Every year, we have seen a few APAT or LPPL players doing really well at the WSOP, going really deep in events. At the end of each Series, we have seen that choosing them would have been a better option than some of the famous players we did select, even though the famous deadbeats were playing everything and our guys can only do a few events each.Have left it a while to comment as was hoping for some feedback from others.. seems a lack of interest this year if I'm honest John.. Think maybe leave it as things are and see how many runners we get, then perhaps have a "wild card" option? (Team of 11)..
So here's a thought - what do people think of the idea that you have to include at least one APAT or LPPL player in your team? As they can only play a few, maybe tweak the scoring if they cash - double points or something? We know the names of a substantial group going early in the Series, http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php/topic,20064.0.html, plus numerous others always make the trip.
Thoughts?
I'll donate again Carl just let me know where to send :)

I'm definitely entering a team this year, but need to do some poker homework before selection!

Homework is +EV .. think of all the Amaretto you could buy with your winnings!!
Whatever I win 50% will go to Steve Ball charity and 50% to Raise for Jack. This relates to the cash prize but not any seat I win, I'll sort something different out for that.

Yes still have 24 hours to submit a team..
The trends in player selection are quite interesting. Selectors have clearly been paying attention to players' performances at the WSOP and those who have failed to live up to their hype have been unceremoniously discarded. Some of the most popular players when we started this, who have not done well in recent years, have fallen right out of the lists.
There are other players who didn't feature at all at the start, but became popular and received a lot of selections in the last year or two, either due to having a good Series or high expectaions for their first attempt. Some of them have justified their selections and again appear high in the list, but there are others who failed to perform and have been dumped as fast as they came in.
Players' likeabilty means nothing to our ruthless selectors, who have discarded some of the most popular players, while a couple of very disliked players, who have performed well, have reappeared.
There are also a lot of new names this year, including some rising stars who have just been picked by one person this time. It will be interesting to see if any of those do well and become mainstays on everyone's lists in the future.
All will be revealed before long.
Registration is now closed....
We have 25 runners and with a few people still to settle up a prize pool of £250.
Will pay top 3 finishes..
Winner will receive £150 and added APAT seat
Runner up £70
Third place £30
Any objections?
Still time for last minute amends or once the teams in is it locked?
Still time for last minute amends or once the teams in is it locked?
Hi Chris.. I think it's fine to amend now before any event has started, but we found last year it was a pain after as we did say no changes and there was some controversy when we allowed this to happen, so PM John asap I'm sure he won't mind.
Looks good, when will we see teams :D

Two changes received from Jo in the nick of time. Mercier and Monette in instead of Bojang and Shack-Harris. That's Jo's second change - Mercier was in, then he was out, now he's back in again.

Only one of our players made it through to Day 2 of the Colossus from the two sessions yesterday. Chris Ferguson had a stonking Series last year under pressure and has gone through as the 6th biggest stack from 1C.
We had two more cashes - Loni Harwood and Tom Middleton. Please let me know if I miss one of your guys in this event - it's quite likely. I will review every player's HM near the end to ensure nothing has been missed.
Cord Garcia, 2015 winner of this, finished 1D in 2nd place. Amazing story coming up?
Today will see the APAT & LPPL prizewinners in action in this event, plus other APAT/LPPL players, most of whom arrived as a large group yesterday. Here's hoping for some deep runs!

Polk wins his third bracelet (a real one, as he says himself, having won the Tag-Team last year). I thought someone had him on their team, but he was sacked off this year. Hellmuth just misses his millionth final table, but was our highest finisher in the most loaded field possible.
The tournament will be remembered for Elky check-raising Hellmuth on two streets with JT on a KQQ flop, and convincing PH to fold Q9 on the turn. (Only great players can fold Trip Queens, Ben Burnhill!)
I'm pretty sure I have Hell Mouth in my team
You have, sorry, cut you off the list.

Staker seems to be letting me stake once the tournament is underway. I just lumped on Stu Rutter in the $10k 2-7 lowball, then realised the final table had already been decidedDes is aware of this. The staking time is stamped, so any late entries will be removed.
It looks like the $10k 2-7 will have a big impact on the league table with 4/8 players still in (sadly none of my selections)

Quote from the updates of the Super-Seniors, for players aged 65+. "Each time we have returned from break, at least one of the players has lost their seat. The floor calls out asking if anyone recognizes the player and a silence falls over the crowd until someone pipes up with their location."(http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/lachen/laughing-smiley-014.gif)

I know you like your funny names John, there's a great one in event #41 the PLO.
Poor guy is called Willy Ding! ;D
Has anyone paid for Poker Go and watched the live streams? I'm a bit reluctant to pay but if the coverage is good I might do a month for $10. Have seen a couple of negative posts about it bit that may have been simply due to stream delay. Interested in views on if it offers value for money.
Also really annoying that WSOP have wiped their historical videos off of you tube.
Might be one to remember for next year then! ::)I know you like your funny names John, there's a great one in event #41 the PLO.
Poor guy is called Willy Ding! ;D
I see that Willy has cashed, Dave, and has previous cashes, so I'm sure he'll pop up again.

Plenty of well-known names cashed in this, and we had none of them. Not our finest hour.
The event would be totally forgettable for us if it wasn't for Paxo spotting Willy Ding.
TJ Cloutier (now aged 77) made the final table. Actually, his name has cropped up quite high in several tournament updates.

Oh dear - in a three way all-in, with five players left, Lakemeier had QQ55 against AAKK and AA88, but caught a Q at the end to eliminate both of the others. He then quickly saw off the remaining two to take the bracelet.
It looked like there were going to be buckets of points for everyone, but then all your favourites slipped out of contention before the final table and there were hardly any points at all.
You've completely left me out of this one John 😣. I have Johnson, Negreanu, mercier and Glaser..🖒
John,
I think you've made a typo above. You've said Grosvenor have added 10 Goliath Seats to the Staker WSOP Main Event leaderboard.
That can't be right, can it ?
Not only that, but someone who is -£167000 can enter and win a Goliath ticket ;D

Just tried doing it myself - didn't have any problem. Maybe try again and let us know how it goes?

Dinner break, 18 left and DWR is in 1st place, but by less than a big blind over Australian player Heidi May. These two have a big lead over the rest, though, having a full 50% more than the third-placed player and more than double what fourth has.

Does Mansour Matloubi count as a British Main Event winner? He is Iranian born, but plays under a British flag.
The July NineWell I wanted Craig McCorkell to win, but he's not there, so guess it has to be Mr Hesp!

There is a decent chance of a British winner now, with two Brits on the final table, along with four Yanks, two French and an Argentinian. If you want poker to grow and get mainstream publicity, we need to hope that John Hesp wins. Salas and Pollak are reasonably interesting, but the most of the others are extremely boring and don't come across well on camera. If Ben Lamb wins it will put poker backwards.
Who do you want to win?

Finally, it's time to wrap up our league for this year. The WSOP had a successful year, but ours was even more so, with our highest-ever number of entrants. Congratulations to all the winners. After being close a couple of times, Barrie won this one by a distance, but the battle between those trying to get into the second and third spots was much closer.

Barrie (r) celebrating his win with a friend
Our points system is pretty simple, but it always strikes me as strange that someone who finishes 11th out of 5,000 entrants gets the same 1 point as someone who finishes 750th, while those a few places ahead get dramatically more. Something to consider next time maybe. Speaking of which, I might step back next time if someone else is interested in doing these updates.
It was a good year for the UK, punching above its weight in bracelets and final tables, but a spectacularly bad one for Canada, which usually does well. Nipun Java and David Bach won two bracelets each, making it the 18th year in a row that there have been multiple winners. Women's results were disappointing - after some real bracelets last year, all they won this time was the women's event and Liv got a bracelet for watching her partner play the Tag Team, while no women made the top 100 in the Main. The old guard had a surprisingly good Series, but the bracelets were mainly won by the 25-35-y-o pros, with a few throwbacks. James Moore won the same event he won last year. APAT almost had a winner, with Deborah Worley-Roberts taking a silver medal.
The Main Event was more interesting than recent years. I followed the final table updates for the first time in about four years and I'm sure I'm not the only one. This year will mainly be remembered as the year of Hesp, who will sweep up all the endorsements, while the other finalists are likely to largely be forgotten, even more so as we had an instantly forgettable winner. Okay, in fairness, I should mention that the ME was won by.......... er .......... no......sorry, it's gone.
