Big thanks to Betfair for the added value during the whole of the season and particularly the WSOPE freeroll.

Best of luck to all today, especially, the Smyths, Jeldon Fernandes, Phil Tompkinson,Mark Wilding, Maggie Holt & me.

Many thanks to All the Apat people who have worked so hard over the last five days. I just can"t wait for today"s instalment of Tighty meets Emmerdale.

One final thing, will the alternates be added to the normal 10% to make extra places,as is normally the case, or will they be included in the total prize pool, only this will make a big difference to a lot of strategies. if anyone knows please post.

according to what was posted about the prize pool in the player brief it said that any alternate adds an extra place added to be paid 100 pound. therefore 11 alternates - so position 41- 51 get 100 pound each.
good luck with the strategising ;D

Good luck to all the players in both events today. I will be cheering on Gary Phillips in the main event.

Just want to thank the APAT Team for having me for last 4days. It"s been excellent. Good fun, alot of laughs, but most importantly alot of hard work being done by them (Leigh, Rich(or is it Tiny??), Des, Maylis and camera crew and added support from Amanda and Ian). Thank you for letting me be apart of it and help you (as much as I could). I"m sorry I"m not there for final day. Des knows how disapponted I am that I can"t be there. So GL to the remaining players and the Team!! Last day guys! Then over!

A fantastic festival so far and although I would prefer to be there I am very much looking forward to railing from home today.

Best wishes to the following players:

Wayne Parker - Holds many many APAT medals but none live. I"ve railed him at many local FT"s live and know he can do this. Hope you TID mate.

Derek Liddle - either a complete luckbox or thinks at a level beyond mortal man.

Marcin Rejmak - Ninja short stack play at level 1 when down to 1200chips

Gordon Mcarthur - the best player never to have won an APAT (he loves me saying that - lol)

Ger Smith x 2 - one plays well the other sometimes runs good. which will prevail?

Chris Filus - great bloke, going for the FT double at DTD APATs

Gareth Cash - I like his game, and hes Irish which is the next best thing to being Scottish  ;D

Back in my chair in London ... no free massage ... no cards ... no Tighty doing "the whispering Ted Lowe" in my ear ... great commentary ... very surreal ...

Great effort from the APAT team - very smoothly run.

Good luck to all - but in particular to

Gareth Derbyshire - flying the flag for our home game.
Gareth Cash - whose raising arm must be tired - also very precise chip staking
Mitchel Cooper - flying the flag for Devon
Jeldon F - who seemed nicely control of table 34

Looking forward to updates.

Louis

Jon Ellis makes a small raise from the SB, and Richard Sheils calls.

On a flop of 4 8 6, the chips go in.  Jon Ellis has been playing pocket kings, his opponent has flopped a straight with 7d 5s.

Jon exits

Ah very unlucky Jon wp mate.

GL Gordon, Ger Snr, Jnr, Phil and gooo Derek.  Cmon the Scot"s

Just for posterity, I didn"t donk my chips off which 10-3, I"d been felted and was all in blind. The hand that really did for me was a race; I had 4-4 my welsh friend with hairy ears had A-5 of clubs. Both pretty short stacked I flipped a pound coin to determine whether I should shove it in. Heads for the shove and heads it came. Two aces on the board I think. I"ve since spent said pound coin. It was a Scottish one.

playing a £30 at DMD with Steve at the table after exiting the Main event on day 1a... flat calling any bets and hitting flops. Steve Decidied to try "the polish way" and after initially celebrating  seeing a cheap flop... created the english-polish hybrid by shoving top pair into a straight on the flop...

It will take more than hypnosis.....

I never realized how much hard work goes into commentating and updating the forum at an APAT event.

These guys never stop.  They are here to set up hours before the tournaments commence, and are still here when most players have gone home to bed.  Getting an average of 4 hours sleep  (if they are lucky).

Had I have realized how much was involved and how tiring it would be, I may not have been daft enough to offer my help.....lol

Great job guys - you know who you are.

Phil Tompkinson raise to 40k

Jeldon Fernandes re-raises to 120k

Gareth Cash goes allin for 300k.

Phil has to call, Jeldon dwells for a while and lets it go.

Phil has A6, Gareth has pocket aces.

Phil is out, and Gareth Cash now has just over 500k.

In commentary, Jeldon told Tighty his hand, which was AK.

No help on board and we are down to eight players.

Ritesh finishes in 9th place.

BIG HAND ALERT

William De-vanney raises to 110k, Mark Lassman goes allin for 260k, Jeldon Fernandes shoves allin for 383k.

Action back on William, he dwells for a rather long time, and eventually makes the call.

William has QQ

Mark has AQ

Jeldon has KK

Flop comes 9 A 9

Turn 2

River 7

Which means Mark trebles up to 780k, Jeldon is down to 250k, and William is now one the shortest stack.

Berney Frankfort is out in 8th place. Shoving with Q2 from the button, he gets called by chipleader Ben Young in the big blind who has A5.

No help on the board, and our Dutch friend finishes in 8th place for £1200.

It really is THE most eccentric payout structure and I"m never ever going to understand it.

Personally I feel that people play these events primarily for the ME structure and also for the social interaction and general bonhomie and all this despite the payout structure. There is generally a seat into something or other added so the tourneys will always be played out to a finish.

I love the events but I just don"t get why 9th pays the same as 4th.

Personally I feel that people play these events primarily for the ME structure and also for the social interaction and general bonhomie and all this despite the payout structure. There is generally a seat into something or other added so the tourneys will always be played out to a finish.

I love the events but I just don"t get why 9th pays the same as 4th.

It"s about the concept of gold, silver and bronze medals for the top three and then completely flat beyond that to encourage people to head for the top three rather than ladder up a place or two...witness this final table

Steve Roderick raise from mp, Jeldon Fernandes goes allin for his 210k stack from the small blind, Steve is really committed to the pot and makes the call.

Jeldon has 44
Steve has KT

The flop comes K x T, Turn T, River x, whiich means we lose Jeldon Fernandes in 6th place, collecting £1200.

Because it"s not about the money...the structure is designed to promote play at the tables and so is heavily weighted towards the later finishers.

Once the pressure is off about how much you"re gonna get (at the FT) then the play gets so much better when you"re playing for the win.

Simples.

Not sure whether commenting on a player"s tells whilst people are still in the hand is the best behaviour at the table.  Or screaming he has no hand this is a button steal.  Bit strange from tournament commentators!

Hi Mr Haircut. Don"t think the players can hear. Don"t take the feed too seriously either, I think its a great double act.

Almost as good as my double act with my psyche.

I am afraid I have to disagree here.

One"s play at the FT is primarily dictated by the size of one"s chipstack and it"s relation to the blinds and antes.

No problem, I don"t mind a debate at all

Of course just because something is unique, or innovative (or something you don"t understand lol) doesn"t mean it is necessarily a bad thing George.

I also don"t mind being known (APAT, not personally) for adopting new concepts either.

Blind on Blind action.

Steve Roderick raise to 110k from the small blind and Wayne Parker declares allin from the big blind.

Steve counts chips for a bit, then calls.

Steve 66

Wayne AQ

Board comes K43 9 9

So, Steve gets a huge double up to nearly 1.3m, and Wayne is left very short at 240k.

Yeh ok so if we disagree we should just leave? I seem to remember there was no 150/300 or running antes when APAT started. Shoudl those who lobbied for it just ahve left

APAT has evolved season on season and I think the payout structure should be the next thing that"s looked at as part of it"s evolution

Gareth has A T

Tikay talking about that odd raise, 2.5 bigs..   I notice a lot of people doing that these days, and, they seem to be doing it and folding to a reraise...  ie.. raising avg cards quite regularly, taking posn raises, and the ability to not over comit themselves..

With stacks so shallow making it 100k is much better than making it 120k or more. People shouldn"t be worried about being priced in. People aren"t deep enough to play post flop

Even 100k is way too big imo, min raising ftw

Wouldn"t min raise live. Would make it like 90-95k

Ben Young is a corking player isnt he?

Might not win, but one to watch for sure.

I was on Ben"s right first table on day 1a, saw he go down to 2900 chips at level 3 and was worried he would miss his free massage if he went out too early.  Our table broke and he lost his massage rights, guess he did alright in the end though :)

Just got back. Pleased to make 10th, started with the chip lead but couldn"t make it stick. Think I used up a lot of my run good on day 1a.

Like to say thanks to the APAT clan and the staff at DTD for a great weekend. The Tournaments were really organised and well-run, and I met a lot of great people over the weekend.

I"d love to see Ben Young TID, great player and good bloke too.

Cheers,

Steve Roderick raises to 135k, Wayne Parker declares allin on the button, Mark dwells in small blind, but eventually folds, so does Ben.

Steve snap calls the allin.

Steve KJ
Wayne 77

Board comes 4 T T  7  Q

Wayne Parker gets a double up to nearly 900k

i) move the camera position to the left, or

ii) strap Mark into his chair - he"s up and down in front of the camera like a jack-the-box.

Mark Lassman raises to 180k, Ben Young goes allin.

Mark makes the call.

Ben has KT
Mark has AJ

Board runs 3 6 8   T   7

And we lose Mark Lassman in 4th place, collecting £1200.

How much to raise preflop?

100k is perfect on this table [Refering to when the blinds were 20/40]

Mark will call loosely,[50%fold,40%call,10%raise] but i would still raise his bb as 90% of the time a C.Bet will get him off the flop and position will be key against him.

Wayne and steve are fairly tight and will play back at you but you will make more from the blinds than your loosing from any re raises [Generally]

100k is perfect because any table in any era with any style, you have to study the table and see what bets get through and what gets called and use it to dictate play.also with a 100k raise  you are risking a the minimum possible but still putting pressure on your opponents and asking them to commit a 6/7th of there stacks in most cases.

Very good commentary

I apologize in advance for my grammer and if i got any names wrong.

Well done to all three of you guys. I played with all of you at some stage in the tournament, and you were all quite tough! Everytime I reraised Steve he would shove in on me and I would sigh and fold. He seems to raise a lot but always have the goods when someone puts the pressure on.

And Ben of course is immense. I"m glad he won because I feel like it was our massive hand (where I flopped a boat and he flopped quads on J99 8 7 and we got it in on the river) that gave him the chip lead and propelled him to the top. Very well played though, all of you.

Not sure why I am still up but I am so here goes.

A bad few days for me from a poker perspective but that"s all down to my own poor play and James Edward"s luck....

But a great few days in general, with so many people to credit, APAT fantastic, DTD fantastic, Dealers fantastic, Staff fantastic, Massuers fantastic (ty betfair).

Special mentions to Tighty, Leigh & Des - the day I discovered APAT must go down as one of the best discoveries I"ve ever made.

I also met so many people, some of whom are already friends, but a lot I was meeting for the first time in many cases have "met" online so if I forget to mention anyone I apologise

Fistly the usual suspects: My roommates Phil (another deep run, well played sir) and Chris. Then Ian (great result mate), Don L, Don R, Big Ger, Dawn, Steve (good for morale), Brian (fishy balls??  ;D), Stuart, John (nice triple barrel  ;)), Paul, Rudders (river rat) James, Mary & Joe

Then it was great to meet so many online teammates and adversaries in the flesh for the first time; Luton Teammates Warren, Richard, SuzyP (sorry about the 3-betting!!), Carl, Alan & Stuart also some players I have "known" or known of for some time but not got to meet before including Jack, Suzanne, Dan, Dylan, Little Ger, Dave, SharpLea & Julie -probably forgotten a few but I can blame the alcohol.

Congratulations also to all of the winners and medalists, final tablers etc.

Note 1 to self - You live 1 hour from DTD. Must visit more often
Note 2 to self - Do not drink so much
Note 3 to self - If Note 2 is ignored do not play cash

APAT ftw

APAT ftw

Consign!!!  Couldnt of put it better myself  ;D

Well done APAT (and all the other people involved) for another very enjoyable weekend.

Big thumbs up to DTD for a great card room with nice, friendly and competent dealers.

Thanks to Betfair for their sponsorship.

It was only my second APAT event, the last one being Luton 2009 so was pleasantly surprized to be remembered by John Murray, even if it was as "Mr Unlucky"...... Athough he may have a different name for me after hitting a 6 on the river to knock him out!!!!!!  :-\

Enjoyed sitting next to Jeldon Fernandes for most of the Sunday, nice guy even if i did want to hog the TV time!! Congratulations on your high finishing. :P

Right, time to prepare for Luton.... Hopefully!!!!

Colin.

A truely well run event at a fantastic venue. thanks to Betfair, all at APAT and DTD for making it so enjoyable for us all.

This.

They said exactly the same to me as you continued to amass chips. Well played

As always, a big thanks to the APAT team for a fantastic tournament. I would also like to thank DTD - the managment and especially the dealers (world class). Betfair for all the sponsership and not to forget the APATers that make this event something to remember.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the final tablist especially the top 3 finishers. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to play Ben Young prior to the final table.

I would also like to thank to a few apat members that made this a memorable event for me.

John Murray - for making it very lively on my table and telling everyone I"m a luckbox (thanks John)
Don Roberts & Darren Shallis - for your support (apologies if I missed anyone who was railing me)
Colin McCarthy & Stu Pillinger - top quality lads

p.s Tikay my wife accepts your apology for first refering me as the dealer on the final table and secondly re naming me as Yeldon. She said its a good thing this wasn"t being pushed out on national TV.

Another good weekend at APAT and DTD. Thanks for the support and messages on the forum and for the people at DTD. enjoyed playing with a lot of the players, Joe, Jeldon, Gareth Cash and Ger Smyth Jnr were all very good players who got a bit unlucky. I m very pleased with the result obviously although I think I could have played the final table better.

Well done Ben, you played great and deserved to win Wayne also played well for bronze as did most of the final table. Mark Lassman just missed out on the meals but can still be happy with his performance over the two days at all stages of the tournament.

DTD is of course a great venue, The staff the dealers, Simon Trumper and Rob the owner all impressed me a lot. Nice to see Tikay and Des at an APAT of course with Tikay and Simon doing the final table coverage. Also most importantly Leigh and Richard without who APAT simply would not run.

Now I just need to work on going one better in Dublin. Hopefully will not have to contend with playing against Ben there :-)

Congratulations Ben!!!

I moved to his table about 2000 hrs on Day One, having been comfortably double the average stack all day. BOOM - I ran into this guy and another Cardiff lad (Griffiths???)

Anyway, longstory short, they completely owned the me (and the rest of the table!!!). I actually pinpointed a hand with Ben as being the start of my downfall. I"d raised UTG with 7"s and he shoved all in from the SB. After a while I had to pass and he took about 8k of my 32k stack....he showed a 3!!!!!!!!!

It was quite apparent that he has got some seriously good game throughout that evening - re-raising, 3 betting, squeezing...it was all on show. IMO a very worthy winner!!!!

What a great five days.  It"s been an absolute rollercoaster ride, and although I was there from start to finish (Well nearly, thanks Tighty  ;) ), it"s only when you properly catch up on the forum, that you absorb everything that went on.

There"s a number of big thank you"s that really should be made, so I"ll do those first.

Dusk Till Dawn

To Nick for all his hard work behind the scenes (Hopefully none of the players will have even noticed anything going on, which is a sign of how hard Nick and his team worked).

To Simon for supporting the five days from the floor and some expert commentary throughout the five days.

To Rob Yong for allowing APAT back to his club and for an excellent final table commentary session.

Darren and Kevin, who I think TD"d most, if not all of the APAT events over the five days.

To Phil and Linda at the cash desk, who"s patience we tested on numerous occasions with some last minute seat exchanges.

To all the bar staff, valets and kitchen staff, who looked after us superbly.

And finally, to all of the dealers.  Simply the best, and I know that every one of the players will have appreciated the difference it makes to have such quality dealers.

APAT

James, Mayliss and Phil who keep APAT TV running over the events.  They battle against all sorts of technical difficulties, but always do so in a professional manner.

Our additions to the updating team over the five days.  Sian, Amanda and Ian, without you being able to answer so many of the chipcount queries etc, the content would never have been so good.

To Adam, Andrew T and James, excellent commentary.

To anyone who came over to give us additional bits of information (I exclude anyone who came over to give us a bad beat story  ;D ), it all adds to the updates, so thank you.

And a huge thank you to Rich and Des.  It can get a bit hectic at times, but I think we managed not to fall out, and kept each other in check.

BETFAIR

These guys have offered so much added value to APAT this season, it"s difficult to know where to start.

Ahhh, the massage girls.  Didn"t get a chance myself, but I know a lot of the players actually enjoyed a rubdown for once.

Congratulations to Paul Pitchford, who as player of the championships, is now off to the WSOPE courtesy of Betfair, and good luck to the 57 players battling it out for the other WSOPE seat on the 6th September.

A special mention to Joe, who did a lot of organising prior to the event, and to Matt, Martin and Louis who made it to Nottingham to support the event.

So, that just leaves......

The Players

To everyone of you that cashed, congratulations.

If you won a medal, we hope you enjoy showing it off.  They do require daily polishing (It"s a full time job for Tony Trippier now  ;D ).

If you can now call yourself a "World Champion", then bask in the sunshine of success, you deserve it.

A special mention to Team Cymru.  Although I tried to hide the fact, you guys know I was supporting you all of the way, and along with some other great results, it"s been a great five days for the Welsh.

That just leaves around 400 players who didn"t cash.  But without your passion and enthusiasm to attend APAT events, it just wouldn"t work.  We hope you all had a great WCOAP experience, and maybe Dublin, Luton or Coventry might be your time to receive that significant media exposure.

Until next time,

Leigh

Hey Massive thanks to APAT and DTD. It was a very well run tournament. I"m very happy to have ran well enough to take the main event down.

thanks again, Ben

That"s the one, sorry for my ignorance of names Henry as I have been away for a while lol

Two cracking players and lots of funny banter around the table as they bounced off each other...my head was spinning trying to work out exactly which one was the biggest LAG in the end!!!!!

Oh and many many thanks to Des, Rich, Leigh and the team for putting on another great event - I"ve really missed going to these and will definitely be back. As for my first visit to DTD - what an amazing place and great staff. Although the place has style, its not over exuberant and everything rings of a club run by card players for card players. A massive thanks for a great experience and I will most definitely be frequenting there more regularly :-D
