Title: ECOAP International Team Captains
Post by: Des on May 14, 2012, 18:17:15 PM
The European Amateur Team Championship will take place on the opening and second day of the ECOAP.

The list of competing countries is being finalised and APAT would like to hear from players who would be interested in captaining their country at this event.

Captains can select a panel of four or five players to compete at the European Amateur Team Championship, to include the leading English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland finishing players in the current National Online League.  Captains can also chose to be playing or non playing.

The entry fee per player for the event will be £100 + £10 and there will be a fee for two international shirts of around £30.

Players interested in applying for the role of International Captain should pm me their details on the following link.  Message Des (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1).

No Grant

Money is tight at the moment, so when you add the travelling and hotel costs then I would have to make the final 6 to make a profit. I know theses weekends are not just about the poker but when money is tight then I have to stop at home. Plus I"m playing absolutely crap at the moment. Going to a local casino to try and play my way out of it. £20 game with a 3k+ for first place

Cool, cheers mate.

Whilst I am normally an avid follower of the advice given in Travel Tips, in Nottingham I just tend to stay in the Premier Inn as it"s a perfect location. You can walk to DTD if the weather is nice and a taxi back is nice and cheap.

I just booked it arriving on 25th and leaving on 28th with breakfast for £185 (prepaid). That will do nicely :-)

The travel tips for Cork on the other hand I will most certainly be referring too.

EDIT: Whilst we are there is there any chance of "APAT: The Cash Game". It has been mentioned in the past and there was a suggestion of doing it at DTD. If there is enough interest maybe we could ask DTD for a table?

Not bad deal if you want breakfast, which I usually don"t, as I"m usually...ahem...delicate in the morning.

I"ve got the Holiday Inn for 2 nights at £38 a night (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=11165.msg179237#msg179237) (Fri / Sat) and then PI for £39 a night (Sun / Mon).

Tips coming up now that I have mine booked.  ;D

Title: ECOAP European Team Selection
Post by: Des on June 13, 2012, 10:22:40 AM
Just to confirm the team selection process to captain"s and anyone else who is interested.

The captain"s of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will each pick their leading player from the National Online League, which finishes this weekend.

None of the other international teams will be required to do this.

Each captain can submit a squad of either four or five players for the Championship.  However, only a maximum of four players will be eligible to play in any one phase of the ECOAP European Amateur Team Championship.  Captains can chop and change which of their four players they wish to use for each phase of the event.

So for example, if a captain submits a five player squad to include players a, b, c, d and e.  He may chose to play:-

Phase 1 - NLHE Sit & Go - players a, b, d, e

Phase 2 - PLO Sit & Go - players b, c, d, e

Phase 3 - HU - players a, c

Phase 4 - HU - players a, d

Phase 5 - MTT - players a, c, d, e

Captains will not be required to specify which players are playing which phase until just before each phase starts.

If captains have any questions, please post them here.

The format will be exactly as per last year"s WCOAP Steve and we"ll try and confirm the points allocation during the month.  Expect something similar to the WCOAP, with perhaps a little less emphasis on the final MTT.

OK understood re points, but.... if format is exactly the same as last WCOAP, then surely two rounds of NLHE STT, rather than the one listed in OP, right?

From the last WCOAP thread, the format was...

Quote

Day One

2:30pm 7 x 8 handed NLHE STT
5:30pm 7 x 8 handed PLO STT
9:00pm 35 x HU Matches (To be run back to back)

Day Two

2:30pm 7 x 8 handed NLHE STT
6:00pm 56 Runner MTT (9 handed tables)

Am trying to consider best format for team selection and dynamics, hence being picky - it makes a difference....

The entry fee per player for the event will be £100 + £10 and there will be a fee for two international shirts of around £30.

Des - If a captain selects five players, will the team be required to pay 5 x £100 + £10 as they will have the advantage of an additional player ?

Secondly, if a team with five players finishes in a medal position, will that team be awarded five medals ?

Des - are you able to confirm yet how points will be scored in each event please?

Also, is there definitely only one round of NLHE STT? I seem to remember there were two rounds in the previous championship...

The OP was used to demonstrate an example of how 5 players might be utilised across the phase types, not an example of the running order of the phases.  Apols for any confusion.  ;)

Bear in mind that in a team of 5, one person will always be sat out, so the team"s actual contribution to the poker will only ever be 4 players..... therefore, the cost should be £400 + £40 for the team, which is £110 each in a 4 person team, and £88 each in a five person team.

I asked the question because I still haven"t decided whether to include a 5th player. If that player is playing for free then it would make sense to bring in a PLO or a HU specialist just for that event. Is that fair ?

True..but that team of 5 has the advantage of depth...so they should pay more for that advantage.

Exactly.

I disagree completely Paulie. It"s a team competition, and every team will have the same number of players in each round - four, and can only score the same number of points per round as every other team.  One player from a team of five will always be excluded during each round. So, why should one team therefore contribute more to the overall prizepool than another team?

It"s more likely that the Eng, Ire, Wal, Sco, teams will have five players whilst other teams have four, due to the mandate to pick the highest scoring online league player.
Title: Re: ECOAP European Team Selection
Post by: Des on June 13, 2012, 15:45:13 PM
Yes, I"m with Steve on this.  Every team has the option of naming a squad of 5 if they wish, however we won"t require them to have 5.  4 players can only contribute at any one point and for that reason the entry fee per team is £400 + £40.

As I recall the highest scoring player is guaranteed a place...not that they will play.

I think the number of players per round are irrelevant..if you have a deeper squad you have an advantage over those who DON"T have a team of 5.

I suppose, in an ideal world, it would make sense for every team to field of squad of 5 but that wasn"t the mandate.

EDIT: However, Des has spoken. :)

A little irrelevant really. Wouldn"t be very fair to have someone end up being the highest scoring player, get a "place" in the squad, turn up at DTD having paid hotel and travel costs, and then not get a game.

it would only seem fair that if 5 players take part and the team reach medal positions that each player should receive a medal as they will have all paid similar amount for entry fee and hotel etc

Here are answers to a few questions that are likely to come up :-

If you missed APAT's announcement about the new cardroom, have a read here (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=11536.0)

Buyin is only available through the new APAT cardroom that you can download by clicking the banner.

(http://www.apat.com/images/apat_banner_pcuk.jpg) (http://www.apat.com/index.php/download/)

Buyin is in Euros, but payouts on the day at DTD will be in GBP.  An exchange rate will be fixed nearer the time, which will also provide us with a GBP buyin for any alternates on the day.

Satellite winners will automatically be entered into the target tournament.

Satellites will continue to run each week for upto 4 weeks, although APAT reserves the right to withdraw satellites should the holding tanks reach capacity or there is a lack of demand for satellites.

Players can win multiple satellite seats.  Additional seats will be paid out as Tournament Credits.

Players can buyin to the holding tank and then win a subsequent satellite.  They will be credited Tournament Credits.  If they unregister from the holding tank, they will get the cash back, and can then use the Tournament Credits to re-enter.

Holding tanks will close on Thursday 16th August at 9pm.  After that date, any players wishing to make amendments to registration need to utilise the APAT Seat Exchange Board (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?board=37.0)

Holding tanks are capped at - Main Event (200), Stud (54), 6Max (108), PL Omaha (108)

The first set of satellites are now available in the poker lobby.

Quickest way to find them is :-

Multi Tourneys > Click on Tournament to sort alphabetically

APAT Tourneys should be at the top of the list

If you can"t see them, please check your tourney filters first

The existing card room was Euros, which is the network norm, therefore ECOAP buyin needed to reflect this.  As I"ve mentioned, all payouts at DTD will be in GBP, and entry for the team event will be in GBP at DTD on the day.

For the main event, yes there will, although feel free to try and satellite in or buyin direct if you have the chance, as it makes it far easier to deal with than having to hold back seats to buyin on the day.

There may be the odd spare seat on the day, and there certainly will be alternates lists for the main event, 6max and PLO, but the APAT cardroom is the only way to guarantee a seat prior to the event.

Hi David,

The Welsh team are two times World Amateur Team Champions and Home International Champions and I believe their team is picked for this event.  Getting some good results in this Championship and others will help you to get noticed for the international team events.

Anyone know how to resolve this irritating view.

+1

Drag and drop them.  Close the box and grab the "line" with yer mouse and drag it to wherever ya like on screen.

Missed this when I made my post earlier.

Yes, you can move these boxes out of the way.  Still cant see top of cards even with box scrolled up

Also, you can choose a favourite seat to sit in by clicking the ghostly white seat icon to the bottom right of the screen (above the auto action check boxes).
That solves it ty Matt

Yep sorted it, thanks Matt

Shrink the box to a thin line then drag and drop the line

locked out player support not very good with Ioana very patronising, looks like i put the wrong pasword in to start with but after that and the code 202 telling me to contact support then support telling me to ask for a new password then the password did not work and locked again after i spent over a hr telling them the problem but they just keep saying ask for a new pasword
had them telling me they are only there to advise and cant put the password for me
had them telling me that the password sure does work
had them telling me to  i should ask for a password then leave it a bit b4 i try to log in , i asked how long a bit was they said  5/10 mins, then to be told i did not have to leave it 5/10 mins and just try and log in

At the end they passed it on to someone who was going  to email me not had anything all night will just wait and see what happens and when lol  ::)

37 minutes of late reg remains. 25 runners taking part at the moment. The average stack is only 2160 (starting stack 1500) and it"s a rebuy, so you won"t be at any disadvantage (if you rebuy immediately, you"ll actually have an above-average stack :))

ah, the old click fest days. Yes you had to type in all your details very fast because seats snapped up.  However, the canny ones had details ready to copy and paste from a word doc courtesy of sage advice from Kinboshi.

Then there was the hold breathe stage to see if the transaction actually went through ;-)

Well that would have been a pain. I have a security check on my account and have to type in additional stuff. Lucky I hated Blue Square so point blank refused to play until they got replaced. They went away in Season 4 after I started playing and seats became much easier to get. I assume that is due to the vast increase in the level of competition :-p

Sorry I am sure this question has already been answered but I can"t find it.

The PLO tournament, if somebody makes day two of the main event, not that I am planning on it, but some people probably will. Are we able to unregister for the PLO. I have currently bought in via the online software but might unregister and just buyin when I bust the main if I am not able to do so at DTD. Seems the best option.

Also out of interest, don"t think this has been asked why has the WCOAP been moved from it"s normal place to April and effectively replaced by this. Just wondered that all :-)

Based on previous experience, you can unreg at DTD and they refund you in cash. If not, PLO usually sells out and you can sell your seat onsite to the next "alternate".

I wouldn"t unreg from the PLO if you want to play it just hoping to buy-in on the day. As I said, PLO has always proved popular so you might not get in.

I know that an August WCOAP festival would clash with a certain LARGE tournament elsewhere and could pull players away from APAT's premier event.

Of course, the August BH at DTD is too good an opportunity to pass up (for both APAT & DTD) so the slightly smaller ECOAP festival is a nice alternative.

That"s what I thought when I saw the schedule in February but Des will, no doubt, blow my thinking out of the water.

I would say you"re pretty close on the money there.  In addition, I like the thought of having the WCOAP as the final event of the season, it"s something to retain everyone"s interest right to the end.

It will be the same as previous years Steve. Players will be able to sell the seat to someone else at DTD as opposed to unregistering.  APAT will already have sent the prize money to the club and DTD will have resourced the events based on our numbers, hence this methodology.

It will be the same as previous years Steve. Players will be able to sell the seat to someone else at DTD as opposed to unregistering.  APAT will already have sent the prize money to the club and DTD will have resourced the events based on our numbers, hence this methodology.

Cool, Cheers Des

Had a bit of "run good" in the satellite... right upto the point when we got HU.

In 193 hands... AA 3 times, KK twice, QQ 3 times, AKo twice and flopped 3 sets with smaller pairs.

Hello everyone, just a quick question:

Is there a maximum on the number of entrants allowed for the ECOAP European Amateur Poker Championship tournament starting on the 26th of August?

I should be able to play but would prefer to register later so this information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Just a couple of questions if this info is decided on yet?

What time are the events starting?

What are the starting stacks and clock for each event ?

Booked in for all 4 barring a long run in the Goliath.

ME stack is 15000 with 45 minute levels - Starting time usually 2.30pm

Side Events: Not sure of stacks and levels (but these are usually generous) - Starting time usually 3.00pm

.

I believe the maximum for the ME is 200.

This isn"t the WCOAP but I think (at least I think I recall) they trialled an increase from 10k to 15k then. This worked so they adopted it for S6.

At the Stud side game at G Luton a little while back, both said "experts", messers Pablar and Dai da Destroyer gave me a few pointers prior to the off. After an hour I had about 10% less than my starting stack and the aforementioned "experts" were both out. So no, I guess it isn"t a real game after all. ;) :o

Hi everybody! I am very sad I cannot be part of the European Festival this summer. Lot of great teams lined up again this year. Would have loved to be part of it. Good luck to everyone and be sure I"ll come back for gold in March at The World Championship! #silversilvereverywherebutneverenoughgold

Be careful with the French team this year, you are not dealing with "The Unbluffables" this time and the HU may last longer than one single hand :P

For the WCOAP, we were sold out in advance in all events.  The only direct buyins at DTD were alternates and the odd last minute seat exchange.

I would expect a similar situation for the ECOAP with seats getting snapped up before the holding tanks close.

Late reg. is only active if more than 6 players start the tournament.

Otherwise, e.g. if only 2 players started, someone could wait until one of the players has hardly any chips left and then register and be heads up.

The team event is invite only.

Friday - Stud Side Event
Saturday - 6 Max Side Event
Sunday - Main Event Day 1
Monday - Main Event Day 2 / PL Omaha Side Event

Only clash is going to be if you make Day 2 of the Main Event, but if you go out early on Day 2, you may still get into the PLO as an alternate for 3 levels, or you as still in the Main Event, in which case you are probably in the money.   ;D

Been away in hols, moving house etc so not sure but...

Any seats left for this or am I too late?

Assume it"s Saturday day1a, Sunday day 1b Monday final day?

Day 1 is Sunday, Day 2 is Monday. No Day one A and B it is a two day event, not 3. Saturday is 6-Max and Monday is PLO.

Yes there is still plenty of space in all the holding tanks

Are any events likely to overlap?  As well as the Team event, I was looking at playing the individual main event, 6 max and Omaha.

The team event is invite only.

Friday - Stud Side Event
Saturday - 6 Max Side Event
Sunday - Main Event Day 1
Monday - Main Event Day 2 / PL Omaha Side Event

Only clash is going to be if you make Day 2 of the Main Event, but if you go out early on Day 2, you may still get into the PLO as an alternate for 3 levels, or you as still in the Main Event, in which case you are probably in the money.   ;D

Thanks.  That kinda rules out both then, I"ve had my place on Team Scotland confirmed.

It"s looking quite tight on numbers, but any spare capacity will be sold at DTD on the day, along with an alternate list for the first three levels.

Hi Zozzy, as the last qualifier your name will be entered into the Holding tank by midday tomorrow.

You can see the holding tanks under Multi Tourney > Special in the APAT Poker Software.

Yeah you won"t have a problem I would think.  When you come to play the Stud, make sure you buy in for the Omaha at that time.

Anyone else not seeing the Hoding Tank in the client any more?  I registered a few weeks back, and as far as I know, it was under Multi Tourney - Private, or Multi Tourney Special.  The APAT ECOAP is not showing up for me now.

If you can see it, I would be grateful if you would post exact instructions, in case i am doing something stupid.  (I checked that I do not have filters on).

Thanks.

The holding tanks have now been taken down so that we can transfer funds and player details to DTD ready for next week.

We will be publishing a player briefing and full player lists over the next few days on the forum.

Does this mean I can contact DTD and buy-in over the phone prior to the weekend.  Can almost certainly make it now but don"t want to drive down to find no places.

Hi Leigh, just a quick question.. Will there be no antes at any level of the six max side event?.. Not that it matters much to me as I never usually reach antes in a full ring tourney..

I"ve copied the same structure as we used for the WCOAP last year.  That"s not to say that there weren"t antes, and in fact it was just missed off the structure that got posted up here.

I will double check with DTD and post up if antes have been missed off.

I understand the issues with the vagueries (is that even a word?) of the exchange rate, but...

I really feel that the direct buy-in cost should be at least as much as that paid by those who have committed their funds for the last month or so.

We have an exchange rate from the bank for the funds from Euros into GBP.  We also have a commitment to DTD in the reg fees for both the main event and side events.

At the end of all that, with the £92 + £10 buyin, APAT are sticking in 37p per player.  Not an ideal scenario and it all adds up, but in future, we will try not to be so spot on with the Euro buyin figure and will give it a little more slack to account for rate movements.  That will ultimately mean slightly higher GBP buyins, but then there can be no complaints.

As I said, I realise there are ForEx issues and I realise that the juice needs to be a fixed amount.

But the direct buy-in amount is surely down to APAT to set and I assume that the £92 is a function of the exchange rate when the funds were withdrawn.

What would be good would be for a record to be kept of Webdollar"s daily exch rate from the when the seats go on sale until the holding tanks close. The direct buy-in amount could then be set to match the highest GBP amount that anyone who has pre-registered would have paid.
