-
We have our first elimination from the Cash Championship Final Table
Noel Thompson opens UTG to £7, John Murray calls, John Black calls, Mark Hamilton calls on the button, Neil Sillick makes it £38 from the sb and Mark Hamilton is the only caller, from the button.
Pot is £99 and we see a flop of
Jh 2c 4c
Neil leads £42 and is met with a raise, to £100, from Mark.....after a short tank Neil elects to 4bet jam his remaining £220 and Mark calls.
Pot ~£620
Neil shows As Kd
Mark has Jc 7d
Board runs out Js 7c and we lose Neil in 8th Place

Update in the Cash Championships.
Dave Howard has opted to cash out his remaining stack and walks away from the game with £180. Torrid seat draw, torrid first hour and he still gets to leave in profit....not many tournaments you can do that in!

Seat drawn is up and players are in their seats and unbagging their chips from yesterday.

Huge last 10 mins in the cash championships!!
I join the action on an 8h 9c 9h Ad 3s board. £100 in the pot and Shawn Lassman is facing a bet for his entire stack (£200) John Black is the bettor in the hand.
John exposes the 4d and after a long time Shawn calls showing Ah Qd but its no good vs Johns 9s 4d
Huge pot knocking Shawn out and putting John Black back into the chip lead!!
5th place finisher
Shawn Lassman

Heads Up
Feroz Ali and Philip Henze are battling it but but it seems at the moment nothing can dampen Feroz"s enthusiasm...he"s just having fun.
Having just flopped quad queens probably helped butPhilipp managed to get away only lightly scratched up.
-
Cold as Ice!!

I catch the action with a 3 way all in preflop.
David Wells has AA
Tristan Chaplin has KK
Another player had QQ
The board runs out JJ869r and DW triples up, leaving Tristan with 25k and QQ busts.

Defending Champion Exits.
After the horrific cooler above, Tristan Chaplin shoves his final 25k in with 78ss and David Wells wakes up with KK.

We have an interesting dynamic in which 2 players have a sub 2bb stack.
They are very excited to see an all in and call on another table.
John Hurt gets his last 67k in with KK and is called by Andrew Hepburn and AJo
The board is a safe 5Q229 and it still continues.....

How is Toni Smith getting on Dann?? ???

As i type the last update i hear the TD shout all in and call......i rush to the table to see Raymond Lynch scoop a 260k+ pot after he bursts the bubble. Sadly i dont know the bubble boys name, as he raced out of the cardroom, obviously disappointed.
Raymond Lynch
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DJ9VXdrfu3w/VSKxxxz1WkI/AAAAAAABHP0/gXzRPMRT9aw/s720/IMG_0884.JPG)
The bubble boy had opened QQ only to be faced by a 3b by Raymond...The player holding QQ then 4b jammed all in and Raymond called the addition with AK - the classic race.
The flop came a safe 946r however the King on the turn leaves only 2 outs for survival....The Ace on the River is nothing more than overkill but the remaining 45 players are all in the money!!

How is Toni Smith getting on Dann?? ???
Hey Reece, as i rush to find out i see a 43rd place card in her hand.
Her first words to me are " I thought it was a bad idea when i did it......but i did it anyways!!"
With 10bbs and a dream, Toni tries to open jams the monster that is J7hh however accidently leaves her 1k chips behind the betting line. The flop was T7Q no hearts but she had to begrudgingly put the last 8k in....and is called by AJ....Currently leading, somehow, the turn brings a J for 2 pair....but sadly the river is a dirty King and thats the end of the rollarcoaster.

Not bad for her first ever APAT and her 5th ever visit to the casino, im sure the £220 will just about cover the fuel from Crewe and back, and her bar bill.

40 left..now that Dave Howard has exited.
Sorry davesmum.

Dave Howard finished 41st.
After being depleted when his 3 bet jam with AT walks into KK, it is finally folded to his SB with his shortstack. He shoves his ATC, this time 83o and the BB wakes up with A9 and Dave doesnt manage to hit.

We now have a new chipleader!!
At blinds 8k/16k/2k Munaaf Ghuman opens to 35k, in the Cutoff, Tony Gale then 3b the SB to 85k. Ghuman tanks slighlty before pulling back his original raise and 4b to 150k. Tony shoves for 420k effective and Ghuman calls.
Its a classic flip.
Ghuman has 4d 4c
Gale has Ac Kh
Board runs out A s 8s 10c Kc 9h and we lose Ghuman in 22nd.
Tony Gale, who finished in the Bronze Medal position in the same event last season now has just shy of the 1 Million mark.

Heidi
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-FzBmw8CwKoQ/VSKPEytXvgI/AAAAAAABHI4/QH_96s5pxwM/s512/IMG_0855.JPG)
100k in the middle already and Heidi is leading 120k into it on a 4c 7c 6d flop.
Shirley calls it off.
Turn is 7h
Heidi pushes for a shade under 400k.
Shirley has maybe 750k so it would be a real knock if she"s wrong so she, it seemed to me, reluctantly folds.
-
Erol Taylan has just doubled through Tony Gale.
Taylan open shoved his 10bb stack with 44, and is called by the CL, Gale, with Aces.
Taylan flops a 4 and Gale cant rebink, even with his father, and long time APAT regular Mike Gale railing intently.
-
Izabella Ciborowksa has just bust to John McGlynn, shoving 67dd into A9o.

Bust outs are speeding up!!
John McGlyn is out in 14th.
His 3b jam with AA, is looked up by the Original Raisers KQss.
The flop is KQx and with no improvement on subsequent streets, John makes his swift exit with £490 in his back burner.
-
Adam Prickett busts in 13th, getting closer to the final 9.
Shoving his last 5bbs in with Q9o, he is looked up by the bb"s 77 and the board is sadly as helpful as Chinese Instructions.
77 holds and we get closer to the big stage.
Last years 3rd place finisher, Tony Gale, is still going strong.....WCOAP back to backs do seem to be the trend this year

You guys are doing an unbelievable shift, and have done all week.
The players have long days at times, but the updaters are first there and last to leave every single day.
Well done to all of the team.

Desperately need to find out what the online schedule is going to look like...
TBC in the next couple of days once I"ve finalised with Tom and Des, but it"s looking like 1 Main Event and 2 or 3 Side Events (£20 Omaha, and 1 or 2 x £10 other variants). 9 points for the Main, 5 points for each of the Sides. £50+5 Main Event and £20+2 Omaha Side event will be Sunday 19th April, with nightly satellites from 13th April.

To be honest Tom and Des have taken the real brunt of it...it"s been rare for them to finish before 5am most days and often later...only to be back at the desk for 11.30.
That doesn"t include writing up press reports and doing other "behind the scenes" business.
Me...I"ve a had a couple of real tail-twisters but Des and Tom have taken pity on this fat old man and let me go by 1am most days. I"m fortunate to only be a 30 minute drive away...quicker if APAT will pay the speed camera fines. ::)
Young Dann came on board and provided a real breath of fresh air and engagement to the last couple of days and also put in some long old nights.

Crazy scenes at Aspers as the Final Table bubble is in full swing.
Firstly Dionisio Senano calls off his last 165k with Q9ss vs Daniel Lewis" A7
Flop comes QT2, pushing Senano into the lead.
A same turn of the K, and its just an Ace to avoid..........but
BOOM! Ace on the river and its g"nite for Senano, finishing in 10th place for £700.

On the other table we have a shove of 240k by Raymond Lynch, called by Paul Fisher.

There was a ton of drama in this hand.
The chips went in on the flop and Rieuwert visibly sagged when Philip turned over pocket Queens, countering the Dutchman"s flopped top pair.
The oxygen intake switched seats a card later when the dealer turned the 2d returning the lead to Rieuwert.
However the German rail erupted when the 9c paired the board, giving Philip the stronger two pair.
Parity and we"re into the poker equivalent of penalties.
What a great game this has been.

Some chips are shifting at the FT.
Heidi Croonenborghs shove Ac 6s in early position for 11bb (520k) and is called by Daniel Lewis, in the BB, with 10c 10s.
The board runs out A s 8h Kd 3c 8s and Heidi finds the much needed double up. This should change the dynamics at this Final Table, quite dramatically.

Huge Hand Alert.........
Daniel Lewis opens UTG to 135k @ 30k/60k/5k and is shoved on by Paul Fisher in the SB. Daniels" stack is effective and he calls it off (935k).
Paul shows AKo and Daniel KK.
No Ace in sight and Daniel sores into the CL now with almost 25% of the chips in play, 6 handed.

Folds to Erol, in the HiJack, who makes it 125k @30k/30k.
David Wells then 3b jams for 285k and Erol calls.
Its Erols A3 vs Davids KQ.
Board runs out JAJ57 and we lose David, in 6th place for £1665.

Presumably because the blinds are huge relative to the average stack. Such a shame that Apats showpiece comes down to this

Ave stack is 15bbs and the chip distribution is fairly even. Button shoves seem to be getting through.
-
It"s very tense 5 handed.
All players have £2080 locked up, but with £8.5k, the Gold Medal, the Championship Bracelet all to play for and average stacks of 15bbs, you can see why it"s a tight affair

Ironically its the huge blinds which are making it such a tight slow affair...

Danny Lewis and Erol see a flop in a BvB limped pot. The board is 763r, and the table do give a small cheer that a flop has been seen :)
Flop is checked and Danny wins the pot, betting the turn 9.
Hand straight after we see a 2nd flop.
On J77 Paul Fisher leads flop and is put all in by Andrew Hepburn. Paul snap calls and the hands are exposed.
Andrew has KJo but is pipped by Paul"s AJo. The turn is an A and river K and Paul has over 2.8m of the 8m in play

As Andrew Hepburn is left with c3BB it"s not surprising he"s pushing with Any Two.

Andrew Hepburn leaves us in 5th with £2,080.

Sorry guys, we"ve had some technical problems that will delay us putting up the final two pictures until tomorrow.
Thanks for reading tonight and over the past ten days. A special thanks to Paulie and Dann who brought you the updates and to Tom who managed the schedule and relationship with the casino. Aspers were a very supportive partner and couldn"t do enough for us.
Finally, a big thanks to all the players. The ten days were played competitively and in great spirit. It was genuinely a pleasure to be there.
Cheers,
Des.

Congratulations Dan. And we"ll done to the other finalists. Had a great time at the tourney and met some great people. Finishing 5th always helps. :)
Well done APAT for a great festival too

Hi guys,
Just wanted to say it was a great experience for me to be part of this. I really enjoyed it and can"t wait to come back next time.
Big thumps up for all the volunteers and for the guys that keeps this forum updates lively.
See you next time!

Firstly just want to say a massive thank you to Des & Tom for organising a fantastic 10 days and letting me personally hang out with a great bunch of lads (Gotham) and meet all the great people who attend Apats....Don Roberts, Ian Thompson, Simon "Snoopy" Lawler, Carl Pilgrim, many of the Italians, Steffan and Alexander (two german lads i met)...the list is endless!
Apat might just be rediscovering a usp with the offer of all these mixed games which as we saw where a missive hit (I"m certainly a convert)
Also a big thanks to Dann & Paulie for the great updates
Finally Tom think we managed 19 in the end....22.5 for just the two/four ;) of us was just too high a line. Hopefully next year though
Ironically its the huge blinds which are making it such a tight slow affair...
What"s the alternative? Slower blind levels deeper into day 2 and have a day 3 for the final table?
Re the structure Tom, off the top of my head you could
-Revert back to 45 minute levels
-Play an additional level on day 1 (if you were to add 5 mins a level, you would already have an additional hour of play day 1)
-Pause the clock on Hand for Hand!
-Flatten structure in later stages to avoid a few blind increase choke points
Whilst all this might seem like it would make the tournament longer, people could at least play post flop and allow hands to develop (thus increasing the likelihood of elimination)
You could also consider playing the main event final day on the Sunday so that if a late finish was to occur it would only be dragging into bank holiday Monday...
Thinking about what you said Tom...actually i really like your idea of having the final on Monday afternoon
Day 1A - Friday
Day 1B - Saturday
Day 2 - Sunday
Day 3 - Monday
I realise it is nuts to run a 3 day comp for a £10 fee*... but this is unique (this is apats showpiece and i strongly believe everything that can be done to prevent what is currently happening needs to be considered). Also, the amendments would require less dealers anyway and we would still be running other comps on the Monday anyway.
*I would certainly be happy to pay £100 + £15 for these improvements...
And from all accounts Aspers love having us there

Did this all go in pre ?
Assuming Paul must have been really shortstacked ?

Sorry Leigh...I was really flagging by then.
Yes, it all went in pre and Daniel had Paul about 3:1 in chips.

No worries. It just seemed a strange way for it to end.
A 3:1 chiplead isn"t that massive. Really surprised, but there were probably plenty of table dynamics at play.
Well done to all of them.
-
Paul had been pretty aggressive at the final table, often pushing a million chips and more all in as a 3 bet.
I saw it as a continuation of the strategy to pick up some significant blinds and Daniel just wasn"t having any of it.

Some good ideas in there Chris. FWIW I found it crazy to have Day 2 starting at 2pm. I"ve made a couple day 2s this season and both of those recommenced at noon. Seemed very strange to have the largest main event of the season starting 2 hours later than the norm, it was always going to be likely that stacks would get shallow quickly purely due to the sheer volume of players who entered. Starting a couple hours earlier would allow more play and the structure could be tweaked accordingly to facilitate this. I like the idea of having the final on a day 3 as 2 long days of poker can be mentally and physically draining. These are just my thoughts and aren"t intended as any kind of criticism towards Des or the rest of the APAT team who put in a power of work and were fantastic throughout.
-
Massive thank you to the team for a fantastic event again this year, and congratulations to all the players.
Look forward to seeing everyone again next year for a few events, particularly the grand final!
Wonder what odds I would get on a third, third place finish? ;)
Sorry for keeping the team up so late this morning! Especially with so little to write about. I"m sure if the structure can be tweaked slightly there will be more to report on next year.
Thanks Again
Tony Gale

3 days with the FT on Day 3 (and an additional contribution to the rake from everyone if necessary), with tweaks to the structure to give a bit more play all sounds very nice to me...

Thanks for the kind words Des.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 days. I would like to echo the comments of some others in this thread and thank those who I am sure work tirelessly to co-ordinate a series of events on this scale.
Personally I don"t believe that the main event structure needs any tinkering at all (aside from the fact that I agree that Day 2 could maybe have started at 12pm). The structure allows plenty of play for pretty much all of the 2 days. Even at the FT we were 20BB deep which is plenty generous enough.
This was my 3rd APAT tournament, but I will be looking to make more appearances next season and look forward to the schedule being released.
Final comment - whoevers decision it was to run a Crazy Pineapple event is my hero!

Towards the end of day 1b, there was a big crowd and a lot of noise surrounding one table. I heard that somebody was battling back from 1 ante and had spun it back up to 25K? I couldn"t see anything about it in the updates from the day so I don"t know if what I heard was true. Anyone know?

I also heard this whilst playing the HORSE tourney, but cannot be sure.

It was true, it was the sheriff....., but he didn"t make day two, busted on the final hand of the day

That was our Sheriff indeed! Everyone wanted him to stay in... He had 1 antes left, won the all in with that as well as the following hand. He finally busted the final hand of the day... If he won that hand, he would have had 25k...
So he didn"t have that otherwise he would have folded that last hand.
He is very popular in Belgium, and also in the UK now :)

Love the Sheriff!!! Legend :)
