I am no different, and in a rush this morning to head back from updating Nottingahm to home I realised, on the road to the Motorway that my Blackberry charger was in the socket in the room at the farmhouse (No need for an alarm clock if we remember correctly)

I considered turning round, but the traffic into the City at rush hour precluded that

So, emergency purchase of charger required

From memory, the Motorway service areas have little booths where they sell all things Mobile phone, but to stop there would have risked OCD hell

Why? Well i can"t go into MSAs as the sheer disorder of the things make me go haywire

Anyway, I decided I would detour off the motorway a junction early and head into the town centre to the Vodafone shop

This I did

£18 later I was the proud owner of

and furthermore I had resisted blandishments to upgrade, sidegrade,downgrade and the rest of it

Now the mobile phone shop is in a shopping centre. Modern, clean and pleasant. Opposite the phone shop is one of these...

Of course I usually have a furtive glance as I rush past, head bowed

Today I intended it to be no different

but as I exited the Vodafone shop there, emerging out of the Ann Summers shop, was my ex wife.

I had a double take. She had a double take

We exchanged a few tongue tied pleasantries, which concluded with her reminding me that my daughter was cooking me tea at her house at 6pm and please don"t be late and please look excited when she gives you her present and please don"t talk about poker etiquette, again, as it was boring last time. Especially for a 12 year old

I thanked her, and tried very hard not to look at the contents of TWO carrier bags, one on each arm

Disaster then struck, I opened the door out onto the street for her, but she stumbled (presumably over one of her six inch heels) into me and dropped her bags

There, peeping out of the bag was

not one

When she has no idea what you are talking about say you saw her Mum outside the pet shop with 2 rabbits.

All you need then is an excuse to drop off your daughter at her Mums at the end of the evening so you can see her face when challenged.

Pictures of the moment the penny drops would be the best Birthday present ever IMO.
