Title: Chips
Post by: Bodddders on June 12, 2007, 17:27:32 PM
Have just read a post on Blonde by Laz. suggesting that Apat provide their own chips for future live events. I think this a great idea. It will provide us with uniformity from event to event, and although the Fitzwilliam Club did a fantastic job, as Laz. says the chips were a bit light and had a plastic feel about them. I dont know how practical it will be with regards to cost and to transport that number of chips around the country especially if the events are going to be bigger. Also would the host casinos/card rooms have any objection to Apat using their own chips? Is there a set colour for each denomination, as this seems to alter from venue to venue?
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

I like the idea (I think). Shipping them in advance to the venues shouldn"t be a problem (and not a huge expense).

Some casinos will have an adequate number of decent chips for a large event. Others don"t.  APAT chips seems like a good idea to me.  I"m trying to think of any negatives to this idea - maybe people removing chips from one event and bringing them out at the next one to add to their stack.  This is obviously harder to do when you don"t know what chips are going to be used at the next event.  I guess it"s an issue that all casinos face with their regular tournaments anyway.

Other than that, it"s probably just a cost issue?

The 1k chips at the Fitz were very strange... but an improvement on having Roulette chips in Cardiff until the final table!

Very pricey though...

Must say I like the idea of APAt having their own chip sets if this is feasible expensewise, transportwise and securitywise.  I remember having a fair number of broken/incomplete chips at the Edinburgh event and also panicking right at the start as regards the colour and denomination of chips as these are not standard.  (Of course I soon realised the value was on each chip...!!!)

Just one slight gripe regarding the Walsall event. Why oh why were the 5000 and 100 chips almost identical in colour. Heard many stories on Saturday night regarding problems with incorrect bets and chip counts.
I think Apat should consider purchasing their own chips, a sponsor could be found to cover the costs, then at least we can have decent chips at these great events.

The similar colours of 100 and 5,000 chips was a bit strange - there are plenty of alternative colours that could have been used.

Other than that though, they"re up there with the best chips we"ve had so far at any APAT event.

I agree colour not the best, but the chips were good.

M3Boy looked a bit shocked when he saw a few of us playing a SnG with tourney chips. He was right to be worried as it was a security lapse but we made sure they went back to the card room manager.

Chipco ceramics I believe. Can"t beat playing with decent chips, they"re what we play with in our home game as I treated myself to a set earlier in the year. :)

chip colour was a nightmare for me..... oh, by the way... i"m colour blind! lol. had to keep asking the dealer "how much is the raise?" ok if he answered but not if he just fanned the chips out and the numbers were face down i had to ask again and explain why. small gripe i know but it is 1 in 5 of us fella"s other than that great day at Walsall, well worth giving my scooby doo van an outing, went out about 10.30 sat. night my KQ got busted by AK... see you all in Manchester. I think you will find the Blue Square are the sponsor and that we used their chips on Saturday. I had no problems with colour or weight, only that I did not have enough as the day went on !!

Don"t think the BlueSQ deal had been announced when the OP started the thread.

But I agree with the rest of what you said!! ;D

I have just bought a nice new set of 1000 Clay chips, getting them shipped over from America..  They are great and less than half the cost of the same over here..!!  And..  They are tremendous...!!!!

If APAT are skint, maybe I can donate the old ones.. LOL..

Ill post post post..

I actually think its a good idea, along with probably getting some nice card protectors going for people to possibly buy, or even give away, BSQ on one side, APAT logo on the other..

so how many chips would we need. In Walsall I think we had 4x25 - 4x100 - 3x500 -3x1000 - 1x5000. Please correct me if i"m wrong. Making a total of 15 chips per person. 200 runners = 3000 chips. Of course extras will be needed for alternates and larger fields & chipping up. So lets say 5000 - 6000 chips in total. How much do you think these would cost, bearing in mind we would want quality printed chips.

Nice idea..only drawback I see is that on any change of sponsor..your Chips/Card Protector is as out of date as Spurs/Arsenal/Machester Utd kit from 3 months ago.

Best just to go with the APAT Logo...whatever that is ;D

This is a good idea in principle, with only two potential drawbacks.  1) The logistics of carting them around and 2) Security / people holding onto them as card protectors etc, when they remain the APAT tournament currency.

Leave your coat Daniel, you don"t deserve it.

It"s not going to be hard to carry around 6000 chips, and who would steal a chip to use as a card protector??

APAT already do a nice card protector... finish 1, 2 or 3 at a regional event and you can get one... choice of 3 colours too! :-)

IThe regional gold one is perfect for the job - although it didn"t help my 8s hold up against the AK I pushed against  :(

I have a gold medal ::) - I just need a smaller one that doesn"t cover half the table.

I could use my trophy I guess?  ;D

Walsall was my first APAT tourney (hopefully not my last, depending on qualifying!!) - the chip quality was great and much better than those I"ve used before (apart from having them all taken off me the hand before dinner with KK against 10 Q !!!). APAT having their own chips would be a great idea.

:)

Yeah...I have one..(only bronze unfortunately) and I can"t afford the diesel for the forklift to lift it off me cards.

Des, just an lil" idee (as t"were) how about a mini-medal for the National medal winners in addition to the stonking great lump of metal that"ll only sit on the mantlepiece. Something to carry around, use everyday and "fly the APAT flag"?

Otherwise, I"m thinking of descrating the big one and turning it into a belt buckle!
