I booked the "71 Rooms" hotel the other day. A view of the pitch for only £50! This was for Saturday night only, but I think it was £50 for as many nights as you want. You need to pay up front, otherwise it"s £70.
Seems quite reasonable, and it"s on the doorstep of the casino.

Thanks for that...I"ve updated the original post. As you say, very reasonable.

Hope they"re playing away that day...or some corporate numpty doesn"t upchuck in your room before they convert it.

Might have to miss this one !!!
Ashes tour is calling, Adelaide and Brisbane for the win !!
-
It"s so ridiculous that I won"t be able to make this. It"s my local casino, but with kid 2 due on the 24th I"m resigned to the fact that it"s not going to happen.
The casino is way better than it was when it was the Isle Of Capri (sigh). The poker room is now what was the VIP room, good tables if they"ve got the GUKPT ones out, generally better run etc. Still struggles to get big fields in the week, but with the Broadway, DTD and a few others so close it"s never going to be easy. It"ll be a good event. Hope we go there in S5 so I can actually make it...
-
I"m pretty sure they"re away that day. That"s probably why it"s only £50 a night.

Although tempted by the 71 Rooms place, I decided on the Holiday Inn Coventry M6/J2 (http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/cvthr/hoteldetail) at Hinckley Road, COVENTRY CV2 2HP instead.
Distance: Approx: 5 miles
Rates: c.£60 inc Breakfast(Advance non-refundable)
Parking: Free
If I get spannered and have to cab back to the hotel...so be it! ;D

Booked, thanks :)

Trust me when i say the standard hotel rooms look nothing like the apartment above.
The location is first rate for the casino obviously, but the double rooms are fold down beds and are tired
but functional. If you happen to have had a sloppy security guard on that day the door onto the pitch
may be open and you can enjoy a quick beer sat in the stands or pretend to be a player and do your morning
workout of laps round the pitch in the morning.
The only other walkable hotel is the Novotel.
Thanks but that was the point of my post...we"ve already warned that the "standard" rooms are boxes during the day.
If one wants to pay the £20 extra to bet the "Apartment" then I would hope that they are better standard.
The hotels in the centre of town would be more convenient for the station but then you"d still have to shell out for taxis. I doubt if many of them have free parking.
Chacun a son gout as my olde French teacher used to say...I like chain hotels...you know what you"re gonna get and you get points too.

True enough although when you look at the pics you see £50 above and could be misled and find yourself in a pitch side box. Not that the pitch side boxes are that small. Just tired with fold up beds.
BTW the Ibis in the city centre always had free parking. As did the (gulp) F1 hotel next door.

Although its a bit further away, the Ibis Coventry South is currently available at £30 per night

Hope to come down to Coventry, could you tell me if this casino is a part of any group. My wife is coming down with me, and she has no passport or driving license. What documents would she need to be able to go in to the casino, or can i sign her in as a guest?
cheers

Hi guys, I want to play the £25 lowball tourny, will I be OK just showing up on the day, or do I need to reg. Online?

Firstly, the Specialist Game will be Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo and not Lowball
You will certainly be able to turn up on Sunday to play the Specialist Tourney but seats will go on sale AT THE VENUE ONLY on Saturday afternoon and I expect it to fill up quickly.

Myself and The Stockton Rock are booked into one of the apartments at the Ricoh :)

The G Casino is part of the Grosvenor group. I don"t think you can sign in a guest...but I could be wrong.
Their website says
*Valid forms of ID are photo Driving Licence, Passport or Debit or Credit card. If you bring along a Debit or Credit card we must be able to validate the address to which the cards are registered. We can do this electronically or by a supporting document, e.g., Utility bill.
She can always pre-register via their website (http://www.gcasino.co.uk/coventry/register.php) but I think they still need to confirm the details (as above) on arrival.
-
I"ve just booked a room at the Ricoh. Was showing as none available online for Sat 27th Nov, but they had 3 rooms left when I telephoned. Now down to 2!

Booked into the Brittannia so it will be the usual, checkin/dump bag at 2pm and mad dash to casino to hopefully get there before the first hand ::)
-
Suzanne, you should do what I usually do on such occasions and take your bag to the casino leave it at the desk, and just check in whenever you get to the hotel later that night. It is better than the mad dash
-
A couple of points that may help if you have not been there before and are going by car.
Obv follow signs for Ricoh Stadium. When you get close it"s still on the "Brown" sign posts as "Isle of Capri Casino". (That"s what it was called before G Casino took it over)
You should head towards Car Park A though the casino has it"s own small car park on the right as you drive in.
Take a ticket on the way into the car park (It says you have to pay) but the casino validates it for you on your way out.
