Title: APAT European Amateur Poker Championship 2008
Post by: APAT on January 28, 2008, 22:11:27 PM
The 2008 European Amateur Championship will be held at the Poker Royale Casino; the home of Europe"s largest cardroom, which is just outside of Vienna in Austria.

The event will have 200 players and be played over the Easter bank holiday weekend.  Play will start at 2.30pm on Saturday March 22nd, with the final being held the following day.

Online satellites will be held at Blue Square at 8pm on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday night, starting on February 3rd and running up to February 17th.  The entry price for satellites will be $30 + $3 and there will be a $600 prize for every 20 players.  Each satellite will offer 3,000 chips and 12 minute levels.

60 seats will be allocated to European based poker groups and amateur players are expected to attend this event from Scandinavia, Italy, Germany, Austria in addition to the UK and Ireland.

The remaining seats will be sold via a direct buy in from the APAT home page at 9pm on Monday February 18th.

Hotel rooms will be available from 30 Euro per night for the event.

APAT will run a live update from the event as we follow the progress of 2007 European Amateur Champion, Gareth Ower and fellow members, in Austria.

Exciting stuff. Can you tell me how much the direct buy in will be please? Does the $600 prize from the satellites cover the entry fee only or travel+entry or something else?

£75 buy in .

So  $600 to include expenses of flight and accom.

Post by: APAT on January 28, 2008, 23:27:52 PM
The buy in for the event remains £75, so the $600 will leave around $450 to contribute towards a flight and cheap hotel.

Ooooh Germany lite, I"ve never been there.  You mentioned earlier they wanted 600 runners, has it been capped at 200 by APAT?  Could we not have just said max 600 runners and sort of played it by ear as far as demand goes from the clickfest?

Will we have to eat boiled cabbage?  I might take sandwiches.

Travelling via Easyjet on Friday 22nd from Luton and flying back on the Monday costs £175.
Can anyone find anything cheaper?

Very unlikely...BA is similar,...being a bank holiday, the world and his wife will want to come back on the Monday,...so prices will only get higher by the day.

Everybody was very tempted to go for a big number, but given it is APAT's first proper foray overseas, we felt it important to get it right.  I think we could have had several hundred players from Europe in the event, but we have avoided that temptation and I would be surprised if anyone failed to get a seat at this end.

Think you are right Des I think anyone that does want to play is likely to get in

£139 on Expedia going out on either Friday or Saturday morning and coming back Monday.  Sat qualifiers will get around $450 on top of their entry fee to put towards the flight.

Thanks for that Des.

Congratulations on negotiating this and making it happen.  I think everyone that does play will really get the feel of a true european event

Sounds fab Des congrats to the APAT team for, once again, coming up with such a superb tournament and venue.

Online sats should prove quite popular with regard to the extra for flights etc.  Ive checked from here and cheapest is £254 so will need to try those sats or fork out some dough hehe

I thought the idea was to paraCrute in to the venue?  I can hotwire a Hercules from RAF Brize Norton.  How can we all be sure the Italians, Swiss and Jormans playing are all amateurs and play as bad as I do?  We don"t want a sudden influx of foreigners preventing young British talent coming through etc etc  Can we have a secret wager between us all on who can spot the biggest tash or blonde perm?

Any hotels "block booked" Des ?

Not knowing the area, or how the postal codes work in Austria, I"m not sure which are the nearest hotels. Anybody with any "local" knowledge....?

Booked a hotel in the middle of Weiner Neustadt -- Hotel Zentral
46 Euros a night for Einbettzimmer (double room for single use).

Working on the flights from manchester, cheapest so far £212 via Munich to Vienna. Weiner Neustadt is about 50km from vienna but the trains are good.

Next stop the sats to defray the expense.

The Duke is about to hit Austria, lock up your Kaiser Beer Doppelmalz..........

I can get there filthy cheap from Paderborn which is 20 minutes down the road from me in Germany. However I don"t get back from Norway until 14 Mar, and am planning a family holiday.

So really I think I"ll have to give this a miss, as its not really fair on my family. Taking them to Vienna is not really an option either, as the boys are a bit young. I think Lucy would kill me!!!!

However good luck to all that play and if its in the same location next year, I"ll play (when I get back from Afghan lol)

Oh, top tip. The place is really stunning for architecture. Try the following sites:

Vienna City Park for big ferris wheel shown in Bond film and "The Globe" (basically a bloke declared independence from Austria, when they wanted to bulldoze his house in the park. He turned it into a globe, barricaded himself in and printed his own currency/stamps etc.

Food market, lots of cosmopolitan market stalls selling freshly cooked food...

"The Bermuda Triangle"...a triangle of streets full of little bars, that all sell tequila. Basically if u go in one side and drink tequial at every bar all the way round you won"t come out...

Yes, would love to play in this, but just spent all me pennies on a trip to Vegas in May, so unfortunately think this one is a little too expensive.  It"s a shame there weren"t two day 1"s as in season 1 to add a little extra to the prize pool to compensate a little for the extra costs involved in playing.

Shame about this one. I"ve played in every event so far since I joined APAT, but can"t justify paying £300+ for a £75 tourny.....

The flights are just too expensive thanks to a bank holiday weekend :( Students can"t afford to do that and have a car! 8-)

I couldn"t agree more with it being a great tourney at a great venue. I"m just upset that no Scottish Airports offer direct flights. It will be a pricey trip ...

Good that APAT is spreading its wings and venturing into Europe, however it does seem a tricky place to get to and costly too.  Will definitely be giving the online sats a go but I need to win a seat to be able to go I think.  Just paid for Vegas trip in May...

Might have to give a satellite a go myself - just checked the air cost for Caz and I, and it comes to £495.

Nowhere in the North of England flies direct either Neil, bit of a bummer, especially as I"m the worst flyer you"re ever likely to meet.  ;D  4 flights in total, I"ll be a wreck by the time I get home  :o

Finally I have found the reason to moving to Vienna!!!

If you guys need any help with knowing where to go/what to do/other decent poker spots in Vienna then just give me a shout - am always happy to help.

As for the direct buy-in (i"m giving online poker a rest at the moment) do these go pretty quickly or something?

Cheers,

You can get currywurst at any wurststand, and it is rather lovely, especially with horseradish and after 10 beers.

And there are plenty of places to go for a lapdance here. Not speaking from experience but I think its pretty expensive though, not like Prague/Bratislava/Budapest....

I"ve also been to Wiener Neustadt...it looks like a bit of a ****ty city to be honest, very industrial...I drove there and when driving into it was like driving into your bog-standard American small town...

I wouldn"t expect too much party action there to be honest...i"m likely to be driving from Vienna if I can snap up a seat from the direct buy-in page...one thing which I must need to know is...can I pay by Solo Card when registering?

And can I buy-in directly at the casino? If so I might go down there and do it that way...

If anyone is thinking of making a poker trip of it there is also the Concorde Card Casino in Vienna which is really great (am quite suprised they didnt pick this venue to be honest) - you check it out here http://www.ccc.co.at.

Avoid Poker World like the plague though. It"s a nasty nasty place, mafia run, and a lot of dodgy Eastern European expats there. I played thier cash tables once and was about 400 Euros up and got up to leave the table and they all looked at me as if to say "you walk out of here and you won"t be walking again" so I just said I was going to the toilet, then sat back down and donked off my roll asap and then legged it...

But anyway, plenty of things to do in Vienna - a very good Irish Pub in the centre (http://www.shamrock-vienna.at) but i"m only saying that because i"m working there  ;) and if any of you guys would like a ride to the venue if you can"t get a place in Neustadt then i"ll be happy to oblige...

I don"t think they should be allowed to play in the live event.  Whoever it was who won it.

Flights are looking exceedingly expensive.

Although a coach is not a perfect way of getting there I may be able to provisionally offer a coach service departing from the midlands with say a london/heathrow pick up direct to wiener neustadt

Have made a provisional enquiry with a couple of decent quality midland companies and if the quotes look feasable I will put up some details on monday/tuesday next week to see what people think.

Would be prepared to organise it

No promises  at this stage just looking at other options

BA are still doing the following flights for around £155pp

Outbound leaving Heathrow Friday 18:40 arrive Vienna 21:55

Inbound leaving Vienna Monday 11:40 arrive Heathrow 13:15

Looks good value at the moment compared to some other quotes being mentioned on this thread.

Coach sound like a great idea - 40 players on a two day coach drive accross europe. I can see it now - couple of cases of beer - poker on the move - stopping in amsterdam for a convienience break, (toilet of course - dirty minded ppl). Then same on way back singing old folk songs that we picked up there. Count me in - oh and the wife says shes coming along, better scrap that stop in the dam - straight to vienna.

Good luck tonight people.

Actually, that does sound like a good idea, I hate flying.  About thirty players, about 1000 cans of Fosters, one or two bags of Kettle Chips, on a coach with tables so we can have a few Sit n Go"s.  Also one of those fancy ones with beds, no need for a hotel.  I have no sense of smell so the stench won"t be a problem for me.

All good trips abroad should have the potential for disaster, this sounds perfect.  Fear and Loathing in Wiener Neustadt.

Keep me posted if this becomes a realistic idea.

Dan..check out the Poker Royale"s Hotel Page (http://www.pokerroyale.at/58.0.html?&L=1&L=1).

The Hotel Zentral is pretty full right now (only 4 rooms left according to www.booking.com]

The Orange Wings (http://www.orangewings.com/index_en.php) is about the same price and distance away (c. 1mile).

Google Maps will show you where the hotels are (if you put the address in)

Hotel Zentral has some twin rooms available for the weekend @ £58 a night.

Its a non starter.  Average quote would work out around £150 a head provided the coach was full.

2 days travelling.

No alcohol or smoking allowed on coach!!!

I have contacts in the coach game - i will make a few enquiries also. I think £150.00 would be a reasonable price for two days entertainment/poker - but i will look to get that reduced. and i know for a fact that if 50 people told the driver they are drinking - then they are drinking. Smoking we may need to try a bit harder.
If there is still interest at the £150 price mark then i will take up the gauntlet.

My contact thinks he can do it for about £100 a head based on 50 travelling. It would be a manchester departure and possibly going via Hull an the ferry. and maybe one days travelling leaving late Thursday night and arriving Friday afternoon. And coming back late Monday and getting back Tuesday. He is looking for the best route the second option is still manchester departure and stopping in Birmingham to pick up and maybe one other stop south before reaching dover.

They are next to the holdall that is full of poker chips and cards. I am way up for the coach trip, so is the wife (really enjoyed Dublin last year - cant get rid of her now), just need 48 others and we may get this idea off the ground. I am in tonight for the qualifier but i have to organise a game in the pub at the same time, so bear with me.

Looks like I can safely book my flight to arrive at about 10pm in Vienna.  There are buses to WN until just before 1am.

Dan...

To be honest, do you really wanna travel at that time of night (especially by bus)?

My group are mulling over a hotel in Vienna itself, near the train station to WN. (either Wien Südbahnhof or Südtiroler Platz) for the Friday.

Train nice and early in the morning. About 30/40 minutes.

I"m staying in a hotel in WN for the weekend, so I"d rather get there Friday night, get settled in, probably pop over to the casino and say hello to the fellow Brits.  I"m sharing a room as well so the costs will be shared for the room.

The bus/coach over to the WN only takes 30-45 minutes, so that"s not really a hardship.  I"ll be in WN for 11pm (assuming my flight is on time).

Bugger!

Waited until I"d booked the hotel to book the flights.  That wasn"t a good idea, they"ve gone up from £140 return to £190 for the same times.

I"m sure their site has something built into it that monitors your visits and then whacks up the prices if you go back several times in a few days.  Or am I becoming iPoker paranoid...

Just spoken to BA.  They said that the flights going out on the Friday are only going to get more expensive from now on, as it"s Easter weekend.  The outbound flight to Vienna is now well over £100, although the return is still £68.

Saturday morning is cheaper, but I"m not really considering that as an option.  It gets me in at 10am, and I don"t really want to be cutting it that fine.

Looks like the satellite package of $600 won"t be covering the costs of flights and accommodation.

Airport - Wiener Neustadt 45 miles (AutoRoute, fastest route).

45 miles in a Taxi, on a Bank Holiday = Much moolah I reckon.

No help with other questions I"m afraid.

A bit late for me, but i spotted a Ryanair flight from East Midlands going to Bratislava Vienna for £60 + a return on Monday of £30. Just the flight times are late and Bratislava is a bit further away? But hey-more options!  :D

Just to add my twopence worth, I think the train option from england would be a non-starter for most as you are looking at about £250-£300 and that is dependant on what eurostar want to charge you for the privilege, as their prices can fluctuate like the airlines!

If anyone does want to enquire then the best place to get it all booked in one place would probably be this lot

http://www.rail-canterbury.co.uk (http://www.rail-canterbury.co.uk)

as they can do eurostar (to brussels), THALYS (to cologne) and the citynight sleeper (to vienna) and a local connection to Wiener Neustadt. This would be my preferred route, and the way I will be going if I do qualify, as I work for the railway and can get there considerably cheaper than the estimate above.

Another option people might like to look at...

Ryanair Stansted to Graz - 21st to 24th - £162 return (currently).
Flight times are a bit more sociable.

Direct train from Graz - Wiener Neustadt €25 2 hour journey.

Ooohh....thanks for that, I"ll add it to my list of options.

Interesting.

Works out at £118.88 once taxes are added.  That also assumes no hold luggage - which is how I"d be travelling anyway.

Certainly cheaper than £220.

Now need to see how Bratislava to WN works out on the train/coach.

There"s good and bad news on that front.

The coach takes 2 hours from Bratislava to WN.  The bad news, the last connection leaves at 5pm.  The flight lands in Bratislava at 9pm...

No flights out on the Thursday to Bratislava either which would have also been an option...

I am thinking of coming over for this even if I dont qualify online!(close but so far twice now).

Conscious on trying to keep costs down to a minimum.

If I go, I probably will be going out by myself and flying on the saturday morning and leaving early on the monday as need to get back into work. I am likely to be flying on the BA flight from Gatwick.

Firstly, who is any one getting similar flight times and secondly as I am probably going by myself has any one got a double room, so I could split costs and stay in that?

Would appreciate any assistance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Airport to Wien Mitte (Vienna) 15 Euro return 16 mins every half hour
Wien Mitte to Weiner Neustadt - 30 Euro return 40 mins (fairly regular)

Therefore  45 Euros

Taxi ?? no idea but they are probably like every other taxi, prices being negotiable for a long journey. I would think that you would have to have 4 of five to a taxi in order for it to come in at around the same price.. So it"s the trains for me I reckon.

Train from airport to Wien Mitte. Then change train from Wein Mitte to Weiner Neustadt.

I"m not going to this event unfortunately but the people that are going seem to be having problems organising transfers from the airport to the venue.

I don"t know if anyone"s already looked in to this but I usually find that if you"re 20 miles or more from the airport then you"re as well hiring a car.

You can usually book them with your flight and they often work out very cheap especially if you book one between 5 of you. I think you"ll find it works out cheaper than 5 return train tickets and it"s definitely easier and less stressful. They also come in handy for getting between the hotel and the venue and anywhere else you might fancy.

Hope this might help someone. If it does please feel free to buy me a pint at the next regional or national  ;D

No need for transfers - maybe 30 euros for an overnight stop somewhere if you didnt fancy sleeping on the coach. i have told the coach firm to keep it pencilled in until after clickfest - but we have got around 15 people interested - looking for around 35 more.

Come on guys, whats this issue with the airport being 20 miles from the city?

Face it, LHR is further than that to London - as are most of our airports. The airport will have its own airport bus transfers!!!!!!!!!

If you have a decent hotel booked, they usually have their own shuttle service too...

I wouldn"t worry about it. Just sort it when you get there.

OK, I have bitten the bullet and am in. 14:35 from Heathrow on the Friday and 15:05 back on Monday (priced dropped to £215 after spiking at £295 so I decided that was good enough (and I didn"t fancy getting up at 4.30am for a cheaper flight)).

Staying at the Orange Wings place - £30 a night isn"t bad. I assume it"s similar to, but better than, the ETAP in Cardiff.

Hey all,

Have been back in England for the past days so haven"t been able to reply to any of the queries you guys have been having (for those who haven"t seen my previous posts, I have been living in Vienna for about a year now).

Things which I have picked up.

If you can get a coach its not that bad for the craic I guess - and if you have got a coach with a couple of drivers then its definately do-able in a day. I drove here myself when I moved, from Colchester, and could"ve dont it in a day but a) was in a Fiat Cinquecento and b) wasn"t so keen on driving in the dark on the other side of the road. I do mean a full day of driving though - probably about 20 hours I think.

As for getting a taxi from Vienna to Wiener Neustadt. Between 5 of you thats not a bad idea. I don"t think it will be 100 Euros, as I just paid that for a taxi from Vienna to Bratislava (about 70km away). Haggle though if you do decide to go for it (I was offered 150 Euros to begin with then he said 100 Euros afterwards so...)

If you are flying directly to Vienna there is something called the CAT (City Airport Train) which goes regularly from Vienna Airport to Landstrasse U-Bahn (underground) which is on the main Underground line of Vienna. For a return ticket (with 3 days unlimited travel in Vienna) I think its 18 Euros.

Dont worry about speaking the lingo - a lot of people speak English over here (although not very many people over 60...)

For all you smokers - feel free to light up anywhere and everywhere.

Beer is dead cheap. And dead good as well.

If anyone needs a couch to sleep on i"ll have moved apartment by then and am in walking distance of many different amenities.

Any other questions just let me know.

Cheers,
Rich

Oh, forgot to mention that he allows alcohol on the bus - and by trade i am a pub landlord. I got a few cases in the cellar marked up Vienna Coach adventure.

Hi, I have just been fortunate enough to win package in tonights qualifier(Richie Aprille on BSQ) and wondered if this coach option had taken off the ground or not? I live in Birmingham so would be interested. If not, any advice from any fellow Midland travellers would be hugely appreciated as I currently have no APAT friends.... :"( :"( ;D

Ooo ooo can I be you"re friend?!?!?! Can I? Can I huh?!?!?

Well played tonight Richie and also Jeldon for the "nearly" package. Unlucky for the bubble boy Gordon MacArthur, although I gotta say I thought the fourth place finisher was the pick of the table IMO (http://blondepoker.com/forum/smileys/default/whistle.gif)

The bus would be great craic if it gets off the ground (hmmm, that probably applies more to the plane?!). Quite a few have already booked flights with a lot leaving Heathrow Friday lunch, returning Monday teatime on British Airways flight BA0704/BA0701. I would imagine this is very expensive now if it"s not full. But if you were to find yourself on it, you"re welcome to get a lift down to Heathrow if you can get over to Leicester, for a share of the petrol money!

I have found a flight from Birmingham to Vienna for £202,although I haven"t read anywhere else on this thread about anyone travelling from Birmingham? So if coach is a non-starter it makes sense to get that rather than travel to London via Leicester although I will give you half the petrol money regardless like any true friend would... :D

Right - 9pm - Clickfest.

How many UK-based APATers do you think will be going? The sats have been fairly poorly subscribed, is that due to not many wanting to go or did they not want to add unnecessary expense to an already (relatively) expensive weekend?

My guess - 67 entrants tonight and 94 to finally make the trip.

I think this is called idle speculation  :)

I have just purchased a ticket for this on APAT.com but under condition seven it states the following:

"7) All seat purchases will be pre-authorised. This means that no seats will have been paid for, until APAT processes each transaction. This will ensure that APAT does not sell more seats than are available at the venue. Getting a sales receipt is not a guarantee of a seat."

For instance if I (in a hurry to register) incorrectly entered my card details would it have still gone through regardless and the mistake therefore only be recognised when APAT process the transaction, decline it, then offer my seat to someone else? Or do they contact you to arrange an alternate means of payment therefore offering you a few days to correct your card details?

Thanks.

Tonight I turned into the Clickfest Cretin.

First I entered the wrong card type - not once - oh no! I had to go and do it three times! Then, when I finally get the right type, it tells me I"ve made too many attempts - what am I - Nick Leeson?!?!?

Then I sit here brooding thinking I"m going to have to watch everybody else play in Vienna when my mate reminds me I can try another card!!!

Finally get it sorted at 9:20 - Des please put me out of my misery....

Should have a confirmed price for the coach tomorrow, he has confirmed that ideally we should need about 40 people - leaving 9 seats free for poker playing room and beer storage. I have around 6 people that are up for it - although it is only me that is playing (unless they quickly become APAt members and buy a seat). We are looking at around £100 - £150 pp all in. If you are interested please keep an eye on the forum for the prices or email me jsteele223@btinternet.com.
We are leaving manchester and can do a pickup in the midlands - somewhere on the way to london and south of on the way to Dover. This is a definate as if we dont get enough APAT members for the seats on the coach, i will be running it as a pub trip from my boozer.
See you all in Vienna

return - ferry fees and tolls, fuel etc. still have to book hotel in vienna. we will state pickups once we know where everyone is coming from, probably a services on the motorway. once we get the price confirmed we can see how much it costs per head, the more we get the cheaper per person.i would still be happy to go if there were 30 of us to be honest, adds a bit of criac to the trip instead of a boring flight and airport transfers, worrying if bags will be there - getting ripped off by some local cabby. i will keep u informed

Hello APATers... What is still surprising is that the link is still available, which could only mean that the tourney has not been sold out... Oh what the hell, I"m in...

Below are my travel and hotel details and would love the company to listen to bad beats and vice a versa or even a heads up play on the flight...or even share cab fares to Heathrow or even to Wiener Neustadt

LHR - VIE BA0706 DEPART@18:40 ARRIVE AT 21:55
VIE - LHR BA0705 DEPART@18:50 ARRIVE AT 20:25

Staying at the Orange Wings ( when booking mention that you are here for the poker tournament and you will get the room for Euros 39 a night)....

Good luck to everyone who is coming....

Staying at the Orange Wings too.

Don"t know whether anyone has already posted, but the link below is for train services in English.  Direct trains available from the Airport to Wiener Neustadt.

Actually, I think you will find that there aren"t direct trains.

IIRC, you have to take the Aiport City Train into Vienna, transfer to the Subway and get to either Südbahnhof or Südtiroler Platz station.

Here are a couple of hotel ideas, that has numerous APAT bookings.

Rudolf Diesel-Straße 32
2700 Wr. Neustadt
+43(0)664-3963911
www.orangewings.com

Hotel Zentral
Hauptplatz 27
2700 Wr. Neustadt
+43(0)2622-23169
www.hotel-zentral.tos.at

Flights should be into Vienna International, which is about 30kms from the venue.

Train from airport to Wien Mitte. Then change train from Wein Mitte to Weiner Neustadt.
Map of train links from Vienna: http://www.schnellbahn-wien.at/download/grossraum.pdf

Think it is the S9 (510) from/to Wein Mitte to Weiner Neustadt:  timetable attached here:

bumped my previous entry to here in case anyone is interested in the train times etc from Vienna Airport to Vienna and then on to Wiener Neustadt.

Good news, I have just seen on the BBC News Website that the BA pilots have confirmed that they will not be striking over Easter.

Bit of a relief as all the reports were suggesting that they were targeting Easter for industrial action.

Some important informations to those staying at the Orange Wings:

While it is a nice basic and clean hotel (I stay there every time I go to the Royale) you should be aware that there is

- no hairdryer and no shampoo/soap in the bathroom ... so you better bring your own.

- The counter is open only for a few hours a day. You can check in electronically but you need a creditcard AND your booking ID for that process.

- Some rooms are equipped with a combinded TV/Computer (that also connects to the internet). If you bring your Laptop you can use the cable from the computer for your own Laptop. Some rooms have no computer. In that case they have no cable, too. So if you bring your Laptop don"t forget the network cable. Internet access is free (and usually is down for about 2 hours late night 2-4am for whatever reason)
No wireless internet!

- Breakfast is basic but o.k. (but it"s not included in the room price)

- There"s a McDonalds not too far (which also has breakfast till 11 or so). Beside that there"s not much around as the hotel is in an industrial area of Wiener Neustadt.

- The hotel has a small machine that has some drinks (like coke and water) and chocolate, chips and that stuff.

- If you are on public transport you have to travel into Vienna and from there to Wiener Neustadt with a regular train as said before. From the Main Station in Wiener Neustadt there"s a bus (I think it"s called "Linie G") that stops directly at the hotel (Stop is called "Arena Nova"). This Bus runs only every 30 min. and there"s no service on Sundays!

Hope this helps

We"re all in the Hotel Zentral and we were planning on taking the train into Wiener Neustatdt, perhaps after a meal in Vienna.

Hello!

I am new to this forum and was delighted that APAT comes to the Poker Royale.
As a Player from Vienna, it is a kind of homegame for me.  ;)

I preregistered (Transaction ID: 19818005) and maybe someone can tell me, if I caught a seat?  :)

Kind Regards,
Markus

Hi Markus and welcome to APAT. Look forward to perhaps meeting you next weekend.

As a local you may be able to answer the big question - how much is the beer in the casino?

Hi technolog!

Well,  I´ve not been many times to the Poker Royale as we have a great card casino in Vienna aswell, but I think the price for a beer is around 3,50 €.

I have another question...do I get an email with confirmation that I ve got a seat or do I just print out the pre-authorisation confirmation and take it with me to the casino?

Kind regards,
Markus

I signed up at the Poker Royale directly ... do we get any information/confirmation (time table etc.) from the organiser?

As far as I know the event starts at 2:30pm. When should we arrive there?
Any other things to know upfront?

Thanks

Video updates and interviews with a number of the players will become a new addition to our live updates over the weekend from Vienna.

In addition we hope to feature a gallery of player images within the first post on the Vienna thread, which will continually update.  If you want a chipcount on any of those players, click a pic and include their image number in your request.

Technology allowing that is.

Richard Prew is on that flight, he posted a similar request to yours on the previous page Jeldon.

Rich - Diablo is Jeldon, who took bronze in Cardiff.

Yes and erm, yes.  We will put a note out later this evening but there will be no surprises....get to the venue before 2.30pm Saturday, be relatively sober, don"t give your credit card to strangers.....the usual stuff.

Hello again!

I am a little bit confused with the starting time of the tournament.
Did anyone from APAT considered the time difference?

On your site it says the tourney starts at 2.30 pm, but on the site of the Poker Royale it says it is 2.30 aswell.
I am not sure, but when a football match in the UK kicks off at 3 pm, it is 4 pm in Austria.

I have no problem with waiting an hour...but maybe some other local players will be annoyed.

Maybe you can check this out.

Another question....APAT says no football tops...am I allowed to wear football/baseball cap? Cant play with my cap.  ;D

Kind Regards,
Markus

Anyway...confirmation would be nice.

thanks.

The tournament starts at 2.30pm CET, so 1.30pm UK time.  The baseball hat should be fine and it is easy to remove if the casino would rather you not wear it.

Arrived yesterday (so did Ironside minus his luggage  ;D ) went to the poker room last night with a few more APATers and had a few drinks (under duress of course) and a couple of S&G"s, everything was fine especially the spare ribs. Funny thing though I went to register at the desk and she looked at me like I had two heads -- ergo no need to register.

See you there this afternoon
