Firstly I"m gonna say I"ve been on the end of a few sore ones when someone at your table appears to deliberately sit-out in the hope of either winning a satty seat, making the money or laddering. Last night I walked away from a game for the first time ever and have mixed feelings about it.
I worked till 10pm last night, got home with Anne & Cammy already in bed so fired up the PC and started a couple of low buy-in games to spend a bit of leisure time & enjoy a game.
One of these was a $1 MTT on Stars that started at 10.45pm. I thoroghly enjoyed the game and tend to treat these just as I would a bigger buy-in game. At 4.30am we were down to 6 players, I was 3rd in chips with over 600k ( approx 40 BBs) and brain dead due to work and an interview earlier that morning. I tried to get the others to consider a deal so I could sleep but only 2 opponents were willing despite the fact there weren"t large amounts of money involved (6th got $40 and winner got $180, $570 left in total). I ended up giving up and switched off my PC, simply because I was so so tired. I obviously blinded out and finished 4th.
Thoughts/Comments?

nothing wrong with that at all. If I"m at the business end of a tourney, and someone chooses to sit out, I just take advantage and try to pick up their dead blinds.. also it"s one less person to bust me.
-
nowt wrong at all, you pays your monies you do what you like.
think we have all been in a similar position at some stage.
-
Do what you like. We"ve all seen many players sitting out. I satellited into something before but got stuck at work and missed the whole thing. When I got home I found I had cashed for $145.

Just go all in every hand. You may suck out big style and send the whole table on tilt. That will teach them for not dealing!

I did that 3 hands in a row and they all folded so just gave up ;D

Oh Dear I"m at it again, running deep in a $4.40 Hi-Lo on Stars (that I expected would be finished by now). Currently 4/18/209 and it"s 4am. Will I get a deal tonight? ;D

I thought this was a serious thread..... Turns out it"s just another blatant brag thread! ;)

Surprised at the responses TBH coz I felt bad leaving the game before it ended. I tend to start any game with a view to just continually build my stack and attempt to win, doesn"t quite feel right to run that deep then just quit. But......Yes I did the same last night again. Was after 5am and down to 6 players, 3/6 again and no deal on table so the PC went off & I got much needed sleep. Woke up this morning to find I finished 4th again and don"t feel quite so bad about leaving the game ;D

Grant could I suggest you play the 180 man SNG if you fancy a quicker tourney.. Some good money up top in the $4 games if you bust one early on probably still time to complete another if you want..or four table from the start.. Sounds like your playing well and on a bit of a heater :) congrats keep up the good work.

Cheers for the suggestion Carl, I"ve never been near a SnG for a long long time so good time to check that out. Also a long time since i had 4 tables running and was never quite focussed enough for that, but will certainly look at 2 or 3 as I"m comfortable with this :)

They do $11 180s now also and are full of idiots just like the $4.40 but the problem is the 180s can take ages to fill up though, and are super boring once they get going.
There are also turbo 180s which fill up much quicker and take 70 mins to finish normally. There are also 45 runner sngs which fill up fast and only take around 45 mins iirc. Full of idiots and very high variance but if you play them lots then they are profitable.

I used to do okay on the 180 SnG"s. Actually built my bankroll quite nicely from them, but then I started playing the Sunday games like the "Storm" etc. Bankroll dropped!
Now all my money goes on nappies! Lol.
GL in your next Sit out "n" Go (to bed)

Ive seen this loads of times and love it, as I obviously have more stamina and stay to the end ;)
I dont see the point in just logging out tbh. In the situation you have described Grant you have laddered 2 places but 6 handed would it not be a better idea to get super aggro? You might bust 6th (result go to bed), you might bust smaller stacks with cr*p (ladder and wind up other players) but ultimately you want to be in the top 3 of any tourney so logging out is just awful.
Dont be such a feckin wimp...get it allin every hand as soon as you reach FT ;)

Tried that a few times in the NLHE on first night then gave up, but 2nd night was pot limit so I just disconnected and went to bed lol

Yeah this is a tricky one especially when your in a strong position . However it all depends what your prepared to settle for from the outset . I mean you started playing late so you would have had a rough estimate of what time the final table would have been and what time you were considering sleeping . So lets say you thought if I can play for 5 / 6 hrs and get to £ 25 then I"ll settle for that . You"ve won both ways , you have played poker and cashed all be it difficult to walk away . For what it"s worth I think you made the correct decision , after all earning a living is more important than online poker or any poker for that matter . Some players have suggested playing the 180 which maybe a better alternative if time is an issue . fmb .
