The battle lines are drawn, the stage is set, the beer is the fridge and the Parma is in the deep fryer...the only question remaining for so many, is...
WHEN!?
Preferred dates please.
Paulie_D : Name it...and I"m in like flynn.
-
I would be up for this.
Can I suggest that somebody like Phil or Stu confirm a good time from the point of view of the guy"s up in Stockton as it needs to be suitable to them, and we can kind of go from there.
Also if they could recommend a decent cheap hotel near to whatever casino we decide to go and play in that would also be good.
-
We play our homegame on a Thursday, so nights around there are best i think :)
There are a few hotels in the area, which i am sure Paulie will be far better at telling you about than me.
The casino we frequent is the G casino Stockton.

I here they have just declared Def Con 4 in Yarm
Oh and Holdy, don"t worry, I would not have thought they have fire extinguisher"s in Yarm. It would be far more dangerous than not having them !!!!!!
-
I"m not sure how the Thursday night home game would cope
-
Oh my... ;D
I have a double and 2 single rooms here.. of which I"ll pinch Anna"s.. so double and a single for anyone who bribes me enough.. and isnt afraid of dogs.. fish.. and guinea pigs (who are coming back after my trip to Vegas.. yip.. finally had to admit I was home) x
-
Ooooo can i dibs/name in hat for a room?
Bribes you say .... damn, errrrr lots of drinks bought for you, will cook breakfast, and bring chocolate hobnobs ;D
If rooms go can I bag space on living room floor with my super dooper blow up bed (although in this case cooked brekky does not apply) :P
;D ;D ;D
-
I"m not sure how the Thursday night home game would cope
We coped with Ger...
We can play at G for £2 each self deal, or £5 each dealer dealt.
At either cost we get the services of the best damned valet in existence. The legendary Duane/Dwayne who will keep up with even the most dedicated of drinkers.
If I have a reasonable bink at DTD this weekend I"ll pay for dealers, it"s a tradition I"m happy to be establishing :)
-
Date Suggestions:
I"m pretty open but after ChezgerFest would be better.
Perhaps early October...say Thursday 4th / Friday 5th October and get out of everyone"s hair on Saturday or Sunday?

Joobs and I are looking at if we can get time off for a Thurs-Sun visit...
-
Every time I check this thread it gets more epic :)
OK.. as I said before I have a double and a single free round mine, however as people are talking making it a long weekend its only free on the Thursday as I have mini TC staying with me on the Friday night and during the say Saturday.. so can put people up Thursday night / Saturday night and Sunday if you"re staying that long.
Just drop me a PM.
Paulies hotel list... The premier inn listed is the closest to Yarm.. however there is another at Whitewater Way, Thornaby which maybe closer to the Casino but further away from Yarm.. its situated next to a white water rafting center (bookable if anyone fancies) and is generally prettier. Depends if you like pretty and near the river or the other one.. which is next to the A66 and a roundabout.. but yes it is closer to the pubs before you ask. Taxi rides away though both of em.
In Eaglescliffe which is just outside of Yarm I would say the Parkmore would be my pick, or the other side of Yarm is a place called Tall Trees which I think Ger stayed at one night last time.. he got a VIP deal somehow..
Parkmore and Tall Trees have pools and all that. to be fair I cant really give reviews as I live here :P I did stay at the Claireville Hotel once when I was younger but thats another story. Can"t say I was overally impressed with the place back then though.
Yarm itself I believe does now have a BnB but not sure of rates and what its like. But its bang in the highstreet near all the pubs / bars / restaurants etc.
For those of you not familiar with Yarm heres a digital tour thingy with clickable map

Tall Trees looks to be c.£65 a night.
Via LR or Booking.com
A B&B on Booking.com is The Field View B&B c.£60 a night also
The B&B in the High Street looks to be the Yarm Guest House (http://www.yarmguesthouse.com/)...not sure about the pricing as yet.
They QUOTE £35pp inc breakfast but my GUESS is that"s based on 2 sharing.

All I can say here is you get what you pay for.. to be honest the Stockton West one is OK, pub next door is a brewers fayre jobby which my mam bless her loves going to for the fish and chips haha. But its right next door to the A66 roundabout and an industrial estate with car garages and the like. Taxi ride anywhere really.
Tall Trees is a really nice place, full amenities etc, in its own grounds. Staggerable into Yarm I"d say.. but its a looooong stagger. Taxi really.
High street one.. never stayed there but its bang in the middle of it all and will save you on Taxi fairs. But its just someones house by the looks thats converted.
Can"t think of anywhere else really.. other than Crathorne hotel (in its own 15 acres etc.. 2-3 mins taxi north of Yarm).. but you"ll be looking at 150 per night there I"d reckon x
-
Isn"t there then cottage things near the fox covert pub as well Phil?

You know that phone call last night that we couldn"t really hear? Well it was Curly and he was asking about cottages.. spooky!
There"s these as the other side of Yarm..

Not sure how many can fit in at a time though x

They look great....looks like they might be weekly jobbies but perhaps a group deal for Thu - Sun could be done for a group.
Utility Bills - There is no charge for heating, electricity or gas.
Servicing - The properties are serviced on a weekly basis. Fresh towels and bed linen are provided.
Restrictions - Sorry, we don´t allow smoking or pets in the properties.
Visitors - Only people named at the time of booking may use the amenities or stay in the cottages. If you want to use the property for a reunion, family party or any other social event involving more than four visitors please mention this at the time of booking.
Car Parking - There is plenty of car parking spaces around the cottages and undercover in the old barn.
Curly,,,,you"re up.

Yeah - I mean I get there will be taxi costs as well but they would have to be pretty expensive to beat this especially if there are a few of us there.
The the moment this looks like the way to go imo.
Cottages don"t look bad either, they just don"t look cheap
-
Probably 7-10 pounds from yarm to Stockton I would imagine in a taxi. Between a few of you it"s not bad at all.
-
Judges ftw
http://www.judgeshotel.co.uk/
Those cottages by the Fox Covert were used by some of the guests at Tessa"s wedding, as was the one up by Yarm Station (can"t recall names)
I"m pretty sure that the ones by Fox Covert will be open to some haggling - Tessa"s bff and kids and mum stayed there and bff"s dad has used it a lot. Damned certain they won"t have paid listed prices
-
I"m going to stick my hands up and admit that I"m really torn about Thursday. I mean, I"d love to do the Homegame thing at the G but £50 for a Premier Inn room is a bit beyond me at the moment.
As I mentioned to some / many in Nottingham, I"m blowing out Glasgow due to financial constraints (it"ll be one of few APATs I"ve missed in 6 years...and that hurts more than you"ll know) and now Yarm is looking like it might break me.
Oh, I can do c.£30 a night for Friday & Saturday (hell even Sunday) but that extra £50...I don"t think so.
Travelling
Feck...I think the train makes the only sense...I could drive it (and I prefer driving) for about the same as the train ticket but the car would be essentially unused whilst I"m there.
According to Trainline, I think I can do there and back for about £40 each way (two singles).
So, what the hell am I telling you this tale of woe for...just asking...is there any possibility of moving the game to Friday night?
Yours affectionately,
Paulie D.

Just had a look on my Trainline app to see how much you might save by getting off at Darlington and getting a lift from one of us.
Imagine my surprise to see that if you get the 11.23 from Kings Cross and just end your journey at Darlington the fare is £111.20, but if you continue on another train and make the journey longer, the fare is £23.60
How much do they expect you to spend in the Buffet while you wait for the connection?
-
Frankly, £30 each way (although I have to get those EXACT trains) is a bargain for me.
Not that I didn"t consider the Open Return for £90+ or the 1st Class (again on exact trains) for £85 but I decided that if I"m going to claim financial hardship it would be somewhat (OK, massively) hypocritical to indulge myself that way.
I may be a hypocrite but I try not to be one in public. :)

More research shows Chester to Darlington (1 change) return for £42 - sooooo can some lovely person pick me up from Darlington on Thursday ?

I shall be arriving into Darlington @ 13.19 on Thursday and leaving Darlington on Sunday @ 12.26, which is 11 mins earlier than Ger on both occasions. (not sure if this is a schoolboy error or not at this stage ::))
On Thursday I shall fall down in Chez TC (many thanks) and on Friday and Saturday I shall fall down in the Premier Inn Stockton West.
In between times I anticipate being slighty squiffy for most of the time. :D :P :-\ :-*

Glad this has all been sorted.
As i am working, i am gonna get my boss to give me 7-4 word thursday, friday off, saturday 7-4, sunday off. I think this is optimal for drinking purposes.
Although 7am on saturday will hurt...

hmmmmm well yes cool
Where"s Stockton?
It"s a small market town nr the thriving metropolis which is Yarm.
Stockton has the advantage of not being Middlesbrough. It is the home of the inventor of the safety match, and is one end of the first ever passenger railway in the world.
Yarm has the advantage of being neither Middlesbrough, nor Stockton. It is a place of contrasts. By day, genteel and full of shops that make you say "HOW MUCH!?", by night...
In Bryan Robson"s time as manager of Middlesbrough FC Yarm High Street was reported to be the training ground for the club.
Yarm was where the money met to agree to build that first passenger railway. Which they made damned sure wouldn"t run through the town by building a little bridge over the place...

Where"s Stockton?
It is where the Stock Massive live. That is all that is important.
In truth, very few of the Massive actually live in Stockton. TC, Stu, The Rock are all Yarmites (you either love "em or hate "em), Bri is Middlesbrough, Gary P is Norton (tbf that is posh Stockton), Gary M is Eaglescliffe (again that"s posh Stockton).
Lucy and I have the errrrm "privilege" of living in the town, but neither of us were born here.

So...who"s actually going? I can get the time off and am thinking about it but Joobs is a no sadly, she has to work :(

It is amazing how many people miss the R out of my name. I"d say 1 in 3 do, which considering the size of my "R"s" is surprising ;)

I shall be arriving into Darlington @ 13.19 on Thursday and leaving Darlington on Sunday @ 12.26, which is 11 mins earlier than Ger on both occasions. (not sure if this is a schoolboy error or not at this stage ::))
Perfect can save a taxi fare and pick you both up.
Arrive EAG @ 14.04
Should give me enough time to get back from Darlington.. drop off at pub. Come pick you up Paulie (and Michelle if you"re there).
Have numbers.. any delays / problems let me know and visa versa x
hmmmmm well yes cool
Del.. spare room here on Saturday night if you"re staying that long mate x
If you must.........

If you stay at Castle Bridge Marina, it"s only a pleasant stroll to DTD along the canal from the Waters Edge pub, as James Barber, Michelle Gascoigne and I found out on the Monday afternoon.
I dunno, people missing letters off your name and adding letters into mind ... pft

Yep, mine arrived at the office this morning.
£59.60 return....priceless.
I filled the car up this morning...£80. Ouch. Glad I"m not driving it now.

Can"t recall if you pay for postage, but the last few times I"ve bought via The Trainline I"ve picked the tickets up at the station from the machine which is definitely free and avoids the risk of forgetting them/losing them

As I recall, the postage was free...oh and Cash Back through Quidco (http://www.quidco.com/home/)on The Trainline (1.5% which basically covers their fee) and Premier Inn (5%).
I prefer to have the tickets in my hand...I"m quite organised...apparently.

Sigh, not going to make that weekend. Checked in work today (was sure I was not working that one) I am in on that Saturday.
Never mind - enjoy yourselves and all that :-(

Yeah, fair to say I was not best pleased about it, but what you gonna do? Will attempt to find a solution, but unlikely to be able too on this occasion sadly.
Will have to catch you in Glasgow instead.

We are currently assembling the ranks of the massive in preparation for the invasion. Overall there is looking likely to be 17 people playing the home game this Thursday. This is a new record I think!!!
I am day off Thursday, what time are we meeting in the eagle?
-
Darlington 13.30, hotel bag drop off, Eagle 14.30
Job done 8)
-
I shall be there with the rock, will have a beer waiting!!
-
Add Gordon "GiMac" MacArthur to the list :D

What time is late registration??
I"m aiming to be there somewhere around 10.20....
Taking a pessimistic view of what level you"ll be at which assumes that you start on time and don"t extend any breaks that should give me 10BB minimum...
could whoever gets there first speak to whoever is setting up the tourney on the system please make sure that
a) - it"s set as a £10 + 1 rb, not 1 re-entry
b) - it"s set to allow late entry up to end of level 7 which I reckon should give me and lucy time to get involved
I"d hate to miss out totally, and you all know that I"m the value ;)

You want us to put you and Lucy in at the break Dave which ends the "reentry" period? Matty"s bought in then before after work which usually means a starting stack at around 9:15 - 9:30 when we restart after a break.. will that still give you chips at 10:20? Should do I guess?
option b of course would be the most sensible and just be there from the start and embrace the banter.. :D I"ll get you the comedy thing on DVD for Christmas x

Can somebody lock this thread please (Des? Leigh?), nobody is interested in them lot jibber jabbering about whats going on in... Where? Yarm? (I"m not even convinced a place called Yarm even exists tbf), we do not care anyway. Sure don"t see why anybody would want to go there this weekend either - I am quite happy going to work. I have asked Facebook to close all of their accounts until Monday as well so we don"t have to read any silly updates about this upcoming weekend. Doubt it will even be that much fun anyway.

Also ....

What are the plans for Fri and Sat? Are there any or is Thursday night going to be sooooooo manic that we"ll need Fri and Saturday to re-couperate! (Apart from Stu obv who will be going into work at some un-godly hour cursing the lot of us ;D)

Pretty much.
It"s based on "checking in" to locations. Sometimes there are special offers if you do (that come up on screen). There are tips and other stuff.
It also let"s you know if you have friends nearby etc, etc.
I think you can do much the same on FB but 4Sq is just better about it.
-
Fri ??? ??? ???
Saturday is my Birthday and I has a cunning plan ;D ;D ;D
Friday.. I"m supposed to be working from home. GG there Phil after Thursday. Anna is coming round after school but whomever is crashing round mine is more than welcome to stay as long as they like.. long sleep in etc. Presuming hotel bookings will be 2ish anyway so thats not a problem. Gives me enough time to have a quick tidy before Anna arrives..
My Friday night.. I"m taking Anna and a date upto see Dirty Dancing in Sunderland. GG Phil again.
Friday night.. I would suggest a meal and then a session down Yarm for those able to do that.. Stu can be your guide :) loads of pubs and all within a high street stagger.. most are next door to each other. Other than that they"ll be a Friday game on at either the G or the Gala Id imagine. Save some of your liver for Saturday and me rejoining the fun though.
Saturday morning I have Anna till lunch time.. need to do an hours work for India then I"m ready to play again :)
I like cunning plans Ger ;D x
ps Barber will be in attendance Saturday also and is kipping round mine x
-
For those wanting to play poker Friday (according to their websites.. never been as I always have Anna on a Friday)..
G Casino (where we"ll be Thursday night)
£20+5 Double Chance Freezeout (option To Take All Chips At Start) Freeze Out 5000+5000 20:00
Gala is a £10+1 rebuy... 1500 chips.. 20:00
Personally.. I"d vote beer.
-
I think yarm on a friday might be a little bit on the busy side for peoples tastes Phil.... am sure we can find somewhere to go for a nice beer tho :)
-
Personally for the weekend.
Tomorrow...
Free all damned day, so am jsut waiting for the troops to arrive :D
Friday...
Work 10-7 :( but then free to entertain for the night, although i wont be out too late because...
saturday....
work 6am-3pm. Seemed the lesser of 2 evils really, so i get finished early and am out to meet up with everyone by 4pm.
sunday...
work 6am-11am. Had this one sprung on me. They have been warned i will not be sober.
-
The first 2 of the invaders have arrived. Smyth and baker are currently at the bar in the eagle. Let the carnage commence!!
-
Invasion complete. Playing darts at the eagle. I"m currently 5 pints deep. Prediction.... Out of poker first
-
Crushed By Michelle at pool. I live in deep shame.
-
Last night was fun, now in the center of Yarm having a hair of the dog.
-
Today the invasion kicks into high gear with the dukes birthday. I am personally in work for another 4hrs 55mins. Ger informed us last night (mulyself, Paulie and get had a couple of civilised pints at the eagle whilst Michelle and curly were playing poker at the G. From what I hear it was interesting!) that he would be in yarm on the lash for mid day after they took Phils dog (who everyone has fallen in live with) for a group walk.
I would guess Facebook will be awash with updates later on. In the meantime, happy birthday to Ger :)
-
Dates for The Sequel?

Dates for The Sequel?
Hmmm another invasion is difficult now.
Yarm is now occupied by the forces of Luton and Chezger following Invasion and subsequent take over, although some parts may still be free. However I understand that a resistance movement has begun and that such heroic characters as Fatcatstu and Phil_TC are soon going to be sending out for assistance in liberating this famous area of the APAT kingdom.
Although the invading force was most powerful liberation could be possible if forces are sent from The Midlands and Wales with some direct intervention from Jaxie Towers.
YARM II - The Massive Strike Back is expected to be released during the upcoming winter months I would have thought.
-
M"eh must be time by now.
When is it happening again boys? As you may already be aware we need a planning meeting. Yarm sounds like a good location.

WCOAP in March so I would suggest Feb is the way to go, happy to go with the flow obviously.

Well I"m going March 21st.
Not ideal as it"s only 1 week before the WCOAP but I need to be in the North East that weekend so it makes sense.
-
In the interests of research I intend to travel on 14th Feb and 21st March. Just awaiting confirmation that people will be around.
Edit forgot the significance of 14th, changing to 7th......

I have scoured my weight watchers books for entries under "Y", in the vain hope that Yarm might be included, but sadly no. However Yam is included so I shall inquire tonight as to whether that is a simple spelling error.
I have also looked under "W" (weekend on the piss) but this also is missing for some reason.
If the spelling is correct, I shall sadly have to miss this time round, unless you can change the name to
"INVASION YAM" ;D

I think February is a "No" but March might be possible...but it"s close to WCOAP and I only have limited cash at the moment.
-
Carlsberg don"t do invasions, but if they did...
One small note on March, the date may well clash with next Grand Prix at DTD - announcement expected soon but March is definitely the month and since the first weekend is the Deepstack and the last weekend is the WCOAP the GP may well have Day2/3 on the 23rd/24th. I"m pretty committed to being there :-)
Roll on February - always good to receive visitors

What Ger said and Del don"t worry about such minor details, just go to Yarm and it will all make sense....... Well, it probably won"t but it won"t really matter at that point.
7th Feb to 10th Feb (Vegas 2013 planning meeting)
21st March to 24th March WCOAP warm up weekend
Edit - I know what I meant

I"m not making any guarantees but I might be able to do Saturday & Sunday.

For info purposes, My train gets in at 14:39
Darlington 14.30 me - what station are you due in at ?
Yarm
Whats your train then ? I mean from where via where?
Driving. Trains redic expensive and seemed to do a grand tour of the north, and three changes.
Do you need picking up from anywhere?
No worries will see you in the hotel

I feel a trip into yarm on Friday might be in order? Or just air in the eagle. If last month was anything to go by, no one will be in a fit state to play cards on Friday

Cards on Friday? JP I am surprised at you. This is Yarm. LOL can"t wait for this one.

There have, however, been many an attempted invasion of Yarm, mainly led by Ger The Hun.
He rides into town and pillages the local businesses of their beer and the local men of their money"s.
There have been numerous accomplices to Ger The Hun and his sorties. Names such as napoleon Roubd, Adolf Barber and Paulie the conqueror have joined in his evil plans, but the Yarm Avengers have repelled all attacks.
This promises to be the toughest test of Yarms defences, and the outcome promises to be apocoliptic
-
Those were just warm up visits. ;) ;D
-
Yarm is particularly apprehensive about the visit of boudalaxie, battle axe of Ohio, voice of the drunkards. She has a reputation for corruption of junior members of the Hun clan. Contingency plans are currently being drawn.
Yarm are not cOnfident
-
I hear Ger The Hun is very pleased with the way the reconnaissance missions went and, having signed a treaty from his ultimate stronghold at Chezger with the Forces of Jaxie Towers, he is very much in a position to strike the final blow. Re-enforcement"s from Paulie the Conqueror are also expected. Now Yarm is strong and the Avengers are powerful but given this most grave of situations their survival is doubtful. Stay tuned to see if they can prevail against what might be the ultimate invading force.
-
I"ve just confirmed shipment of our secret weapon. Be afraid.
-
Yarm have officially mobilised operation motson. No further details will be disclosed at this moment in time. All will be revealed Thursday of the invasion. Unlucky.
If all else fails, there are rumours that the legendary agent Jack will be recalled to action

Resistance is futile. :-*

Yarm intelligence has intercepted the following message
Memo to: Leaders of Jaxie Corps
Memo From: Agent Rodder"s of the Western side of the Bridge
High regards to you comrades
We in the West are happy to confirm the Invasion Fuel has been secured and is in our possession. We expect it to be delivered on time as per the requirement. As always it is good be be working with Jaxie corps on this venture to bring Yarm into the Empire.
Invasion fuel for Agent Andrews has also been secured.

Hmm best keep an eye on this situation, just on the off chance Jack has become a double agent working for the freedom of all Yarm and against the evil Invaders led by Ger the Hun (aka us). He is one of the baddies supporters who are coming to the Western side of the bridge next week planning to chase an egg after all.

Just to confirm my Travel plans have changed slightly.
I will now be getting the train from Manchester to Darlington along with The Duke. This will hopefully save Stu/Matt having to mess about both coming out to collect us and make planning getting the The Eagle easier.
7 days to go and I think it is fair to say people are looking forward to this one. Work at the start of next week is going to be hard as gonna really want to go into holiday mode.

This is to confirm that as requested, the insurance cover relating to property damage, public nuisance, street cleaning and lift repairs for YARM has been raised to the maximum amount permitted under your current scheme.
It is noted that this cover will revert to the previous level once the INVASION referred to in previous correspondence is deemed to have ended.
We also confirm that such cover will automatically increase to the maximum level once we receive advice (whether electronic or physical) from you that ANY of the persons listed in the afore-mentioned previous correspondence make a return to the geographical boundaries of the Parish of Yarm.
For the avoidance of doubt the amount has been raised to fully cover the current value of Yarm...to wit
£35

I am most certainly no property expert but does £1.3M sound a bit cheap for a place like that?

I dont know what peoples plans are for the Friday night but poker wise the two choices are G casinos £20 double chance which usually sees 60 plus players last nights numbers were 76 paying £580 for first, think top ten got paid, they have also just removed a level after the break so if you are not chipped up early you will be short stacked.
The other game is at Gala which is a £40 plus £4 freezout 1 re entry guarenteed £2k if over 30 runners, I played this last night it reached its guarentee with about 34 runners first prize was £800 plus a seat into a £165 comp later in the month.
8k starting stack extra 1k reg before 7:50
Both casinos are within easy reach of each other via cab.
Any more info required just ask here.

For Friday shall we all just descend on one casino and get them to set up a small stakes (Drunken) DC cash game for the invaders & selected defenders ? :)

The floor plan is perfect as well for my vision Rodders .... I was sooo excited I sent link to my business partner within seconds. Particulaly grinned at the "dog run" bit. When Velvet clash with Shakira Shakira this Sunday the phrase OBWYWLT will take on a different meaning ;-)
And and and there is permission for a helicopter pad which was also part of the original plan. This is FATE I tells ya!
Next Friday is the Euromillions £22mill guaranteed lottery ..... seems the perfect time to manifest up the money imo ;-)

I dont know what peoples plans are for the Friday night
Mine involved drinking heavily in Yarm or the Eagle.
Poker? Plenty of time for that in Nottingham.

Do not fall sleep this time though sweetie ... I will not be there to check on you :(
Although keeping fingers and toes crossed something miraculous happens so that I can get there for the Friday ... it would need to be very miraculous though.
I"m relying on Laxie to make sure you and Jack do not nod off somewhere together ... you"re representing the South here and I expect text updates on how many wenches you secure in this invasion!

You"re relying on ME to keep them awake?! lolololol You obv haven"t seen the video of our last gathering. As long as I don"t drink shots, it should be ok. Not as young as I used to be (or used to "think" I was).

Also...hurry up and win the lotto please. I"d love to raid that hot tub while we"re there. Ta xx

Thursday night....
I spoke to the CRM at G last night to let him know we could have 20 runners and that"s fine, but...
They now have a fairly popular £10rb on Thursdays and are getting accustomed to new software.
It may be easier to run our own clock and table balancing and just rely on them to take the money and dish out any re-entry chips since the guy who will be on duty on Thursday (Paul the Scouser) will be pretty busy with their game.
Our standard game allows one re-entry in the first 3 levels and we varied that last time and got a game that went on for a long long time. I suggest we stick with the usual game and maybe even lower the starting stack to 5k from the usual 7500.
Whatever the plan, let"s resolve it here before the day.
-
Leave the stacks as they are IMO and am fine with it being 1 rebuy :)

With the Invasion close we need to co-ordinate the invaders. Ger and I will be arriving via train getting into Darlington at 14:30 on the dot.
We have an expect arrival at the hotel at around 3pm and will most likely head over to the Eagle straight off so ETA is 15:10.
Dawn/Jack/Del - I have vital supplies for you when will you require these, can deliver to hotel if required as long as you are there on our arrival :-)

You can walk to the pub.
-
Are we all staying at the same hotel (PI, I think)? Will make a point of arriving same time as you guys (or before it) to sort transfer of supplies and follow you lot to the Eagle.
Confirm PI Stockton West. As per Ger"s recommendation.
ETA is 15:00 - gonna be awesome.

Half a brain half a brain,
Half a brain between them,
All in the valley of Yarm
Rode the seven hunted:
"Forward, the Invasion Brigade!
Charge for the pubs" he said:
Into the valley of Yarm
Rode the seven hunted.
"Forward, the Invasion Brigade!"
Was there a man dismay"d ?
Not tho" the dealer knew
Some one had blunder"d:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but raise, call or die,
Into the valley of Yarm
Rode the seven hunted.
Dawn to right of them,
Rodders to left of them,
Technolog in front of them
Duke & Wee man thunder"d;
Paulie at the bar and JP ringing the bell,
Boldly they drank and well,
Into the slops of Death,
Into the shots from Hell
Rode the seven hunted.
Flush"d all their cards bare,
Flush"d as they turn"d nowhere
Raising the eejits there,
Charging a casino while
All the world wonder"d:
Plunged in the cigarette-smoke
Right thro" the line they broke;
The Stockton Massive
Reel"d from the master-stroke,
Shatter"d & sunder"d.
Then they sat back, but not
Not the seven hunted.
Dawn to right of them,
Rodders to left of them,
Technolog in front of them
Duke & Wee man thunder"d;
Paulie at the bar and JP ringing the bell,
While one or two of them fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro" the jaws of Yarm,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of seven hunted.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild plays they made!
All the world wonder"d.
Honour the trip they made!
Honour the Invasion Brigade,
Noble seven hunted!

Bit optimistic. Better chance in the train station, I reckon.

The next few days are so predictable. Lots of photos please of ger asleep in a chair, stu being arrested, jack running naked through the town and rodders being refused entry to the casino.
Enjoy.....

They came, they saw, they drank, they played, they dozed, they bet, and ultimately, JP conquered
More details will emerge over the day no doubt, but it was a pleasure to share a table with the invasion force even if JP managed to flop a flush as I flopped a set, even if Dawn"s 55 was too good for my AQ aip, and even with Ger managing to catch two pair and persuade me to call his river value bet (honours were about even between us last night)
Today"s events seem likely to start late although Jack did get some early sleep last night ;)

So anyway let"s bring some hand analysis to this board.
You are playing in a cash game and a big Irish blokey raises you. You call and the flop comes down 8-9-T giving you a straight flush draw you bet and said Irish blokey goes all in. WWYD.
Well the answer is you call and see said Irish bloke has flopped the nuts you then hit your flush draw on the turn and win the hand and defeat the defenders and pillage Yarm a bit more. Only one defender dared to show his face against the fearsome forces today but he was soundly defeated. Ger the Hun is now in control of Yarm (although he is mumbling something about 74 and Wee Man is still going on about 88).
The invasion has been declared a success. Terms will be discussed tomorrow and are likely to involve Parmos
-
Sound legendary! :)

We had parmos delivered to our room last night. They kept Jack from wandering off but they"re disgusting!!!

I dont feel well.

There appears to be a few issues here.
1 - It looks nothing like a parmo should.
2 - There is a lack of chips
3 - Where is the token salad?
4 - (Most importantly) WHERE IS THE FECKING GARLIC SAUCE?!?!?!?!?!?

I can see a couple of leaves....I"d call that token.

There appears to be a few issues here.
1 - It looks nothing like a parmo should. - Yeah. It"s called HEALTHY! As opposed to heart attack on a plate.
2 - There is a lack of chips - Pasta instead of chips. Healthier. Notice the theme yet?
3 - Where is the token salad? - Fresh Basil is in it and on top of it. Happy to include side salad for you though.
4 - (Most importantly) WHERE IS THE FECKING GARLIC SAUCE?!?!?!?!?!? - Fresh garlic and sauce are all part of it. Get yer arse to ours and I"ll treat you to a proper Chicken Parmesan.

Per Steve Roderick FB
With summer coming I would suggest it is time for a bit of pillage and plunder again. I hear July and August are good months for this. Given that Yarm has proven to be a soft target in the past and it"s really easy to take the locals money (especially if you are Ger or JP) and steal all their ale I would like to highly recommend we do the same again. I am going to suggest early July for the next attack. Would people be prepared to take part in this venture? Suggesting this early so everybody can sort work time off etc.
Me.
Depends on the S7 schedule mate. For me I just don"t have too many vacation days available to me.
I **might** be able to get away on a Friday afternoon but it would mean arriving in Yarm c.10pm.
To be honest it"s a bit far....how about somewhere in the middle (Birmingham/Coventry/DTD?)
Thoughts?
-
im sure i could be pursuaded.

Stag dooooo will be July... just saying.. hanging fire for the season announcement first though and seeing what"s planned for around July. August no good for me.. have plans ;D x

Weekend of 20th - 24th March as per Facebook discussion.

Maybe...probably couldn"t do more than Friday & Saturday night for myself. I need to look at how many vacation days I have and that, to some extent, that depends on the S8 schedule...and we won"t know that for many months.

And isn"t that APAT Newcastle?

I think that"s been cancelled.

I am reliably informed that APAT Newcastle is still going ahead. Details to be announced shortly.

When are we invading next?
-
When are we invading next?
Lemme see.
January 31st / February 2nd : Stoke
February 28th / March 2nd : Aspers Newcastle (allegedly)*
March 21st - 24th : LPPL Southport
April 14th - 21st : WCOAP Stratford.
*AFAIK
Not a lot of room for manoeuvre in there.
Frankly, and I"m not saying I will, I"d rather invade Stoke (even though I"m not playing) for a meetup since the majority will be there.
I have nothing specifically against Yarm...just that it"s a fecking long way (for a short weekend [for me] )and I don"t have that many vacation days I"m willing to put out prior to a S8 announcement.
-
I will be invading Yarm this year for certain!!

Hey Guy"s
Dare I resurrect this thread? It MUST be time to do this again?
I want to go and visit Yarm and the very awesome Stockton Massive this summer. I have discussed with Stu a little already and I am going to put out an early, not at all confirmed suggestion, of 17th to 20th July (pending tomorrows season 8 announcement)? Premier Inn Stockton West is currently £143 for the stay and if we book trains online now it will be pretty cheap as well.
Would anybody be up for this to like to propose a different date?
-
Late May / Mid June would be better....for me!
-

Wanted to ensure we all had lots of notice. Premier Inn Stockton West is £122 for 3 nights from Thursday 19th June, so that might be possible if no clashes with Season 8. I am pretty easy as long as it works for the guys in Yarm and a few can get there.

JP"s suggested dates would be good for me :)

I have reserved a room at the PI Stockton West for £183 for the 3 nights. I say reserved cos I went through booking.com and you pay when you check in using that site, with free cancellation until 1pm on August 14th if plans change.
Means I can also keep an eye on the price and get it cheaper if there is a sale on between now and then.

So can we assume 14th to 17th August has the go ahead then? The prices are pretty good atm

Stragglers ???
Wait a minute have the whole of APAT not booked yet? If not why not EPIC will not do this weekend justice. Anybody not stuck in USA for 90 days is required to attend :-)

A certain Mr Worldwide was complaining the other night that he hadnt been invited, despite the thread having been up for years.
He is now looking to try and sort it out, so hopefully thats another victim :)

Guy"s
Just to check. I am arriving in Yarm via Train at 2pm (don"t fancy a 5.5 hour drive) on 14/08. Is anybody else coming in on the train or are other people driving. Is anybody coming in on the train that day and what time are they getting there?
I am happy to wait for others to arrive if anybody is also arriving in Yarm that day. We will need to get to hotel to drop stuff before before heading for, I would assume, The Eagle.

I had some free time..

Glenn and I arrive in Eaglescliffe at 14.05 on the 14th.

What ales do they sell in the eagle I will need to do extensive research on these northern beers to ensure I make the right choice :)
-
Usually have all your standard lagers (fosters, carlsberg, stella 4) Guinness and 3 guest real ales. Im sure there is more but i cant remember.
-
As long as they don"t overcharge me for my Soda Water & Lime...I"m cool.

This would be terrible news. However with The Stockton Massive on the case I am very confident a more than suitable pub will be found. They are experts !!!!!!
How about.....

If you are happy with this I will meet you at Premier Inn at about 14:30 and we will get a taxi to The Bull.

Well by the looks of it, you have to drive past Eaglescliffe station on the way to Stockton, so maybe you could pick us up in your cab, on the way (assuming we are both on time), or even stay on the train if it stops at Eaglescliffe and we can all go from there?
-
Errrrm yes the taxi probably does go past it now i think about it, if the timings coincided it wouldnt be much of a hardship for the taxi driver at all.
Speaking of which 01642666666 is the number for the local taxi company.
-
I"d assumed Ger was arranging a limo. ;D

Would likely make sense - you both arrive in Eaglescliffe at 2pm right? PM me a number if you can so we can (my phone died and I lost yours) co-ordinate on the day.

Diving up on Friday unfortunately - ;D

Mood maybe...but the PI is now £82 on Thursday...that"s wilted me a bit.
You never know though.

Small warning to everyone.
Boro play the Leeds Dirties at mid day on saturday. I believe Ger, Curly and JP can inform you of what happened in Portugal when me and The Stockton Rock watched a Boro match.
This will be worse.
I hate Leeds with something approaching obsession.
Dirties.

Especially when it was JP"s team you were hurling abuse at :(
At least this time the people around you will understand what"s going on...
And you"re less likely to call a random American"s QB a "bellend" :o

All good points, but that was good natured banter. There is genuine hatred towards the scum :)

I"m liking the look of the Black Bull. I have been extensively researching it on the interweb and it looks like it has a wide choice of proper beer (not that lager stuff) yum yum
I"ve packed and collected my train tickets.

Very good pub. It"s a Nicholsons, so a chain but one of the better chains
-
Just for clarity I have not yet considered packing or collected my tickets, this is of no concern tbh as I still have nearly 12 hours till my train. What could go wrong.
The Bull is a great pub as JP says, out of interest as real ales got brought up does anybody do that Casque Marque ale trail?
