Title: Brighton - Future APAT venue?
Post by: mporter123 on September 15, 2011, 14:08:15 PM
I saw the announcement that the SPT are holding a leg at The Rendezvous in Brighton. Is there now potential for this to be a future APAT venue for next season if they are now being more accommodating for poker events? Been mentioned lots of times (mainly by John Murray) but would be great to see a leg of the APAT tour down south.

I agree...but I believe that Tighty approached them before and they weren"t interested or there were other reasons why it couldn"t be done....but I"m sure there is always scope for checking back with them.

I think this is worthy of being in the National Tour section as other, similar, discussions are going on there.

I don"t think Brighton should be used for APAT events - it would be hard for some of us to get there.

Agreed. Brighton is way to far away from the Midlands. When do we get Walsall back?

Actually Mark it"s going to be held at the G Casino, not Rendezvous. Shame as G casino parking is a nightmare and Rendezvous have their own car park, however I"m very, very happy to see a tournament that isn"t too expensive down near us (structure nowhere near as good as APAT though). Just got to qualify now as no buy in!

Just to caution....Brighton is one of numerous venues currently under discussion - we have not agreed to host a tournament there at this point.

Oh and Middlesbrough!!

We live in officially the worst place to live in Britain (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-487603/Revealed-The-worst-towns-live-Britain.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-487603/Revealed-The-worst-towns-live-Britain.html)) AND its the most depressing place in England (http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/117531/Middlesbrough-named-most-depressing-place-in-England (http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/117531/Middlesbrough-named-most-depressing-place-in-England))...

Actually. No. Please don"t ever come to Middlesbrough. We love the place. We"re proud to live here.

BUT its great to have an excuse to leave the place every once in a while to go to an APAT  :)

If we are considering a 3 day event to supplement the current structure, can I assume that where this takes place is paramount. It should be somewhere that requires a bit of effort to get to, so as to make most of us feel that we have been somewhere. If so, then the following criteria should be considered.

1. Easy access from the West Midlands
2. East access from the West Midlands
3. Venue to be as close to the West Midlands, and as far away from the South Coast as possible.

Can I suggest that day 1A is held in Steve Redferns back garden, day 1B in Andy Duncans Shed and Day 2 in Brian Yates" spare bedroom!!! :D :D :D

A new development in New Brighton, Wirral is to include a new GCasino.  Just across the Mersey from Liverpool, this could be a possible new APAT venue.  Suprisingly I live in the Wirral so any casino/cardroom close to Liverpool would be great.

As for a team event you can not get better than holding it in Leeds. Trains, planes and automobiles easy to get from the North, South, East or West plus I live 5 miles away.      ;)

Haven"t Gala recently launched a new poker room?

Also heard good things about Sheffield (as a poker venue, not the place itself)

Alea is by far the best place (not seen the new Gala room)

Have Alea got a new Casino/Card room Manager? They may have had a change of thinking

Well from the responses it seems that you wont be able to hold a APAT event that will please everyone.

How about holding regional live tournaments!

This could get even more people involved, people who have never played at any APAT events before.

I am sure that most regions would be able to get at least 50 - 75 players - 2-3 times a year.

At say £55 entry; it could provide a decent game, with a good prize pool to be won. You could have additional prizes, where the winner and the runner up from each regional game, would gain entry into the APAT championships in DTD.

I know that it would be hard work organising, but you might find enough volunteers from within the regions to help set these games up.

We had £20 regionals for 3 (2?) years. All fine, but a huge organisational task and as you would expect well supported in some areas, not in others

Its only the past 18 months that i have been involved with APAT.

Would it not be worthwhile to put a questionnaire  out to members, to see
what if any response there might be to those who would want to play,
those who would would help organise it.
From these responses you could see what areas would be interested and who may be interested in helping organise.

I do appreciate that those behind the scenes do an awful lot of work in organising and running the events, and often your work is taken for granted.

Sadly, as much as I like Gala Bristol and as good as it would be, Tighty has indicated that Gala as a company aren"t interested in doing business with APAT.

I"ve never had that indication at all from Gala, or any company in the industry.  Richard may not be talking to the right people.  Or as is more likely, he is utilising his knowledge of specific venues / locations from past experiences.

Sorry Des, I didn"t mean to cause trouble. It might just have been the way I read this quote;
