The last couple of years we have held a WSOP fantasy style competition on the forum..
I know it"s a few months away as yet, but was looking to gage an interest for this years?
Chris Hiam kindly ran the comp along with some help from myself by running spreadsheets and collecting points etc.
We need to tweak the scoring system if we are going to run it this year so any ideas would be great..
E.g .. Points for winning an event, points for making FT, points for cashing, Captains scoring double points? Points for POS? Etc.. Should there be a subs available?.. Categories.. ME previous winners, European players, Female players, UK players etc etc
Haven"t spoken to Chris about running this years, but is there someone who is a wizard at excel spreadsheets etc who would like to volunteer to help/run? I"m happy to check for results each day, but can"t do all that excell tosh and spreadsheets ;D

Really very keen to hold the fantasy WSOP comp in a slightly different way this year Carl, with some added prizes also. Details will be out before the WCOAP. 2014. ;)

Haven"t forgotten this Carl. We"re having some discussions about this with a third party which may delay our ability to run the WSOP comp. Can I suggest you proceed as originally planned to save possible disappointment.

How about we offer a live main event credit for the winner?

Ok open for discussion again ;D
Think we need to get everything set in stone at least 3 weeks before start of series.. Which starts on Tuesday 27th May.
Categories?.. Discuss
Previous ME winner?
UK player?
Female player?
European player?
American player?
How many wild cards?
Or do you say scrap categories and allow to pick whole team of players regardless, how many 6? 8?
Scoring?
10 for win?
5 for RU?
3 for FT?
2 for cash?
Bonus of 15 for player who scores most points through series (WSOP Vegas only)
Prize pool..
£10 winner takes all or split between 1,2,3 or £5 each?
£5 series sweat and additional £5 ME sweat?
Maybe some added prize aswell but that"s a maybe ;D
So who"s interested? Really need 15-20 people to make it worth while and need a volunteer to post a excell sheet for clarity.. I know Chris is a willing helper as am I to collect scores..

BOOM!!! very generous thanks Des I"m sure that would generate some interest :) I doff my cap sir

This is an example of what a team could prehaps look like..
Previous ME Winner.. Chris Moneymaker
Female player... Vanessa Rousso
UK player.... Sam Grafton
European Player... Elky
American... David Baker
Wild cards.. Kevin McPhee , Barry Greenstein, John Murray
Or Scrap categories and just choose 6 or 8 random players?
Scoring.. If a player wins any event.. 10 points, 5 points for a RU, 3 points for any FT and 2 points for a cash..
HU events 10 winner 5 for RU thinking 3 points for top 4 and 2 for cash?
Prize.. Keep it free and all play for the added value seat that has been kindly donated by APAT or have a cash kitty at £10 for a series and ME only sweat or £5 for those who just want one of either of their choice?
So far only Chris and me have said we are interested surely there are a few others who would like to participate :)

Id be in.....input fwiw.....drop the US player but keep others and maybe 3/4 wildcards.
Scoring looks good....£10 split top 2/3 depending on number of entries imo and an additional extra £5/10 ME sweat.
In whatever decided though so just my opinion obv!!
-
In, will have a think about categories/points tomorrow.

agree about not bothering with an American player

everything else looks good though Carl.....can just add and additional wildcard for the US player!!

I"m in. Think that the points are too heavily weighted for the win.
Blonde do this and last year their scoring system was
Bracelet = 5
FT = 3 (top 8 in HU tourneys)
ITM = 1
For the main:
N9 = 10
ITM = 5
This gives everyone a chance going into the main

Wild cards have to be your own choice IMO would/could win it for the owner..

Wildcards definitely own choice :)
High stakes would be people like Ivey etc as guessed above.

Absolutely not. Totally hate that idea. I want to find my own players who I think will do well, preferably ones that others have overlooked.

I think this was suggested as ease of tracking cashes etc.. I must agree to a certain extent with John as I prehaps have some picks that wouldn"t make the 10 listed in each catergorie.. But I will go with what the majority of players see fit. I"m happy to have a list of 10 players to choose from and if I don"t see a player in that list have the option to choose my own, but this would be down to the person who is willing to do the spreadsheet?
How are you with excell John? Could/would you like to volunteer to update scores, I"m happy to look for cashes each day via poker news and I"m sure we an all pull together to help..

Excel is the other love of my life apart from poker, and it doesn"t mistreat me the way poker does, so I wouldn"t mind doing that. Using a lookup could avoid the need to search for piles of players manually.
-
Prefer not having a list to choose from and having to find my own "squad", it means the teams can be more varied
-
In for this, props and all please.
I have no opinion on the format, will be happy with whatever is chosen. My only advice would be to just copy the format and scoring from another forum - 2+2, blonde etc. Work is then done for you rather than trying to create something from scratch.

Think we can have a rule then that we have catergories with 10 picks that are chosen by organisers.. If a player wants to choose this option it"s fine, or if another player wants to prehaps choose a different player that falls into that c atergorie then that is fine..for example previous ME winners there are 10 listed and say Doyle Brunson is not on the list of ten, and you want him in your squad you can bring him in. Regarding if there is any confusion over a players nationality then I think it is only fair that we use the Hendon Mobs info regarding this..?
I think this is a fair way of going about it, we have to respect Johns wishes IMO as he is the defending champ I believe :D
So are we happy to have 6 sub catergories and 2 wild card picks to have a team of 8?
If so what 6 sub Catergories are we wanting? I like Adams choices albeit the 2013 POTY prehaps this might include many of the players in the other 5.. Maybe another suggestion? Or you all happy with it as it is?
Scoring,I like Robs idea with going as the same as Blonde did last year.. Also happy with Adams suggestion of having a chosen Captain that scores double points..
What you guys think?
-
Yeah, the reason I suggested categories of 10 is for ease of searching for players when it comes to cashes etc. 60 + wildcards a lot easier than say nearly 200 + wildcards!
-
Ok folks I have done a draft of catergories with 10 players in each. You have a choice of picking a player from the catergorie or if you think you have a better pick then that"s fine as long as they fulfil the requirement..

Do we have 2 wild cards making a squad of 7 or 3 wild cards making 8?
As John has kindly volunteered to do the spreadsheets I would be happy for him to make this decision..
Also are we all happy with choosing a captain that scores double points?
Think Robs scoring system seems fairest and if anyone has any objections then we will go with this..
Entry fee £10 to cover both series and ME or £5 if you just want one of the options?
I don"t mind holding funds or if anyone else wants to then I"m happy for them to, PayPal or bank transfer so prize pool is kept separate from say stars transfer..
Personally I would like to keep my picks a secret until the start of series, so if John is happy receiving teams via pm then think that would be a good way around others theiving my winning squad ;D
Closing date for entries and payment.. May 25th.

Have three wildcards imo - why not?
I"m happy to receive teams by pm and steal the best ones from each for myself.
I"ll pm my team to Carl early just to avoid any wondering.
-
3 wildcards seems fine to me. Will be in at some point.
-
Please PM your team that you choose to John Murray (Mintrav).
The rules are pretty simple, choose 1 player from the catergories below, and 3 wild cards of your choice. You can either choose a player listed or draft in one of your own choice, that fits that particular catergory. You also need to nominate 1 of your players to be team captain, this player will score double points for you. Closing date will be on May 25th.
Scoring..
5 points if they win a Bracelet
3 points for a Final Table apperance (last 8 of HU event)
1 point for a cash
2 points for ME cash
5 points for Nov 9
10 points for ME win
Prizes..
We will hold a prizepool if you decide to join the payed game, which will cost £10 if you want both series and ME sweat, or £5 if you just want one or other (please state when submitting team). Depending on how many play will depend on how many places will pay. (this will be decided when registration closes on May 25th)
Des has kindly offered a added value prize consisting of a live main event ticket which will also be won by the winning contestant..
If you decide to play for fun you would still be in with a chance of winning this.

I have received Carl"s team and have pm"d mine to him. I could have pinched someone good from his but there wasn"t anyone you would want to steal. Although we can choose eight players, it was quite difficult to decide who to leave out. There were a couple I wanted to include but couldn"t fit in. Maybe we need ten next time.
-
Four entries received so far. 26 players have been selected, 1 of them three times (!), four players picked twice and the other 21 only the once (aw).
Hurry up! Time is running out! Only twenty days left to get your entries in!

You have a choice of picking a player from the catergorie or if you think you have a better pick then that"s fine as long as they fulfil the requirement..
How do you define a "High Stakes Player" or should we just pick from the given list in this case?
I will be in for both by the way, can you PM payment details. I am going to hold off sending my time until probably a few days before.

Hi Mark "high stakes" i guess is a pretty wide range.. But i guess its more for the bigger pros on the circuit who stump up the min $25k buy ins.. Example you wouldnt get lots of the lesser known pros playing. Names not on the list could be the likes of Jason Mercier, Richard Jong, Paul Newey to say but a few.. Im sure if your unsure if they play bigger buy ins you could check via Highstakespokerdatabase.com

5 days left for any one else wanting to draft in a squad..
Registration will CLOSE 9.00pm Sunday evening, any team registered but yet to pay will still be eligible for the National seat added value, but not the prize pool..

I just noticed the scoring details. Someone who finishes 600th in the ME will receive the same points as the winner of any other event and more than anyone who reaches any other final table. Doesn"t seem right to me.

5 points if they win a Bracelet
3 points for a Final Table apperance (last 8 of HU event)

I used Robs scoring formulae as it gives most a chance going into the ME.. But indeed seems a little rewarding if you min cash, would you like me to change it to say 2 points for a ME cash? Or leave it as it is? Up to you guys...

I think it"s ok. I would have gone with one point for a cash, as it"s no more difficult (prob easier) to cash than in the other events, but two is certainly more equitable than five. The odd point probably won"t matter in the end anyway.
-
Not too bothered about changing the ME scoring if that"s what everyone wants (I.e not just a few people). The rationale behind my idea was to give everyone a chance going into the main. If you are 15 points behind first then the main is a non event.
However, 10 points for the ME winner could possibly stretch this out until November, whereas paying FT only means the comp is done and dusted once the series is over in July.
Vote to remove extra points for the winner
-
I"d just double points for the ME. 10 going to the chipleader so we"re not waiting til November.

We have had eighteen entries:
Carl Pilgrim
John Murray
Adrian Long
Dann Williams
Rich Baker
Dave Howard
Gary Phillips
Warren Jones
Mark Porter
Simon Brooke
Dave Paxton
Adam Sharples
Craig Dawson
Rob Swindells
Steve Ball
Debbie Kimm
Chris Hiam
Asa McGrath
63 players have been chosen.
Three players have appeared on at least half of the entries. One was picked thirteen times, one appeared eleven times and one was chosen nine times.
The 13-picks player was chosen as Captain on four entries and the 9-picks player was chosen as Captain three times, but the 11-times pickee wasn"t chosen as Captain by anyone. Isn"t that interesting? Two other players were chosen as Captain twice, but the other seven Captains were all selected just once. Only six entries included a Captain at first pass.
Having unique selections doesn"t mean that someone is more likely to win, as it is about the balance of the team. However, the entrants with the most unique selections are Adam, Chris and Steve, with five each, closely followed by Craig, Paxo, and me, with four. The entrants with the fewest unique selections are Debs, Rob and Simon, with none.

Please check your own players in case I have copied anything incorrectly. I assume people will do that anyway, but no corrections (other than spelling or format) will be possible once the WSOP starts. I haven"t researched the spelling on players I don"t know - I have assumed that you have your player correct. If it is wrong, his results won"t come through on the look-up, but that should soon become apparent and can be fixed. I may also need to amend names if the WSOP uses a different format than above, eg Phillip rather than Phil.
-
Another couple of interesting(!) statistics:
The most-selected players in one category were Phil Hellmuth and Vanessa Selbst, with eleven each in the Main Event Winner and Female categories, Selbst"s dominance being partly due to a shortage of credible alternatives.
The player selected in the most categories, surprisingly, was Sam Trickett, who was selected in the British, European, High Stakes and Wild Card categories.

Think he will be playing the cash games more than tournaments?.. I know they have some huge cash games running during the series.. Although his new affiliation with Everest may see him contracted to playing events? Will be interesting to see.

What are the official rules on changes to teams?
I set the deadline date very close to start of the series as to negate any changes in teams, the team you choose from the start is the team you have util the end.. Subs where mentioned but no feedback was given and as we have never had subs in any other year then this year was the same..

No worries. Just felt it needed clarification.

Damn it, I knew there was something I was ment to do before the start of the week.had my team picked ages ago. Oh well, I will look on with interest , this is a great idea. Can"t believe nobody has got the grinder in their team tho. Always runs deep. GL all

Good shout. John as picked The Grinder. He was on my shortlist but decided on Amir Lehavot as my last Wild Card. I might regret not putting him in.

That"s interesting. I wonder if others had tough decisions over players. I really wanted to include Mike McDonald and Amanda Musumeci, but couldn"t fit them in.
-
Had a tough choice of two out of Scott Seiver, Eric Seidel and Phil Ivey.... Decided on the first two thinking that Ivey might be distracted by law suits/cash games etc.... Also tried to go for predominantly mixed game players as they will have smaller fields so easier to FT.... hoping it will be a good strat... gl all (me).
-
Ivey will play everything. He has been taking bets of $5K minimum at even money for either him or Negreaunu to win a bracelet this year. I expect he will have a lot of money riding on bracelet bets as always.
As the WSOP has moved the highest mixed games buyins to $10K this year ($3K/$5K last year), the strategy looks to be mixed game guys who are bankrolled to play all the $10K"s. Best chance of bracelets is obviously in these small field mixed games.
-
Yeah, I have read that Ivey is playing everything. Also read the same about Trickett, though I would question whether he is up to it, given his awful WSOP record. Happy to see so many going for Selbst, given how badly she stank last year. Hope she does as well this year.
-
Surprised to see no-one has gone for that young up and comer Dave Howard from Team Gotham fame... am fully expecting him to be shipping two bracelets this summer.

According to recent rumours Dave has given up poker and is now concentrating on track athletics, ESP the 100m sprint..

The main event does clash with the London Diamond League meeting. Decisions, decisions.
Though you"ve done me a disservice Carl, definitely doubling up with the 200m now.

I know it doesn"t count since I missed the deadline but I would like to share what my team would have been. It is very hard, harder than I thought to pick a team with so many great players available but iv gone for a team with aggressive youth as well as seasoned experience , a few action junkies that will play most events and a few old guard that always run deep .
Phil Hellmuth
Sam trickett
Vanessa Selbts
Ole Schemion
Phil Ivey
Daniel Negreanu

lol - too late for me.
Would have had at least 5 horses in first event .
Selbst (Female), Helmouth (Main Event) & Vamplew (UK).
Would"ve have gone for Negraneu (High Stakes) and Ivey (Wildcard).
All five gonna play loads of events.
European - ??? Ole Schemion I guess I don"t if he"s going - don"t think it"ll happen but he"s running hot at the moment.
Wildcard 2 - Mizarchi (Grinder)
Wildcard 3 - Brock Parker
This would have been my selection (unless I could have chidwick for European) :-)
Think Scott Seiver, Stephen Chidwick and Justin Bonomo could also do well.
Would like to know how I would have got on.. Any chance of being added for fun?
Good luck to all entries.

I think the first five pick themselves tbh - I expect most teams would / should have them.
Do we have the full team list....

Here is the link to the spreadsheet, where we can keep track of the scores.
[link removed - see latest link]
I just need to paste in the results after each tournament.
I have put it on OneDrive. If that doesn"t work, I"ll move it to Google Docs.

Last payment received.. Prize pool is now £160 so split equal into series and ME £80 each along with £82.50 National seat as added value for overall highest points scorer over series..
Need some feed back on pay structure.. Winner takes all? Or £50 first £30 second.. I will go with majority..

Happy with winner takes all

Too late to suggest that we drop the ME section and just have a prize for the points, I guess? People pick their teams according to who they think will play well across all the events, not who they think will get lucky in the ME. I"ll suggest that for next year then.

Hi :) I"m new to APAT. But thought i"d post a team that hasn"t scored if it"s not too late? If so then just for fun.

2) Erika Moutinho/Sands (Female.)
3) Sam Trickett (British.)
4) Viktor Blom (European.)
5) Phillip Greussem (High Roller) not sure how to spell his name.
Wildcards.
1) Phil Ivey. captain? If allowed. If not then Trickett.
2) Antonio Esfandiari.
3) Mike McDonald.
Thanks.
-
This maybe my only chance to say this until Selbst wins :(
I have a point so I may be in the lead!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-

Calvin Anderson has a point for his cash
Event#3.. Maria Ho cashing along with Stephen Chidwick and Dan Smith.. Down to last 6 no notables left.
Event#4.. Bubble has burst and no notables out yet but still in with def points.. Olivier Busquet, Allen Kessler, Marvin Rettenmeier, Sam Trickett.. (unless poker news hasn"t updated)
Event#5.. Still 52 left 18 get paid.. Some big names still in doing well.. John Monnette, Paul Volpe, Barry G, Matt Ashton, Ivey, Seiver are just a few..

If none of the team has scored anything so far, I"d think it was okay. I like that you have brought in two new players that no-one else picked - and especially in those two categories. Anyone else got a view?

Fine by me John.. Entirely up to you IMO as you are the one having to adjust spreadsheet etc.. Obv we would draw the line now as events are well and truly in the swing.. I"m sure no one will mind if sir donk would like to participate.

All good with me... agree that we"ll have to draw the line now though.

John why did you lose faith in Amanda?? 2 events and 2 cashes ..tut tut ;D
I never lost faith in Amanda. Don"t you say that I lost faith in Amanda. She"s the best.
I also have huge faith in Loni though. Choosing one of them was my hardest decision.
I"m willing to have £5 with anyone that either of them will finish ahead of Selbst in our league from this point.
Better still, I"ll take Amanda Musumeci and Loni Harwood v Selbst and Trickett for any amount.

Dru Cloke playing for fun..Sir Donk welcome to APAT Dru.
I"m sure John will add you to the list.. That"s it no more late entries!!

You"re on. Even though Selbstian has the huge advantage of being able to buy into all the $10k short-handed games, he still won"t beat Loni.
I didn"t have have Amanda cos I didn"t think she"d get as many cashes as the many-cashed Chiu, Ausmus & Mizrachi, so had nowhere to put her, but I"d have her before your guy any day.
I notice you didn"t take up the offer of matching Selbst with Sam (one WSOP cash a year) Trickett, holder of the record for the most successive WSOP entries without a cash.

While most of the people were at the Rio in hopes of taking down a guaranteed $1 million first place prize, Phil Hellmuth was in the back corner of the Amazon room making a run at poker history of his own by making the final table in the $1,500 Razz event.
http://www.bluff.com/news/phil-hellmuth-makes-a-run-at-record-14th-bracelet-while-millionaire-maker-packs-the-rio-54885/

With lots of guys having Hellmuth in their team some points will be winging their way to your team by the end of the night.. Simon will be praying for a Phil Hellmuth win and Jason Mercier win :) currently sitting on 6 points Simon can score some huge points if his 2 heroes do the business as he has Captains double points to add..
In other news John "the reigning CHampion" Murray is obv going for a slow (very) slow and steady start, yet to score ::)

Hurrah, I have Phil Hellmuth & Jason Mercier too, with PH as captain. I don"t want to come last in this thing, or else I"ll never hear the end of it!

Well done Debs 2 good picks, Mercier just fell short of a final table but did cash so you will bag a point for that.. Phil has reached the final table so that"s 3 points in the bag (doubled for capt=6) if he wins you will score a very healthy 10 fat points!!
-
PH beaten to his 14th bracelet by Ted Forrest.... Still a healthy 3 points for 2nd place though... By my reckoning half the field are on 11-13 points, so still very tight.
-
I seem to owe Loni an apology... She did manage a cash in the milly maker.
-
Event#6 is now over and points are bagged for.. Eugene Katchalov and Allen Kessler other scorers David Vamplew, Joseph Cheong David "Bakes" Baker if anyone has them.
Evemt#5 Jason Mercier was only points scorer.
Event#7.. A mammoth HU Hellmuth just fell short of his 14th bracelet but a healthy 3 points for ft (doubled for lots)
Event#8.. Loni Harwood scored her first of many points!, along with Maria Ho .. 178 remain Allen Kessler still in as is Chris Klodniki.
-
Some news from twitter that Eugene Katchalov has finished in Vegas for this years WSOP..flying back to Kiev in a couple of days??
A big blow for those who have picked him >:(
-
Brock Parker a player who I must admit to never of hearing before is tearing up at the mixed games, after his 5th in the Razz last night he defeated Ashby HU in the Omaha HL.. Jason has him in his team a magnificent pick!! Jason was unfortunately too late to register for the paid version but we are tracking his team all the same..

Yeah he hit 2 bracelets last year or year before I think. looks like he on form too!
In all honesty I may have had selbst as Team captain but thought no one would believe me given she was running deep in the $25K at the time. Imagine Helmouth will play more events though. Players championship is going to be interesting...
-
4 of my picks still in event 13, 37 players left 16 get paid. Fingers crossed for point point points
-
7 players remain in event #13
top 3 in chips:
Paul Volpe US 780,000
Jason Mercier US 510,000
Daniel Negreanu CA 415,000
-
5 players remain in #13
plenty of interest for Apat fantasy players
1 Jason Mercier 900,000
2 Larry Wright 465,000
3 Daniel Negreanu 415,000
4 Paul Volpe 405,000
5 Brian Rast 365,000
-
Ship it Paul Volpe!
-
Spreadsheet is updated to Event 14, plus Event 16 (15 still running).
[link removed - see latest link]
Event 17 has been APAT's tournament. APAT cashers - Richard Hodgkins, John Murray, John Miller.
And, from 4,425 starters, Brendan Byrne"s brother, Sean Byrne, is currently 6/38.
-
I"m just looking out for my own team here but point from event 13 haven"t been added to the individual/team score, lol
-
Some different formatting of names affected the lookup, Barrie - fixed it now.
It"s very tight at the top. Debbie is leading, being the only person to have Hellmuth, Negraneu, Selbst and Mercier in her team.

I have input #15 from 3rd down, as we had a few cashes. It"s heads-up, so I"ll add in the final two later but no-one has either of them in their team.
In other news, Sean Byrne has gone out 38th for $12.7k. Don"t know the details yet.
-
Hi John great work so far hope your enjoying Vegas ...
You have missed Allen Kessler scoring twice :) he cashed in events 6@8 the shoot out and milly maker so I need one more point ..
Will guess others will track scores for their players aswell, Hendon Mob is pretty up to date.
-
Hi John... congrats on your cash, hope you"re enjoying Vegas.
I think there might be a few results wrong for my players. I have up to and including event 16 (not 15) I have;
- Stephen Chidwick cashing 3 times, he only has 1 point on the spreadsheet
- Phil Ivey cashing once, down as 0
- Erik Seidel cashing once, down as zero.
Cheers
Simon
-
Some issues with name formats again. Hopefully, they are resolved now.
-
Spreadsheet updated to Event #19.
So far, 45 of the 66 players selected have failed to record a single point, 10 have achieved just 1 point and only 11 have scored more than that.

Think you still may of missed a few cashes.. David Vamplew cashed and Brock Parker has FT one and Won another.. I can check on Hendon Mob if anyone needs to add points.
Knew i shouldnt of taken pi$$ when i added your name to poss players you would of scored more points than 3 of my "pros" lol..
-
The ones you mention are on the Results sheet but are not getting picked up in the Points sheet due to formatting, which is getting annoying. Also, Parker has been reported as Brock for one event and as John for the other. I"ll sort those ones out later. If anyone spots any others, please let me know.
-
Is anyone else having problems viewing the spreadsheet? It worked fine for me the first few days, but now keeps saying I don"t have permission to view it or it has been deleted. Any suggestions? :(

I assume you have been clicking on the original link. I didn"t bother to edit it to point it to the new upload as I thought people would use the most recent one. I have amended it now.

Great being top so far although I get the feeling Negreanu is going to go on a tear and not picking him might prove costly in the end......... But for now...........booooooooooooooom!

Calvin Anderson = Beast
Biggest regret so far is gambling on a female who isn"t Vanessa Selbst

Great work Mr Murray!!
Could you post a link to the spreadsheet every so often please, takes me ages looking through the pages for link ;D
-
Takes you ages to go back one page?
The way I have done it means that a new link is created each time I upload the file, so I started by editing the link on page 8 of this thread each time I updated. I did as you suggest on page 11, but some people were still going to the original link and reported that it didn"t work any more. Since then, I have gone back and edited that one as well each time. I don"t want to keep editing an increasing number of links so, from now on, I will put up a new one and delete the old ones each time I update the file.
The current link is here: [link removed - see latest link]

Thanks for all your efforts with the updated spreadsheet John, and I"m not last - hurrahhhhh ;D

That"s it, Debbie, kick a man when he"s down. Poor Dru. I know him irl and tbh I"m surprised that he has managed to get three points.
-
Martin Finger cashed in Event 33 - Finished 17th. Also cashed in Event 28 - Finished 138th.
Stuart Rutter cashed in Event 14 - Finished 39th.
Hopefully these extra points will push me closer towards the top! ;D
-
Dan Kelly ships a bracelet.. good news for Swinebag as he has points also for Lisandro FT aswell should be interesting when points are updated..

.....and Martin Finger is in the cash again in Event 47.

Updated to #44 and it"s still really close.
Rob has a lead, mainly due to having Kelly and playing his joker on Hellmuth, but they are all bunching up behind. Chris is in second, almost entirely due to being the only person to have top-scorer Anderson, who he is getting double points for. Steve, Debbie and Jason are all just behind, all fielding the standard Negraneu/Selbst/double-Hellmuth combination. Dann has caught up and joined the chasing pack with double-Negraneu and being the only other person with Kelly.

Looking tight for second spot :)
-
I"ve been hampered by my captain deciding that he would rather feck off to Brazil to watch England in the World Cup. Now that he has actually decided to show up in Vegas, can we make a late run or is it too late? We are nine points behind second place, but fourteen behind Rob and there aren"t many mixed games left.
-
Great night last night for my team, Ivey finally gets his 1st bracelet of the series and more importantly double points for my team, Kidpoker and the Poker Brat also cash again. Keep the points coming lads
-
So, after being asleep for most of the Summer, with just one cash, Ivey finally wakes up with two results in quick succession, finishing 30th in #48 and then winning #50. Where did that come from? Also double-scoring in recent events were Hellmuth, Negreanu and David Chiu.
Updated scores to be posted shortly. I have included #49 and #52, which are still playing but have finished for the night with two and ten players remaining, as we have scorers in both, but none of us have any of those still playing.
#51 still has a long way to go. With 7,862 entries, I wonder whether this should receive bonus points like the Main Event does. I don"t think either should generate a bonus for cashing, as a set percentage of players cash irrespective of the number of entries, but reaching the final table of a massed field is a lot harder than one with a few hundred entrants.

Yeah, Danzer is the nuts. Won his fourth SCOOP recently (same as Calvin) and six WSOP cashes so far this year, including two bracelets, a 5th and a 9th.
The woman you wanted this year is Melissa Burr, who has had four cashes, the lowest of which was 9th.

So, Negreanu picked up points for the FT of the 42-runner One Drop, which boosted half of our entrants. He has had more cashes than anyone else selected, but had only made one FT before now. This brings him level on points with Anderson and Kelly, who have had fewer cashes, but better conversion rates.
After 59 events, Rob is still out in front, principally due to being one of only two to select Dan Kelly. Dann Williams also had Kelly, along with Negreanu, but didn"t back them up with Hellmuth.

Looking over recent results, I see that Melissa Burr just missed out on yet another final table, finishing 13th in #59, but I was pleased to see that Chou Chou finished 24th in #58.

#62 and #64 are still running, but all other events have been completed, apart from the Main Event.
I will be in Bristol for the APAT event this weekend, so I have entered the cashers to date in those two - the remainder are largely nonentities (or, to rephrase, they didn"t get picked by any of our expert judges). Kessler and Obrestad have recently busted, so we just have Moorman still going in #62 and Trickett in #64. Volpe is listed as both having busted ITM and as being still in #62. I have given Moorman and Trickett one point each on the expectation that they won"t make the final table. That can be amended if Moorman gets there.
Congratulations to Trickett for his, ahem, second cash of the Series, confounding my prediction by doubling his number of cashes in recent years. I guess I have to eat my words.
So, the scores after 64 events are:
71 Rob

Just awaiting confirmation from John that the series sweat has been completed? And Robs team has won?..

Just awaiting confirmation from John that the series sweat has been completed? And Robs team has won?..
Yes, and no. The scores didn"t change, so Rob is still nine points ahead of Jason and ten ahead of Steve. However, I think we ended up saying that the Main would score double points (as suggested by Rob!), so he doesn"t win if a member of their teams takes down the Main Event.
Also, anyone with more than 50 points could still win if their captain wins the Main.
Carl, I think you should start a book on which day this week Rob will win.
-
Just updated the spreadsheet. Funny thing is that Moorman doesn"t show in the results for #62. He was on the list while the tournament was running, but he ain"t there now. It"s strange, cos the WSOP site is usually so reliable during the events ::). I just checked earlier that he and Trickshot didn"t make the FTs, which they didn"t, so assumed that they were in the cashers.
The only person affected is Rob, though a reduction of one point has no effect on the results:

Six of our players won bracelets - Anderson, Kelly, Parker, Volpe, Ivey & Selbst.
Anderson made the most final tables.
Negreanu had the most cashes.
Several players didn"t show up at all. Of those who took part, several who were expected to shine just crashed and burned - Esfandiari was the biggest flop, but Obrestad, McDonald, Ashton, Vamplew, Rettenmaier, Moorman, Timoshenko, Trickett, Mizrachi, Duhamel, Elky and Greenstein all pretty much disappointed. Ivey too appeared to be AWOL until he popped up to win a bracelet.

Thanks for the great work John some great updates!!
Now there seems to be a little confusion lol.. Me and John basically have confused the hell out of each other..
I was under the impression that the series was over and Rob had won the first prize of series sweat and added seat.
Then the second prize of the ME event sweat was for who"s team of players scored the most points in the ME? (double points)
But John was wondering why the points where doubled for ME?
What was the rest of you understanding? Prehaps i hadn"t made rules 100% clear.. Just going from what we had done in previous years..
Ermmmm HELP!
-
I didn"t suggest "double points" for the Main.
For the record, my suggestion (which was rejected) was 5 for cashing and 10 for FT.
Am happy with any ruling......
As long as I win :)
-
Great work Guys btw
Beer/drink on its way when I catch up in Leeds
-
too late now but i didn"t hate last years "who"s team cashed for the most in the ME"
-
I was under the impression it was double points for the ME.
-
My main question is what was your impression of the rules regarding the separate prize pools..
I intended as we have have every year to have 2 different games as if one players team runs away with the series then we all have a sweat with the main event..
So are we all happy that I send Rob his winnings for his squad scoring most points over series?
Then when the bubble bursts in the ME we can track the players still left in who will score points, and we can work out the winner of the ME sweat?
Or where some of you under the impression your team was still scoring for whole series with the ME added scoring double points?
If this sounds confusing then post your queries here please..
-

This is what I thought it was.

Thanks Mark it is what we have done the last three years..
-
Prize.. Keep it free and all play for the added value seat that has been kindly donated by APAT or have a cash kitty at £10 for a series and ME only sweat or £5 for those who just want one of either of their choice?
No one just paid the £5 so I presume prehaps it was clear.. I do remember last year someone did just pay £5 for the series sweat.

I don"t think that much is in doubt though. I thought the first competition included the Main Event, with the second one being just the ME. If that is not the case, then that"s fine, though I"m not sure why there was a debate about the points for the ME in that case, ie whether it counts double and so on. Luckily, it isn"t a close finish and it makes no difference this time round as Rob is either guaranteed to win or already the winner. I guess we"d better clarify the rules though. ::)

Yes John agree every year we need to tweak the rules, we have had some issues with rules prehaps next year someone who could prehaps volunteer to go through and write up the rules so we are all clear on scoring etc etc ;D
So congratulations to Rob Swindells on winning the series sweat if you can PM me your bank details Rob will ship £80 your way.. I"m sure if you PM Des regarding your £82.50 national ticket I"m sure he will point you in the right direction..
The ME is well under way and the bubble is expected to pop on day 4 so when it does we can start to see who is in the mix for the prize.. Those who have put their faith in a certain Phil Ivey will be hoping he can continue his fantastic start!!
Gl all and many thanks to John for all his hard work in tracking cashes and logging I"m sure we can buy the old fella a beer when we meet next ;D
-
Congrats to Rob.
Can we specify how the winner of the Main Event bit is decided? Is it on the basis of points? I can foresee that leading to a multi-way tie, with several people having four or five of their team cashing. Is each team"s total cashes a better method?
too late now but i didn"t hate last years "who"s team cashed for the most in the ME"
-
I think total cashes would be the best format, but happy with majority :)
-
Money has been sent to Rob..
-
Money received with thanks.
Thanks again to Carlos and Damon for running this.
Will probably play the Leeds comp. shall I contact Des closer to the time about this?

Might be an idea to contact Des/ and Matt as it might be a case of having a ticket credited to your Coral account so you can register in the holding tank.. No harm in striking SOON ;)

Just had a quick look at players left in the ME (50 places of cash).. These are notables that some may have in their teams..
Selected players remaining:
14 Dan Smith 817000
73 Phil Ivey 522500
444 Maria Ho 182500
455 Faraz Jaka 178000
479 John Monnette 162500
.... Stuart Rutter 100000
Adi will be hoping Maria Ho outlasts all.. Now Steve Ball has got two picks still in but as he didn"t want to enter the paid version it could be a costly mistake if Stuart Rutter and his other pick Dan Smith do the business!!
Obviously will have a full scan as players bust..
-
I may have missed some but, so far as I can see, we only have six players left in between the lot of us:
Griffin Benger
Olivier Busquet
Maria Ho
Stuart Rutter
Phil Ivey
Dan Smith
However, there are two APAT players still in:
Niall Farrell
Steven Warburton
Other names that popped out at me:
Kevin MacPhee
John Juanda
Mukul Pahuja
Tony Hachem
Brian Townsend
Phil Galfond
Vinny Pahuja
Huck Seed
Hasan Habib
Brian Hastings
With both Pahujas still in, wouldn"t that be some Heads-Up?
-
I"m sure we can buy the old fella a beer when we meet next
I"ll look forward to that Carl.
I would look forward to it even more if you hadn"t previously posted this:
I have decided to take a step back from playing APAT live events in season 8

Ha may have to wait till UK team champs then lol think this is my next planned trip :)
-
Would love Brian Townsend to win (SBRUGBY) but maybe would prefer Griffin Benger to win it ;)
-
Just realised that Galfond is also one of ours. Craig has him.
So we have seven.
Except we don"t, cos Olivier Busquet has just busted - 641st for $18,406.
Dan Smith now chip-leader.
-
Left in the running:
Steve - Stuart Rutter 860k and Dan Smith 2.2m with $18,406 locked up from Olivier Busquet (who is never European!! :) )
Chris Hiam - Griffin Benger 2.3m
Adi Long - Maria Ho 544k
Obviously lots of people with Ivey who is now Busto and can"t see anyone that has him with another player in the money.
-
Day 4 has just finished, with 291 players still in. Our tipsters know how to pick them, cos we have got the 3rd and 6th placed players. Chris has Griffin Benger, in 3rd with 2.3m, while Steve has Dan Smith, 6th with 2.2m.
We only lost two more of our players overnight, Galfond finishing 527th for $22,678 and Ivey 430th for a life-changing score of $25,756. Warren, Mark, Simon, Adam, Rob, Barrie, Jason & Dru will have been hoping for better than that, given his previous position. As none of them have a second player in the cash, they are all now out of the running, as is Craig, who just had Galfond.
However, apart from the two already mentioned, we still have three others alive, cos I missed Craig McCorkell last night. How could I miss a former regular Portsmouth player before he hit the big time?
Our remaining runners and riders are:
3 Griffin Benger 2.329m - Chris
6 Dan Smith 2.229m - Steve
52 Craig McCorkell 1.012m - Paxo
75 Stuart Rutter 860k - Steve (should we just ship him the cash now?)
156 Maria Ho 544k - Adrian
Cashes
430 $25,756 Phil Ivey - Warren, Mark, Simon, Adam, Rob, Barrie, Jason & Dru
527 $22,678 Phil Galfond - Craig
641 $18,406 Olivier Busquet - Steve
In APAT news, Niall Farrell finished 624th for $18,406, but Steven Warburton is still there in 265th on 364k.

Your not wrong john, how can Ivey blow a 700k stack when the average was probs not even 100k........ What a DONK lol

Shame for Steve that he didn"t want to take part in the paid version.. So those who picked Dan Smith will be hoping Griff busts earlier than Dan..
Oh and forgot to mention.. The incredible Maria Ho is still fighting with 500+k so Adi will be hoping she can outlast them all and bag the prize for him.. She has made many cashes this series and probably will be a good pick for next year!!
-
One Time!
-
I had forgotten that some weren"t in the paid version. Specifically, Steve and Dave were the only two not in it so, though they are very much still in the hunt for the title, the cash is a straight last-longer between Chris, backing Griffin Benger, and Adrian, who has Maria Ho.
The title still has four possible winners though. Steve is in the driving seat with multiple runners. If Smith and Rutter stumble, though, it is a straight last-longer between Benger, Ho and McCorkell so far as Chris, Adrian and Dave are concerned.
Day 5 starts at 8pm.
-
Assume that if players cash for the same amount highest place finisher would be the tie breaker?
-
The way it has gone so far today, our competition is looking like it will go into Day 6. Getting close to the 200 mark, all our guys are still looking good:
3 | Griffin Benger | 3,152,000 |
4 | Dan Smith | 2,550,000 |
17 | Craig McCorkell | 1,870,000 |
77 | Stuart Rutter | 970,000 |
158 | Maria Ho | 514,000 |
For the title, I"m going to nail my colours to Mukul Pahuja, who has doubled his stack today to 1.5m.
-
WSOP.com hasn"t added any updates for about five hours.
There were 127 left then, and it was 11 Benger, 12 Smith, 18 McCorkell, 33 Ho, 65 Rutter.
They are now down to 93, and none of those are in the bustees, but I can"t see whether they have improved or lost chips since.
-
Hot news just off the presses - Griffin Benger busted in 90th.
-
So Adrian Long wins the cash, as the only paying entrant who still has a live player. The title of top picker is still in the balance, however. If Benger can go from top to bottom, anything can still happen with the others.
Still running:
Dave Paxton - Craig McCorkell
Adrian Long - Maria Ho
Steve Ball - Dan Smith & Stuart Rutter + he has Olivier Busquet already banked.
-
Day 5 has just finished. 79 left:
6 Dan Smith 5,360,000
11 Craig McCorkell 4,335,000
65 Stuart Rutter 1,070,000
79 Maria Ho 435,000
-
As has been pointed out, Busquet is 100% American and was an ineligible inclusion as a European player.
-
BOOM, don"t you just love a Ho!!
-

Ho has gone, 77th. 74 left.
It"s Steve Ball v Dave Paxo now.
6 Dan Smith 6,300,000
11 Craig McCorkell 4,440,000
64 Stuart Rutter 975,000
Let"s DQ Steve for fielding an invalid team, just because we can!
-
Stuart Rutter has just been eliminated in 59th place for $124,447.
-
Well, well, well. This morning, there are 34 left and guess what?
5 Craig McCorkell 10,220,000
6 Dan Smith 9,065,000
Will we have to wait until November to know our Champion? I think they"re doing it on purpose.
-
Money recieved thank you very muchly
-
Smith is out in 20th place. Both he and McCorkell have steadily lost pots all day and Smith was in 17th with 5.7m just before he busted. McCorkell is in 16th with 5.8m, so getting close to trouble as well, but he may sit tight and try to ladder a couple of spots as he knows that he has to finish 15th or better for Paxo and him to take the title.
-
Down to 16 and you could cut the tension with a butter-knife. McCorkell is trying to hang on for one more place. There won"t be any sleep in the Paxton or Ball households tonight until this is resolved and a winner is decided. The next elimination determines who wins - Dave or Steve.
-
McCorkell has gone and done it. He got the elimination he needed to lift Paxton above Ball"s combined scores. So it"s ecstacy for McCorkell and despair for Smith, having let down Steve.
McCorkell played on in the now meaningless game and picked up another couple of places before dumping his chips for a well-earned rest. Interviewed afterwards, McCorkell said "I had already achieved my objective of winning the APAT competition, and found it hard to motivate myself to play on for no reason".
Smith and Rutter won $286,900 and $124,447, making a total of $411,347. McCorkell finished 13th, which received $441,940, the same as 15th place. Including Busquet"s $18,406 would not have changed the result.
-
So the winners of the two parts of the competition are:
Series - Rob Swindells
Main Event - Dave Paxton
Adrian Long gets the cash for the Main Event on account of Dave taking the "for fun" option.

Many congrats to Rob and Adrian for winning goodies and Dave for bragging rights :)
Huge thanks to John for taking time to track and log stats.. Looking forward to next years comp as I have some killer picks in mind!!
Also mustn"t forget the very kind donation of the APAT seat Des put up as added value lets hope Rob can spin it up!!
-
Awesome job John and Carl.
Thanks for the pennies they will be well spent in Spain next week ( flying Saturday ) ;)
-
Just to round things off, here are some members and friends of APAT, who you would have done better to pick than some of the selections that were made:
Cashes $
Dan Laming | 2 | $54,977 |
Liam Alcock | 1 | $54,088 | Final Table |
Steven Warburton | 2 | $48,230 |
Dave Burt | 1 | $24,702 | Final Table |
Sean Byrne | 1 | $12,704 |
John Miller | 3 | $12,134 |
John Murray | 2 | $7,258 |
Joe Laming | 2 | $5,906 |
Duncan Hodgkins | 1 | $2,986 |
-
Wow I won something! Wish I"d put my hand in my pocket now! Did I actually win anything as the winner of the for fun only part of the league? ;D
-

Of course you did. You receive our hearty congratulations and a big handshake. Well done Dave.
-
Actually, on reflection, I think I misspoke. We ran a competition with two parts. Rob won the first part and Dave won the second, so I guess they should share the prize.
-

What you won Dave is esteem and admiration for your stamina. :D
-
Well, I got last place in the main part of the competition, due to trying to pick other players that most people wouldnt be choosing. But picking my mate Craig McCorkell was a masterstroke, just wish I had faith in my abilities and had given John some dosh. That"ll teach me for being a tight****! Next time. ;D
