Title: Angle Shooting at the EPT Grand Final
Post by: PantsMan on July 21, 2011, 16:12:51 PM
Anyone else catch Ivan Freitez angle-shooting in the EPT Grand Final the other day on TV?

Basically, he hit a full house on the river and when the other guy bet out he stated Raise, then quickly said "Erm, no i mean call", then claimed his English was bad saying "No English". The floor manager was called over and he stated to the other guy involved that he had done the same thing at least 3 other times in the tournament and that he should know this but as he had stated raise he had to make the min raise. The guy eventually called (lord knows why given the information he had!) and lost the hand.

Everyone at the table looked disgusted and even the Thomas Kremser the floor manager looked like he wanted to slap the guy.

Good of the floor manager to give the guy having to make the call the information. Just a pity he couldn"t do more to stop it, especially as he knew exactly what he was doing.

Bad enough to see this kind of thing down your local casino but in the EPT Grand Final i"d have expected better.

I watched this.

Credit to the tournament management for stating that he"d tried this a number of times, but I don"t understand why there was no further action taken.

I watched this and couldn"t believe he got away unpunished.
As the TD knew he had done this at least 3 times already in the tourney, he should have gave the initial bettor the choice of letting the raise stand or indeed letting his opponent just flat call.
TD"s have the authority to ignore/bend rules for the pupose of fair play.

Thought exactly the same when watching it, dirty dirty dirty.

His celebrations prior to this were OTT too

I like the idea of giving the guy he"s doing it to the information that he"s done it before and then having the option of it just being a flat call. That way they all get to see what he"s up to but he doesn"t get paid off. Either that or he gets the option of giving him a good kicking if he turns over the nuts.  :)

I did like the commentators remarks about back in the old days doing what he did would have resulted in him getting shot! Harsh but fair i reckon.

when Yanayt made the call he new all about Ivan Freitez move and new he had done it 3 times with the nuts in san remo and also once b4 in the grand final so he must have thought he was double bluffing using the move again with a missed flush draw 2 make the call or he just wanted to make him look a c**t

Terrible angle by Freitez and terrible call by the American

+1

I know they are playing for big money, but this guy has to play these guys week in week out. Is the loss of respect really worth it?

Absolutely unbelievable ... amusing in that he would have got paid anyway ... perhaps a bigger bet too.

Great TD

Annoying that he won it!

So want to play these events!

Sigh, spoiler alert!

Interesting one for the TD, is it right that he gave information about him doing this before? Also is he breaking any rules here apart from terrible etiquette? So dirty, I would have gone beserk, perhaps he feels that the abuse he is likely to get when caught is worth the money...

Not for those of us that actively avoid the results to make the viewing more interesting. Knew reading this thread would be a mistake. Ah well the world hasn"t ended!!

The ruling was correct, as was imparting the additional information.

But after the hand I think a penalty should have been implemented as it was obviously angle-shooting and surely against the spirit of the game if not any specific rules that cover this?

(Love the way Yanayt dealt with it, classy bloke.  Also like his t-shirt :D)

Totally agree,,a mistake is fair enough but using it as a tactic should result in a penalty of some sort

Saw that last night. Awful awful play! Perfect shoving spot. May as well just throw AK away if you"re  going to play it that weakly!
