Title: Saturday night poker, bump bump and I'm gone - Comments please, all appreciated!
Post by: Santino67 on October 23, 2010, 22:06:03 PM
Firstly I don"t want this to be a hard luck story, the 2nd hand speaks for itself anyway. Prayed the other player would think I was tilting  :D . Always trying to improve my game so keen to hear advice/tips/criticism. There i was cruising along from 1500 chips on Betfair to about 3.2k at level 4. The players on left and right had been fairly loose but dumped a few hands to re-raises.....then i ran into these 2 hands. First hand I"m particularly interested to know your views, especially the stack/pot sizes, position etc etc.

Cheers, Grant

1st hand would have re-raised 3 x the raise , if guy called would have gone all in on flop, if guy had gone all in over my raise standard call
As to 2nd hand well Mmmmm as was said THATS POKER

Considered the re-raise on first hand but worried about 2 callers then SB shoving on flop if I missed. Was happier to play the players, get chips in, then see the 5 cards come down if either of them called my shove.

Problem with this is, it makes your hand pretty transparent.  I always try to choose a similar bet-sizing with my entire range.  By turning our hand face-up, we allow villain to play pretty perfectly.

Agree 100% with this play.

2nd hand - there is no play going on. Just unlucky!

1st hand - even though im effectively putting my whole stack in, I"m making it 1k pre flop. If villain with the tens shoves then it"s a standard call but know I"m flipping at best. If I have to fold or feel I"m behind I stillnhave around 22-25bb left to find another spot

Had you just raised and got 2 callers I doubt the guy with 10 10 can continue in the hand safely. If you dont hot your ace, queen, flush or draw then you can take action then on possible info. I certainly won"t be open jamming on pre flop

The 2nd hand is fine but don"t like the open shove pre-flop with just AQ against 2 players. Risking way too much to pick up not much. Don"t mind the re-raise but i"m making a standard re-raise if i do here. Also be happy to just call here and see a flop, after all you have a drawing hand and by calling you disguise the strength of your hand. You"re not risking your big stack and online if you hit the ace then there"s a nice chance of stacking someone with a smaller ace. Especially as they won"t expect you to have a big ace. I make a lot of these moves online and they often work out as people can"t fold aces once they hit. For me it"s between re-raising and flat calling. Never shoving here.

Thanks everyone, all comments taken on board  8)

Reason i played hand 1 as I did was mainly because of the 2 players I was up against. By level 4 had a fair idea of dynamics and with amount of chips already in middle, stack sizes etc was happy to be up against the range of either player but not both. Didn"t want to flat call or standard re-raise because of position if I missed, particularly if both called the re-raise.

Cheers again for the input and advice, much appreciated.
