Title: Open Golf
Post by: ThinkerJE on July 13, 2011, 21:56:26 PM
Starts tomorrow, really looking forward to this.

Really fancy Lee Westwood this weekend to finally get the major he deserves, also gone for some bigger prices in case of another Curtis or Hamilton;

5 against the field (betfair prices)

Westwood 12.5
Kaymer 30
Love 30 (top 5), 210 (to win)
Palmer 40 (top 5), 290 (to win)
Coetzee 38 (top 5), 270 (to win)

I"m just looking for big hitters at a juicy price that i can trade with, so i"ve plumped for this select few :)

George Coetzee - in form and could cause a surprise, i took some 500"s and he is currently at 260"s... [good pick Tje]
Hunter Mahan - got some 250"s now at 160
Dustin Johnson - prone to the odd blow up :)  managed to get on at 110"s - now at 90"s
Angel Cabrera - in form, knows how to win a major - got on at 100"s - now at 95"s

i also wanted a way out there speculative punt on a golden oldie that i could trade with - Thomas Bjorn isn"t quite in the Tom Watson bracket of old timers but i have had a enormous sum of £3 matched at 600"s...

gla with your punts....

Great day of golf.

I took McDowell at 29/1 chopped back at 12/1
& Steve Stricker 43/1 ... not chopped yet.

Bjorn bet inspired!

Westwood 12.5 +4 likely to miss cut
Kaymer 30 -3 T4 and now favourite on betfair 7.8
Love 30 (top 5), 210 (to win) -2 T7 now 50 to win
Palmer 40 (top 5), 290 (to win) -1 T17 now 110 to win
Coetzee 38 (top 5), 270 (to win) -2 T7 no 50 to win

Westwood aside, very happy with my position at the halfway stage.

Great picks with Bjorn & Coetzee - assume you have locked in the profit now?

Had Justin Leonard and Ian Poulter to win.

Still have Sergio Garcia to win and Y E Yang for a top 5.

Nice picking so far Thinker!

Mega glad to have chopped McDowell bet ... reinvested in Dustin Johnston at a highly reasonable 21/1 on Betfair ...

Nice picking so far Thinker!

Long way to go and with only 7 shots covering the field anyone could still win...

yep and still left a wee bit riding... Bjorn did well today, he has hopefully got his so+so round outta of the way.. Coetzee should cope with the forecast winds and at -2 looks a good bet at 55"s as i write... Dustin Johnson is trading at 21"s and if his putter gets hot is the one to look out for imho...
It has been good viewing up to now, Watsons hole in 1 being the highlight, Clarke seems to of re-found some of the old sparkle, the Portrush air has done him good.. a putting lesson from Olazabal in Abu Dhabi back in Feb should hold him in good stead now the heat turns up over the weekend...
the worlds no1 and no2 are out hmmmm say no more....

below are some handy but brief tips...

I do have some wedge on Dustin Justin ... not sure what I think about the weather ...

Feels a bit like pick the outsider who can hold it to par (and win)

Gary Woodland 159/1 on course - going great.

Stephen Gallacher 229/1 - welcome the conditions??

It reminds me of Carnoustie in 1999 when Paul Lawrie came back from 10 shots behind on the last day! Of course I did not pick that one, but the conditions were there for it.

Mmm ... should be a great weekend of golf.

Dustin Johnston for the win ...

My plan for the day was to sit down with £400 and play £1/2 at the Fox ... crazy rains kept me home ... so lumped it on Dustin Justin average 21.3 ... just sold it all back to the market at 5.98 ... so dancing on a £6k profit it he sees it home!

Cheers Rob

It feels like I should take some profit.

Dustin Johnson (-4) : 3.60
Darren Clarke (-5) : 4.20
Rickie Fowler (-2) : 9.20

Given the course could savage anyone 13/5 is pretty skinny.

Also Darren Clarke played great today, as did Rickie in far worse conditions.

Last day of the Ryder Cup, Rickie showed he had tremendous spirit and talent.

I guess the plan will be to take profits as others fall away - will sleep on it.

I would take £400 profit and freeroll at the fox

... yes defo some appeal to this plan ...

Windy weather tomorrow ... with the possibility of late rain ... could be a crazy finish with 17th and 18th playing so hard.

Someone to post a score and hold on??

No profits taken and Mickelson on a charge!

Clarke 2.9
Mickelson 4.2
Johnson 4.4
Fowler 8.2

Could still take some juice - but will go for glory!

I"m assuming you went straight to the pub after 14th hole? Did not pass go? Did not collect a measly £200...?

Well to sum it all up, ""bloody marvellous"". Hearing the words ""Darren Clarke Open champion"" it has a nice ring to it don"t you think?
All my trading, backing and laying, backing again then laying off again for a wee profit was all done by the end of the third round. To be perfectly honest i did not want the distraction of betting come the 4th round. I was getting drawn in by the superb rounds of golf Clarkey was producing, the Irish were kicking butt again and my cold eye [as i call it] i knew it would be affected.
What a final round huh? the usual English summer weather just to make things extra tricky. The Mickleson charge which luckily for DC petered out after the 11th. Bjorn and Fowler looked threatening but there putting just did not ignite. Then the 14th and big booming Dustin hoiked one right out of bounds, wow that was the moment the Open was nicely wrapped up with a bow on it to tantalise DC. The big fella held it together superbly and got a great reception at the 18th.. Brilliant viewing and i was glad i could sit back and enjoy it, i see by the thread there was some punting going on, i hope you all did ok.

Pretty gutted - thought about taking some profit on the 14th tee - but felt it was a great chance to gain another shot and then think about it further.

Fair play to Clarke - he played extremely well - albeit with a massive break of luck on the 9th when he arrowed one at the bunker and then landed on the green!

Not sure what is next - 4th round golf is a nightmare - so often I have had monies that could be locked up but rarely do I take them!
