Title: APAT Scottish Amateur Championships
Post by: TightEnd on May 12, 2010, 10:56:42 AM
A short time ago the Grosvenor Casino Aberdeen pulled out of hosting our APAT Scottish Championships on 19th-20th June 2010. This was obviously a severe disappointment to us, and created headaches!

We had therefore to change plans, and now I can say what these are.

The International Casino in Aberdeen will now host the event, on the same dates

Saturday 19th June will see the two day £75 APAT Scottish Amateur Championships held. At present this will be limited to 100 players, though we hope this will be 120 players if the venue can secure sufficient resources to manage this

Sunday 20th June will see the £250 APAT Professional League Series event, with a capacity of 50 runners.

Both events will begin at 3pm, with casino opening at 2.15pm on both days

Sadly  the Specialist Series event on the Sunday will be cancelled for Aberdeen.

Satellites and direct buy-in for Aberdeen will take place next week.

Sorry for any inconvenience, but at least we still have an event.

Very disappointing Richard but well done to APAT for arranging an alternative at such short notice.

Really hoping I get a seat at the reduced numbers.

for those already planned hotels etc dont panic the G and the international are 100 yards apart, for those booked into the douglas hotel you are literally next door and can step out the hotel straight into the disabled entrance (but you will have to use front door)

quote from Ironside

"btw international is much better for us guys at the jurys inn means we wont have to climb the brae"

Now I assume a brae is a hill of some sort or is it a cryptic clue ???

Hiya John/Legionnaire, can you tell me please what is scheduled for the Sunday afternoon/night?

I have to admit that one of the main factors for travelling to Aberdeen (apart from seeing you guys) was that the Specialist series was a NL game if I donked out on day1...I know I probably wont but nice to have a backup plan ;-)

Suzanne, Sunday afternoon we have been asked to run the Pro Event £250 Buy-in and Day 2 of the Main Event, both 3pm start. At present we have no plans for any other tourniements during that Sunday. All spare tables will be used for Cash Games and Sit & Go"s (if demanded), all of which will be Dealer Dealt.

Is there a view as to how sparse this might make the Pro League field?

Will people who bust out of the APAT £75 field be allowed to entire the Pro League the next day?

I have nothing booked - though had shaped my calendar around the Saturday.

I look forward to thoughts.

Massive local interest, and those knocked out of amateur event will be able to play the pro event, assuming there is spaces available.

My mate is an arsenal fan.  He sells arsenic for a living.  He often talks so much he goes hoarse.  He has to rehearse his speech every week, so it"s not too coarse.

What"s the missing letters ?

Very Very Very Likely.

In fact, if I were a betting man, I may put 50p on it selling out by Thursday night.

We will run alternates for the first two levels though, so if you can"t get a seat this week and have no joy on the seat exchange board, getting early on the alternates list is another, errrrrr, alternative.

Having spoken to APAT and Blonde members as well as our own players, I don"t see how this event isn"t filled by the end of the month.

Ok, didn"t realise this was entry via Betfair only, bad time for me as I"ll be at the golf.

Anyway, that being the case, do you enter a reserve list online? If you get entry but then have to cancel, do you withdraw online too?

Unfortunately, no. Once the seats are sold, there are no more available....but see below.

If someone decides to pull out then they may unregister from the "tank" in which case, seats might them open up but I think that unlikely in this instance. Also, you"d have to be quick off the mark to notice it.

You can register your interest in purchasing a seat on the Seat Exchange (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?board=37.0) board and hope someone withdraws and then it"s up to you to sort out payment between you. More information and the "rules" can be found in the "sticky" at the top of the SE board.

The holding tank on betfair you refer to is where you register for the Scottish Amateur Championship to be held at The International in Aberdeen w/end of the 19th/20th June.

Okay....I"m now registered for this via the software. Do i need to take anything to the casino with me, or just state my Betfair alias once I"m there?

Also - the online details state the tourney starts on 19th June at 21.00, I"m presuming this is in American time and that it starts at 15.00 UK time?

It"s down to the exchange rates on Betfair.  Every penny goes into the prizepool though, there is no fee.

I tried to register for the Scottish Amateur on Betfair but the site says that registration is closed with only 60 players in the holding tank.  Yesterday the site said there were up to 72 entries but it didn"t seem to be accepting any more players beyond 60.

Near the start of this thread someone said that the field after the venue change will be 100 players, or maybe slightly more.  Does anyone know what the cut off number actually is?

Am I doing something wrong or is the tournament just full.  Is there any system of alternates during early levels at the event?  Finally, is there an administrator to whom I should be sending questions like these?

Thanks for any help!
Title: Re: APAT Scottish Amateur Championships: Please Read
Post by: TightEnd on June 11, 2010, 17:03:21 PM
The holding tank has closed a week before the event. This is because there needs to be sufficient time to transfer prize pool funds to the venue

The capacity of the event is 120, and the venue itself can sell you a ticket if you are there in person before the day, or on the day itself if tickets are still available (should be)

Alternates for the first two levels

The Casino has been selling seats for the last 2 weeks. Most of Aberdeenshire have been waiting to see how they ran in the Nuts National Final 2 weekends ago and the Summer Series last weekend, before committing. Seats are starting to move now, 20 sold at this end, I would expect that to at least double before Saturday taking the number past the magic 100 mark. FYI there has never been a 100+ game in an Aberdeen Casino, closest we got was 98 at the beginning of this year, so with any luck you guys will be making a bit of history in this town :)
Parking is a real problem in Aberdeen, with spaces at a premium due to the huge cost of land. Overnight parking can be found close to the Casino in Union Square for £2/Night, but it will cost considerable more to leave your car there during the day. I cant comment on the availability of G"s Car Park. Those of you travelling by car, if you PM me with details of which Hotel you are in, I will advice you on best places to park.

As this was clearly b@ll@cks  :)

How likely is this to fill 100 seats before the day of the eevnt?

The International Casino has emailed all 30,000 of its members with information about the event and how to register. Posters are up in the Card Room and our FB page has info on the event also.
Having spoken to APAT and Blonde members as well as our own players, I don"t see how this event isn"t filled by the end of the month.

if there are any seats left in the £75 game this weekend i will be shocked

And this is obviously closer to the mark:

The Casino has been selling seats for the last 2 weeks. Most of Aberdeenshire have been waiting to see how they ran in the Nuts National Final 2 weekends ago and the Summer Series last weekend, before committing. Seats are starting to move now, 20 sold at this end, I would expect that to at least double before Saturday taking the number past the magic 100 mark. FYI there has never been a 100+ game in an Aberdeen Casino, closest we got was 98 at the beginning of this year, so with any luck you guys will be making a bit of history in this town :)

What is the likelihood of spaces being open in the £75 game if i set off early enough as i am probably coming up on the Saturday?

TIA

The first statement was made when everyone was telling me the APAT games sell out in minutes online. I made it in good faith with the information I had been given at the time. I accept it doesn"t look too clever now.

If you PM me your name I will add you to the entry sheet held in our Cash Desk. The Seat will remain yours till 3pm Saturday when if you have not paid for it it will be given to an alternate.

I hope this helps and apologise for the earlier confusion
John

John

I was having a cheap shot at Ironside as that is always good for a laugh, I am sure you will agree that is always worth the effort. I am going to come up on Saturday and will play it if there is space left otherwise will have far too much to drink in your bar and probably donate enough in the sng"s to make my life even harder on the sunday  :D

looking forward to visiting your fine establishment and the first drink is on me. see you Saturday.

From player briefing;

"DRESS CODE

The International Casino operates a smart and casual Dress Code. To ensure that all  patrons enjoy a pleasant time in quality surroundings, entry to the premises is at the sole discretion of the reception staff"

Can someone please clarify this?  Whats the score with regards to jeans, trainers, shorts & hoodies?

no ripped jeans, but jeans are fine, trainers are fine, shorts are not allowed, hoodies are fine as long as the hoods are down when not at the table.

mair: carefull with parking on side streets (very few without double yellows) the wardens are right pains even with my blue badge i  get tickets all the time.

when i asked the jurys about there parking they said it was £15 at the station.
so i plan on going to the other multi storey between the G and the NASH
its not far from the hotel going to leave car there for weekend and hope the
G will stamp it when i leave (if they dont i am hoping the barrier is up
as it never used to be manned from 1 am till 6am and barrier remained up

94 runners and counting folks, I reckon we fill at 120 by Saturday 3pm

There"s never been a festival/championship event in Aberdeen over 100 runners, so this is pretty good stuff

Whoa Whoa Whoa, I am not having that. As your new to APAt Ill let it slide. The tradition is always to show up on the Friday, Get stinking Drunk and play the Friday tournamant as an added bonus, Saturday is generaly miserable as you are fairly comatoused. Now your going to show up all freash and lively for the tournament thus giving you an unfair advantage. Very poor etiquet Denham...Do try and do better next time....Welcome to the live show, hope you have a great time.

This winds me up no end! I was in Scotland near Braemar when the USA game was on, and loads of Scots cheered when the USA scored, what is that all about? I always support the home nations, in any sport I want them to do well, I even supported Scotland when Ally McLeod was in charge..."We"re on the march with Ally"s army...."
So all you guys in Scotland get behind England!!

A quick question. My friend has bought into this tournament but can"t make it as he is laid up in hospital at and won"t be out before the weekend. He has someone to take his place. Is it enough for the replacement to just come along or does he need to do something first? He will be arriving with me but I can PM the details to Chipaccrual if it helps? He is unable to get to his account while in hospital to do anything through Betfair.
