Title: BCPC PREMIER LEAGUE 1...WEEKLY UPDATE
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on March 25, 2011, 00:09:44 AM
The first game of the new Black Country Poker Club Premier League 1 was played on Thursday night.
Using the PokerStars "Home Games" format, 9 of the 12 registered players took part in Week One and the League began with a bang when the Stars sofware put everyone onto 2 tables as it has to allow for late registrations (even though there would be none !).
After early confusion, we all sat out until the admin could be contacted but once the late reg period had passed, we were off and running.

The first casualty was Tod Wood when on a  6d   8c   td  board, he raised, Will Young re-raised and Tod shoved with   9c   9d  only for Will to flip   ts   tc  and send Tod out with zero points.

We had a big pot develop on a   jh   7c    jd   :3c:   8s  board and Andy Overton put a meaty 975 bet in on the river. Paul Foy made what he hoped was a hero call with   ac   7h  but Andy had   ks   js  and moved into the chip-lead, leaving Paul desperately trying to get the Stars software to allow him to type a swear-word !!

Soon afterwards, Paul siezed his moment  and shoved his    qh   qs  in and was delighted to get a call from Tony Trippier holding   ad   jc  ....that was until the flop came down    ac   kc   6h  and Paul was out in 8th place.

We then saw what was probably the hand of the night.

On a board of    jc   8s   6s  Will bet, Tony called and short-stacked Steve Redfern (installed by Ladbrokes as 5-2 Favourite to win the Premier League) shoved all-in. Chip-Leader Will re-shoved and Tony snap-called........

Steve had   js   tc  for top pair,  Will had   6c   6h  for bottom set while Tony put his tourney on the line with   7s   5s   for the straight flush AND straight draws. Steve had less than  6% equity in the hand but the   5d  on the turn left Will a 2-1 favourite to eliminate Tony as well as Steve who was now out in 7th.  But the river came to Tony"s rescue when a   4d  dropped to complete his straight and to give him a big lead with 12k and put Will down to 2k.

Will got it all-in good once again with  kh   kd  to Brian Yates"s   ac   ks  but as always, the   ad   tc   td   board saw Will out in 6th to become the first points-scorer in BCPC Premier League history..even if it was only 1 point !

Tony"s lead would prove short-lived though, when on a board of   js   :as:   4h   :2s:  Tony called Andy Overton"s all-in shove holding   ah   qd  only to see Andy holding   :2c:   :2d:  and he then took over the lead on 10k with Tony back to 7k.

Rob Hewlitt was now down to just 800 chips and looked set to exit when his shove with   9c   6c  was dominated by Tony"s   ks   9s  .  The board of   td   :3d:   ad   8c  was no help but the magical   6d  kept Rob alive and left Tony firing expletives in his own inimitable way.

It was at this stage that the only non-BCPC live player in this Premier League, Aneurin Venables, was sat out for a long period. We believed it to be computer problems but rumours that he was servicing a few sheep were unconfirmed as we went to press :).  As it was, everyone showed how friendly the BCPC is by gang-raping his blinds and so when he finally returned, he was down to around 800.
He quickly doubled-up though when a raise that was 27 chips shy of all-in got re-raised by Brian with   ac   qd  . Aneurin flipped   ah   ad1  and doubled-up (probably with laughter !).

Despite that great bit of play, in a blind-on-blind duel with Andy, Aneurin"s   qd   :3c:  was dominated by   kc   9s  and when they both missed totally, Aneurin exited in 5th for 2 points.

Tony and Andy were now contesting several pots and on a board of   9h   js   8d   td   6s  both of them flipped Q-10 for the flopped nuts and split the pot.

But the next time that they clashed, short-stack Rob got involved too. The board showed   7c   7s   jc   :2c:   ts  and when Tony bet out, Andy raised and Rob shoved all-in. Tony then called and so did Andy.
Rob must have thought he was good on the flop holding   6h   7h   but exited with 5 pts in 4th place but Tony was holding   ac   :3c:  for the turned nut-flush.....but he had let Andy catch up and his   th   7d  gave him the winning full house and gave andy the 12k chip-lead while he dropped to 5k.

With all 3 players now in the money, Bri and Andy went to war on several occasions.  First on a board of   jd   kd   9h   Bri bet, Andy raised and Bri shoved, prompting Andy to tank then fold.

Then came a  qc   6s   7s  flop and Andy bet, Bri raised and Andy shoved, forcing Bri to fold and slip to 6k while Andy held a dominant 16k and prompted Tony to coin the phrase "Folded like a Bri".

The 3rd clash was a close one but resulted in Bri regaining the chip-lead when his   kd   td  was too good for Andy"s   kh   8h  on a   ks   :2h:   :3h:   7d   7c  board.

Tony though had become the whipping boy and when he finally shoved his last 2k with   kd    td   , Bri decided to call with   7s   8s  and got lucky on an amazing   ac   8c   8h  flop to leave tony with $36 and 7 pts.

Bri now held a substantial 4-1 chip-lead heads-up over Andy but it proved a cagey battle and when Bri made a rare shove with   tc   jd  Andy made the call with   5c   5h  and doubled-up to 7k.

He made further inroads and when he called another shove with  tc   th  he looked set to grab the lead against Brian"s    ah   js  when the flop came down    8d   :3d:   kc  but the    jc   hit on the turn Andy knew it was game over and so he had to settle for $54 and 9pts while Brian Yates was the week one winner, collecting $90 and 12 vital points.

The game, with 3000 chips and 15-minute blinds lasted 3:32 and was an excellent structure. Next Wednesday night sees the Premier League debuts of Clive Padden , Steve Bayliff and Mark Eagles while Steve Redfern, Tony Trippier and Andy Overton take a week off.

I had 8 k before car crash hand, and was comfortably chip leader. If my 58.242632 % equity holds up vs tony OESFD then i go on to win (i think anyway). I would of had 15k with 4 players left, blinds at 50-100 .   :-[

Excellent game last night. Great structure and some top banter. Happy with second. Came down to a coin-flip and i was on the wrong end of it so can"t complain.

Failed in my attempt to re-raise Bri off a big pot with 7-2os but aside from that happy with my play.  :)

Then won $80 playing a couple of SNGs before bed so all in all a good night.

Really looking forward to the next one and can hopefully bag another top spot to stay up the right end of the table. Don"t want to be down the bottom with Steve "Hellmuth" Redfern!  ;)

I"m not falling for this.

A blatant, "I won a Sit n Go last night" post from Brian Yates.  Nothing more, nothing less.   ;D

Granted, some tough competition.  Anyone want to offer some odds on who will take this down ?

PokerStars apparantly do not have the technology to NOT put us on a table where we don"t have to have a 10-minute wait for any latecomers so we all decided to sit-out until we were balanced 9-handed onto 1 table.....all that is except for Clive Padden.....who, having not got the message, preceeded to raise every hand as all the rest were sat out !
After some frantic phone calls we got him to dump the chips back and we were finally off and running....except for the new England "B" Captain, who decided to turn up fashionably late for his Premier League debut.

Paul Foy took an early lead but then soon after we saw a    jc   5h   jd  flop and Paul bet and Brian Yates called. Paul bet the   7d   turn and also the   9c   river, when Briand re-raised. Paul called with his   qd   jh  only to see Brian"s   9d   9h  for the rivered Full-House !

Clive Padden then got busy on a board of   td   jh   qs   tc  but Mark Eagles shoved all-in with his   kh   qh  and Clive called with  5h   qd and the river was no help, leaving him down to less than 1k.

After that it became almost a Heads-Up battle between Clive and Tod Wood for the first hour.
Will Young raised to 125, Clive made it 350, Tod 4-bet to 850 to get Will out of the way but Clive shoved his   :as:   ah  and Tod"s    9d   9c  didn"t improve.....Clive was back.

Round two saw Clive with   9d   9c  against Tod"s   ah   qs  but an Ace on the flop knocked Clive back once more.

Clive shoved them all-in once again on a   4s   jd   5h  board and it looked bad when both Mark and Steve Bayliff called him. The turn brought the   4c  and river was    ah. Mark showed   ts   tc  and Steve had   kc    jh  but Clive, the massive underdog on the flop, hit the river with his   ac   9c  to triple-up to almost his 3k starting stack.

Clive and Tod went toe-to-toe once more on a horrible looking board of   5s   jd   td   jc   js  and Clive"s meaty river bet with   7c   7h  was called by Tod with   ad   qc  to see Clive take the chip-lead !

Just after the first break, Clive bet and Mark shoved for his last 860. Clive made the call with    9h   kh  to Mark"s   ad   qc.  the flop of   8h   5h   7d  left Clive with plenty of outs and the    6c   on the turn saw Mark become the first player out.

Clive and Tod continued to mix it up but this time it was Tod"s turn to win when his    qs   qh  held up vs Clive"s   6s   6h

Clive was still reeling from that hit when he called Rob Hewlitt"s shove with   5d   5s  and found himself favourite as Rob flipped   ac   jc  but this time it was Clive"s turn to feel the force of the river when the board came down
kh   :2h:   :3c:   9c   ah  and suddenly he was down to 1700 chips.

This extrordinary game continued in the same vein as Clive, holding   ks   qh  called Rob"s all-in, only to see   ac   ah  .....the flop was little help   td   :3s:   6c   the turn gave hope   9h   ...and of course the river hit Clive   jh  and yet again, "The Cat" used up another life !

Aneurin Venables had been by far the quietest player on the table and when he finally got them in with  qd   ac  Steve Bayliff made the call and his   7h   7c  held to send Aneurin out in 8th place.

The next big hand saw Will make a pre-flop raise from the blinds and Paul Foy called. The board came   6c    9s   :2d:  and when Will bet, Paul shoved over the top. Will was never folding   jd   jc  and Paul"s   9c   tc  failed to improve and he exited in 7th place.

Clive Padden had led a charmed life tonight but even the luckiest players can get good hands so when he re-raised Brian Yates with   ah   ac  he was delighted to get a call. Clive bet the   tc   9c   td  flop but Brian shoved all-in with     jc   qc  and was almost 50-50 at that stage. The turn was    :3h:   but the river, the card that had helped Clive stay alive the whole night, finally killed him   7c  and he was out in 6th spot with 1 point.

Steve Bayliff was left desperately short when Tod"s  :3d:   4c  rivered two-pair and although he doubled-up next hand to 905, he was then forced all-in and got three callers and it was Tod who won the hand to put Steve out in 5th with 2 points.

Rob Hewlitt hardly put a foot wrong all game but after getting those Aces cracked, he then saw his  ac   qs  shove called by Tod with   qc   th  and the   9h   4d   ts  flop was enough to see off Rob in 4th spot to give him back-to-back money-bubble finishes.

Will and Tod then contested the next big hand and following a raise, 3-bet and call, we saw a flop of   td   4d   kc  and Tod moved his remaining 6k over the top of Wills 1800 bet. Will tanked but made the call with    kh    jc  and Tod flipped   :as:   qc   and the board was of no help and so Tod left in 3rd with his first points finish and $36.

Will went into the Heads-Up with a massive lead of 21,000 to Brian"s 6000 and dominated the early exchanges. But Brian was then unlucky when he got it in with   kc   8h  to Will"s   kd   :2d:  on a   kh   6s   4c  board  only to then see the board run out   js   4d  for a split.

Brian did finally manage a double-up and then began to take control to the extent that Will was now the one with just 5000 chips. After almost half-an-hour of Heads-Up, Brian shoved the    7s   qs   :3d:  flop holding   qh   th  and Will had to make the call with   qc   :2c:  The turn and river blanked and so Brian Yates completed back-to-back victories to take a commanding early lead and leave Tony Trippier, who had backed Will to win tonight at 5-1, slightly out of pocket :)

Collusion, chip dumping.  This really is the darker side of poker.

And just in case you thought this league wasn"t at all dodgy, Brian Yates wins back to back games in his own league.  All very suspicious if you ask me.   ;)

I wouldnt call a 3 bet oop with KJ.
I actually hate the way i played this because i had AKo, and probably should of 4 bet you pre flop. As played the flop was pretty dry (Kxx rainbow) so i check call, and i was gonna check call turn and go for a value bet on river, but when i hit trips and you bet 2.5k i figured if i shove for 7k ish, it will be hard for you to put me on Kx now, and i may get paid by 10s-QQs.
Title: BCPC PREMIER LEAGUE 1 - WEEK THREE
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on April 07, 2011, 00:03:12 AM
Well this was certainly the most aggressive game to date with the Heads-Up phase of the game being reached in just 90 minutes of play.

The first big hand of the night involved League Leader Brian Yates and the man holding up the rest, Paul Foy.

On a board of  th   4d   ts   kc   td  Paul raised and Brian re-raised. Paul tanked before making a brave call with  5c   5h  and Brian was down to 1700.

Soon after the two Steves, Redfern and Bayliff, clashed.  Steve bet, Scouse raised, Steve shoved all-in and Scouse made the call with   th   tc  but against Steve"s   :as:   ac  he was a big underdog, especially as Mark Eagles had passed   ts   td  and so Scouse exited in 9th position.

The car-crash hands continued as Tony Trippier raised, Andy Overton re-raised, Tony 4-bet and Andy shoved so when Tony made the call and the cards were flipped, it was no surprise to see Andy"s   kd   kh  up against the   :as:   ad  of Mr Tony "Unlucky" Trippier and the bullets held to send Andy to the rail.

Tony and Steve went to war when Steve called Tony"s pre-flop raise to 240 and the flop came   kh   tc   5h  . Tony bet 300 and Steve made it 960, with Tony making the call. the turn and river came   :2s:   jc  and when Steve bet 1740, Tony insta-called but his   :as:   kd  was miles behind Steve"s   5d   5s  and he moved to 11,000 while Tony slipped to 1700.

New BCPC Champion Clive Padden had been quiet so far but when Mark Eagles 3-bet all-in with   ah   kc  , Clive made the call with his   8s   8h  and we were off to the races. Mark though has run like a Dog so far in this League and a board of   4s   :3d:   4d   jd   qc  saw him out in 7th and rooted to the bottom now as the only player yet to trouble the scorers this season.

League leader Brian saw his quest for the Hat-Trick ended by new nemesis Paul Foy, despite the board of

4s   ad1   th   qs   9d  looking pretty good for Brian"s   :as:   qh  ...but not when Paul had  ah    ac  .

Clive looked good when all-in with   ac   qs  on a board of   ad   qd   jh   8h  but Stevie luckbox got there on the river when the   7h  made his   ah   th  the best hand and so Clive became another victim of the "Curse of the A-Q".

Steve was smashing this game now and his   :as:   :2c:  put Tony"s   ah   9h  to sleep on a   td   :2h:   ad1  flop and so Tony picked up 5pts but no cash.

Will was now guarranteed to remain 2nd in the table while both Paul and Steve had come into this game with zero points.
Shortstacked Will battled gamely and got his double-up with   ah   7s  against Paul"s   kd   js  but when they went to battle a 2nd time, Paul got lucky when his   :2d:   kc  , behind to Will"s   7c   qs  on a flop of   :2h:   7d   td  took the lead by making trips on the turn when the   :2s:  binked and the river sent Will out in 3rd with 7pts.

The Heads-Up battle was a monster, lasting just over an hour with Steve unable to see off Paul"s stubborn resistance.
The inevitable big hand though, wasn"t big at all but on a board of   7d   8s   :3c:  it all went in and Paul"s   7s   5c  was behind to Steve"s   jc   7c  and the turn   6d  and river   ah  blanked to leave Steve with 24500 to Paul"s 570 chips and soon after it was all over and Steve Redfern had his first Premier League win while Paul"s fine 2nd place gave him 9 pts to get him off and running for the Season.

Congrats to Steve on the win and well played Paul, a fine performance.

Had to laugh at the bit about Scouse being a "big underdog" when he had no outs.  :)

Gutted to go out so early, especially against the leader of the TTUC. Wish i"d never joined now, otherwise i"d have binked a King! Actually, as it"s Tony he"d have hit trips first card out then i"d have rivered a straight.  :)

Er, and what did you have Bri??  ;D

Well done Steve and Paul. Bring on Wednesday!

Having not been present on the rail at last night"s game on PokerStars, I can only give you the result of our first short-handed encouter of Season One....

First out was.....ermmmm....well as he never turned up, that would be Aneurin Venables, which meant all of the other 5 players were instantly into the points.

Tod Wood exited in a disappointing 5th place for just 1 point, although he did acknowledge a rare occurance in that he was outplayed by Tony Trippier ;D

Out in 4th went Andy Overton, meaning that the 2 points gained failed to propel him into the Top 4 despite 3 player above him not playing in this one.

The remaining 3 players consisted of the 2 favourites in Will Young and Tony Tripps, plus outsider Mark Eagles who had now clinched his first points of the Season and was looking to cause an upset.
The lead changed hands many times before Mark exited in 3rd, gaining 4 points to leave him just outside the Play-Off places.

That left Will needing the win that would take him to the top of the table before he takes a 4-game holiday break and he secured those 10 points with    9c   7d  on a   5c   4d   8s   6h  board with Tony holding   7c   jh.

WEEK FOUR TABLE

POS                                      PLD  PTS   CHIPS
1    WILL YOUNG                      4     27    5400
2    BRIAN YATES                     3     25    5000
3    TONY TRIPPIER                  3     19    3800
4    STEVE REDFERN                 2     12    2400

5    ANDY OVERTON                 3      11    2200
6    ROB HEWLITT                    2      10   2000
7    PAUL FOY                         3       9
8    TOD WOOD                       3       8

9    MARK EAGLES                    3       4
10   CLIVE PADDEN                    2       3
11   STEVE BAYLIFF                  2       2
12   ANEURIN VENABLES             3       2

The next game will take place this Sunday night and is 9-handed with the top 2 players, along with Paul Foy, sitting this one out.
That gives Tony Trippier(9-4) the chance to take over the Premier League leadership should he get a top 2 finish although 7-4 favourite and in-form Steve Redfern could have something to say about that.
Rob Hewlitt(4-1) returns to action after a Vegas visit and Andy Overton(3-1) will look to bounce back while all 4 players outside the Play-Off zone will need to take this opportunity to get some points on the board.

With leaders Will Young and Brian Yates both out of action, Tony trippier knew that a top 2 finish would see him leapfrog both players to take over the lead.

The game started with just 7 of the 9 entrants registered with Andy Overton forgetting and Rob Hewlitt maybe suffering a Las Vegas hangover ??

UK Online Runner-Up from last night and BCPC Heads-Up Runner-Up on Friday, Tod Wood was surprisingly the first player out and as it turned out the only one who didn"t score on the night and that would see him slip close to the foot of the table.

Steve Redfern had won on his last Premier League outing and was favourite to win tonight and was playing a tight game when he made an UTG raise with   qd   qh  and Mark Eagles called.
The flop came down   8d   9c   td  and it all went in as Mark showed   kh   tc  but the    ts  on the turn was enough to send Steve out in 6th with just 1 point to show for it.

The actual bottom spot is now occupied by BCPC current Champion Clive Padden, after his exit in 5th made him one of only 4 players (the other 3 occupy the top 3 places in the league) to have scored points in every game they have played so far.

Mark Eagles went in 4th to nab 5 points and Tony Trippier just fell short of the 2nd place required, although his 3rd place tonight did see him move 2nd overall.

That left Steve Bayliff and Aneurin Venables Heads-Up, which held a little irony as these were the bottom two players prior to tonight"s game.

Steve nabbed a big chip lead and despite Aneurin doubling-up once, it all went in on a flop of   qs   6s   :2s:  with Aneurin holding   qc   9c  and Steve ahead with his   qh   jh  .  The turn was   4h  and river   :2h:  which meant that Steve Bayliff"s kicker played and that gave him the victory that saw him rocket from bottom two to top four in one night !

POS                                PLD  PTS  CHIPS

11   TOD WOOD                4       8
12   CLIVE PADDEN            3       5

The 6th round of games is Wednesday 20th April and is 9-handed, with leader Will Young on holiday and the struggling Clive Padden and Mark Eagles also sitting that one out.
Tony Trippier starts that game as 7-4 Favourite as he bids once again to take over the lead. Steve Redfern is 2-1 to bounce back while Scouse Bayliff is 9-4 following tonight"s win.
Brian Yates and a smarting Andy "I forgot" Overton are both 3-1 with Tod Wood 7-2. Rob Hewlitt and Aneurin Venables are 4-1 with Paul Foy 5-1 outsider despite his 2nd place finish on his last outing.

Do you ever get deja vu? Having hit two pair Jacks and Kings on the flop was only worried about QT to give Clive Broadway. Ace on the turn. Yeah but surely he hasn"t got QT..... Oh.

Lost my final 1K in a flip with 88 v AQ so don"t mind that too much, and at least Steve used "em well to go onto win.

Onwards and upwards!

Tonights game gave Tony Trippier and Brian Yates the chance to pass the holidaying Will Young at the top of the Premier League but despite getting K-K twice early on, Tony had lost half of his stack just 45 minutes into the game.

By the first break he was up to 2000 but still 9th of 9 with Steve Bayliff making the running as he tried for his 2nd straight win...while at a Barbeque !!

Our first casualty came when there were 4 players in the pot and the flop came down   4h   8s   7h  and Tony in the SB bet out and just Paul Foy called.  The turn of   qc   saw all the money go in and Tony"s   8d   7s  held on the   9d  river against Paul"s   th   kh  to give Paul his 3rd Duck-Egg in 4 games.

Steve Redfern had lost a chunky pot with  kh   kd  when Andy Overton flopped an Ace, so when Aneurin Venables raised him, Steve shoved all-in with   ac   qh  but Aneurin was ahead with his   ah   ks  .....until the flop came down
qc   jc   7d .  But it all changed on the turn as the   tc  gave Aneurin the nut straight but Steve had re-draws to both split and win the pot outright but the   8s   on the river sealed his fate to leave him pointless tonight.

The 7th place is the "Points-Bubble" and tonight, for the first time, Brian Yates failed to trouble the scorers as he ran
jh   jd  into Andy Overton"s   ks   kh .

We then lost 2 players in 2 hands and the first one was an unbelievable cooler for Tony Trippier.  On a flop of
5h   7s   4c  Tony, holding   4d   5d  was delighted when Tod Wood raised his bet and Tony insta-shoved.....only for Tod to flip   7d   7h  and the   4h   turn and   6s  river just seemed to rub it in !!

The next one was unfortunate as Rob Hewlitt ran   7h   7s   into Scouse Bayliff"s   ad   ah  .....a sign of things to come for the England Skipper maybe ??

4-handed and the top two players from the last game looked as if they may be repeating their Heads-Up battle from Sunday night but Scouse got short and when he pushed with   qc   7c  Aneurin called with   qd   jc  and the   jh  on the flop saw Scouse out in 4th and out of the top 4 in the standings.

Unfortunately, Aneurin then lost connection and missed another monster hand.  A flop of   :3h:   :2h:   :as:  saw both Tod and Andy betting. The turn of   qs  saw bet-call but the river    tc   saw Andy shove and show   js   kc  to outdraw Tod"s flopped straight with   4d   5d  .

Soon afterwards Tod shoved with   ks   jh   and Andy called with   ac   kc  and the   8d   jd   :as:   ts   8c  saw Tod out in 3rd for 7 points.

We then saw a very sporting gesture from Andy as he sat out to wait for Aneurin to reconnect. He still had a 3-1 chip-lead ......and then we found out.......Aneurin had fell asleep !!
Cue Andy " I would have raped you good and proper had I known that".....which prompted the chat-box comment of "That"s what he told the sheep !"

The final hand saw Aneurin make an ill-timed shove with   7d   9d  and Andy made an easy call with   ad   jc  and although a flop of   :3h:   8c   6c  gave hope to the Welshman,  the   jh  and   kh  sealed a first Premier League win for Andy Overton to propel him into the top 4.

Title: BCPC PREMIER LEAGUE 1....WEEK EIGHT
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on April 27, 2011, 23:30:47 PM
This was only the 2nd 6-handed game so far this Season and only Tony Trippier had previously played one so far but for Steve Bayliff there would be no points as he failed to register on time, despite wearing the required attire of shorts and flip-flops (and a curly black wig  ;D ).

That left a match-up of 2 of the top 3 and 3 of the bottom 4 but the man holding up the rest remains Clive Padden. He decided to shove over the top of Brian Yates" re-raise on a flop of   :3c:   6c   th  but with Brian holding   :3d:   :3h:   it was an easy call and Clive was drawing pretty thin with his   ac   qd  and although the   js  turn gave him outs, the river of   qh  sealed his fate.

Paul Foy was refusing to let his BB get stolen at all tonight and he took two big pots off Brian before a limped pot saw all 4 go to the flop. The board came   kc   4h   4s  and it was bet at by Tony and Brian called.
The turn of   tc   went check-check before Brian made a big overbet on the    4d  river which Tony called and flipped over   :2h:   kh  only to see Brian"s   :3d:   4c  give him quads !

That left Tony short and on the day that he made day 2 of the GUKPT £300 event at Walsall for the BCPC, only to go out just short of the money to APAT's own John Miller, he was to see that this really was not his day when Brian called his pre-flop raise with   qh   jc  and when the board came   qc   qs   4s  Tony was a non-believer and shoved his remaining chips in the pot despite Brian leading out but his   td   tc  got no help and he was out in 4th place.

Paul was playing possibly his best game of the Season while Rob Hewlitt was solid as ever but after losing a decent pot, he tried to squeeze a limped pot by shoving   8s   6s  and Paul called with   ac   6d  and the board was no help to Rob and so we were heads-up.

This would prove to be a monsterous session lasting 205 hands. Both players took a slight lead but then decided to split the $100 prize, just before Paul took a commanding lead.
Brian fought back by getting paul to call a river-shove holding a straight and gradually took the initiative back, shoving 3 times without reply before Paul took a stand with   6h   6c  and looked good against Brian"s   :3h:   :3d:  .....
but the Poker Gods were smiling on Brian tonight and he flopped the  :3s:  and that was enough to give him his 3rd victory of the season and take him back to the top of the Premier League 1 table.
3-3 is the new nuts  :-*

Will Young will make his return from holiday next Sunday while leader Brian Yates now sits out from the next 3 games.
Will is well placed with only 4 games played while Clive Padden, Mark Eagles and Steve Redfern all need to make an impression over the next few games if they are to avoid being tailed off.
Steve Bayliff will also be frustrated at his failure to register in time tonight as he now sits out the next 2 games while Paul Foy will need to make his move in the next 3 as he then sits out 3 in a row.

Post by: BOINGBLITZ on May 09, 2011, 11:52:42 AM
Didn"t watch last night"s game due to a full screen of tables myself (!) but it was Mark Eagles who made his first cash and got his first win to move himself up into the play-off zone and give himself a real chance of making the live final in June.

1st - MARK EAGLES.....10 PTS + $100
2nd - Steve Bayliff.......7 pts
3rd - Paul Foy.............4 pts
4th - Andy Overton......2 pts
5th - Rob Hewlitt.........1 pt
6th - Aneurin Venables (did not play)

Andy Overton will have been disappointed with his 4th place finish and he is now under pressure with just 2 games left to play and will need a good result in Wednesday"s 9-handed game as he then sits the next 3 out before everyone plays the final game on June 1st.
Rob Hewlitt has also played 8 games and he too could be left hanging on if results go against him while Paul Foy and Aneurin Venables need to make a move soon or they could be out of the reckoning.
Both Tod Wood and Clive Padden have had disappointing seasons but with games in hand, they could yet have a shot at the play-offs with Clive now the only player yet to cash.
Will Young and Tony Trippier are the only players to have scored points in every game they have played and along with Brian Yates, they have all been in the top 3 since week 2.

Title: BCPC PREMIER LEAGUE 1....WEEK ELEVEN
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on May 12, 2011, 17:00:10 PM
We are now getting to the business end of the first BCPC Premier League season and what a great game we saw last night and by the end of it, all 12 players were left with something to play for with just 4 games left until the live Finals in July.

The winner of the previous game had been Mark Eagles and the 10 points gained then had lifted him into a play-off spot but he got the harshest of lessons in why you don"t slow-play your sets tonight.

With 3 players in the pot on a flop of    jc   qd   :2h:  Mark was holding   qs   qh  but he failed to re-raise Will Young and did the same on the   5h  turn so when the    ks  hit the river Will was a happy bunny holding   ts   9s  and Mark exited in 9th and moved out of the top 8.

At the first break, both Andy Overton and Tony Trippier were struggling while Clive Padden held the chip-lead as he went in search of his first cash of the season and it would be Andy and Tony, both players who are sitting comfortably in the top 4, who would be the next two to exit and score zero points.

The man who took them both out was Tod Wood, himself now struggling at the foot of the table and looking for vital points.
When Tony got the chips in pre-flop holding    ah   jd   Tod made the call with   ad   th    but it looked for all the world like Tod had escaped with a split-pot as the board came    4s   6d   4h   6c  until the   td   sent Tony to the rail and out of the points for the first time ever.

For Andy this was a night to forget. He hardly played a hand and when he did he lost, so when he picked up
:as:   ks     it was an easy shove, but even then his luck was out as Tod woke up with   qc   qh  and with the board coming down  J-high, Andy was gone in 7th.

Tod now had the taste for blood and got it on an innocuous looking   9h   5h   :3s:  flop. Tod bet, Steve Bayliff raised and Tod shoved. Scouse dwelt for a while before calling with   ah   8h  against Tod"s    9s   5c  and when the board ended with   jc   qd  Scouse became another notch on Tod"s lengthening list of conquests.

Aneurin Venables has so far fallen asleep when heads-up, forgotten to turn up at all last Sunday and tonight he was late due to a bowls game (!).....but he did make the points but shoving with   :2d:   jd  maybe wasn"t the best idea, even on a   6d   :2s:   7c  flop against Clive Padden"s   qd   9c  as a   9d  on the river saw him leave in 5th place.

That  left us with 2 guys in the top 4 (Brian Yates and Will Young) taking on the bottom 2 (Clive and Tod) and it was Brian who was first at risk but his   :as:   ks   outflopped Tod"s   jh    jc  to give him a double-up but when Will had the same hand against Clive"s   qc   qd  he was not so lucky and left in 4th, although with enough points to keep his grip on the lead of the Premier League.

So all 3 players were in the money but Brian was seriously short so seeing Tod raise, Brian insta-shoved his            :as:   ac     and Tod had the odds to call with his   jd   ts   . A  th   on the flop gave Tod hope but the     tc  on the river gave him another knockout.

That meant that the bottom two in the League were now Heads-Up and whoever won, that meant that the League points would now tighten up and make for an exciting climax to the Season.

The pivotal hand came with Tod shoving his   ad   6c   and Clive making the call with   5s   5h  and the   5c  meant that Clive was our winner to make his first cash of the season.

12   CLIVE PADDEN            6       18                 $90      20-1

The next game is 6-handed on Wednesday May 18th.
That will see 3 of the top 4 in action as Will, Tony and Brian lock horns once more and the pressure will be on Tony, playing his penultimate game of the Season.
Steve Redfern has the games in hand to get moving up the table while this week"s top 2, Tod and Clive, return to try and repeat last night"s fine performance.
Title: BCPC PREMIER LEAGUE 1....WEEK TWELVE
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on May 18, 2011, 23:02:33 PM
A tough 6-handed game tonight involving 3 of the top 4 players and with the pressure on 4th-placed Tony Trippier who was playing  his penultimate game of the season.
Tony made a terrific starts and took down several decent pots in the opening 2 levels but it was Steve Redfern who took the advantage away from him when he raised with   ad   ks  and got a call from Clive Padden with   qs   jd  .  The flop was

qc   tc   5c  and both players checked.  When Clive bet the   jh  turn, Steve shoved and Clive called and the   9c  river saw Clive out and still rooted to the bottom of the table.

So with Tony and Steve doing battle to be Table Captain maybe it was inevitable that they would bang heads sooner rather than later.  Tony made a pre-flop raise, Steve 3-bet and Tony 4-bet shoved all-in. Steve dwelt before calling with his   js   jh  and was probably shocked to see Tony"s   ks   qs  and when the board came down 8-high, Tony was out with just 1 point to leave his top-4 spot in jeapody.

There then followed an amazing hand. Steve was discussing the previous hand with Will Young when he raised, Tod Wood 3-bet and Steve called. The board came   9c   5h   4c  and went check-check.
Steve, still talking about the previous hand said "I would have loved the  :2h:.....just as the    :2h:  hits the turn, which prompted much laughter all round. Tod then bet, Steve raised and Tod shoved his   ac   ad1  ...only for Steve to reveal   :2s:   :2d:  and the  :2c:  on the river wrapped it up, to which Steve commented "I said I loved the 2 of hearts !"

3-handed and there were several scenarios.....If Will went out next he would lose the leadership of the League to Brian while Steve needed to win to oust Tony from the top 4.
Will was the short-stack but doubled-up with a flopped flush against Steve to put all 3 players close to even in chips.
Then came Will"s prophetic comment "You two are too tight...I am gonna have to cooler you"

The VERY NEXT HAND, Steve raised and Will called to see a flop of   4s   :3h:   qd.  It went check-check and likewise on the   ah  turn but when the   qs  hit the river Steve bet, Will raised, Steve 4-bet and Will shoved with his

qc   th  only for Steve to reveal he had raised pre-flop with...... :2d:   5d

A long Heads-Up ensued in which Steve held the upper hand throughout but the final hand was a little harsh when Brian raised and Steve called and on a flop of   :2h:   7d   8d  Brian insta-shoved his   8s   qh  and got Steve to call with the inferior   ts   8h  . The   jh  turn was no help but the   th       river gave Steve victory and pushed him right up into the play-off zone at Tony"s expense.

12   CLIVE PADDEN            7      18                $90       66-1

This Sunday"s game could be the last-chance saloon for several players as 4 of the bottom 5 go to war in an attempt to edge into that play-off zone.
New leader Brian Yates (6-4) can secure a place at the Final Table with a 3rd place finish or better but he will be up against the in-form Steve Redfern (5-4) who will look to consolidate his top-four spot.
The battle at the bottom will be led by Steve Bayliff (5-2) for whom a win could re-kindle realistic hopes of a top 4 finish. Aneurin Venables (3-1) probably needs a top 2 finishwhile both Mark Eagles (7-2) and Clive Padden (11-4) both have 3 games left but need to get some points on the board from this one.

Post by: BOINGBLITZ on May 24, 2011, 01:24:11 AM
Down to the business end of the competition now and for our first casualty last night, it may yet be the end of the road as Aneurin Venables scored zero points when a decent return was badly needed.

It all started to go wrong when he raised it up early doors with   9c   td  and got 2 callers.

The flop came down   qd   7h   8s  and when he bet out, he got one caller in Brian Yates. On the   :as:  turn Aneurin bet again and Brian shoved. Aneurin called and Brian showed   qc   qs  but the   8h  river left Aneurin very short and soon after, his shove with   jh   tc  got looked up by Steve Bayliff with   8c   8s  and the 6-high board saw the Welshman out in 6th, leaving him needing a top 3 finish in the final game to have any hope of a play-off spot.

Scouse got involved next with Steve Redfern when he called Steve"s raise with   :3c:   :3h:  .  Scouse then shoved on a flop of   4h   9c   :2c:  only to see Steve flip over   th   ts  ....but poker can be a cruel game and when the final 2 cards came down   5c   :as:  Steve Redfern uttered the immortal line "I am such a luckbox !"

2 hands later Steve had gone when he shoved   8s   qh  and Mark Eagles called with   4c   4s  and the   4h  flopped to see off Steve in 5th.

At that stage Mark was chipped-up but he got worn down by some aggressive 4-handed action and when he shoved  his   :as:   8c  into Scouse"s   ah   kd  he exited in 4th place and will now be under pressure in next Wednesday"s game.

Clive Padden was now the short-stack of the three after he got into several battles with Brian.
Firstly his shove with   kd   6h  got called by Brian with   ac   7c  and the board came   5h   5s   6s   7d  but the river of   ks  saw him double-up and he quickly did the same with   6s   6h  against Brian"s   :as:   ks  .

This meant that the roles were now reversed and when Brian shoved his   ac   ts  Clive called with   5h   5s  and we saw an amazing board of   th   :3h:   :3c:   tc   5c  to double Brian up before he did the same again with   qd   qh  vs     7s   7c  .

In an attempt to finally see off Clive, Brian shoved again with   :as:   7h  but Clive was going nowhere holding   jh   js  but the infernal   ad  sent Clive out in 3rd place with 4 points that finally lifted him off the foot of the table and gives him hopes of a play-off place.

Brian was now certain of a place in the top 4 but it was to be a tight battle with Scouse that lasted around 45 minutes before Steve"s  qh  qc  was good enough to give him his 2nd win of the season and the 10 pts gained saw him make a massive leap from 8th to 3rd in the table.
For Brian, 7 pts put him clear of Will Young at the top and a healthy 11,200 starting stack for the Final and with 2 games still to go to gain some more yet.

Title: BCPC PREMIER LEAGUE 1....WEEK FOURTEEN...ITS ALMOST OVER
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on May 26, 2011, 21:24:05 PM
The penultimate game in the BCPC Premier League 1 took place on Wednesday and by the end of the night, all 12 players still had a shot of making the Play-Offs in the final game on Wednesday June 1st.
Rob Hewlitt was a no-show as he was on a course with work but it was the man at the foot of the table, Paul Foy who made the early running.

Paul had slipped to the bottom on Sunday night when Clive Padden grabbed a 3rd place finish to get 4 points and tonight Clive got busy too when he raised with   9s   jc  and got a call from Will Young with   qh   kc  . The flop came down

jh   :2s:   tc   and when Clive bet out, Will pushed all-in and Clive called. The  4s  turn was no help so was Will going to finish pointless for the first time ??......ermmm......not when the   qs  hit the river, leaving Clive short (735) and telling Will he was now banned from playing in the SSPC Team Event !

Clive had to get busy now and it didn"t take long. Scouse Bayliff raised to 150 and when both Mark Eagles and Paul Foy called, Clive shoved his final 635 into the pot.  Scouse and Paul called and the board was   kd   5s   qc   ks   9s  which they then both checked down all the way. Steve showed   7h   7s  and Paul had   :as:   9c  while Clive was out with his  ad1   6d  .

Soon afterwards Paul put a big hit on Scouse and then killed him off for good when he shoved   qc   js   into Paul with his   ah   ac  . That put everyone in the points and would ultimately cost Scouse his place in the top 4.....though he failed to comment on his exit due to a chat-ban !!

Mark Eagles was in desperate need of points to try and make the play-offs and he was playing an impressive game when he got involved with Tod Wood. On a flop of   7s   4s   js  in an unraised pot, Tod bet out and Mark called.  The turn was the   qs   and when Tod checked, Mark bet out and Tod called. This was about to get ugly.

The river was the   4c  and when Tod bet out Mark, holding   :as:   8s  for the flopped nut-flush, shoved all-in. Tod........CALLED......and to Mark"s astonishment, showed   7d   4h  .....the clue was in the "unraised pot" bit !!
Mark crashed out in 6th and will now need a top 2 finish in the last game to make the play-offs.

Brian Yates was the tightest, some might say too tight, player at the table, but after getting two shoves through, his 3rd with   ah   8h  ran into Will"s   :as:   js  and Bri was out in 5th, giving Will the chance to regain the League lead with a win tonight.

Paul Foy is in a similar situation after his 4th place exit and needs at least a top 3 finish next Wednesday night. He got it all-in with   5s   5h  which was no match for Steve Redfern"s Big Blind of   ks   kc  .

That left Will now guaranteed a top 4 place and a seat at the Live Final Table and Steve could do the same if he could win this one. The two of them got it all-in, Steve with   ah   ks  against Will"s   td   tc   and the board came down        :2h:   kd   jc   jd   5c  to put Will out 3rd and keep Brian on top of the table.

Could Steve see off Tod ??....it looked that way when he shoved   td   th  and Tod had   ah   5s  but the flop gave Tod hope of a first victory   9h   6h   5h  , the   :3s:  turn bricked......but the river binked a    4h  and Tod was "flushed" with success, $80 plus 12 points that swept him into the top 4 for the first time all season.

12  ANEURIN VENABLES   22                 34   0      2      0

Brian Yates and Will Young have both clinched a place in the live final.

Steve Redfern, Steve Bayliff and Tod Wood have all clinched at least a play-off place.

Steve Redfern will play in the live final unless he scores zero points and Andy Overton finishes 1st and Steve Bayliff 2nd in the last game.

a 2nd place finish for Tod Wood will put him into the live final.

Steve Bayliff, Andy Overton and Tony Trippier MUST finish 4th or better to have a chance at making the live final.

Andy Overton needs a 6th place finish or better to guarantee a play-off place.

Tony Trippier needs at least a 4th place finish to secure a play-off place.

Rob Hewlitt must win to have a shot at the top 4 and 3rd place would guarantee him a play-off place

Paul Foy must finish 3rd or better and Mark Eagles,
Clive Padden and Aneurin Venables 2nd or better with Rob Hewlitt not scoring, to have a chance of a play-off place.

If Paul Foy finishes below 6th, Andy Overton makes at least a play-off spot.

If Paul Foy AND Mark Eagles finish below 6th, Tony Trippier makes at least a play-off spot.

If Brian Yates finishes ahead of Will Young, or if Will fails to finish at least 4th, Brian will be League Champion.

The live play-offs will be on Friday July 1st with 5th playing 8th and 6th vs 7th in heads-up matches to determine the final 2 places in the 6-handed final. This will be followed by the live final. 1st receives $300, 2nd $200 and 3rd $100.

lol likewise - hadn"t realised how critical just one result could potentially be.

I will be forever haunted by the heads up game vs Bri, if i dont win this league.

It was only the second leg and i started HU with a 5-1 chip lead and "Flabed" to lots of his shoves, then i found 55 and lost a flip vs 67. Then i went on to get completly owned when i held 2 pair and payed off his flush. then i tilted the rest away for a downswing of $50 but more importantly 6 potential points FML......

Cheers Andy. Great write up and analysis Bri - like Geoff Stelling on the final day of the season!

Just make sure you"re there for tonights game Steve, and don"t forget what we need to do.

"Steve Redfern will play in the live final unless he scores zero points and Andy Overton finishes 1st and Steve Bayliff 2nd in the last game. "

;)

For the final week of the first ever BCPC Premier League, all players were playing together so it was our first multi-table game and everyone involved still had a shot at the live Play-Offs and Final in July.
Aneurin Venables failed to register and so he finished bottom of the table and Andy Overton failed to show until 10 minutes after kick-off but it was Clive Padden whose season ended quickly when his   ts   tc  were busted by Tod Wood and his   :as:   qh   when the   ad1  flopped to send Clive out in 11th place.

We were now 1 elimination away from moving to the Final Table and that didn"t take long when Paul Foy holding

:as:   js    got into a raising war with Tony Trippier with   kd   jh  and the    jc  was no help to Tony who left us in 10th place and now had to hope that Paul didn"t win, with Rob Hewlitt 4th or better as that would eliminate Tony from the Play-Offs.

Tony"s elimination also assured Andy Overton of at least a place in the Play-Offs and he got unlucky not to double-up when both he and Rob Hewlitt held A-K but the next elimination was a sick one.

Tod Wood raised UTG with   kh   jd  but a short-stacked Mark Eagles shoved with   ac   kd  pricing Tod in for a crying call.  When the flop came   ks   tc   :as:  you just KNEW what was going to happen....and on the turn, there was the
expected   qd  and Mark was out in 9th and out of BCPC Premier League 1 also.

Tod and Paul were becoming the ones to watch tonight and so when Steve Redfern raised to 300 with   ac   kh  Paul made the call.  The flop was   :as:   :3s:  5c  and Paul checked, Steve bet and Paul called.
The turn brought the   6h  and Paul checked again, Steve bet almost his whole stack, Paul shoved and Steve had to call but he was well behind to Paul"s monsterous   4c   7c  and with the   :2d:  river no help to Steve, he left in 8th place to sweat on the security of his place in the top 4.

The very next hand we saw Rob Hewlitt out in 7th when he shoved   ks   9c  and Will Young made the call with        5c  5d   and the board bricked, putting Tony Trippier into the play-offs and giving more hope to Paul Foy of joining him.

Will came close to handing Brian the Title when he shoved   9c   8h  on a   8c   td   js  flop into Paul"s   jc   th  but the    8d  on the turn saved Will and left Paul bemoaning his luck in this League yet again.

Andy Overton has endured a nightmare run in this League over the past few games, being unable to build a stack and when he shoved his shortstack with   ac   5c  he ran into Brian"s   ad   ah  and was out in 6th and finished 6th in the table also.

That was the start of a card-rush for Brian. He raised UTG with   js   jc  and got Will to shove his   :as:   jh  and when the board was no help to Will, his exit made Brian the BCPC Premier League 1 League Champion.

ac   ad1  quickly followed as Scouse Bayliff shoved with   kc   8d  and that exit in 4th put Steve Redfern and Tod Wood into the play-offs and secured a play-off spot for Paul Foy at the expense of Rob Hewlitt.

The final 3 played out a Titanic struggle which, considering there was little now to play for, was a credit to the players involved. Tod, who has been Paul"s Nemesis throughout this Season, shoved   ks   th  and Paul called with   ad1   :2s:
and the flop put Tod ahead   7s   :3d:   td  . The turn   4s   was no help but the   ac  river kept Paul alive to leave Tod very low.

He did double up against both players to move to around 6000 chips but when Brian raised his button with   :as:   7h
Tod shoved with   ad   qs  and Paul flat-called behind with   ah   8h  and so Brian folded (FLABbed !!).

The flop was an incredible   5h   6h   kh  and so Tod was out in 3rd place tonight and also ousted Steve Redfern to finish 3rd overall in the League too.

Heads-Up and Paul and Brian had a great rollercoaster battle which Paul began with a big chip lead but the game went too-and-fro throughout.

Here are the main ones....

Bri  ah  :2d: shoves... Paul calls   9h  9c  board   qd   5d   jd   8d   ks  ...and Bri is back in it !!

Bri   ac   th  shoves...Paul calls    :as:   jd  board no help...and Paul has lead again.

Bri   :as:   qd  shoves...Paul calls   jd   kh  board   8d   qs   ts   8c   jc  and Bri takes big lead back

Bri   ah   4c  shoves...Paul has to call   qs   td  board   8c   8s   9h   9d   kc ...and Bri takes down his 4th win of the season while Paul scrapes into the Play-Offs on the final game.

In the play-offs it will be Steve Bayliff (8400 chips) vs  Paul Foy (6800) and Andy Overton (7400)  vs  Tony Trippier (7000) . These are the chips each player will have should they make the Final Table.

Each play-off is best of 3 and players will start with 3000 chips and a 10-minute clock as per BCPC rules. Both play-offs will start at 6PM . Should any player not be available to start until 7pm, then that game will be a one-off knockout as the Final Table must start at approximately 8pm.

Prizes for winners will be 1st = $300  2nd = $200  3rd = $100 and this will be transfered online by Brian.

This has been an awesome first season and anyone wishing to play next season, please post on our facebook page or list your interest on here. You do NOT need to be a BCPC member to play in the online league.

Good Luck to everyone in the Final next month.

Paul always gets lucky against me.  ;)

This league has been brilliant. When it first kicked off the amount of games seemed a bit daunting but now I"ll really miss not playing them until season 2. The structure is good and there"s lots of play, and the banter is great, as you would expect.

Well played Bri for entering the final with the most chips. Obviously now that we"ll be back in the New Talbot playing the final in a live format, you will obviously be first out. You can take some heart and encouragement from your online play though.  ;D

Lol. Nice rubdown. Wonder if he"ll STILL be proclaiming himself champion when it happens?  ;)

It"s been a great season. Really looking forward to the next one. Well done to all who"ve made the final table, especially Bri for topping the league. Played well all season and deserved it. Big up to Paul for clinching his place in last nights decider. Looking forward to the final now.

Hey, come on. Standard is sulking in a corner then staying, playing cash and getting pished!

As everyone will be playing apart from one, and there"ll be no bank of Freer it won"t be worth it. Unless Scouse gets knocked out and he get"s pished, then i might stay.  ;)
