Coventry
Yes, Coventry
(http://img.skysports.com/08/07/480/Coventry-City--Ricoh-Arena-General_1058236.jpg)
"APAT sent to Coventry" I can see my own headline now, but for one APATer in the 150+ field Coventry will represent poker Nirvana as they will win the European Amateur Event, the final UK based national of Season 4 and with it several thousand pounds, a GUKPT seat for 2011 and significant media exposure. I mean significant too. Local newspapers, the works.

Won last year by a member of Village People
(http://www.apat.com/images/stuart_ward_playing.jpg)
this thread will document the tournament from first riffle to final hand with all the thrills and spills on the way.
Could it be you?

The G Casino Coentry is the former Isle of Capri casino, bought by Grosvenor, set in the Ricoh Arena, home of the East Midlands worst football team, Coventry City.
It is a tremendous facility, the casino, and of Vegas Standards

To be fair she won"t need you for support, that"s what epidurals are for and do you really WANT to be there anyway? I mean I love black pudding but I"d go off it forever if I had to witness it being made..do you know what I"m trying to say? Urghhh..arghh..eek.
Safer for all concerned if you"re at the pokers.

Good afternoon from Coventry.
It"s a little snowy here, but players are already gathering around the poker room.
One of the more popular players is Steve Roderick, who is captaining the APAT Forum team in Bolton. Everyone wants to have a chat with him. ;)
Rumour has it he is already recruiting, but some might be disappointed, as he"s looking for a sidekick to join him for a bit of cabaret later on.....

Live feed will be up from 2:15pm.
If you want us to grab any players for a quick chat, let us know.

sound gone
-
Right we are underway here, with 149 runners in the £75 Amateur Championship, so far.
Pictures and seat draw coming, and Maylis currently on the live feed
The Pro event starts at 3pm and currently has 6 runners. Not bad a 1 in 6 chance of a GUKPT seat for £250 currently, though no doubt a few more players will be along soon. A triumph of optimism from me as usual.
Lovely casino, nice friendly dealers..should be a good two days
-
Picture on live feed is grand and smooth but sound keeps chopping in and out...mostly out.
-
Caught my first monster pot of the tournament
Andy Hall has raised pre-flop and APAT Scottish Champion Scott Wilson has called him in the big blind
Flop tc 9c qd Wilson leads, Hall raises, Wilson calls. 5,000 in the middle now
Turn td Wilson check raises Hall all-in and d Hall has a very tough decision judging by the length of time he takes to call wih ks kc
On their backs for a near 20,000 pot
Wilson has jd jh, and Hall has some of his outs
River kd and Hall felts Wilson
-
Actually sound is grand when she"s in the main room but goes once ye head to the side area with the mic. Out of range maybe?

Yes noted. She is now tethered to the camera.

Is that Simon Alcock on the feature table?
Tell him to turn round, give us a wave then make sure he brings another medal back to Norfolk!
-
Did Frank Bailie make it ? he was stuck in Dublin airport all morning :(
-
Michelle Bricknell and Andrew Duncan both call a small raise
flop 3-3-5
Duncan and Bricknell both call a continuation bet
Duncan leads the turn, Bricknell calls
All the chips fly in on the river
Duncan with 3-3 for flopped Quads beats Bricknell with 5-5 for the flopped house.
Cowabunga!
Bricknell out, and into the £250 event

It does, yes.
Too much going on to give you much on the Pro league yet, but I do believe given the players remaining that he can"t be caught. Well played this season Stephen Boyd, who now has £20,000 of tournament entires for 2011 from Betfair Poker. G casinos country-wide are stocking up their bars as we speak

quick fire question for Maylis to ask Steve Redfern.
Do you think the old Steve would have caught a two outer in the K"s v A"s v AK hand?
-
hold that Q please. Unlucky Steve, what a sick cooler.
-
Reigning Champion (Has he mentioned that ?) Stuart Ward is out,
KK v QQ and a queen on the flop sees him depart.
Just after that Steve Redfern sees aces again, unfortunately it"s his opponent that has them. This time it was Chris Filus and Steve"s AQ was no good blind on blind.
-
I"ve just been to check into the hotel here, and now Rich has gone to do the same.
For anyone that doesn"t now, the rooms here look out over the football pitch, and anyone that knows Rich"s love of all thing sports stadium like, will know that we may have to drag him back to the casino.

Tighty Hotel update please.
I have a pitchside room, level with the penalty area. However the door to the stands does not open. and I packed a football too for a penalty shoot out tomorrow morning!
Architecturally the stadium is a typical modern design, of uniform height and rather soulless.
The bed is a fold away, as the room converts to a corporate box on match days. Not especially comfortable, however there is no bath in the middle of my room as some others have found, oddly.
the venue here typically has footfall of 2,500 visitors on a Saturday night which rises to 4,000 of an evening if Coventry are at home.
don"t like Coventry City much. However the pitchside rooms are things of genius. I will sleep with the curtains open and allow myself to wake from my slumbers tomorrow to the sight of empty seats in a football stadium. Heaven

Double up for Alan "Lucky" McBride.
He limps with three others to see a flop of 3 4 6
Alan holds 5 2 and luckily finds another player with a hand, being pocket 3"s
The chips go in, and Alan"s straight stays good and wins him the pot of 19k.

Amazing hand on the feature table.
3 Players see a flop of 3 4 A
Two players get their chips in :-
Vikrum Mehta has 4 3
Grant Spiers has A 3
The turn brings a 4 to give Vikrum a fullhouse
But the river is an Ace for the redraw and it"s a bigger fullhouse for Grant.
The pot was about 45k and has left Vikrum with less than 10k.

Pulled into my drive at 3.00am, after going out in 34ish when outdrawn by my team captain, Stu Oliver, good luck Stu, use "em wisely.
Good luck to Wayne Thomas, sat next to him through two of the slowest levels in history, dealers do have to learn, but should they be learning when the blinds are so high late in a tournament?
Big thanks to leigh and tighty as usual, and what a great casino! Nicest one I,ve been in, in the UK. Also a privilige to watch George Bedi run over a table, he did get lucky a time or two, but don"t we all from time to time, would love to see him TID.
Good luck to eveyone still in, will be watching later! :)

Good afternoon from the Ricoh Arena.
A quiet night (cough) in a football stadium was rather spoilt by a burst pipe at the venue this morning that meant that everyone had cold showers or no showers at all. That should make for a nice atmosphere in a few hours time.
Proceedings were rather enlivened on our teturn to the hotel last night by running into the annual Xmas function of the Coventry Building Society. Perhaps I am getting old, but how can people send out their daughters in -10c conditions wearing that little? Disgraceful. Even more disgraceful was that so many refused my offer of a fleece to keep them warm.
We get underway at 2.30pm

Don Roberts had a great day One
checks out of the hotel today, and walks behind a little cafe area and over a platform he thinks..sadly it was not a platform, and he stepped into the water feature, in front of 30 or so people
He is sitting here in wet trousers, and wet shoes, feeling mighty embarrassed
Serves him right for trying to walk on water. Save that for Steve Roderick

ROFL!!!!! Well played Don!!

One for the Spain thread in the National Championships section please, however I will say its about the expansion of APAT to new markets, as well as likely to be a great trip for those who go. And there were satellites too.
-
Good luck to Darren, Stuart, Rob & George.

I think Rich "warbwastard" Stevenson set an APAT record today. Played the £75, out within a level, played the £250, out within a level.
Ha, just seen this. I think I was out after two levels of the Pro game. But if anyone can beat that I"d be surprised.
He was out for most of the drive home also.
-
Come on George TID !!

As steve said great final 3.Dont mind who wins but i"d like to see if Bri martin cheers up if he takes it down.

I was pretending to sleep because I was sick of listening to your stories about what you use to get up to when you were in the Tufty Club.

Great tourney and final. Really enjoyed my first apat 75er for a while. Thanks to the guys behind the scenes- May, leigh, james, commentators etc.
I am obv not happy with 3rd but considering the cards I got dealt it was an above par finish even if I do say so myself. I rode my luck day 1 but played on instinct and more often than not got it right. I really wanted to fold the A7 vs Brian on my exit hand too but just couldn"t get away from the maths of the situation.
thanks also for everyone who supported me during the updates. Very much appreciated

As everyone has said is was a super strong final table with some very good poker being played and well done to Darren and George for making it a great podium.
Thanks to Tighty, Leigh, Maylis, James, Norm and Chad and to all the dealers and staff who apart from being inexperienced they really entered into it with gusto and did a great job especially the lovely Antony who dealt me all my winning hands ;)
It was tough holding in that smile at the end but I think I pulled it off ::)
Oh and well down to mole for winning something without a trophy ;D

Paul raise it up to 28k, George calls
Flop is ac 8h 5d
Paul bets 35k, Geroge calls
Turn is jc
Paul Checks, George bets 46.6k, Paul calls
River is 5c
Paul declares allin, George dwells, and eventualy folds
Paul wins pot of 230k
This was the best hand of an excellent final table. I managed to find out what the hands were from both players, any ideas?

Excellent tournament. Big thanks to Rich, Leigh, James, Maylis and the staff at G casino Coventry for all their hard work. Outstanding final table, well done to all the players involved and great to see some many APAT regulars battling out for the trophy. Well done to Brian for a great victory.
-
Made it home at last after 5 hours drive through the cold, snow and very tired eyes following a very very late finish last night. Huge thanks to Richard, Leigh, Maylis, James and especially to my travelling companion and room mate Derek Liddle for an amazing weekend.
Cheers also to everyone on my tables, was gutted to bubble but happy with my play and learned more along the way. Managed to take down the £15 Grosvenor afternoon game, finish 5th in the £25 evening game and get some extra pocket money from the cash table, so all in all pretty consistent over the weekend ;D
Thanks also to the G Casino staff and management, particularly my favourite dealer Alex who could do no wrong.
See you all again next year,
Grant

John Murray"s analysis of the hand was spot on. Standing behind me, when the river card was dealt he said "that will kill the action" about half a second later Paul says "all-in"

How"s about two clubs for Paul possibly the 8c and maybe the 7c or 9c...and an Ace 10ish type of hand for George or possibly J-8?
-
I know Paul"s hand so won"t spoil it
I"ll guess a 9-8 type hand for George, trying a floaty call on the flop and take it away on the turn once checked too...
-
JJ for Paul
A/9 for George?
-
Amazing hand on the feature table.
I"ll remember that hand for some considerable time. After the BB bet and i raise, then the SB (Vikrum) check/shoves. Very nearly folded and was so relieved when the cards went face up, then experienced the fastest rollercoaster of my life :D
Anyone know the odds for that turn/river combination? 600/1 ish?

Good to meet you again at the weekend Grant. Well done with the consistent results too!
Re the odds, I think it goes something like this;
With your two hands and the flop visible, there are 7 cards known and 45 unknown. There are 2 fours and 2 aces left and for the result you got it doesn"t matter which order they come in. The odds of an ace or four on the turn will be 4/45. Once one of these comes, the odds of the other card coming on the river will be 2/44. The odds of both these happening will be 4/45 times 2/44 which is 8/1980, which simplifies to 1/247.5 or 246.5 to 1.
For the sequence to be specifically a four then an ace, the chances will be 2/45 times 2/44 which is 4/1980, which simplifies to 1/495 or 494 to 1.
Either way a lucky result!
Alan.

Cheers Alan, yeah was thinking about that sequence specifically. Couldn"t figure it out last night as my head was hurting from the number of cards i"ve seen over the weekend and the long drive home. Was an amazing weekend and glad with how I played, calls and probably more importantly some of the lay-downs I made. Had more than my fair share of luck as well in the other 2 tournaments but glad to have won and been 5th, made up a bit for bubbling the main event. Hope to catch up again in the 2011 season 8)
-
Big thanks to all the Apat team and G Casino in Coventry for a great weekend.Even bigger thanks to Carl and Paul for letting Don and Lee kip on their room floor.Highlight was Don thinking he could walk on water only to get a very wet right foot. :D Still a few extra ideas for xmas prezzies, rubber ring, arm bands or even a pair of wellies(not sure what size)LOL.
-
Firstly congratulations Brian on your win. Must have been that mega breakfast at Tesco"s ;) that gave you the momentum or was it the bracing walk after a cold shower, whatever it was well played. Unlucky Darren another final table, truly outstanding.
Thanks to all the Apat & Casino staff who put on yet another memorable weekend. Hopefully see you at Bolton but if not I look forward to seeing you all again in season five.
Great to see so many Apat players who I now count as my friends, especially, The Stockton Crew, Jp, Pables, Paulie, The Gers,Scouse, Andy K, John Murray, jeldon, Steve R, Suzanne, James E, Chen,Mark L, Ant 66 (even though I did"nt actually run into him this time), well it is a big place, and anyone who knows me who I may have overlooked.
Carl & Paul absolute top gents, I guess I owe you one. As for you Lee I should have left you in the car to freeze with the lucozade.
P.S Let it be known in the unfortunate event of us having a new sponsor for season 5 my new player name will be Walter Feature. I guess I am going to get stick for a while about that one. :-[

After 5 years of trying, I was delighted to finally make an APAT live national Final table.
I remember boasting to Ian (Pables) before the tourney started, that If I ever make a Final table, I will go on and win it. LOL
One look at the line up on that final table line up and it was a pretty obvious I had a hell of a lot to do to live up to that boast and it was no surprise that the cream rose to the top leaving me out in 7th.
Ul George and Darren for falling short. A player who has not received much credit though, was Paul Rider who finished 4th. He came to our opening table on Day 1 having clearly ran over his previous table. On his new table he had no luck whatsoever and just couldn"t get anything going. When our table broke, he was short stacked. Fair play to him for adjusting and getting back to chip leader at the end of Day 1 and looked set for a great run at the title when he was chip leader on the FT.
Special mention to Brian. He was such a deserving winner and hardly put a foot wrong. I had the privilege of playing with him (and getting continually rubbed down) for most of the tourney. I was especially impressed that he nursed his short stack on the FT for so long whilst the rest of us were getting Ko"d. He had a terrible draw with all the shorties to his right and the big stacks to his left and adjusted to the situation perfectly. Well played Fella!!
Whilst 7th was far from ideal for me, a FT was an achievement to be proud of. Thanks to Leigh, Rich, Mayliss, Jesse and Neil and the gang for all their hard work.
See you in Bolton

Nice to see Rob and Stuart at the final too. Great weekend, liked the place and staff. Well done team Apat once again.
