Is there not scope to make this a bigger event ...

Why not more teams per country ... we could re-create Bannockburn ... if not enough tables??

Very true, but a lot of the players who Im sure would have been up for selection may be there.  There were around 10 APAT"ers there for the weekend last year.  Regardless this event will def be a great one this year!!!  Can"t w8 to start the season off!!

I know you will probably announce details of this after Coventry but how are you picking the teams? And when? Since we are only 5 weeks away people will need to book time off work. And with it being a bank holiday, the more time we get the better.

Teams in the UK & Ireland Home International Team Championship will be captained by the following players:-

England A - Jack Prime
England B - Steve Bayliff
Scotland A - Stuart Oliver
Scotland B - Louis Manson
Wales A - Steve Roderick
Wales B - Darren Shallis
Ireland A - John Murray
Ireland B - Marty Rice

We"ve amalgamated the Irish teams as the Irish Open is being played in the same week as this event.

Leigh will confirm the structure in due course, the only additional guideline that we would give for this event is that where two captains wish to call up the one player, then the A captain gets precedence.

This will be an outstanding Championship, so good luck to all Countries taking part.

As the structure is "still to be decided" ... what about some of the following:

Suitably deepstacked 8 seated STGs
Some 4 seated events
Some Heads Up

Personally I like the idea of 4 seated events more than heads up ...

Thoughts?

I had a thought which might be good all round ....

As the original plans were to have 5 x home counties( a and b ) at 4 players = 40 players....  now its 8 teams x 4 players = 32...  Why not still have 4 teams but increase the players to 5 per team....  so making 40 players total again...

This give some extra players the chance to play, less rejected requests.

It also does not appear to mess up the pre planned games which are now 8 players per table just changing to 10 per table, same number of tables still.

Jack (and other captains not playing) probably would not feel so guilty by playing himself.

Total payout pot would go up a little and make it more worthwhile for long distance travellers who would also want to try cover costs.

There are probably a lot more reasons which would benefit everybody...  By the way, I am not angling at getting myself a seat, I am not putting myself forward for this tournament.

Just my twopenneth..

I think Carl has some great ideas there but the point about 1 player per team per table is a show stopper IMO.

How about we make it "home internationals - plus invited guests" and have a team from, lets say......Canada!

and maybe another from the Isle of Man?

I don"t think it could be done. The four-man teams are intended to be separated by running on four tables. I wish I could think of a way that five-man teams could be kept separate.

John,

I may have a solution.  It"s a bit of a longshot, so I"m just going to work some "what if" scenarios through on a spreadsheet, but there"s a possibility, it might just tip the balance.

I"ll get back to this thread with my findings.

I"m all confused now.  Nothing new there then.   ;D

I know the Worlds Team event at DTD is selection based on what passport you hold.  Is that the case for this thing too, or is it just a case of where you reside?

Mucho cheers in advance for defogging the brain.   :)

As a little extra to this conversation, also, should people who play for Ireland (Northern or Republic), also should be aligned to Belfast or Dublin in the Online series?  Just sayin..!!

No probs, I agree, there"s a bit of a grey area here, and Des needs to clarify it.

Just catching up after a great weekend.

No confusion, country of birth effectively qualifies you unless you make a case on a different but sensible basis.  However, once you"re aligned to a country, that would be it ongoing.

Appreciate the thoughts around team numbers guys, but it will stay at 4 players per team.

Looks great Leigh - looking forward to it even more now.

Really pleased to see the addition of PLO but I am much better at Stud and think you knew that and are bias toward the Welsh. Hang on, has Rodders ever played PLO??

M"eh How hard can it be. Basically holdem with 4 cards init.

I"m all confused now.  Nothing new there then.   ;D

I know the Worlds Team event at DTD is selection based on what passport you hold.  Is that the case for this thing too, or is it just a case of where you reside?

Mucho cheers in advance for defogging the brain.   :)

I believe that the consensus amongst the PTB was that it"s one country only.

If you want to represent a country then that"s it forever. No swapping around....just pick one.

Craig was captain of Team Canada...he"s stuck with that as his choice....no double dipping.

Or perhaps my hearing was off.

Stop being a smart ass Pauly. There are people being excluded from an event because of their race as defined by British legislation as a Protected Characteristic. I"m quite happy to abide by Des's decition here as I don"t believe this was how this rule should be interpreted nor how it was meant to be interpreted.  However I am not happy about someone taking a glib attitude towards it.

No offence was meant, mate and I"m sorry if it came off that way, you are not the only one affected but you were the first to raise the issue...I was just trying to explain (albeit in a light hearted way) the decision that had been made.*

* I was not involved in the decision making process.

Obviously playing heads up for rollz against the champ would be a poor move. If you fancy a sensible sized heads up cash game at some time would be fun. Just to take on the champ like.

I would have to side completely with Paulie on this Craig.  Competitors in hundreds of sporting style events are excluded from participating in many events as a result of their nationality.

We try to remain as open as possible but it wouldn"t be right for players to pin their nationality to a flag dependant on the event that is being run. Those are my thoughts anyway.
