll feel strong enough to go back. I arrived home 2 days ago and I"m still jetlagged. The poker couldn"t have gone much worse; 8 tourneys in 6 days and not a single cash despite 3 final tables. I didn"t win a single race all week and at one point had AA cracked by AJ for a pot worth 35% of all the chips in play.
On the positive side, I"m sure the trip has improved my game by forcing me to play hands and situations I probably wouldn"t have touched before I went and I visited more card rooms than on my last visit.
I played at Planet Hollywood 4 times (20 minute levels,80 x BB starting stack, $60 buy in) and was pleasantly surprised to find that although the poker room is situated just inside the entrance to the casino, it didn"t seem to be overwhelmed by noise from nearby slot machines. The tables were of a high standard and the dealers all seemed to manage to be both efficient and personable. There did seem to be a number of off duty dealers/ wannabe pros lurking here, particularly at the start of the week.
My favourite room by some margin was Caesars Palace. I played the 9am tournament which had 30 minute levels, a starting stack of 50 x big blind and a $70 buy in. The dealers were the best I encountered, the room looked better than the others I played in and best of all, its separated from the main body of the casino by a short corridor so there is no noise pollution.
I hated the MGM Grand room (11am tourney, 48 x BB starting stack, 20 minute blinds, $65 buy in) as despite playing in the morning, there were occasions when the noise from the adjacent bar made it impossible to hear what was being said by others at the table. In addition, the dealers seemed to be going through the motions and didn"t seem to have as much personality as those at Caesars and Planet Hollywood.
Treasure Island was also a bit of a let down. The standard of decor was excellent but despite the poker room"s location, in a corridor almost opposite the Mystere theatre/ticket office, there didn"t seem to be as many players as I"d expected and like the MGM, the dealers didn"t seem to enjoy themselves as much as at some of the other rooms.
Hopefully next june I"ll be able to report back with my impressions of the tournament room at the Rio............
-
Sorry its late but been at deaths door with man flue since i came home.
didnt do much good at all untill our last two days.
The Monday before we came home i entered the binnions 11.00am $50 freezeout, having tried it twice before , and getting nowhere.,
anyhow managed to chop with a nice lady for close to $700.
same day the wife &me played a couple of $40 sit and goes at the plaza, cashing 1st &second and then 1st again.
the tuesday while neil and myself were donking off our chips in the nugget 7 pm torny my wife took along julie(neils new bride)to the bingo at the plaza, meeting up with us $480 better off. after that it was decided that all four of us would play the 9pm at fitzgeralds. to cut to the chase neil & myself made the final table with neil cashing i think forth. just to finish the trip off at the airport i finished up just over $350 up on vidio poker. should have played more of this lol.
-
Video Poker? I wasted a good few $s trying to get to grips with it but couldnae. Maybe I just got a duff machine ... :-\ ;)
-
Maybe, just maybe I have learned a few lessons from my trip to Vegas after all. After my best APAT online result on thursday, third, under my "Idrivetractors" alter-ego, I won a regional event 2 days later. Cardiff cant come quick enough.
