Title: WCOAP Day 2 - Team Final, 6Max, Hi Roller
Post by: Chipaccrual on March 29, 2013, 10:31:37 AM
Join us back at 2pm today for the second day of the World Championship Of Amateur Poker being held at the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club in Nottingham.

Today will see the climax of the twelve team World Amateur Team Championship.  England currently head the way, closely followed by Portugal, with Italy, Ireland, Spain and the USA leading the chasing pack. You can read read the overnight report here (http://www.apat.com/index.php/england-head-the-way-in-world-amateur-team-event/)

Three more sessions of STT"s to come from 2pm, with the top 4 making it through to the heads up medal matches.

There are also two more side events today.  At 2:30pm will be the World Amateur Six Max Championship.  We are expecting to smash the 192 runner cap for this event, making it the largest side event APAT has ever seen.

At 6pm, the WCOAP Hi Roller event will begin.  A £250+£25 buyin should see a cracking prizepool for the expected 70 or so runners.

We"ll keep you up to date with all the action on this thread, and once again, we will be streaming final tables live from DTD later in the day.  Keep a watch out for the links to the live feed when they are up and running.

Chased her OESD and a big bet on the river couldnt scare off second pair.

Then shoved with AK that couldnt crack 44.

With the grand distinction of doing from second to second-to-last...ive decided to help the guys out for the day (hopefully do better on this side of the game   )

My exit from the 6-max was basically a series of coolers...losing 2k with trips to a flopped full house. Second hand was a turned straight losing to the rivered full house...but the hand that saw me out was this...

Peter on the button, raises to 125...small blind reraises to 425, big blind folds, i flat with  9c 9d
Flop:  Jc 8c 5c
Small blind bets 500, Button flats
Turn:  2d
SB bets 1150, Button shoves for 3,800. Small snaps with  6c 3c
River? Forth club? Suckout?...No,  9h for the sick needle...

And thats me out, and onto the floor with notepad in hand!

Dann Williams of In The Muck poker podcast is up to 16k.

Raising it up pre-flop with 6h 3h, he"s called by the Tens of Kayleigh Bate.

Flop comes Tx 2h 4h giving Dann a gustshot and flush draw.

Dann leads out on both the turn and river and is called twice.

Turn = 6, River = 5, giving Dann the straight vs. Kayleigh"s set.

A 6k pot heads Dann"s way.

Whilst I"m writing this hand up, Kayleigh is involved in another hand, which sends her to the rail in 195th place.

All the exits so far:

195    Kayleigh Bate
196    Greg Fee
197    Faye Beres
198    Sean Rigley

200    Adam Hughes

Flop comes  Kc 9d Kd - checked round

Turn comes  Qh

Alan and Jo check - Chris fires 825 - both fold.

Chris Webber takes down a tasty pot

Few updates from wanders on the floor

Adam Sharples (33-1) sitting on around 16k, proudly sporting his bronze medal on the table from the 7CS from last night

Wayne Smith (ECOAP 2012 Stud Champion) has around 2k, cant seem to get anything going

James Edwards (31-3) seems to be up around the chiplead on about 22k

Sharon Roberts (21-3) has, as she puts it "about 12k ish, remember the ish"

----

One hand while on the wander was quite good however...

Table 21, joined on the flop of   3d 6h 4d , Seat 2 (Andrew Marshall) calls a bet of 1,250 from seat 6 (Malachi Wizzard)
Turn:  7c
Malachi bets 1,800...Andrew calls
River:  8h
Malachi asks for a count, to which Andrew obliges for around 3k...he bets 1,700 only for Andrew to shove for what was actually 3,225...Malachi tanks for a little bit, asks for the bet to be bought in...then eventually calls, Andrew shows  5c 5d for the turned straight..Malachi folds and Andrew doubles to what seemed to be about 15k

In The Muck"s Dann Williams raises, without looking at his cards, from the button and c-bets a rainbow flop of: Kx 8x Tx. His opponent calls. Dann looks at his cards (T2o).

The turn comes 9x and both check.

River 2c to give Dann 2 pairs. Dann leads out and is called. 2 pairs is good for a 3.5k pot.

It is at the moment Rich as the focus is the six max atm.  As we get to the second or third phase of today"s play in the team we"ll increase the coverage.  Looking like Portugal and England for the Gold Medal playoff at the end of the day based on current trend. :)

Wondered how long till that pic was used!!!

Team Event news: Kevin O"Hanlon (Ireland) heads up vs Bruno Abelho (Portugal).

Kevin has a minnow stack (approx. 1 bigblind), Bruno a massive stack (loads of bing blinds!).

Kevin all in blind 4 times in a row..... and wins all 4, including rivering his 3-outer twice in a row - the most recent QJ vs Q6 with the magical 6 dropping on 5th.

Two more all-in"s later, and Kevin wins the match! It"s like nothing we"ve seen before at DTD, with the rail going crazy (The Irish cheering and singing, the Portugese asking for the "floor" :D).

Portugese team approach the update desk and say "Now we"re true believers in the "Luck of the Irish"!!"

Action from Table 27

Dan Dennehy UTG raises to 750 - David Hipperson UTG+1 re pops to 1750

Folded round to Dan who 4 bets to 3,600 - David 5 bets to 20k putting Dan all in - Dan doesnt tank for long and mucks his AQ.

David mucks his cards....then reveals he also had AQ.....

Taking their lead from the Irish vs Portugal encounter of 5 minutes ago, Canada"s Craig MacInnes vs England"s Carl Pilgrim featured another dramatic comeback.

Craid down to less than 1 bigblind, and a 29-1 chip defecit, managed to double up 5 times in a row, and then win an all-in-blind-pre-flop showdown of T2o (Canada) vs 72o (England). Cue huge applause and cheers!

Canada take max. points from the table, with England err.. 2nd max :)

Ian Witt has a lucky escape....after shoving all in to a PFR and a call, he finds his shove called by Marco Almeda, who shows 99....Ian tables AK and we are off to the races.

But the first card down is a 9 and Ian is in awful shape - but the board then brings a Ten and a Queen and he suddenly finds outs. A brick deuce on the turn leaves Ian with 4 outs....and a Jack duly materialises, sickening Marco and leaving him with shrapnel.

Malachi Wizzard makes a magical move on T21...after Andrew Marshall raises to 850 and Suhail Elorfi calls from the SB, Malachi squeezes the two to death from the BB by shoving all in for about 13k. Neither wanted any part of Malachi"s trickery and folded, leaving Malachi to pick up over 2k uncontested.

Team Event update: The PLO STTs have just started.

Early doors, Steve Redfern raises it up with AA78. One caller, then his Italian opponent pots it back. SR gives it another pot-sized raise effectively putting him all in. Call.

KKQ9 vs AA78, and the KK sets up to leave SR very short...

With Italy currently lying in 3rd in the event overall, and England 1st, this could potentially be an important swong in the scheme of things...

Matt is speaking like an Allo Allo Policeman... Swong!

6-max: JP Round raises to 1750 (blinds 300/600) in the cutoff with QQ. Button and sb both call. bb folds.

Flop: 10c Ad 4c

button checks, sb bets out, JP folds.

button shoves and bb calls.

button (Ashley Gillott) A s Jd

sb (Brian Jones) Ac 6c

The turn brings the 8c, River Kc and Ashley is running on fumes. Brian scoops the 13.5k pot.

Next hand Ashley gets it aipf 5x 9x vs Ax Tx of JP Round. The board is no help and Ashley leaves us.

Steve Barson causing carnage on Table 25 - taking out Chris Baylis with A3 - slightly ahead against Chris"s KT - but 2 Aces on the flop seal Chris"s fate - a King on the turn giving him little comfort.

Meanwhile on Table 35 Paul Parker takes down a very nice pot - a 4k bet enough on a A23 board to take down about 6k.

6 Max - The action continues unabated as Michael Sharkey jams on Thomas Byrne with a  Ah 7h 10h board showing....Thomas tanks but eventually mucks as Michael flips  A s 10s

Over on Table 25 and it looks like Suhail Elofi has assumed the tournament chip lead - having nearly 120,000 chips towering in front of him

Is the 6 max finally slowing down as we go to 5 tables?

T36 and Brian Jones bets 5k into just over a 10k flop - table chippy Thomas Byrne shows no mercy as he announces raise - Brian folds before Thomas gets his chips over the line.

On T25 Robert Dean takes a set of blinds and antes after his raise to 6.5k.

The bubble has burst in the 6 Max Champs - the unfortunate player to depart the tournament without cashing is Richard Breach - Richard shoves with pocket 10"s to be called by Karl West, sat there with AQ. No Ace...No Queen....but 4 spades materialised and Karl only had the  A s

So all players guaranteed at least double their money, with the eventual winner taking just under £3k and of course the much desired APAT Champions Bracelet.

Table 25 - Ben Roffey shoves all in over David Burghardts PFR - Ben only tables K6 but in decent shape against David"s J6. No worries here as the K6 are hearts and a flush means Ben doubles through David.

Over on Table 35 and Scot Rawlings has raised UTG - only for Ross Freemen to shove from the BB for a very substantial amount - Scot counts out his chips and is left with shrapnel if he calls and loses.....he tanks and regretfully folds....groaning as Ross shows 99.....Scot having 10 10 let go....

David Burghardt didnt loan Ben Roffey his chips for long...3 hands later and Ben shoves again....David this time wakes up with AQ - which dismissed Ben"s AT with ease in 19th place....we are now down to 18 and three tables

Dann Williams in the 6-max shoves aipf from the button for 70k. The small blind of Angus Macdonald insta-calls and tables 7s 7h.

Dann, having shoved blind, flips 9s 6d.

The board runs out 6h 8s Jd 10h Ah which is no help for Dann and he heads to the rail and 16th place for £183.

another monster pot on T25 - Gary Jackson limps UTG for the 4k BB, Sohail Elofi raises to 18k, David Burghardt from the button calls - blinds pass - Gary calls - so well over 60k in the middle pre.

Flop is  Qh 5h 5d - Gary checks, Sohail bets 60k, David passes, Gary shoves - Sohail snaps him off.

Sohail shows  Kd Qd - Gary  Qc 10h

Turn is  7c

River  2c

Sohail eliminates Gary Jackson and must now be knocking on 300k"s door minimum.

Steve Barson doubles through David Burghardt - AK v A2

Paul Haycock shoves on Scot Rawlings who has to pass - Paul shows a Queen, which seems to be enough for Scot to be pleased with his pass.

Malachi Wizzard chip count is now also nearly 300k

Daniel Bedson shoves and takes a set of blinds/antes as the average in the tournament now exceeds 150k

Angus Macdonald raises it to 30k in the cutoff. Mark Curwen shoves all in for 47k more from the small blind. The big blind folds and Angus makes the call.

Angus: Ah 4h

Mark: Ac Qh

The flop brings two hearts and a brick, and Mark is visibly worried of what is to happen next...

...

...

Thankfully for Mark the rest of the board bricks out too, putting him up to around average stack.

Hand Action :

Ross Freeman shoves - Malachi Wizzard calls - both show KK! Split pot

Next hand, Ross Freeman shoves - all fold - shows 77

Next hand, Polly Timson raises to 22k - all fold - shows 99

Next hand, Daniel Bedson shoves all in - all fold - shows 33

Next hand....deep breath...

Dave Burghardt raises to 19k, Malachi Wizzard calls, Suhail Elofi calls, Polly Timson calls - nearly 90k in pot pre.

Flop comes  9d 3d 10c - checked around

Turn is  2h - Suhail fires 75k - Polly Timson announces all in, David and Malachi get out of the way - Suhail asks for count - Pollys shove is for another 132k on top of Suhail"s raise.

Suhail tanks for a goodly while, counting his remaining chips - he has still around 100k if he calls and loses.

Polly looks non plussed and answers "i really dont mind" when Suhail asks if she wants a call.

Eventually, he passes - they both agree to show - Suhail shows 77...Polly  10d 5d...

Jonathon Munton and Sophie Stynes get involved in a sick hand, that results in one of them exiting the tournament for good!

Jonathon shoves all in with 66 from early position. Sophie calls with AQ.

The board is a pleasing 3x 6x J.

The turn a harmless King.

But the river is a cruel mistress, munting him to the rail as it is the fateful, and totally unrequired, Ten. Ouch.

Sadly, its time for Polly to put the kettle on.....

and its another rabbit from the hat from Malachi Wizzard, who summons the spirits from the skies to catch a flush - the board showing Q62 with 2 hearts - Polly having top pair Jack kicker, with Malachi producing A6 hearts from up his sleeves.

A wave of his wand and the third heart arrives, sending Polly spinning and giving Malachi now a massive chip stack of what is close on 500,000.

6-max update: An all-in pre-flop confrontation sees one of our players heading to bed sooner than he"d have liked.

Daniel Bedson, for it was he, shoves all in in early position for 100k with A8.

Malachi Wizzard summons up a call, and as if producing a pair of turtle doves from his hands, reveals nothing other than Pocket Rockets!!

Alakazam! And Daniel leaves us in 10th place, taking with him £203 for his efforts.

We are now down to 9 players.

High-roller hand:

Yiannis Liperis shoves all-in from mid-position for 20k.
Next to act, Neil Dobney, shoves over the top for 45k total.

Nick Secker dwells and folds.

The cards are on their backs.

Yiannis shows: Jh 10s

Neil shows: Qd Qs

Nick says "I folded Jacks", much to Yiannis" dismay - he"s now drawing very thin.

The flop is dealt: 4s Jd 7s

Turn: Jc (?!?)

River: 5h

Yiannis doubles up. Neil is left with 25k-ish.

Nick says "I folded Tens really. I said Jacks because they sound better". Nobody believes him.

6-max update. The 7-player final table has just begun...

The unlucky almost-made-it"s were:

8. David Burghardt
9. Steven Barson

MarkTheShark has details of David"s exit. Unfortunately Steven couldn"t get to the Barson enough, and we don"t have his exit details.

Our final table shapes up like this:

1. Sophie Stynes - 119,000
2. Mark Curwen - 182,500
3. Malachi Wizzard - 331,000
4. Angus Macdonald - 287,000
5. Ross Freeman - 293,000
6. Karl West - 268,000
7. Suhail Elorfi - 629,000

You can watch the action unfold on the DTD Live Stream, complete with Tighty and guest commentators over at:
http://www.dusktilldawncasinonottingham.com/live.php

(should be live in approx. 10 minutes).

MARK THE SHARK UPDATE

David Burghardt had his stack decimated when shoving with 66 - called by Ross Freeman with JK - the board bringing a Jack that left Dave with literally a couple of thousand.

He fought back briefly - doubling through 3 times before running his raggy Queen into Sohail"s AT and that was Dave out in 8th place.

Final Table is about to start - good luck to all Final Tablists - it should be a cracker

High Roller: Yiannis Liperis limps under the gun for 4k, leaving 2.5k back...
It folds round to Pete Linton who sticks a stack of 5k chips in.

Yiannis dwells for a bit and makes the call.

Yiannis: Js 9s

Anon: Jx Jx

Nick secker says "I folded Jacks". Nobody believes him.

The board runs out 5 7 J 5 8 and we lose Yiannis in 9th place, and with that the bubble is burst.

I approach the High Roller table to see Andrew Overton departing. Before I can get details of his exit hand, another hand develops between Peter Wigglesworth and Nick Secker.

Peter shoves all in utg with K8 and is called by the Queens of Nick Secker.

Queens hold, and we lose Peter in 7th.

Before I even finish this post, I receive notification that Neil Dobney has also departed.

We are now down to 5 players.

6 Max Champs still going 7 handed at the FT (!) - Mark Curwen has just taken a chunk off Malachi Wizzard with the blinds now at 10000/20000 with a 2k running ante.

Break upcoming in 5 - difficult to see flops from behind the cameras - you guys watching the stream will have more idea than i do being here!

Ross Freeman finds a double through via Suhail Elorfi - Ross shoves to be called by Suhail - Ross meekly shows 32 offsuit - Suhail AQ offsuit - a 435 flop nullifies Suhails Ace - Jack on the turn with a Ten on the river and Ross doubles up.

And we"re down to heads up in the Highroller.

Nick Secker shoves with 6d 6s and is called by the 10h Kh of Alistair "Shark Man" Carins.

NB: Alistair is known as "Shark Man" due to being one of the only men in history to survive a full blown Great White Shark attack (true story, and he has the scars to show for it).

The board runs out 9s Qc 8s Ks Qh and Alistair scoops.

It"s now Alistair vs Pete Linton for the Gold!...
Title: Re: WCOAP Day 2 - Team Final, 6Max, Hi Roller
Post by: Matt D on March 30, 2013, 01:56:28 AM
And we have a result in the highroller. After a ding-dong battle between Alistair and Pete Linton, and the stacks ebbing and flowing from player to player, the final hand plays out....

Both almost evenly stacked, and on a board of J T T K, Alistair shoves his stack over the line.

Pete doesn"t hesitate to call and tables J K.

Alistair shows K 3.

The river is a meaningless Ace, and Peter Linton wins!

1st place: Peter Linton £4,373 + ISPT seat + APAT Bracelet + APAT Gold Medal

2nd: Alistair Carins £2,783 + APAT Silver Medal

3rd: Nick Secker £1,855 + APAT Bronze Medal.

after Sophie Stynes and Karl West had bust out in 7th and 6th respectively, Mark Curwen has just gone in 5th - his shove with A2 running into Ross Freeman"s A7 - a7 on the flop sealing Mark"s fate.

Down to 4...

6-max update.

As those watching the live stream will be able to see, there"s been a whole bunch of all-ins, but every single time so far the small stack has doubled up thru the large stack.

Here"s the latest, that remains true to this rule:

Suhail Elorfi"s Qd Ad vs Ross Freeman"s Jh Js

Board:

A s 5h Kh 7h Qs

Suhail scoops a 900k pot, leaving Ross with 450k or so.

Fantastic championship, Thanks to all the Apat team and DTD staff.

Once again played with the right spirit. Enjoyed all 5 tables that i played at.

Congratulations to England. Steve You and your team were magnificent, really good bunch of lads. Cheers.

Congratulations also to Italy and Canada, with commiserations to the very unlucky Spanish.

This really had a world flavour, what with Canada, USA and Malaysia who were a real breath of fresh air.

I would like to thank Our team, Rodders, Warren, Darren and my roomy Gary. You were all great and played with the passion we expect. Superb effort guys.

Now enjoy the rest of the WCOAP.  :)
