Title: Post Vegas Poker Blues
Post by: duncthehat on July 27, 2011, 17:10:16 PM
Its now a month since I came back from Vegas and am really suffering from the Blues.  Havent been to a cardroom since and probably wont until the APAT visits Nottingham.

Nl Hold em is most definitely not my game.   I am very much a stud player in all its variants and also love pl omaha and limit omaha hl.

Vegas was great, went over with former pro Danny Newman and loved my time there.  Played the mostly limit game circuit tournaments at Golden Nugget Binnions and Ceasars as well as making day 2 and just missing the money in the 1500 Horse at the WSOP.

Got to play with some of the names both past and present.  At the WSOP sitting at the same table as Bonomo Dwan Zolotow Pescatori Aakari Gavin Smith etc and not getting my ass kicked Particularly enjoyed playing with some of the old time names in limit poker such as Al Elgie Morris and Walter Smylie.  In fact spending a dinner break discussing stud hi lo strategy with Al was a highlight Poker wise

Apart from a couple of sit and goes at the Venetian NL Hold em was nowhere to be found.

I loved it!!!!   Back playing the Limit Poker i enjoy to which there is so few opportunities here in the UK

And now back to reality.    Back to my true level of a crappy recreational player with just holdem foldem on offer.

Online post black friday has destroyed the limit tourneys.   Stars Horse and Stud tourneys have so few runners it just isnt worth playing anymore.  Just about keeping an interest playing PL Omaha Heads up sit and goes on DTD

So thank f uck for APAT.    Am playing the Stud and the Horse and even though the fields are small I hope they will banish my post vegas blues.

If they dont its a long time to June 2012 :(

This genuinely isnt a i went to vegas brag.  I didnt really do any good after all!  But has anyone else suffered from this what is almost a depression?.   Is poker in Vegas really that much of a drug?

Apart from a few DtD sats not done much online or live poker since flying back :-(

Did you know Fox Club in London is runnning a £100 HORSE live Tourny Saturday? I"ve got prior commitments so my next taste of limit poker will be WCOAP too!

As a matter of interest, did they make you fill out any tax paperwork?

Just need my UK passport, though I had my ITIN with me. Another UK guy took nominal first and had to fill out full  paperwork but got it wothout any witholding tax. Took about 30 minutes to process, they gave us the official payouts and we had to go to an empty table and divvy up the $ according to our agreed chop.

So if you are in a tourney with a couple of yanks, you can offer to take first and therefore reduce the tax that they will pay, eg give you more power in the deal process.  ??????

The casino only reported first prize to IRS (nominally 8K I think), the two US players were very keen to deal and let us two brits be the ones having to complete the tax paperwork. I can guess it does help if you are good at negotiating to get an extra 500+ to "deal with paperwork" :)

Dont worry next June will soon be upon us. I"m really looking forwrd to Vagas next year cos Danny is 21 in May so he"ll be heading out for sure.

Maybe we should start a wsop 2012  thread after the November trip so we can all count down together!
