Title: Dave Howard - GUKPT Portsmouth sides & APAT Masters Updates
Post by: dwh103 on May 26, 2013, 17:24:08 PM
Hi guys, me again.

Dave Howard (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=110785). This is my second staking request. I have a strong record at APAT and elsewhere, with a track record of making it worthwhile when I cash (6 individual APAT cashes, 3 x 1st (one PLO side not on THM record), 2 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd).

Online: dwh103 on Stars, Full Tilt and P5s, though I don"t play a great deal online.

Previous Staking

http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=13786.0 - Backers already guaranteed 80%+ ROI with one tournament to come. Being backed has certainly improved my objectivity when taking additional lives/add-ons - and I"m taking all your run good...

Schedule:

I am looking to sell up to 60% of the following 4 tournaments, at 1.1

Mon 27th May - GUKPT £75+8 NLHE (+1 re-entry) - 30/48
Wed 29th May - GUKPT £100+10 NLHE 6max (+1 re-entry)
Thur 30th May - GUKPT £75+8 PLO (+1 re-entry)
Sat 1st June - APAT Masters £200+20

£85 for 10%
£42.50 for 5%

Looking for bank transfer or Stars - I"m aware this is last minute but I"ll keep it open until 5pm on Monday.

Budget includes an extra bullet for all the GUKPTs which I obviously hope I"ll have to ship back pro-rata. I won"t be using re-entries as an excuse to gamble and will consider field quality, size, stack and prizepool if I bust in the first 3 levels.

Portsmouth casino standard seems to be very poor when I"ve encountered them (i.e. John Murray ;)) so would expect to have a significant edge, especially at PLO. As with many local tournaments it"s all about dodging the beats and winning that first big pot.

Any Qs, please shout :)

Seeing as I"m so bad, I"d better have some of you to give me a chance of getting something back.

Don"t underestimate the Portsmouth players. There may be some who are questionable but there are quite a few very good players. They don"t travel, so people won"t know them, but they are as good as any I have come across anywhere in the country.

I think your maths are out btw.

I just can"t help myself John, being in Southampton I can"t help but get involved in the whole Pompey baiting thing. And don"t worry, is all meant in jest - everyone always get suitable respect. You playing the lot plus the main?

Maths:
83*2 + 110*2 + 83*2 + 220 = 772
772*1.1 = 849.20, rounded up the 80p for simplicity.

You"re not the first person to make me second-guess myself, so let me know if there"s anything glaring?

I might not play any actually. I have always wanted this here and now the schedule just isn"t calling me. I think it"s since I found that the ME was clashing with Wembley, but the rest of the week doesn"t look all that either.

I was assuming there wouldn"t be reg on re-entries. If there is, so be it.

I"ll have 10%.

Thanks John. Yeah I think Grosvenor do that with their re-entries, if not then I"ll obviously refund anything applicable.

I"m hoping it gets decent runners, really have no idea how well it"ll do though. I heard a rumour that they"ve amended the ME starting stack from 50k to 20k, but with a £50k guarantee I don"t think it"s a massive problem. Normal Grosvenor organisation - but I"d play it for sure if it wasn"t for Wembley.

Will drop you a PM shortly.

Hi Dave, happy to take 10% which will take you to 50% or 5% which takes you to 45% sold, whichever you prefer, just take from previous stake, if 10% let me know how much to top up, cheers.

Cheers Brian, I was amending the % available in the original post without actually thinking that it would cause some confusion!

You have 10% if you want it, will drop you a PM in a sec.

Mon 27th May - £75 NLHE - 30/48

Disappointing start with only 20 or so runners reg"d, but late entries and a handful of re-entries boosted it to 48, so a reasonable pool - bit short of Grosvenor"s slightly ambitious expectations.

As for what I said about Pompey players, I stand by it. To a man, every single one I"ve been at a table with has been utterly dreadful. Maybe I"m just lucky! The issue for me is that there were 3 of them, in a row, to my left. No option but to nit it up, passing and limping hands I"d normally raise. Monsters like T2o being shown, massive overbets as standard.

With 7.5k starting I pretty much hovered +/- 500 chips for the first 4 levels. One uber whale busted and another was moved at 100/200 so I was able to open up a bit. Sadly it didn"t go as planned. The one remaining fish limps @ 150/300/25 out of his 4.8k stack. A guy I know from Soton pops it up to 700. I 100% know he"s iso-raising something like JT, so I 3bet on the button to 1850 with A3o. Limper Villain finds a call for 40% of his stack OOP, the other guy folds.

Flop AK9ddd, the old guy snap shoves his 3k into the 4.5k pot. 2nd time he"s donk shoved like this, given the speed and lack of checking his cards I doubt he has 1 diamond or a big hand. Suspect I"m calling for a likely chop against a raggy Ace, or outside chance of being ahead vs a K, so call, get shown A5ss before the inevitable 5 on the river.

Jam my last 10BBs in with JTcc, to get slowrolled by AA. Justice was not done :(

The players in Portsmouth are the best in the country. If you couldn"t you beat them, you need to stick to the soft games in Southampton.

In this episode of Man vs Manflu, Manflu wins :(

Really not feeling 100%, eyes and nose streaming, headache etc - don"t think playing what should be an aggroish £100 6max is the best idea, I"d just be flushing everyone"s money away - so apologies guys, going to have to bail on this one.

Hate you.

Though to be fair you are in the perfect position to comment on my boss commentating as you spent all the FTs in the booth with me.

Thur 30th May - £75+8 PLO - 13/33

Borderline decision to play, but dragged my bloodshot eyes to Portsmouth. Everyone thought I was drunk, though one person did suggest heroin. Not sure if he was joking. Still, expected dire play and was planning on nitting it up as a result.

Rock up to the casino half an hour early, or so I thought. Tournament had started at 6, awesome. Not the worst thing as I"d have been pretty tight anyway - as long as I pick up some hands I should be able to exhibit superior pre-flop hand selection and get my stack in in dominating spots. So I regged during level 3.

Unfortunately never saw a hand. I"d have smashed up a Badugi or PLO8 tournament though. Anything vaguely playable was UTG - AKK9 which was raised before folding to the BBs call then pot donk on a horrible flop, complete with table chat. Limped called 7765ds which didn"t hit too hard on an A95 flop. Saw absolutely nothing in late position or the blinds.

Never got above starting stack and wasn"t too shy about raising, only picked up one small double up with KJT6ds v QQT8 so no idea how I got this deep! Eventually raised A932 with clubs on the button and ran into AA98 with nut clubs - great spot :\

Sat 1st June - £200+20 APAT Masters - 24/85

Finally shook off the manflu, and rocked up at Wembley for a really bitty tournament. Can"t really think of anything to describe it. Sat on 4 of the 9/10 tables on day 1 which wasn"t overly helpful, but I had really good seats on the first three but unfortunately I had the worst seat in the tournament for the last one and day 2. CL Nicky who was putting the pressure on to my direct left, Julian Fournier who was quite erratic to his left and then the eventual winner on his left (who"d followed me around the other tables, and also had the stack and ability to put pressure on).

Never got a great deal above average at any point. Made an error with 99 to get it in vs KK in a big pot fairly early, but river bailed me out there. Lost a huge pot midway through day 1 against the eventual winner, 89 in the BB vs his J9 on 9439Q, leaving me with 3400 at 400/800/100. Of the next 20 hands I must shove around 70% of them, I get back up to averageish despite doubling two people up! Sadly my best run of cards coincided with my short stack status, if I had a big stack I may have ended up being involved in big pots - but my stack size just always seemed to be wrong for the situation. On occasions I did hit the flop the board would generally run out pretty grimly, costing me value if not the pot (turn straight with Q9 on JT28, river pairs the board. 3bet AA and get peeled, QQx flop etc). Generally picked up chips by getting away with murder on a frequent basis!

Hated not being redrawn going into day 2, so was stuck with my nasty seat and it proved my undoing. CL had 3bet both my opens on that table, but when I open 77 in LP and he 3bets small again, I have a really awkward stack to 4bet with, and a bit of value in my hand getting 4:1 pre, so just peel OOP and get involved down the streets when he flops trips on a paired board.

Leaves me with about 12BBs, get one shove through, then shove my resultant 15BBs UTG with ATo. UTG+2 calls for pretty much stacks with KQ with only the 5 people left behind. Flop KKx. Bleurgh.

So when all is said and done. I played exactly 50% of the amount reserved for buy-ins, so at least you guys see half your stake money back.

Sort of got close without ever threatening a cash, which is most unlike me. I normally crash and burn spectacularly in a massive pot, but these tournaments were pretty grindy :(

Have dropped PMs, please drop me your bank details.

Thanks for the backing, sorry I couldn"t bink a profit in the Masters for us all!
