Title: APAT S. European Championship [SPAIN] - Discussion
Post by: pokernuts07 on July 07, 2010, 08:48:10 AM
I expect this has already been asked but I can"t seem to find a thread on it.

Do we know yet where the above will be held in Spain?  I know it"s early but wouldn"t mind starting to get something sorted.......clearance, and all that  ;D

I know (at least I think I do) and anyone who does a little googling of Betfair, EPT or European Poker could get a reasonable idea. I did and asked someone in a position to know who confirmed(ish) my guess.

However, I am pretty sure that nothing is set in concrete as yet and from previous experience I doubt that (forgive me APAT) that the venue has been confirmed/booked yet. We are several months away and negotiations with sponsors, casinos etc. take time and frequently encounter bumps in the road, often at the last second.

For that reason, I don"t think it"s worth putting the location out until APAT want it out there.

As for clearance, the date is set, even if the location/venue isn"t cast iron. Just tell (I mean beg for permission) the significant other that you"ll be in Spain / Timbuktu / abroad that weekend....Jobs a good"un.

Of course, I could (and often am) wildly out and APAT will confirm the location in the next few minutes just to make me look even more like an idiot.  :"(

Thanks for the reply.

I will keep an eye out for any updates.  Ryanair"s £9 flights end this Thursday which was another reason Spain was in mind.  I"m sure other promos will run before then though.

As for clearance......I"m sure she will be fine, she"s not that bad really!  ;)

I am one who likes to plan ahead. Therefore I have taken a leap of faith and booked Spain for the wee man and myself. I understand a fish called squirrel has also booked these flights. So if it doesn't come off we are having a weekend in Barcelona.  :o

Flight details
£86 for the two of us.......

12:20
Liverpool to Barcelona (Terminal 2)
Dep 07 January 2011 12:20
Arr 07 January 2011 15:35

20:35

Dep 10 January 2011 20:35
Arr 10 January 2011 22:10

I will of course expect Paulie to get to work on the hotels  ;D

** PLEASE NOTE THIS LOCATION IS NOT CONFIRMED AS YET AND MAY NOT BE FOR SOME TIME.**
**ANY BOOKINGS MADE BEFORE SUCH CONFIRMATION IS GIVEN ARE ENTIRELY AT YOUR RISK**

Ger...I have some thoughts on hotels but, as you can imagine, I haven"t posted anything until APAT confirm the location.

One thing I would say about your flights is that the timings will probably allow you enough time to travel inside Spain to another city and so still play.

Worth bearing in mind...

[MOD THINKING]

I don"t want to confuse anybody yet, so I"m going to merge this with the Discussion thread for now. When we have something positive to report, I"ll start a proper Travel Tips thread.

Hello, getting close. Give me a few days to conclude a bi-lingual email stream!

Flying into Barceona or Girona is likely to be the best bet, with car hire to venue...if you want to make preliminary plans

Due to it being a Spanish National Holiday weekend, we"ve decide to move the event back a week, to the 15th-16th January

Whilst we would hope to take a number of UK players across, the proposed venue indicated that Spanish players would be highly unlikey to play an event on the suggested weekend, and we"ll need them to make it a successful event

Hotels in the area, on checking, were already fully booked too

We hope to announce the venue in the early part of next week, and it would involve flying into Girona or Barcelona

Always a risk of booking early, no problem.

Plan A. Change the flights, costs more to change than to rebook. You figure that one
Plan B. Utilise the otbound flight, book a new return one and stay in Spain for a week.

Plan B. Is looking favourite

Turns out first weekend of the year in Spain is unsuitable, once I looked into it, sorry.
