Carl, the top 2 teams from the S7 NOL secured themselves a place in the forthcoming UK Team Championship - these teams are "Lucky Squad" and "Blue Blood" - and LBPN guaranteed themselves a spot by winning the S7 UK Online Team Championship - all 3 teams need to apply via myself to secure their team spot (if not already done I will be contacting the S7 Team Captains).

Also, both APAT and LPPL will each have 1 team entered - Team Captains will be confirmed this week and a separate forum thread set up (for each team on their own forum) for members to put their names forward.  There is no criteria beyond being an APAT/LPPL member - eg APAT will NOT be a "Champions" or a "Forum" Team - simply APAT.

I would like to make a suggestion.

The Apat team captain, when announced, is going to be someone well respected and a decent player within the community.

That captain I am sure will have a very tough time in picking a team but is going to pick people that he/she knows personally to be a very good player and people who have had recent good results and rightly so as we want Apat to have the best team possible.

I would like to see a team made up of Apat randoms...ie players who have played Apat in the past either live or online, who are not part of any other forums and who basically have no chance of experiencing the team event. In the last online league where my team came 4th there are 4/6 of my team who fall into this category and I am sure there are LOADS more.

So I would like to propose a "Simon Cowell" team. Open a thread where players who are not members of any other forums can put there name down, then a team can be drawn at random...at least then some of them will get to play?

In my own experience of playing poker in team events be it as a forum team or international, a huge factor for me was to be amongst players that you would care just as much for them winning as you do for yourself, in fact more sometimes!
I know for a fact when it came to the crunch at WCOAP a couple of seasons ago personally i was more worried about letting my team mates down than i was myself..

Tbh... Hand on heart if i was in a team of "randoms" i would prehaps not worry so much, hence my game might play different in crucial spots..

But i do understand to a certain extent where you are coming from Suz, when i had the honour and prestige to captain a team i have always believed it a good thing to introduce at least 1 or 2 new players who have yet to play for APAT.. As i believe everyone should get a shot at experiencing the fun, banter and sweat that team poker provides :)

So i dunno about putting all names in a hat and drawing out 8 random people, dont know if this would end up being a way for a successful team? ( may be wrong )..

Think a team with a captain who has prior experience is neccessary, then prehaps he has to include at least 2 or 3 newbies/virgins to the squad?

Just my thoughts..

Looking forward to this immensley see you all in Manchester .

If the team is drawn at random, then surely there would be no point in having a captain?

I agree with Carl, a captain picked, who needs to pick 2 players that have not played for the APAT team before.

Team atmosphere is a massively important factor in team games and I think that a team full of people who dont really know each other is not going to be that enjoyable for anyone?

I would have to disagree, My first team championship experience was in season 6 @ Luton. We were a team full of randoms never met in person, We had only played online as a team taking part in the APAT online league (regionals team event). We finished 2nd in the tournament behind GNF, every team member stayed rite to the end rallying the team members on and checking to see where we would finish, Fantastic experience and making new friends....Apat team championship is now always top of my list on what events I want to play if lucky!!!

If it is a team representing APAT, there is no need for them to know each other. We had this discussion already about the national teams. Select them on results imo, not on whether they are in the clique. How about having a qualifying competition?

Title: Re: APAT UK Team Championship - Discussion Thread
Post by: suzanne on July 26, 2014, 04:28:55 AM
Reading back on my post I dont think I made it clear what i was thinking. I dont want the "best team possible" scrapped, I would like to see an additional team added of randoms. The forum team was a great idea but again it was a captain picking a team.

Carl, its great that you picked 2 players who had never played for Apat before...but thats just it...it was just 2 players out of LOADS who would love to play for Apat. As someone who has played for the team in the past I know how special it feels to be picked and for that reason I wouldnt put my name forward again so someone else can have that experience.

As sleeves has said, you dont have to be best buddies to make a team work. I was captain of that online league team and although we had only chatted online we had developed a great relationship and it was the cherry on the cake to actually meet each other as a team face to face. I was named captain, I didnt have any experience on what to do so we discussed strategy as a team. We went in there determined to do the best we could against a lot of very strong teams and took silver so it works sometimes :D

I REALLY really like Johns idea of having a qualifying competition btw.................................did I just agree with Mr Murray ??

Setting the disappointment aside from those teams who we just simply couldn"t accommodate within the 30 teams limit for this event, we are pleased however to announce that we have negotiated with Grosvenor G Casino Manchester to add 2 extra tables to the event - and although we could select a 31st and 32nd team, we felt it more appropriate that in association with our sponsors Coral, an online team qualifying event will be held for teams who have not already secured a place to compete against each other for the final, additional 31st and 32nd team places.

Keeping to the same format as the UK Team Championship, teams of 8 will play in a £20+£2 MTT where the top 100 players will earn points on the following scale:

1st 100 pts; 2nd 99 pts; ..... down to 100th 1 pt

For those team members who have an account associated with our relationship with the sponsors Coral - ie affiliated with APAT/Coral, each team member will be awarded 2 pts immediately at the start of the event which will be in addition to any points won for their team from their event finishing position.

Exact details of the event will be confirmed next week, but to get signed up now then simply download an APAT/Coral account by clicking HERE (http://www.apat.com/online) and get a head start for your team...

The full schedule of events over the weekend of 29th/30th Nov 2014 is as follows:

Sat 29th Nov:

14:30-02:15 Main Event: APAT UK Team Championship (NLHE) (Day 1) £50+£5 per person

20:00- APAT NLHE Side Event - £25+£5

Sun 30th Nov:

12:00- Main Event: APAT UK Team Championship (Day 2) (completion expected 22:00-23:00)

13:00-APAT PLO Side Event - £25+£5 (completion expected 22:00-23:00)

and we are pleased to confirm the following 30 teams will compete (along with the 31st and 32nd teams who win entry via the online qualifier) for the UK Team Championship:

Coral Poker (Jon Riley)
APAT (Glenn Laming)
Live Pub Poker League (Steve Bradbury)
Scot Squad (Bryan Cameron)
Sutton Poker (Paul Pitchford)
Chezger (Ger Smyth)
Edgeware Cricket Club (Brian Frew)
FISO (Philip - Spirey)
KC Club Swindon (Tim Wright)
Voyage In Poker (Kevin Bloor)
Yorkshire Poker Club (Wayne Parker)
London Poker Meetup (Matt Carter)
Kracked Kings (Steve Johnson)
Midlands Poker Forum (Dave Allan)
Blackbelt Illuminati (Jon Laight)
Newcastle Poker Forum (Dave Collins)
BCPC (Steve Redfern)
Degens Poker (Rich Baker)
Frome Poker Group (Stuart Greenan)
Hetton Social Poker (Gary Roberts)
LBPN (Lee Barrett)
North East Poker Forum (Lee Blood)
Blonde Poker (Malcolm Gorse)
A World Of Poker (Rick Gilby)
Sky Hitsquad (Dave Harvey)
The Hendon Mob Forum (Gary Peniket)
GNF (John Patten)
BSWPMG (Dan Bradbury)
Blue Blood (Carl Pilgrim)
Lucky Squad (Paul Harrison)

Welcome and many thanks to Glenn Lamming for accepting to Captain Team APAT, I"m sure Glenn will post separately inviting members to come forward, but maybe he"d like to consider asking his brother Danny whose recent great run at WSOP can be read about HERE (http://www.bluffeurope.com/PokerMagazine/Danny-Laming-Interview_329.aspx) and Hendon Mob entry HERE (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=153942) - as this is an open event maybe he"ll come along...

And many thanks to Steve Bradbury for accepting to Captain Team Live Pub Poker League - Steve led the charge for the recent few years of LPPL player success with his WSOP Final Table finish back in 2009, which you can view his winning profile HERE (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=130494)

I will be in touch with Team Captains next week with the finer details, including how to pay the entry fee of £440 (which is being paid in advance via Team Captains) and if they wish to order the subsidised team polo shirts with the event (and if need be the team) branding/logo and player names.

If any Team Captains have any questions or want to contact me then please do so by email direct to tom@apat.com or PM me HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=8285).

We look forward to welcoming you in Manchester.

Delighted to have been given the opportunity to captain team APAT. Looking at the list of teams entered there"s plenty of value in this event  ;D ;D ;D so i"m very confident of a great showing by the team and we will be going all out for the win.

I"ll put a post up in the morning to invite applications and hope to be given a few headaches in terms of team selection. My aim is to put out a highly competitive team who will play in the APAT spirit and I"ll give more detail tomorrow.

Those of you who are playing for other teams had better watch out. I can feel a few side bets coming on as I have a great feeing that this will be a great event for team APAT.

This is going to be fun..........

I"d assume that"s £20 per team. I have to say £176 per team seems hugely excessive for an online qualifier where there"s no guarantee that there won"t be a software update midway through

Just to echo this, I am so disappointed not be given the opportunity to attend now as this was a real personal highlight of the season last year.

Given all the members of ITM have supported APAT for a long term - traveling to all the events on mass, getting involved in things like the cash tour, the online events etc. I don"t really understand what has happened for us not to justify a place. Feels like a slap in the face.

Good luck to all on the day and hope it is a good one.

Yea, i was thinking about it all day at the Goliath and it really bugged me.

Team Gotham, was created because of APAT, without APAT we would exist/know each other and last year that wasnt enough for the group to get in.  Ok, we played for my "podcast" but primarly the group are all die hard APAT players, that travel to pretty much all English based legs.

£200 Wembley Event, the core of TG/ITM where there.
When asked to test Des" poker betting idea, we where there.
When asked to support the cash tour, we were there (and pretty much the only ones)
7 solid days of WCOAP, in London, we all were there and most played every event poss for the full 7 days.
Online Legs, always there.
Core of us frequent the forum, and buy/sell pieces to help the community play more poker
I, for one, as captain promote APAT whereever i go, via social media etc.
We boast 3 of the Top 4 of last years rankings (you only get up there by playing events)
God knows how many medals/bracelets between us.
Always at the top desk, chatting to help improve, move things forward.

You may think, typical Dann, moaning but to be honest it feels like a kick in the teeth when you spend your spare time doing this and then you get overlooked, in favour of some private homegames.

APAT built TG/ITM group, but refuses to give us the chance once a year to play as a team.

Thanks

I personally made this cock-up, and I apologise wholeheartedly to you and your team Dann - I know how much you guys support APAT and how much you do and say "behind the scenes" - ITM should very much be included in this year"s UK Team Championship and as of now the list of accepted teams has grown to 31 with the inclusion of ITM - the "online qualifying event" will be for the 32nd and 33rd team (and through some begging with Manchester we will get an extra table).

I hope you can forgive and forget - it was a personal oversight of mine that I cannot correct by including ITM at the expense of an already selected team - therefore it is only fair to select 31.

Regards/Tom

Yet another example of APAT pushing the boundaries and taking full responsibility and offering a solution when something doesn"t work and enabling common sense to prevail. Hat"s off to you Tom, it"s situations like this that reinforce why APAT are so important in the industry.

Personally looking forward to inevitably being on Batman"s table and cold four betting every single one of his three bets.

Hi all,
I would like to introduce myself, and my team members for the up and coming team event which we are all looking forward to immensely . We al have lots of hours under our belt for "liveplay" and a few of us even had the pleasure of playing the live event at aspers(London), with mixed results . One thing we did excel in was the alcoholic beverage front  ;D . I cant see that changing this time and from what I can vaguely remember we had lots of enthusiastic competition  ::) .
The team is as follows ;
KRACKEDKINGS

Steve Johnson (captain) PLUM
Richard Palser . RICHYPAL
Simon Marks , RIVHER
Austin Quinn , EMMERSON
Harry Davis , H
Martin Dean, LITTLEMATE
Sam Gilbert , SUPASHAMMY
Steve Jabba , JABBA .

A great bunch of lads that are sociable(to say the least) .
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for his efforts in putting this together as its never easy, and always difficult telling teams that haven"t been lucky enough to be picked (better luck next time).
SEE YOU ALL THERE !!!

Craig - Coral Head Of Poker

The remaining six places are up for grabs on Coral Poker as we separate the wheat from the chaff and establish just who is good enough to don the famous Coral blue shirt. Keep your eyes on site for our qualification tournaments.

I see that only 14 teams have bought in via the holding tank on Coral and that it closes at noon on Friday 3rd October. For any team that misses this deadline, can we still buy in on the day at the casino ?

I think if they miss the deadline they get replaced by one of the teams that didn"t make the cut. That"s what makes it a deadline.

The only reason I ask Matt, is because I spent quite some time today trying to transfer cash on the Coral site to our team Captain. The transfer repeatedly failed. I gave up with online chat after 20 minutes of inactivity and ended up spending a further 30 minutes on the phone to Customer Services.

It transpires that the facility to transfer cash from player to player has been removed... even though you can still access the process via "My Account". Having been unsuccessful in the satellite on Sunday night, there are now seven of us who will have to try and arrange bank transfers in the next 48 hours.

Congrats on your satellite success. The sarcasm is noted, if not appreciated.

It seems a little odd that the holding tank is being closed a full 8 weeks prior to the tourney  ???

I think ideally the satellite would have been a couple of weeks earlier, the early deadline is to give the replacement teams a chance to sort out payments, hotels etc. As for Coral"s money transfers, I ran into this problem myself on Sunday so I know what a pain it is.

21 teams have paid..

So if the full quota has not settled up by deadline, how many reserves are APAT going to contact? and how long will they have to pay?

Also as this event is vastly over subscribed each year, will the teams that dont pay by deadline (if any) be penalised next year if they ask to play.

I have deleted my emails.. But very simple, download the Coral poker software if you have not already got, if not there is a link on home page.. Once installed you need to deposit the funds into your acc £440, then click on the Coral exclusive tab, scroll down to APAT and you will see the holding tank there, check filters click high buy in..

The email also was asking for you to post your squad and the players attending on appropriate thread, and reminding about attending with appropriate team kit..

Good luck see you in Manchester..

Yes Matt understand that the deadline was extended.. Still find it hard to understand why some teams have still to gather funds, as a captain I made sure as soon as knew the details I had 100% commitment from team members which meant I wanted funds from them a full 3 weeks before the original closing date of 28th.. Hence I had to chop and change my squad a couple of times.. I"m sure there won"t be a short fall come the day, I realise APAT have made sure teams knew the rules well in advance as to negate this problem..
Surely captains can ask for bank transfers etc from team mates instead of transfers from Coral?
Just interested from original 33 teams how many of them will attend (hope all) or if not how they decide who is on reserve list :)

I agree the deadline probably needed 3 or 4 days extension at the most. I had asked for Coral transfers in preference to bank transfers, it was only when I tried to do one myself on the Sunday before that I found they weren"t possible (even though all the set up procedures were still accessible). The extra two weeks doesn"t really leave much time for replacement teams to get organised with regard to travel, shirts, hotels etc

Hi

Is there a reserves list somewhere?  I"ve been looking but can"t find one.

I failed to qualify for the HitSquad team but will be travelling to Manchester so if anyone is short of a player I"d happily fill in!

Morning all,

Didn"t realise teams were already confirming, so only just been sent back in the direction of this thread.

TEAM LBPN (Winners of the APAT Online Team Event 2014 - blatant brag) will be represented this year by:

Lee Barrett (Capt)
Ian Szerlowski (Vice Capt)
Mike Scothern
Antony Lee
Damon Clark
Barry Simpson
Darrell Hall
Alex Thomas

1st reserve - Andrew Young

Looking forward to it already, especially as its on home turf for us this year.  The countdown is on....tick tock, tick tock!!

Unfortunately Damon Clark has now had to pull out of our team,  so in comes our reserve player Andrew Young! Good news for him,  bad news for you lot - he"s running very hot indeed!!

Team is now as follows:

Lee Barrett (Capt)
Ian Szerlowski (Vice Capt)
Mike Scothern
Antony Lee
Andrew Young*
Barry Simpson
Darrell Hall
Alex Thomas

Thanks

Just out of interest how many of the original 32 teams have paid in full (not counting added value winners).. And how many reserve teams will be given the chance?

I know that if any teams are struggling to find a player that "former world champ do you know who I am Tonny Trippier" is begging to get in a team  ;D

Team In The Muck shall consist of:

Batman
Robin
Joker
The Riddler
Bane
Batboy
Catwoman

and maybe Two-Face, but we"ll see about that as he"s a little undecided as to which face he should be, so working on the 8th.

Or if you prefer:

Dave Howard
Chris Webber
Dann Williams
Michael Perry
Dwayne Stacey
Mark Porter
Ian Witt

Tony Johnson (TBC)

What odds can i get on this team being either Winners or 1st team out.....any other placing is a loser :)

Hi Tom, is this still scheduled for today ?

If this does happen today, then I hope Tom will allocate seats in alphabetical order of surname for the teams who have yet to finalise their line ups.  Otherwise they may have an unfair advantage in viewing the draw prior to confirming their players.

Well that"s killed that as an option, cos now that they know how they are being allocated they can look at the tables and select a team according to surname. So another allocation method is needed - I suggest that Tom ranks them for attractiveness and allocates them on that basis, strictly according to table number.

Just a cautionary word about next week... during my last few recent visits to Manchester G (including today), I couldn"t honestly describe the poker room as anything other than "chilly". It"s a very nice room, extremely well run with great staff and great facilities, just not very warm. Players have been moaning about it forever, I rarely take my Karrimor fleece off in there. Hopefully the combined body heat of 250+ APATers will thaw it out a bit.

The rumour at the tables is that the heating is controlled remotely by someone from an office in London who refuses to believe that Northerners ever feel the cold. Maybe they"ll have it sorted by next week, who knows... bring a sweater, or if you"re from the South, an arctic survival suit  ;)

Midlands Poker Forum will now be fielding Michael Rouaullt in place of Adam Burtukally who is unavailable.
I assume Michael will now just inherit Adam"s draw unless you are doing a complete redraw.
