This weekend bring"s APAT's live series back to UK Shores. Just. Aberdeen. Where men are men and women know Ironside.
Starting on Saturday 19th at 3pm we"ll be bringing you a Live update of the Scottish Amateur Poker Championship and the third leg of the APAT Professional League on Sunday 20th from The International Casino.
Alongside this coverage we will once again be bringing you a live stream of featured action and the final table via APAT.TV
I will be commentating, and I intend to put Clive Tyldesley to shame. Leigh will be commentating, and he"ll make Jonathan Pearce look like a trappist Monk.
It"s traditional I do a competition at this point. As I don"t have a player list yet with about 40 seats having been sold by the venue I am left with only one option.
Please answer the following question. The closest to the correct answer will win entry to a Specialist Series event at a future APAT weekend courtesy of me.
In what position will Ironside finish?
Note: 120 runner capacity.
Tie-break Question, in the event of multiple correct answers:
Where will Scotland finish in Group H of the 2010 World Cup?
How many Scots will be on the final table? (nearest to correct answer wins)

Good luck all who"s playing.
Wish I was going.. gutted.. girlfriends birthday > poker. Fail >:(
does anyone know whats apat t.v?
Its a live stream from the venue during the day which shows such highlights as people celebrating and mini fist pumping a straight and then being told that someone has a higher straight and indeed they"ve been knocked out and they should go and find the bar and remember a 6 high straight is better than a 5 high. Fail :(
Good luck all today especially (quick scan of list) Don, Paul, Paulie, Ger, Gregg, Geo, Mary, Neil (can"t see his name but if he is making his comeback fingers crossed for you mate) and Stockton"s own Chris Peers. Run well all. Enjoy all that Aberdeen has to offer.

68th 6 scots on f/t then.

I just wanted to let you know that henceforth on these updates, no thread will be complete without a picture of an Orange boat. Aberdeen Harbour is literally across the road from the Casino. The casino itself is an imposing Granite building, quite Art Deco in aspect and decor.
The staff could not do more to help and he we are, the players happily playing away to the accompaniment of the World Cup in the background and the soothing sound of chips being riffled echoing across the felt.
Aberdeen itself is in Scotland. Very in Scotland. I went to the shop to buy a few things this morning and I literally could not understand the lady behind the counter. I was sure she was Norwegian. However it appeared not, when the man in the queue behind me assured me she wasn"t.
This all possibly explains why I received only £3 change from a £20 note for a bottle of Lucozade , a Cheese sandwich and a copy of the Financial Times
Hard times for the English dear reader, hard times

Ironside news
He lost half his stack calling a raise with A-9, and seeing a board of 9-K-3, calling a c-bet, and seeing an Ace on the turn. His short-stacked opponent had A-K
He then got that stack back with Q-Q v 6-6 on a K-Q-6 flop, as you would!
He is now on 11,000
-
Is Neil out already?
-
A quick run round the "regulars"
Steve Roderick 9,000
James Eccles 8,000
Paul McGuinness 2,500
Me "Oh, you must have lost a big pot? What happened?"
Him "No, I am just playing s%%%"
Darren Shallis 7,000
Gerard Smyth 12,000
Carl Lybert 13,000
Frank Bailie 12,000
Don Roberts 15,000
John murray 12,000
-
Is Neil out already?
Yes, on the feature table. He ran J-J into K-K having lost a good part of his stack before that
-
Into Level 3.
127 runners was the final tally, which I am delighted with.
-
Remember, requests for chip counts welcome
Fire away.
Actual hand reporting will be easier later when we lose a few tables, currently the 12 tables are split over three rooms.
At the very least, I"ll be a bit fitter come Monday.
-
Oh, and Leigh is currently on the live feed. Anything you need to know from him, ask on here too.

Big blind bets, Paul shoves and James Edwards calls with Ac 9c

McGuinness doubles up and some.

How is master ironside doing?

How is the duke getting on?
Has he rebought yet?

Darren Shallis and Carl Lybert are sitting side by side on 7,000 or so each
Their combined expression resembles a particularly constipated bulldog chewing on a particularly agitated wasp, whilst sitting on a bed of nails.

Ironside 8,000. It must be said that he is enjoying the social craic so much I can"t see him going too deep in this.
The Duke 7,000. It must be said that he is enjoying the social craic so much I can"t see him going too deep in this.

Amanda Ewings has 30,000. This is the result of flush against Flush to knock out John Lynch
"Are you local?" I asked
She shot me a look of disdain, and her top lip curled
"No I am not, I am from Dundee" she said
"Close to here then" I replied, busily digging a deeper hole
"No, we have more in common with Scandinavians than anyone from Aberdeen" she told me, banging the table so hard her chip stack fell over.
So, there you go, when in Dundee and you want a ruck, just mention Aberdeen, stand back and watch.

Ironside deliberates ... for a while ... and claims to hav folded jacks on a T97 all club flop. Having raised pre, he cbets 1500 only to be raised by button (to 3600). Iron, without the J of clubs, folds. Stack is now 8700.

We"re back
Maylis interview with Ironside on the stream imminent
-
First missed buffet break in 37 APATs for me. Standards are slipping
-
We think Bolton was the best buffet. Also agree its best to eat away from the table.
-
85 left
blinds 150-300/25
average stack 14,900
off for a scoot around to watch the world cup to get some stories
-
Don Roberts had AK spades all in
called by AK hearts
against 8-9 which calls both all-ins!
8 on the flop, and 8-9 wins a 30,000 pot to knock both the big slicks out
-
any chance of counts for Frankie Bailie and John Murray please. Hello from sunny Ireland, wish I was there with you guys this weekend and keep up the excellent work.
-
Frank Bailie chip count please
-
Two local players at the ehad of affairs are William Hanratty 30,000 and Deborah Masson 40,000
Carl Lybert has had his table broken and he is now on Table Ironside
I report the exchange below verbatim as Carl arrived at the table
Ironside "Wahey, easy chips!
Carl "Well at least I have some now"
Ironside "Even a donkey finds the nuts sometimes"
Carl "It"s monkey"
Ironside "Is it?"
-
John Murray 19,000
Frank Bailie 15,000
The Duke 6 Coronas
-
John Murray 19,000
Frank Bailie 15,000
The Duke 6 Coronas
only 6?! He"s failing a bit, but don"t tell him I said that! Just finished telling him to focus and get to day 2...lol
-
thanks Dawn
-
I"v just been invited to a "bog standard" £1/£2 cash game. Whilst railing Darren Shallis, a cash game pot attracts my attention ...
Pre-flop, there"s £260 in the middle. Paul McGuinness only has £18 invested and folds AK. Long story short, the pot ends up £580 ... a bit rich for me.
SnGs starting soon hopefully.

Rich, as we have a notable lack in music compared to previous venues, I propose that you match each person that you report/interview to a style of music. You can go as far as to match them to particular tracks, but that is up to you.
Should keep you partially amused for a short while.

Doing a great job Leigh
-
Approaching a short break with 50 left
We are doing full chip counts in that break, helped because the Casino has been recording every exit and seat move. Sweet.
So, stick around as we play down towards the money, and I find a big hole to swallow me up while I consider events elsewhere lol
-
John Murray double up
2-2 on a As-10s-2 flop against Dean Hendry with 4s-5s
John 28,000

Neil McClory chip count 30,000

Break
47 left
Ironside goes past
"tell all those people who had me to go out early, I am still in"
his voice rises an octave from the start to the end of the sentence, betraying that frankly his surprise mirrors yours.
-
We are signing off for the night. Will catch up tomorrow. Good luck to everyone who is still in. Great job as usual to Leigh and Rich.

Now then..about that Duke exit. Who do I hunt down for running a marathon against him?! Hell...everyone knows he doesn"t run. nvm runner runner...sigh. UL Ger.
-
We"re sorting the live feed as we speak. No wifi, so we are reliant on 3G. :-[
-
can i get a wee update on tim boyle and greg davidson pleasee?
-
FML Just commentated for 10 minutes until was told the feed was down
Saw a big hand develop
Debbie Masson raised UTG, Paul Davis called on the buttpn
flop A-10-3 Bet and call
turn J check from Masson, bet from David, dwell call from Masson
river 10, check Masson, all in Davis
Masson makes an agonised call all in with A-Q
Davis shows A-J
I am pleased to say I named both hands, honest!
-
Tim Boyle still chip leader 80,000
Did you see Ironside"s double up through Rod Copeland?
-

Nope. Who said the video guys were allowed food ffs?!

OUT OUT
Carl Lybert 8h 9h
John Murray Ts Td
Jack Prime Ac Ad
Ace on the flop, and Jack knocks our John and Carl.
-
would be nice if it was working lol
I will paint you a picture instead
Four tables remain, one in the main room and three in the adjunct where the cameras are
The atmosphere is rowdier as the night wears on.
For example Paul McGuinness (Welsh), the tank (Scottish) and the Duke (Irish) have just come up to me and pointed and screamed
"you are English, hahaha" at me
When I replied
"actually, I am half Welsh on my mother"s side" two collapsed laughing whilst the third uttered gibberish in my direction.
Marvellous
On the feature table Tom Boyle is the tournament chip leader. Rod Paradise and Ironside battle alongside him
Generally the locals are faring better than the English infidel interlopers
John Murray and Carl Lybert both just out. Sigh
Ooops, here comes the tank again
"I am just off for a spin on the roulette, please don"t tell my stakers"
The man has a sense of humour, it must be said
Fifteen hours into my "shift" I am losing the will to live.
This is your live feed substitute, live from The International, Aberdeen

Has Duke won any of those STTs to the pro event?

Duke"s giving up with poker and becoming a professional Blackjack player.
John Murray has just binked a seat for tomorrow with 52 versus KK. A king on the flop, and he still manages to river the straight.
A few seats have been won, but I think tomorrows Pro game may be great value.

I"m amazed no one has mentioned the food at the dinner break. All good hearty stuff, but very brown and yellow. A Scottish option of corned beek, onion and potato (forgotten the name), bits of sausage in a brown sauce, pasta (the yellow bit) with mince meat (very brown), and a slightly lighter option in macaroni cheese (very yellow). No green in sight, although all very tasty. What do they say about Scotland and health stats???
Just read through the live feed in the hotel. Excellent stuff! Looking forward to the Pro event!

Yes, go the lighter haired ones!....
Requesting an entertaining live feed this afternoon, lots of (incredibly tedious) work to do and need something informative and amusing to get through it, not that the live feeds aren"t always that, but, oh, you know what I mean.
Rich, you failed miserable with your challenge yesterday, I"m disappointed.

Good afternoon and welcome back to Aberdeen!
We"re all well rested and raring to go.
For some unknown reason I woke from my slumbers at 7am. I was quickly up, into the hotel Gym and then the Swimming Pool (**) before breakfasting heartily (***). By 10am I had completed a tour of Pittordrie, Aberdeen FC"s ground taking 187 photos including, in what will be a new section in my stadia ringbinder, 1937 turnstiles manufactured in Hungary.
After that I went for a perambulation across the harbour in which they are currently three vessels. Two are from Norway, and one is from Latvia. I was just perusing the scene when a young Mum and her son, perhaps six years old, stood nearby.
All was quiet except for the sound of squawking gulls (do gulls squawk?) and the wind whistling through the small gaps between the boats.
Then the little voice piped up
"Mum" he said, pointing at me, "is that man a fisherman?"
The Mum looked at me, suppressed a giggle and replied
"I don"t think so Alex"
"Oh" said the young lad "Just checking, I knew he could be because he doesn"t have a beard and a white hat"
And with that, they walked off.
Sometimes I just realise that in my life there is no need for hallucinogenic drugs, really there isn"t
Anyway from there I returned to the hotel, avoided an Ironside phone call twice but not on the third occasion, had some lunch and ambled down to the casio where the staff are currently setting up and we"ll be live on the TV feed and the update from 3pm. I"m the one who Whispers.
Back soon.

Thanks very much for your support Suz and Phil. Perhaps it will be third time lucky this season.
Very well played James and have a great time at the Gukpt was great to get to know you a bit better and thoroughly enjoyed the heads up and associated banter, I think the turning point was when we both hit the flush, that was the beginning of the end for me.
As usual thanks to everyone at Apat for all their hard work and to John and his staff at the International for hosting such a great and well run event at such short notice.

Another great weekend but, to be honest, I"ve come to expect no less from the APAT gang.
Another bronze too eh? The triumph of origami over poker! Thanks for all the good wishes along the way guys & gals. It was lovely to catch up with Ger, Carl, Darren, Paul, Iron, James, Martyn, Steve... you get the idea - all the APAT & Blonde regulars! Also good to meet ForthThistle for the first time.
Well done to Scott. I think he and Kris were the best players at the FT, so well-deserved. Well done also to Kevin, the other final-tablers and cashers. To those who missed out - keep going cos if I can do well there"s hope for anyone. Great to see James take the win in the pro league too.
Many thanks to Leigh, Tighty & Des (in dementia absentia). Also the lovely Maylis (sorry for the gory details in the pre-day 2 interview!), James and The Cross-fade King, Martyn! The International and its staff were great, especially the charming John Taylor. No reason to look anywhere else for season 5.
Roll on DTD!

Well played on the weekend Jack.
Another great result for yourself, and although I know you wouldn"t want to big yourself up, I thought I would post a link anwyay. ;D

Great post Jack, 100% agree. See ya all at DTD.

Well played on the weekend Jack.
Another great result for yourself, and although I know you wouldn"t want to big yourself up, I thought I would post a link anwyay. ;D

I agree with you there Leigh very well played Jack and I look forward to seeing you represent England at Dusk Till Dawn in the Team Championship, as I beleive it is now virtually immpossible for two English players to overtake you in the rankings before then. Best of luck. ;)

Thanks to all who made the journey to the Nash over the weekend and set an attendance record in this town; excellent game, excellent people. I also need to thank Janice Fraser at Soul Casino who kindly loaned us some tables. A special mention in dispatches needs to go to TD Neil Munro who I thought ran an excellent tournament. Leigh and Richard were superb, there guidance was invaluable, APAT are blessed to have these two dedicated individuals.
Well done to our winners and good luck in the GUKPT.
I am looking into attending an APAT event later in the year and hope to see you all again then.
be lucky
John

Nice of you to say John & Don but I really don"t think I"m the man for this even if I was lucky enough to bink any automatic seat. England needs winners plus I can"t play heads up. I can"t even get to heads up ffs!
Wouldn"t say no to a place on the APAT team at the UK team championships at Bolton though (http://blondepoker.com/forum/Smileys/default/whistle.gif) Sounds much more to my liking!

Good weekend at Aberdeen, i never really expected to see Alex Ferguson there. His namesake was sat to my left in the M.E. though. Him and his mates were very good company. Also nice to meet the Tank, and Ironside at last :-)
