Title: WCOAP
Post by: fandango on September 17, 2014, 08:52:00 AM
Any idea when we can see a rough "draught" of schedual?

Although its ages away, from first sounds looks like its going to take a little more planning than normal.

Will the whole event be held in London over 10 consecutive days?

Will online satts offer a package style prize?

How about having a online weekly mixed game league toutnament similar to "bunch of fives" where top prize is a WCOAP passport?

Last year really enjoyed WCOAP, but it ended up a rather expensive few days.. Need to start saving my pennies :) so the sooner i have an idea the better.

I know Tom was still working on the schedule when I spoke to him in Luton and hoped to have something in writing by e.o.m.

10 days is a lot of time to fill and there are a lot of things still to be nailed down.

I"ll be seeing Tom over the weekend [Belgium FTW] and will have a word and see where we are....if he doesn"t see this before then.

I understand that the Travelodge was doing the 10 days for c.£440 last I heard.

Indeed it is and has disabled rooms and a parking space for a car round the back for free.

Wait...What!?

When did I volunteer to stay sober long enough to do that?

Then again, being pixelated might make for an interesting schedule*

Apologies, but we"ll have to extend this a bit further as on reflection it is considered more appropriate to discuss with Aspers before releasing to members for comment - disappointing I know, but this way we can give you an agreed draft schedule having had the benefit of input from John Scanlon at Aspers (Poker Manager) and that we know works for both parties and still allows us to retain flexibility to act on members" feedback before confirming a final schedule before the end of October (2014!).

I would hope, well, I will at least aim, to provide you with an agreed draft prior to UK Amateur Poker Championship in Leeds on 11th/12th Oct.

Well you know what they say about self-imposed deadlines - don"t make em!

Alas the draft schedule is still with Aspers, whom I have contacted today and although not heard back from them, I will hopefully get their agreement on the schedule over the weekend or next week at the latest - at which point we will of course publish to the forum for player feedback.

For info.... Following an email alert from Travelodge I got the London Stratfied travelodge for £281 for 6 nights Sunday to Friday inclusive. Both Saturday"s and Easter Sunday were a bit more pricey so I haven"t booked those yet

This was on the saver, non refundable option. If you want complete flexibility then you can pay £387

Gonna hold back until full schedual is released.. think it will be a case of playing a few of the earlier events to quench my PLO PLO8 and ante only tournament, going home and prehaps the final weekend for ME etc.. Emmas Bday weekend on 5th fml.. But should be ok  ;D

I"d be amazed if it changed given that people have booked hotels etc... Plenty of other places to get a drink nearby and we"ve had events in dry sites before

Having said that, some reassurance would be nice APAT

It most certainly will not be changed, and we are in final discussions with Aspers on the schedule and expect to have it finalised and published next week.

Quick question (sorry if it"s already been asked) - what"s my best plan if I want to play both the Antes Only and the OFC? Should I reg for both and if so, what happens if I"m still in the Antes Only when the OFC starts?

Also, does anyone have the specifics of which OFC rules they will be using?

Hi all,

First of all: great looking schedule! If I could I would play it all.

Which brings me to my question... What will be the rule regarding unregistering from a tournament prior to its beginning? I"m particularly looking at the events which clash or overlap; such the HU Championship and Day 2 of the Main.

Will there be any possibility to unregister?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gareth, the simple answer is yes there will.

What we need to achieve is give everyone the opportunity to take part, which in turn means we do NOT allow players to register or play in multi events that overlap as, you can imagine, that leads to many registering for an event, and then having to withdraw because they are still in another event - which of course can cost another player a seat - which we consider to be unfair.  I believe it was the main reason why APAT, years ago, introduced the "seat exchange" facility that players use when they register for an event and then cannot, for whatever reason, play.  It stops someone (or dozens of people) simply registering for an event, or all events, with the real possibility that they cannot actually attend - but they hedge their bets - thereby taking a place that someone else could have had and who would have turned up.

I"m sure at times there is an acceptable balance - and the example you quote I think would be fine - but we need to rely on the player to UNREGISTER if it looks like they will still be in the 1st event when the 2nd starts - with your example you could simply see the APAT host to unregister from the HU - I would hope/expect this to happen at the point you know you"ve qualified for Main Event Day 2.

Looks like the non-pineapple, non-Fantasyland, 3-handed standard version of the game. As for scoring, I would expect the usual 2,4,6,10,15,25 and then double in the middle, 2pts for trips (middle) and then 1pt+ for 6"s+ up front. That"s what I saw when Aspers had an OFC tournament on a couple of months ago.

Agree we haven"t got it right just now Carl and will try to improve this ahead of the WCOAP.  It"s important that we continue to attract new players to APAT and photo tagging and sharing helps a great deal with that on facebook.  So we feel we need to move in that direction, but I agree it needs to be better than what we have at the moment.  But it is give and take on both sides as bringing in new players should be as important to long term members as the organisers.

Think FB is great at advertising up and coming events (myself and other members always share the post).. As for live updates of the event itself it"s not so good.. I"m sure if we all rally together we can share pics on FB?.. The live updates that we used to have on the forum where pretty amazing!! And I"m a sad as I like to reminisce on past events and bathe in some glory every now and then.. Regarding advertising.. Has the thought of selling patches for members to wear ever been discussed? For a nominal fee these can be purchased and distributed at events for members to wear with pride..

I"m (now) in total agreement that FB is not the answer with how we tried it in Coventry and here yesterday (unless someone can point out the errors of our ways and it can be used and retained chronologically) - so we"re now trying to find a compromise as Des says so we can provide a chronological blog worth reading (and to reminisce Carl!) whilst using the power of Facebook to "connect" and "share" to get the APAT name and events out to a wider audience - and we appreciate if you continue to share those kind of things via Facebook - thank you - so instead of our historical "google picassa" photos, we"re using the APAT Facebook page for photos that we can tag and share, as for today using the APAT Forum for the update element of it (as opposed to yesterday where it all went on FB which just doesn"t have the likes of "picture cards" etc to enhance the blog visually).
