Post by: pokernuts07 on July 04, 2011, 21:22:39 PM
Hi All

I need some quick market research into home games.  If you could just spare a couple of minutes to answer the following questions I would be very grateful:

1. Do you run a home game?
2. Do you participate in home games eleswhere?
3. What is your usual structure?  SnG?, Cash?, or Other?
4. How many players in a normal session?
5. What is the normal buy-in?

Thanks in advance.

Grant

It isn"t illegal to run a home game...and it"s not usually the police"s job to enforce the Gambling Act anyway...that"s usually down to the local council although plod might be in attendance just in case of trouble.

I was actually reported to the gambling commision and was paid a visit.

As Santino says, it was the council and a police officer that came.

To be honest they was not very clued up and asked very silly questions.

At first they tried to make out it was more than a home game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said well it"s in my garage (which is part of my home) it"s between friends and acquaintances
so how is it not a home game ?.
They was also interested in the buy in, this again I told them was irrelevant  we could play for a million pounds if we chose.

They tried to talk me into gaining a gambling licence, yah OK just what I want (not).

We went through everything, I knew there was a couple of things that they could pull me up on.

I had a fruit machine, had to get shut or get a licence.

I charged £2 per player rake (included in all games was food), had to stop charging the rake.
I run the games, by all the stuff, use all my electric, put on hot pot or a curry, tea & coffee, set the game up and clean up after and they said no rake allowed.
So I changed it, now it is a gratuity payment (optional) but everybody wants to pay it.

My web sit seemed a bit inviting (wtf), they said anyone coming across it could contact me and join a game.
If this happened it would not be classed as a home game.
A home game is between friends and  acquaintances only.

Anyway I told them that I would sort these things out and I did.

This was months and months ago, not heard a thing from them, ignorant on their part.

So the games go on.

8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
