Any NFL fans in APAT land?
Massive Washington Redskins fan here - total diehard for as long as i can remember....and i can remember a long time ago...back to the nicky horne days on C4 when Bonnie Tylers "I need a hero" was the theme tune!!
New season starts tonight - if there are any fans, be good to have a natter about all things NFL - make a few predictions - and if youre of the inclination, there is a very easy to play (and free!) fantasy game that NFLUK.com operate - ive created a league for you to join if youd like :
MTS Fantasy League (password : redskins) on www.nfluk.com
basic weekly roster needs setting where you have a budget to spend.
www.nfluk.com
Although i think the Redskins are up for a good season (as long as our star QB stays healthy!) i think the Superbowl will be fought out between the Seattle Seahawks and the Cincinatti Bengals....any people who like a flutter would be well advised to pop a quid or two on them....especially on the latter who are 18/1 to win the SB and 10/1 to win their Conference.
hope theres a few about i can have a natter to about the awesome NFL!
p.s Dallas Cowboys fans need not bother. ;)

I used to be a fan that long ago also... John Riggins for Washington... I liked New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.. I was watching around the time of "The Fridge". I used to go and watch BAF in Liverpool, The Centurions...
The C4 show was brilliant but I went off it when they changed the format of the show from all action highlights...

San Diego fan for my sins!!!
Already in a Fantasy League on Yahoo, got Peyton Manning playing in tonihgts game, lets go Grandpa!!!!
Off to Wembley with my brother and JBWorldwide this month too, which we really cant wait for. My brother and mate are off to watch a San Diego game in november when we go to Vegas, also catching a University of Las Vegas game too!
-
Who did Walter Payton play for.... LA Raiders was it...? Now he was good..

Chicago Bears - "Sweetness" was his nickname....one of the best running backs ever to grace the game.

The Bolts eh...one of the most underachieving teams of the last decade. Always quite liked them, especially when Tomlinson was playing - but boy have they regressed and im not sure what to make of them now. Envy you going over to watch them though - that will be amazing. Top of my bucket list is to watch the Redskins at Fedex Field.....itll happen...one day!

Ahhh John Riggins.....what a legend. I remember him rumbling all over defences in the early 80"s with Joe Theismann under center. Those were the days.
Few years later did William Perry come to limelight for the Bears - known more for their stifling defence than their offense.
Buffalo Bills notorious for appearing in 4 consective Superbowls in the early 90s....and losing them all. Including some absolute hammerings as well...including one to my very own Redskins...the last time we won a Superbowl. Im not sure the Bills have been anywhere closer either since that 4 and out!

Damn you. Can I join one more fantasy league?
Oh go on then...

Not that many but tbf I dont have time for much at all.
Focusing on the one on blonde and APAT - and trying to ignore the leagues I did my mock drafts on on nfl.com (which add to a stupid number lol) but on one of them - OMG my team...
" I drafted from the 8 ball.

I"m a massive 49ers fan. Have watched the NFL since it first came to Channel 4 in the early 80"s.
I used to play as well in the late 80"s - Mid 90"s in the British League. We made the British Final back in "95
http://britbowlfilms.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/1995-bafa-bowl-div-3-gwent-v-oxford.html
I"ve been to a few of the regular season games at Wembley including the 49ers vs Broncos game a few years ago. Not going this year though.
Did anyone used to go to the London Monarchs games? I went to a couple of their 1st season games at Wembley, and they were great fun. Sold out games, and a great atmosphere.

great stuff....i played a season or two for a local team based in Stoke - absolutely loved it - sadly, thanks to years of football i have (and had) the ankles and knees of an 80 year old with barely a cartilege between them, so i didnt last for long - but started off at TE, then moved to a DL before i had to stop.
Always been ante the Niners - suppose they were the Man Utd of the 80s and 90s - plus they were usually the team that dumped the Redskins out of the NFC playoffs. But its exciting times to be a Niners fan again.
Only ever been to one live NFL game, and wont go to a Wembley game unless the Redskins are there. I was close to going to the Chargers v Saints game, as i have an affinity to New Orleans - but didnt go in the end.

Nice pick up of Charles at 10 there mate - as said before i think hes primed for a huge season and have him at #3 in the RBs overall - only behind AP and Foster. So to get him at 10 is very good. You must have looked to lock up Manning with your second pick? Must admit my drafts have usuall gone RB/RB/WR first three levels and been happy to get someone like Matt Ryan, Cam Newton or even Kaepernick/Wilson/Romo somewhere around round 5 or 6. Britt is a nice option to have on your bench.

I started off as a WR, then moved to Free Safety, where I won a trophy from BAFA for the "Most interceptions in a year". Also played Kick Returner and Punt Retuner, which was great fun. I could tell you about our trip to Guernsey, but that is a long, long story in itself.

My league is playing slightly different to norm, in that starters are, QB, RB, 2x WR, 1xTE 1x TE/WR/RB, K, DEF

I"ve been a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers since I was about 14, so a long, long, time ago now!.
It"s fair to say they"ve had better starts to the season (being 0-3 so far) but on Sunday I"ll fulfill a lifelong ambition to see them play live. Can"t wait! :)
I did previously see San Fran vs Washington Redskins, way back in the early 90"s. But that was just an exhibition game, so not the same. This"ll be my first real live game.
-
As long as Adrian Petersen runs for 200 yards and 5 TD"s I will be happy.

that is a good offer - the Broncos have an outstanding chance - my preseason tip of a Bengals v Seahawks SB looking very good though - wouldnt change that at the moment.
Dolphins - worst 3-0 team EVER!!!
-
Can"t see San Fran winning it, Denver or New Orleans for me
-
I know feck all about American Football. The only game I"ve watched was in Vegas and the side entertainment and free food that evening "might" have been the reason for going / staying.
Anywhoo as I"m always up for a punt I put £25 on Dolphins to win this super bowl thing as they had first dibs on some one at the start of the season before anyone else who was pretty good.. or something.. feck knows.. before it all started at 38 on Betfair.. hoping they"d get off to a good start and lay off as usual for a little beer money.. however I"m told by the Stockton Rock that they"ve won 3 out of 3
This is confirmed on here by Dann.. however.. I checked the latest odds and they"re now 44 on Betfair. Worse than before it all started.. and they"re undeated. WTF?
Dolphins - worst 3-0 team EVER!!!
Although this might explain it...
-
i fully expect them to get walloped this week when they visit New Orleans - the Browns, Colts and Falcons isnt the easiest of starts, but its not like they have won all 3 convincingly and much tougher games lie ahead - they will come back to the pack very soon
-
Dolphins have a reasonable chance of winning their division. This is due to the fact that the usual AFC East winner, New England Patriots, are terrible this season. The other 2 teams in the AFC East, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, are always terrible. So, Dolphins to win the division by default.
Phil TC: Suggest you look to lay off Miami on Betfair just before the playoffs (end of December).
-
Crunch time in the NFL tonight for several teams! Who"s going to be watching, and who are you going to back?
I"m hoping for the following results:
[ x ] Steelers to beat Cleveland
[ x ] Jets to beat Dolphins (unlikely as Jets have nothing to play for).
[ x ] Bengals to beat the Ravens
[ . ] Chiefs beat the Chargers (unlikely as Chiefs have already secured their place in the playoffs, so will be fielding their 3rd string team)...
25/1 on that accum. on betfair (though I"m not silly enough to actually back it!).
Also, did anyone play John Maddens American Football on the Megadrive back in the day? Me and Mark the Shark have played it a whole load recently (via an emulator and netplay). He"s whupped me a fair bit so far tbf, winning seasons 1 and 2. We"re 3 games into the 3rd 10-game season, and he"s 2-1 up, but I"ve still some faith! :D
p.s. Pitttssburhghghghghghg Steeeeleeeersssssss!!!
edit: final results update above
-
Meh. Kinda wish I had stuck a "lucky 15" on the above now!... Still only HT tho, and KC will almost certainly ruin the party for the uber-payout...

And so it came to pass. What an incredibly exciting season finale for a Steelers fan. 3 out of 4 results went the right way, with the 4th looking nailed on, but a crazy change in fortunes (and at least 1 dubious reffing decision) meant it went right down to the last few minutes of overtime. Alas, not to be.
-
Wildcard weekend! Exciting :D
Anyone sticking a bet on? I"m going for a simple 4-fold with the following selections:
Chiefs vs Colts
Saints vs Eagles
Chargers vs Bengals
49ers vs Packers
£10 bet pays £72.40
-
Chiefs vs Colts
Wow!!! Did anyone else watch this?
What an incredible game! Just unreal! You couldn"t make it up.
-
one of the most surreal SuperBowls ever!
Seahawks made a blistering start - not so much the safety but the huge tackles landed on the Broncos receivers and then the big plays that Wilson and the Seattle offense put on the Broncos D.
The more it went on the more unbelievable it became - Denver just seemed to freeze and look desperate whilst Seattle just looked and played like they were a class apart.
I dont think anyone could have predicted a scoreline like 43-8 - this will likely go down as one of the most memorable - but worst - SuperBowls in history and it will seriously taint the claim that Denvers offense is the best in NFL history.
Few can doubt tho that the Legion of Boom and the rest of the Seattle D will go down as one of the best defensive units in NFL history!
Roll on next season........
