Title: William Hill English Amateur Poker Championship - Satellite Information
Post by: Paulie_D on February 26, 2012, 10:07:18 AM
The satellites can be found on the William Hill client, under William Hill Exclusive as "WH En Amateur P-Champ" on Feb 27, 28 and 29 at 8pm.

The holding tank is labelled "English Amateur Holding Tank" on Mar 1 at 8pm.

It should not be restricted if you have the password Brian, which I presume you have.  I will raise as an issue with William Hill with the intention of it being sorted ahead of the first satellite tomorrow night.  Thanks for letting us know today.

Dunno if it has been mentioned or not? .. What if you can"t make Coventry, but want to try and bink a seat in the intention of perhaps using the buy in for  another APAT event? Is this ok to do or is it strictly non transferable?

Good question....which also leads to my query....can u win multiple entries (in theory),to the same event...and what would happen in that case?...

Carl. I"m of the opinion that you should not try to satellite into an event you KNOW you can"t make but if you bink you should be able to sell the seat on the exchange.

Satellites are to allow you to win a seat not increase your bankroll and I would hope that anyone who did bink would not deprive others of the same opportunity.

I agree paulie....I know ipoker doesn"t work like the stars t$ system...just curious if you could collect entrys throughout the season for various events

That"s not the system...it"s either win a seat to the specific event or sell it via the seat exchange and use the cash to buy into future events...if you can. There are no holdovers or guarantees of getting into future events.

...but like I said, I would hope that APATers would not "abuse" the satellite system to increase their bankroll at the expense of other members.
Title: Re: William Hill English Amateur Poker Championship - Satellite Information

A minor observation - the sats are priced in GBP (£20, £10, £5r), where they used to be in USD ($20, $10, $5r). The main event price has increased from £75 to £82.50..... but even then, £22 for a sat to an £82.50 might be a little excessive..?

Can"t play Tuesday nights.... so will have to go for the £5r, as not really interested in playing for £22 to an £82.50 event.

Not a problem Paulie.. Not interested in either building my bankroll or selling my seat.. Just enjoy playing sats to try and get a cheap seat, I would use it in another event that"s all.. In past I have won seats on DTD etc and Leigh/Des have honoured my seat to an event I was able to attend.. In fact I won a seat to DTD worlds main event last season a sold it to my friend at at half price, so def not trying to rob fellow APAT members..

Would never suggest such a thing.

Obviously, if arrangements CAN be made (due to unforeseen circumstances) then that"s fine (subject to Des/Tighty approval).

As I said, entering and winning a seat in a satellite for a particular event that you KNOW you can"t attend is depriving another APATer the opportunity to do the same and that"s just not what APAT is about IMO.

Look at it this way...

Player A is a Coventry local who can"t attend any other event for a number of reasons.

He fancies his chances of satelliting in and finishes just one place short to someone who isn"t going to attend.

He"s now in the position of having been "done" out of a cheap seat by someone who won"t even be going....does that seem fair?

Obviously this isn"t aimed at anyone in particular...it"s just a hypothetical, just my opinion...and others may disagree.

evening sir des of the court of the tight one, minor gripe...satellites are in the wrong order, really need to run the cheapest first, if i fail in that then i"d enter the dearer one next night and no doubt repeat for the wednesday one....i wouldn"t do that with the current set up where the dear ones are first so WH lose out...i"ll wait til wednesday, bubble as usual then won"t get the opportunity to play the other sats...
I see the same has been planned with the online champ sats too, maybe i"m missing something, does everybody else find it more appealing to have the dearer sats first?

Interesting question Allan and I"d welcome feedback too. The current process offers increasingly less expensive options should you fail in the first or second satellites.

Never thought about it until now, but feel that it might make more sense to have the cheaper one first.... might get more runners, then perhaps some of those come back on the following nights to play again.  As it stands, people may still go for the cheaper one, and swerve the expensive ones.... but if they miss out in the cheaper one, they have no further opportunity.

Bloody Coventry players should pay better imo ;D

Also, if Carl hadn"t entered the Sat would not have made enough for the extra seat anyway. (hypothetically of course)  ;)

Only pulling your leg Paulie :)

On the subject though; and a serious suggestion.

Why don"t APAT set the resell seats at £85, the extra £2.50 going to APAT as commission? Seems fair to me.

yip, that"s my point, would get more runners and more of them would be likely to play at least the next most expensive sat...well, i would be...and if i""ve played 2 i"d probably play the third just to try and save something on the entry...being scottish and therefore inherently miserable, avoiding the expensive ones unless i have to play them is the default mode :-)
seriously though, makes no sense to me why you"d have the dear one first, there must be some kind of logic to it but i don"t understand it....
Not that it matters but i"m fairly sure this isn"t the way it"s always been...

I prefer the dearest one first... The field is normally the smallest and if I was not in work I would have preferred to play tonight. My logic is to try the dearer one first and if you don"t qualify then a cheaper tourney is better than having to pay more for a second bite. I don"t normally try the rebuys and I won"t be able to this week as I will be working again. So it looks like tomorrow will be a determined effort to get a seat...

FWIW I think it was an ok structure for a satellite and played out quite well compared to certain previous sponsors" sites.

Will be trying again tomorrow.

btw - the £5 /$5 rebuy is not necessarily the cheapest.... ask Ger  8)

I agree with Captain Slow  ;D

The biggest ratio of players to seats is in the 20 f/o. The task gets tougher during the week but cheaper too (although the rebuy can get expensive lol). Prefer to set aside 1 evening rather than 3, but if I fail on the first there"s the "cheaper" options if I"m determined to get in. The other way around it would usually take more than 1 shot and I don"t like it getting dearer to do it. Each to their own I guess.

APAT don"t take random bits!

William Hill have made a mistake in setup and I"ve written to them asking them to honour the tenth seat; if they don"t APAT will pay the difference.  But above all, WH need to ensure the mistake is not repeated tomorrow evening.

In an hour of play at my tables there was quad 4"s from a guy who had 25 chips remaining, a runner runner royal flush, followed by my aces being cracked by tens who managed to quad up the very next hand after the royal. Sick!

It"s now showing 19 in the holding tank, none of whom qualified in the sats?

Some people saw it was open and just registered.

I think Des was arranging for it to be closed and re-opened after the satellites are over but the WH rep is, apparently, hard to get hold of and thus there may be a delay.

I suppose "they" I should unreg and go for it again tomorrow.

Ideally, the tank would have not opened until tomorrow at the right time.

I"m guessing that WH just made a c*ck-up and left it open and some over-eager APAT enthusiasts took advantage of the slip-up.

In short...no they we weren"t.

Just noticed on the Sat for tonight that the initial £5 buy in gets you 3000 chips, but a rebuy only gets 1500 chips..... surely that"s the wrong way round?  Would take more money and produce more seats if the buy in got 1500 and the rebuy got 3000 (more people would double buy in).   Also looks like there is no add-on.

With it set like it is, the tourney will play much more like a freezout than a rampant rebuy.... and that will produce a smaller prize pool.

If you don"t come through the qualifiers the holding tank will open on Thursday eve at 8pm and players can buy in direct for £82.50.

But it"s open with no guarantees of closing at any point before the scheduled opening time tomorrow night, so what will you do in the highly unlikely event that you don"t qualify tonight? Will you wait until 8pm tomorrow night even though others can potentially register throughout the day?

I know you are trying to do the right thing but I"m fearful you could miss out as more people pick up on this.

What would YOU like those with names in the tank to do Des & will APAT be enforcing anything? I will not be able to unreg in the morning but could do so tonight.

Or to Tighty"s point above re selling out quickly do you suspect it won"t be an issue?

I can"t speak for Des, JP, but my personal opinion is we"ll be ok

200 capacity at Coventry. More than APAT events there previously. I don"t think anybody tomorrow night is going to miss out by the tank being open early, unfortunate though the error is

Therefore I don"t think anyone else needs to jump the gun and register early. Not that some of APAT's finest have set you a great example, accepted :D

Well I"d prefer to have a final position from William Hill before taking a call. Ultimately a mistake on their part has led to the issue, not from APAT or the members. I"d be surprised if we sell out quickly tomorrow. Depending on what WH say tomorrow, I can certainly delay the on-sale database mailing until Friday.  That should giv everyone a fair opportunity tomorrow evening.

Ok. I"m totally confused! Here"s my story (and I"m sticking to it):

I"ve just downloaded William Hill Site.
Took about an hour to find the holding tank.
Noticed it was open and registered.
Came on here because I thought it shouldn"t be and wanted to see what was going on!

Registering for this tomorrow night is awkward for me, I"d have to make a special journey home just to register. So doing it tonight seemed to be a "run good" for me.

Do I HAVE TO de-register?

Please advise me on what is allowed and what is expected of me?

Players can make their own decision. I don"t feel in a position to tell players to unregister as William Hill have made a mistake leaving the holding tank open. Some players may have registered and be completely unaware that it shouldn"t be open. As I mentioned elsewhere, I will hold off sending out the group email until Friday, which may help.

Actually Des the holding tank is due to close at 8pm. So you"re gonna have to set up a whole new holding tank pretty sharpish, or get them to extend the registration of the one we"ve got!

Thought the satellite last night was far too long a structure for a £5 rebuy satellite.  Finished at almost 1 o"clock, and won"t be making that mistake again!  Only played because I was playing satellites elsewhere and thought I"d do that one at the same time.

Also a bit strange that there was no add-on at the end of the rebuy period.  That"s a new one for me, and everyone else at the table was a little surprised as well.

iPoker strikes again, its the only sites that won"t allow people from the same IP to play the same tournament. Richard and I can"t play the satellites or Saturday"s Championship together.

Hope this is the last ipoker site APAT will be using this season. I know we"re not the only couple that have this problem...

It is a shame tho as all other sites allow it after confirming our identities!
