Title: Matchday 10 and the World Cup Final
Post by: Chipaccrual on May 25, 2010, 17:02:20 PM
Everyone,

I"m after an early headsup on this as I have just noticed that the last league matchday of this league will clash with the World Cup Final.

Irrelevant of which countries are involved (or APAT league clubs for that matter), what"s peoples views on this ?

Happy to leave it as it is, or consider an alternative date, but would much rather a decision was made early to give people plenty of warning.

If I move it, the only two options available would be a week early (Sunday 4th July) or a day later (Monday 12th July).

Post your thoughts and I"ll go with a majority.

Failing to get a majority, I may do a deal behind closed doors, which may not actually be what everyone wants, but will be what I think everyone wants, and therefore will be in the best interests of all the league players.   ;)

This (not for the world cup in which I have absolutely no interest - I am on holiday on 11th  ::) )

The Solent team, who are in the shake-up for Div 2, includes several players who also play in another league, which is holding its final on 18 July. This date was agreed after some influence was brought in order to avoid the APAT games, but it won"t be changed now. Other people have probably made arrangements too.

don"t change it.

Not everyone is a footy fan and people will only whine if its moved from its scheduled date anyway.

Having said that, you are being very pro active looking to change it with plenty of notice (the original date clearly being an oversight) so whatever you decide will be fine with me (though I can"t speak for team Manchester)

I don;t mind either ealier or later. I don"t mind too much if it stays the same, Can"t say i"ll be playing though. Prob stuck in the Pub watching the match. :)

My preference would be to move it. Later/earlier makes no difference to me. Sorry to say being a massive football fan and having no TV in the room where my computer lives I would have to forsake the last league game if it stays the same.

move it cos it clashes with the WCF, however I"m on holiday a week earlier, and still on holiday the day after... and therefore by default am also on holiday the day of the WCF, so actually I don"t really care.  :)

Week earlier would be better, as its then still on a sunday which we are used to matchdays being on a sunday.

A day later wouldn"t make any difference as I"d still be trying to sober up after we win.  :)

Not sure if this is the general view but personally I would only be affected by this IF England are in the final.

If that is the general view - can a decision be deferred to nearer the time?

Ok as im in vegas and already missing a game on the 27th i would prefer it not to be brought forward as i dont get back in the uk until the 6th. Would rather move it to the monday and at worst leave it where it is...

Peace

Thanks for all your comments.  The general opinion seems to be to move it a week earlier.

Matchday 10 will therefore take place on Sunday 4th July at 8pm.

That sux. You pay money all season then get games moved right at the end to when you cant play and when your on the verge of winning. So wrong....

You are only complaining from a personal point of view and not considering the majority here.

However, I agree that a change from the original date shouldn"t have been discussed and if it was then, only players with a chance of winning prizes should have been consulted.

never mind though, just run better....oh yes, you won a trip to vegas....Life"s hard

I"m sorry if you feel that way, but I left this thread up for over three weeks to give people a chance to offer an opinion.

Although a number of the leagues are going to be decided on the last matchday, this has been a league with 10 matchdays, and players have missed games for all sorts of reasons.

You are currently 15 points clear of the 5th place Walsall player, so with 2 matchdays to go, you may have to watch from Vegas and hope your team can secure top spot without you, and bag you a GUKPT CofC Seat in the process.

@Leigh

World Cup Final is a special situation and I think it"s the best decision to move it. Definitely not all of us are great football fans but it"s o.k. to take another date to play. I"ll agree every new date to play.

After sunday Germany or England will celebrate the reach the 1/4 final !   ;) I think 1:2, Germany is not good enough to beat England this time.

Yep, 2 leagues, 2 lots of prizes.

How generous are we.   ;D

Once this league concludes on Sunday, we will sort out the promotions and relegations and then go again for a whole new set of added value seats.
