Jimmy Barnett's reaction to winning the Casino Employees Event was different to the 2019 winner, who promptly withdrew from his dealing commitments for the Series. Jimmy has arranged with his boss to play some and deal some, so everyone should be happy.

A stacked tournament ended up with a loaded final table, but an unknown winner. Klein's recorded tournament winnings prior to this, at $23k, were less than the buy-in for this event, though he is a high-stakes mixed-game player. Virtually everyone else in the tournament was a household name in poker circles, but Klein outlasted them all, having the satisfaction not only of winning, but of sticking a couple of beats on Hellmuth near the end. Phil has said he is targeting a multi-game bracelet this time, and this was a good attempt.

Matthew Ashton returned for this event. Having smashed the WSOP mixed games a few years ago, he seemed to lose interest, so it's good to see him again. All the top British mixed players (Ashton, Chidwick, Glaser, Owen) were present, as were the Germans, so it seems that the pro's have generally managed to find their way to Vegas.

Event 3: $1,000 Covid-19 Relief No Limit Hold'em Charity Event
Winner          Jeremy Ausmus
Runners          260
Paid          39
Final Table          9

Player          Position          Points
Daniel Zack          32          1

Jo 2    1
John 1    1
Stu    1

Entries were surprisingly low for this - maybe the players weren't keen on an event where a percentage of the prize-pool is removed. That percentage was supposed to be 10% of the $1,000 entry fee. With 266 entries, the WSOP worked out that meant $25,000 for charity, so I guess they had a slice before calculating the 10%.
The tournament was a turbo with twenty minute levels, which probably also contributed to the low entries. It turned out to be quite pro-heavy and bracelet-holder Ausmus ended up winning his second.

John 2    1
Rob    1

Drinan and Mizrachi were the big names on the final table and the key moment came in a large pot between these two, when Drinan called a River bluff from Mizrachi, which gave Conor a big lead and left Rob short and he was soon out. on and Gareth cheered Mizrachi on, but it turned out that only one of them had actually chosen him.

Zhi Wu's first WSOP cash was a good one - 1st out of 4,527.

Among the memorable players to cash in this were William Hill, Matthew Stuff, Happy Fitzgerald, Ken Norton, Neo On and Bong Yang.

Sofia Lovgren was 343rd, which is enough reason to feature her in my book.

Some guys have all the luck!

Imagine you get to heads-up out of four and a half thousand players in your first WSOP tournament and you are dealt AA, and manage to get it all in, winning $281k for your $600 buy-in to match your sponsorship deal with Michael Kors. If ever there was a day when Zhi Wu should have tried his luck with Sofia Lovgren, this was it!

The WSOP's results lists are worse than ever this year. I can't remember ever seeing so many gaps or so many repetitions. If you think you have a player who hasn't been credited, let us know.

Who has banked the most cash so far? That's right, it's the WSOP.

Long Ma received an incredible $513k for winning The Reunion. Even more incredible was the $1.038m that the WSOP retained from that one tournament.

Puts UK operators' rake into perspective.

Another win for Canada. Canada used to win plenty of bracelets, but has really underperformed in recent years. It still has many more cashes every year than every country except the US, but they just haven't been able to covert them, to the extent that the three won in 2019 was the highest since the glory days of 2013, when they won ten. 2021 looks like it could be the year that Canada retakes its rightful place.

Rob Mizrachi and Phil Hellmuth were playing their second final tables of the Series and several others already have two or three cashes. Rob was 3rd in #5 (the $1,500 Hi-Lo) and 7th in this, but he wasn't the only one to do well in both. Khamar Xaytavone was 15th in #5 and 9th in this, while Engel cashed 43rd in the $1,500 before winning his second bracelet in this one against a starry field. Ryan Laplante was another to pick up his second cash.

Jon Young used his poker-industry knowledge to build some points.

And what about Hellmuth? Written off years ago by people who didn't know what they talking about, he has continued to perform outstandingly at the World Series and elsewhere. One of the criticisms used to be that he had 'only' won bracelets in big-field Hold-em events, as if there was something wrong with that. That has been put to bed as he has repeatedly scored highly in mixed-game events, crowned by winning a Razz bracelet in 2015. Since then, he has won two WPT titles and been runner-up once, one of the wins being a Heads-Up tournament and the other two events being mixed games. He has also finished 2nd and 3rd in WSOPE mixed events and picked up another large-field Hold'em bracelet. More recently, he has demonstrated his Heads-Up abilities, with numerous one-on-one wins, including whipping Esfandiari and Negreanu three times each. He has played three tournaments in this Series and his worst finish is 18th, with two final tables. Surely everyone now accepts that this is the greatest poker player ever?

A freezeout! That's what a lot of people want nowadays. Whether they want it to be a super-turbo bounty with twenty-minute blinds that completes in one day is another question. Some pro's entered but the later stages consisted of little-known players.

Johnny Moss reached the final table and finished 6th for his first WSOP cash since 1992. Not bad for a 114-year-old.

With 10 tournaments done, these are the players who have cashed for us so far.
Good to see our own Sam Razavi on the scoreboard.

Player    Points           Wins    Final Tables    Cashes
Robert Mizrachi    21           0    2    2
Phil Hellmuth Jr    19           0    2    3
Benny Glaser    18           0    1    1
Benjamin Yu    7           0    1    2
Adam Hendrix    5           0    1    2
Daniel Buzgon    2           0    0    2
Ryan Hughes    2           0    0    2
Ryan Laplante    2           0    0    2
Shannon Shorr    2           0    0    2
Shaun Deeb    2           0    0    2
Cary Katz    1           0    0    1
Christopher Vitch    1           0    0    1
Daniel Negreanu    1           0    0    1
Daniel Zack    1           0    0    1
David "Bakes" Baker    1           0    0    1
Jason Koon    1           0    0    1

Sean Perry    1           0    0    1
Vanessa Kade    1           0    0    1

And these are the ones who haven't scored yet. There was a lot of doubt about which players would turn up for the Series, and some of the selections may be no-shows. But don't worry, your zeros may not be staying away - you might just be bad at picking.

These are the substitutions that were made, giving selectors a chance to remove players who hadn't shown up. The teams will now include the new players, but not any points they scored in Events 1-10.
A Selector's points will show the full points scored in the Series for every player, but the points for Events 1-10 will be deducted on a line called Substitutions. Just one player who is being substituted had scored points, so those will be added to Luca 2's score under Substitutions. Twelve teams didn't make any changes.

Event 11: $25,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold'em Championship
Winner          Jason Koon
Runners          57
Paid          8
Final Table          8

Player          Position          Points
Jason Koon          1          25
Daniel Zack          4          12
Mikita Badziakouski          5          10

Selector    Points
David    25
Simon A    25
Stu    25
Carl 1    12
Gareth    12
Jo 2    12
John 1    12
Barrie 1    10

Jason Koon finally wins a bracelet, though runner-up Gabor Szabo was unlucky a couple of times, but them's the breaks in heads-up. Third-placed Henri Puustinen (better known as online pro 'buttonclicker') benefitted from the delays, as he just passed his 21st birthday and became eligible to play two months ago, and became one of the youngest ever to cash the WSOP. I'm not sure whether he would have been the youngest Vegas bracelet-winner if he'd gone all the way, but it doesn't matter now.

Inspired substituting by Simon enabled him to pick up 25 points from Koon's victory.

Four-time bracelet-winner Michael Gathy started the final table in the lead, but may have made a mistake by giving an interview just before it started, in which he set out his plan to pressurise the other players, who he reckoned wouldn't want to take risks when there were such large pay jumps. It may have cost him, as he ended up losing half his stack when a massive pot-sized River bluff was called by the eventual winner with A5 on a 45JKT board.

Gathy gives way his plan, for which he paid the price: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpoq8_-ERY8

Our own Firaldo just missed reaching another final table, while it seems that Simon's substituting skills aren't always as on-point as his draft of Jason Koon just in time for his victory in #11, as the discarded Elky came good in #13. Bertrand is no longer one of our players, but I've left him in just to irritate Simon.

When Rafael Lebron and his friend Ian Johns learned poker together, his idol was David Williams, runner-up to Greg Raymer in the 2004 Main Event and bracelet-winner in 2006, so it was his dream heads-up to be pitted against Williams. It was less of a dream for Williams, who started short and never improved. Now Johns has three bracelets, Lebron has two and Williams is still stuck on one.

When it came to three players left, there were two players making their first ever WSOP cash (one on his first ever Hendon Mob cash) and Jonathan Baylor on his third cash of this Series. Baylor won.

While it may have been amateur night at the top, there were several well-known players who dropped shortly before the final table, including Jason Stockfish, Hye Park, Melanie Weisner and Blair Hinkle. Stockfish is a case - he reached three final tables between 2016 and 2017 and was runner-up in them all. He made another final in 2019 and guess what - he was 2nd yet again. One more final that year and he finally broke his runner-up curse......by coming fifth. He could be a multiple winner spoken about in hushed tones. Instead, he doesn't have a single bracelet.

It's no surprise for John Monnette to snag another bracelet (numero four) or for John Racener to be in the shake-up. What was a surprise was to see Nate Silver mixing it at this level. Nate is a statistician who founded the FiveThirtyEight website, mainly known for political forecasting. I have watched him on many podcasts and never knew that he's a poker player, and has a few meaty cashes to his name. He was in exalted company here - seven of the final eleven were already bracelet-winners, and only one of the remainder had never graced a WSOP final table before. Eric Kurtzman and Terrance Chan, who finished third and fourth, were amongst the non-winners, but both have been both 2nd and 3rd previously. Jason Somerville, who was 5th, has filled every position from 1-5, while Racener not only has final tables to burn (this was his 18th), but was runner-up in the 2010 Main Event. But Silver came through all of them to heads-up, despite being short early on the FT. Silver and Monnette battled fairly evenly for three hours until Monnette managed to pull away.

$1m for 1st and $500k for 2nd. Not bad. With over 5,000 entries, who gets to the final table is going be somewhat random - so how does Michael Gathy do it? 4th place in this just two days after finishing 3rd out of 720 in #13. That's worth $289k on top of $164k. Vanessa Kade picked up her 3rd cash of the Series.

Now that Vieira has arrived, he is making inroads into the points deficit for Rob.

This event needed an extra day as the heads-up had made little advance after two hours and it was 3am. It took another two hours on the unscheduled Day 4 to finish it.

Peck had to make a major comeback to win his bracelet:

Following yesterday's news that the US is reopening its borders to fully vaccinated travellers from 33 countries on 8 November, the WSOP has added two more Day 1s to the Main Event.

It's the one we've been waiting for.

Tonnes of points here as some of the favourites score highly. Every team except one scored some points, but I won't embarrass them by naming them, so no need to worry Luca.

Zinno won his third bracelet against James Chen, both of them having won seven-figure bracelets before, Zinno winning $1.1m in a $25k PLO and Chen winning €2.8m for a €250k WSOPE NLHE. But that's not what this tournament will be remembered for.

Phil Hellmuth came to the final table as chip leader, but it all went wrong, as the hands kept going the wrong way. Phil let rip, as he has many times before, though I think it's the first time he's done it on a WSOP final. Zinno was the main target, and wasn't bothered at all, but plenty of others were horrified, while some pointed out the penalties that have been imposed on other players for lesser offences, while Hellmuth gets a free pass. Should Hellmuth take a rap for this? Does it add to the entertainment? Do players actually enjoy it? Is the WSOP at fault for condoning it? Do people even care? Is he mad? Are you still reading this?.....

Hard to believe, but they have come up with a tournament even more stupid than the tag team.

The first stage is consists of one hand, with everyone all-in. The table-winner is in the cash and advances to the second stage, which is normal NLHE.

Maybe they thought that, as the first round is a pure gamble, it would give amateurs an equal cashing opportunity with the professionals. In fact, it had the opposite effect. Amateurs wandered off if they lost once or twice, but the pro's who are padding their cashing resumes just kept rebuying until they got through. At $1k per shot, it was an inexpensive way to guarantee a cash, so Negreanu entered nine times and David Williams had nineteen shots before both notched up another cash.

And that's all I've got to say about this nonsense.

Despite not having a win, Phil is unquestionably the star of the show so far, results-wise and otherwise, with three final tables, four cashes and one attempted burning down of the Rio. Rob Mizrachi is our only other player with more than one final table. Shaun Deeb and Dans Buzgon and Zack have also cashed four times, while Zinno, Chad Eveslage and Vanessa Kade have had three, but Ben Yu leads the way by quietly racking up five cashes so far, ie he has cashed in 25% of the tournaments held.

Dylan Linde finally got his bracelet after 85 cashes. Negreanu made a deep run, but ran out of steam. Not many points for anyone here.

Do you want to play mixed games like Dylan Linde, who won the Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better bracelet? Now you can!

This is the first event where none of us got any points. There were pro players in this, but I don't really recognise many names near the end. JJ Liu was 5th, while Sofia Lovgren and Ebony Kenney also cashed. Third-placed Mikiyo Aoki was runner-up in this same event in 2014.

Kitty Kuo broke the Girl Code with this Tweet and got some blowback for not supporting women etc.

On the one hand, yeah support women. On the other, when men are told not to play this event because there are women playing who are intimidated to play against men and this is their chance to play, this is a much weaker-than-normal field.

Ebony Kenney went straight from the Women's event to The Orleans to beat a field of 1,135 players. There is talent among the women players.

Drinan has earned a lot of points for Michael already and came within touching distance of his second bracelet of the year. It's a shame he didn't get it, as it means that his most memorable moment will remain the time he wrongly accused an amateur who beat him in the Heads-Up event of cheating. I had Hughes and Zack, but on different teams.

Drinan doing the shoulder touch. A lot of players do this, but I can't tell you why. I've been trying for years to find out what this is about.

Two faces of double bracelet-holder Brett Shaffer, who finished third in the 8-Game. Set the alarm ten minutes earlier when you're scheduled for the final table Brett.

A well-balanced final table. Zack, Drinan, Shaffer and Hughes on one side; Leng and Schuyler Thornton on the other.

Over 1,500 entrants, and we only got one into the money. It's not all our fault - a few other pro players took a shot, but didn't last in this one, so there were hardly any well-known players in the shake-up. John Bunch, who was 8th, has had some big results previously and five cashes so far, including 4th in #12, but otherwise the final table was a resume-free zone.

Another final table for Racener, while perennial cashers Kade, Yu, Negreanu & Laplante also weighed in. We haven't seen anything from Seidel til now, but now he's on the scoreboard. He's just the type that could win a bracelet from nowhere. No-one has Moorman in their team since he was substituted out, but I decided to leave him on the list to annoy you when he makes a final. That's bracelet-winner and 81-time WSOP casher Moorman. Please yourselves.

Galen Hall reached heads-up, having arrived straight from the Silver Dollar Saloon in Dodge City. It was quite a change of image from his last final table.

My greatest moment. Maurice Hawkins is the Phil Hellmuth of the WSOP Circuit, with the record number of rings and an unlikeable personality. He has 14 rings and zero bracelets. It is quite strange that he has only made four WSOP final tables, with a highest finish of 6th, contrasting dramatically with his Circuit record.

i was delighted to see that Levi Klump had his first WSOP cash in 8th. What a fantastic name. Here's hoping he has lots more. Even better was German player Axel Reese in 12th - just one letter away from the best name ever.

Two bracelets in five days!
Although there were almost 600 entrants, several of the top mixed-game players were there near the end. Zinno was heads-up against Randy Ohel and Pescatori also reached the final table, while Brock Parker, Joe McKeehen and Roland Israelashvili just missed it. Ari Engel was also chasing his second bracelet of the year, but fell in 10th place.

Another poker coach wins. Chance is the founder of "Chip Leader Coaching", which includes Nick Petrangelo among its coaches. Kornuth was 4th in this event last time but went three better to clinch it.

Nice picking by Carl.

The best thing about this tournament was that Hellmuth wasn't involved, so Chance was able to enjoy his moment without Phil stealing his limelight.

Well done to the winner, but what an incredible performance by Ryan Leng to come second in a three and a half thousand field just four days after winning the 8-Game (when he was the one to stop Connor Drinan getting the double). This was another Amateur Night, with very few big names down the field.

Michael Noori's victory party for the Monster Stack look like they've all been photoshopped in - especially the man with the enormous head.

It was the one we were waiting for. What a night for Phil - and for everyone. Getting to yet another final table was remarkable - he is reaching the final of everything he plays. Though this was a $1,500, it was pro-heavy and virtually all of the final table had a big history, with others like Reiss, Bojang and Imsirovic just missing it. Once it reached the final four, it seemed any of them could win., with Hellmuth, Vitch and Porter all being big-hitters in mixed, while Schwartz has made a bunch of finals before and was more than holding his own, leading for most of the final session. Porter and Vitch went almost together and suddenly Phil was heads-up for another one. It took over two hours more of back and forth until he took it for the 16th time. Phil was already the only player to win bracelets in four different decades - now it's five.

Loads of points all round, and even more for Jo. Every year she includes Vitch and Shack-Harris in her teams (the only one who ever picks Vitch) and they usually bring her a nice bonus against the field. Dario gave Luca some much-needed points and everyone had Hellmuth. Well, almost everyone.

It's been a bad year for Negreanu so far, but he finally got some traction here. Same goes for Elezra, though I assume he plays a smaller schedule. A lot of people were pleased to see Maria Ho reach the final table.

An ominous result for everyone as Barrie tops the list. He has started late and run it in previously, so it's always a concern when he starts scoring.

Tiffany Michelle tweeted about 'wifey' Ho making the FT. There have been rumours for more than a decade that these two are a couple, which they have done nothing to discourage. Who care whether it's true or not - that's tonight's fantasy sorted!

This would have been a completely forgettable tournament except for one thing. The final table consisted entirely of anonymous nonentities, none of whom had ever bothered a final previously. It would have been a total snore if Heads-Up didn't turn out to be a battle of Rans. Two Israelis reached the final, Ran Koller and Ran Ilani, and everyone not connected with the other players was hoping to see a Ran v Ran finale. There were times when it looked like Florian or Oleg might spoil things, so there was relief all round when Florian was eliminated in third and we had our Ran on Ran. Ran had been chip-leader throughout the final, whereas Ran had been bumping along the bottom. In the end, Ran ran really well to overcome Ran, whereas it has to be said that Ran ran not so well. And so it was Ran 1 and Ran 2 from 2,778 runners.

Bakes finally got another bracelet. He won a couple a decade ago and then had a second place but had quite a lull until he reached heads-up twice more in 2018 and 2019, so this win is overdue. Nice pick by Rob.

Another tournament where nothing happened. The top five finishers had two WSOP cashes between them, and they were by the same player. Not final tables - cashes.  If you're going to set up $500 tournaments, you needn't  expect the pro's to play them.

This tournament was always going to be one of the highlights of the Series, but the way it played out made it the single most memorable so far. We expect to find some of the world's top players in this, but it was memorable to see three of the most iconic players - Hellmuth, Negreanu and Matusow - get to the end and play on the same table. The final table was unreal. As well as Phil & Mike, there was Jake Schwartz, who was heads-up with Hellmuth a few days earlier, former Player of the Year Mike Gorodinsky, and Adam Friedman, who won this event in both 2018 and 2019 and was going for three-in-a-row. It also included Ruth Fuchs, but I'm not going to do my "Who doesn't?" joke this year as people have seen it before. Friedman and Hellmuth ending up heads-up was the icing on the cliche, with history-making guaranteed either way. Nic was the only one to include Glantz and topped the list, with four of the top nine on his team.

This event saw the power of the grass-roots players being exercised for once. PokerGo was given broadcast rights by the WSOP and set a schedule of final tables it would show, which didn't go down well as it skipped some key tournaments contested by the stars in favour of NLHEs between random nobodies. There was widespread resentment that it missed Hellmuth's win, and when he reached the final of this in good shape, along with a starry final two tables, the protests became loud. The audience begged for even some video without commentary and, after first refusing, PokerGo provided just that, though it did manage to organise some limited commentary by Esther Taylor and others. The audience was initially grateful for the change of heart, and then began criticising the coverage.

Matusow was Hellmuth's lead supporter in his heads-up battle, advising him and rubbing his arms during a break. So it was a bit surprising to see Friedman's victory group photo, Who's that slipping in at the side?

Andrew Kelsall reached the final table of both Dealer's Choice tournaments, finishing 2nd back in the $1,500 (#2) and 6th now in the $10k. There is definitely a knack to this, with Raymond Henson, who was 3rd in the $1,500 also finishing 11th in the $10k. Kelsall's outfits for the two finals were completely different, yet I'm sensing a theme.

Is Michael Addamo the best NLHE tournament player in the world? A case could certainly be made for it. He had possibly the best tournament results of anyone in 2020, and is doing the same this year, with possibly the best run of results ever seen. His big betting style, sometimes over-betting the pot, is designed to win or bust, and it has been win after win in the High Rollers for Addamo. He built a massive stack in this, starting the nine-handed final day with 11.5m of the 25m chips in play. Great picking by Michael, who had the top three in his team.

Michael Addamo's extraordinary run of results in the last month.

Kevin Gerhart may not be as well known as some others in this field, where nearly everyone was a big name, but his win is no shock. He won a Razz bracelet in 2019 and an online one last year in PLO.  This is his fifth cash of the Series, having finished 16th of both the Dealer's Choice and the Stud $1,500's and was on the final table when Hellmuth won his 2-7 bracelet. He has just started playing $10k's but has clearly got what takes. If you want someone for your team next time who will score points and not many others will have, you could do worse than Gerhart.

After two online PLO bracelets, Ruben's first live bracelet is in Razz. He is still trying to claim to be a novice at Razz, but he was third in this same event in 2017. He had a familiar face to keep him company - David 'ODB' Baker, who was second that day, was fifth in this.

Robert Campbell is in da house. Watch out!

A double stack four-day tournament with a $1k buy-in and 4,000 entries - it's not surprising that pro's were scarce. We had two cashes out of 600, which rounds to 0%. Amazingly, Chris had both of them. Laser-sharp picking is one way of looking at it. Another is an ability to choose the pro's who are willing to waste four days on a wild goose chase. Gratz on the points.

Snare a bracelet on your first cash - that's the way to do it. Ryan Hansen's win was no fluke though - he is a Limit Hold'em specialist who can be found playing cash LH at the Borgota next time you're in town. Raymond Henson was ninth, and for a minute I thought he had won it, which would have been nice as he has had numerous final tables but has never won a bracelet. This was his sixth cash this Series, including coming 3rd and 11th in the two Dealer's Choice tournaments. He has also cashed four times in the Main Event, with a best finish of 12th. Yeah, it wasn't him. Matusow is still a crack tournament player despite all his issues.

It's almost expected now for players who have won their fourth or fifth bracelet and their apostles to hold up the related number of fingers. I'm not so sure it's a thing when you've won one.

He did it! After losing heads-up in #39 (also PLO), Tommy Le came straight back to win this. After a few early NLHE cashes (including two top-100 results in the Main Event), Le has specialised in PLO and, apsrt from another ME result, his last fourteen cashes have all been in PLO. He has finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in previous years. Just can't crack that 4th place. Jeremy Ausmus came close to a second bracelet of the Series, finishing fifth. Daniel Zack, Mike Matusow and Dylan Linde keep missing the final table. Zack and Matusow both had their second teens finish in #44 and their third in #45, while Linde was in the teens in #40 and #45.

Jordan Spurlin, who was second, is a Pro Super Smash Bros Melee and Project M Player. As you known, Project M is a development of Brawl to make it more like Melee, and remains the most popular gameplay mod of Brawl in tournament settings.

Third-place Chris Sandrock owns the Sunset Casino in Montana and has possibly the greatest record at the WSOP, having cashed regularly across the last 26 years, never finishing lower than 12th! He was 12th in 1995, 7th in 2002, 10th in 2007 and now has a 3rd place on his record after cashing yet again.

For the second time, Gershon Distenfeld has donated all of his winnings to charity. Last year it was $125k for finishing 8th in the online Main Event. For winning this tournament, he won $204k and has donated that. He has also asked all winners to donate 1% of their winnings to charity. I'm sure plenty will be fine with this, but I'm always uncomfortable about public donations of poker winnings, and even more so when pressure is put on others to do likewise. Gershon M. Distenfeld isn't just rich. He is Senior Vice President at AllianceBernstein, an investment firm with $738bn under its management, and is a proper gold-plated super-mega squillionare, who could donate this amount regularly without noticing. It seems he is embarrassed to be seen taking a prize he doesn't need. Just give quietly and don't pressurise others Gershon.

Farzad Bonyadi got his fourth bracelet after a sixteen-year gap and revealed that he hadn't played poker for two years before this tournament. Negreanu finally reached a final table, while Justin Schwartz was at his fifth of this Series.

We had our annual visit from Shawn Sheikhan, who used to liven up tables a decade ago, but now seems to only play this event, the $10k NL 2-7. He didn't seem to play at all between 2014 and 2018, and I thought he had been banned by the WSOP, but then he finished fifth in 2018. And this time he was ninth, so he still has poker ability.

$600 buy-in is all you need to know and you can fill in the rest - a few pro's played, most didn't, there were none near the end. Some guy beat some other guy heads-up.

This was Robert McMillan's tenth cash at the WOSP and four of them have come in the Seniors. Until 2019, he had never cracked the top 100 of a tournament, but then he finished 31st in the Closer, which was his springboard to this - 1st out of 5,400 players. That 2019 tournament near the end of the last proper Series was a weird portent of what was to come this year. So far, five of the players finishing in the top 33 that time have won bracelets this year (Carlos Chang 4th, Shaun Deeb 7th, Ryan Leng 18th, Robert McMillan 32nd, Brian Rast 33rd). If I go down to 55th, that scoops up Dylan Linde and Ari Engel as well for seven future braceletees. Spooky or what, especially at Halloween!

It always seems that Shaun Deeb could win a tournament at any time, and here he has brought one in. So far as I'm aware, he has got to this stage of the Series without getting into a Twitter war with anyone, which is another achievement for him. Shaun is never one to underestimate his own ability, and he was true-to-form by informing us afterwards that he is targeting Hellmuth's record, and gives himself a couple of decades to do it. The way he turns up a size larger every year suggests that he also has a good chance of challenging Raymer's record in that timescale. Maybe he'll do both, so long as he retains his appetite for the game.

Nick Julia, a web developer and IT VP from Arizona, held a massive lead going into the final day, with more than twice as many chips as the second-placed player. It was still a tough assignment with eight bracelet-holders among his sixteen opponents. Seven of them would fall before the final table, with two of them, Kenny Hsiung and Robert Mizrachi, going out on the same hand, but Mizrachi was assigned sixth place and a lot more points. Only three of the players eliminated from fifteenth to sixth place couldn't have put a bracelet on the table. One of them, tenth placed pro Matt Vengrin, has expressed his intention of winning 10 WSOP bracelets in his career and is currently just 10 short of completing his ambition.

With nearly 10,000 entries to a $400 tournament, you don't expect to find bracelet-winners in the shake-up, but you'd be wrong. Brett Apter was 26th, Barbara Enright 25th and Carlos Chang 18th. Anatoliy Zyrin outlasted everyone, though, to win his second bracelet.
You might also not expect our selectors to find point-scorers in this event, but one of them found two!

You can't keep Chainsaw out of the news. He got irritated by a slow player and made a couple of dodgy tweets.
He has had plenty of feedback, generally supporting his stance on slow play, but split between those whose call him xenophobic and those who label this an overreaction.

This was Ben's 10th cash of the Series, though only his second final table. Joanne "JJ" Liu, who was 13th, has also cashed 10 times, with just one final, but Jake Schwartz seems to be showing up in everything and this was his 12th cash, with an amazing five finals, finishing 2nd, 3rd twice, 5th and 7th.

Brian Yoon won his fourth bracelet, and by far his cheapest one, worth only $240k. His previous wins have all been stonkers. He beat fields of 4,700 and 6,700 to win the Little Drop for One Drop for $664k and the Monster Stack for $1.094m, plus a $5k for $633. He has also cashed in five of the last nine Main Events, with most of them being very high finishes - 58th, 60th, 41st and 111th. Lately, he has veered towards 2-7, with three of his last four cashes coming in this game.

Wil Wilkinson, who finished third, is a No Limit 2-7 specialist, but has also cashed the Main Event five times, including being 17th, 25th and 51st. He only has 17 cashes in total, with five in MEs and seven in No Limit 2-7. Wil has no bracelet, but could been a name on everyone's lips if a few cards had landed differently, with finishes in 2nd, 3rd (x 3), 4th, 5th and 7th, with the 5th being in the $50k Players Championship.

Co-incidentally, Jordan Siegel in 7th has also cashed the Main Event four times.

There is the Seniors, and then there is the Super Seniors, which is a whole different thing, with its own style of play, and dress, and finding your way back to your table after the toilet break.

Barry Greenstein, Ken Aldridge, Bill Klein and Jack McClelland all played, but the unquestioned star of the show was Doyle Brunson, who showed up for another last tournament. There weren't many well-known names in the cashes, though Sammy Farha and Dan Shak both finished in the top 100.

Jean-Luc Adam, who won the tournament, was late to the game of poker, being taught by his son a couple of years ago. He taught him too well, as they went to St. Maarten for a WSOP Circuit Series in 2019 and Jean-Luc won an event and a WSOP Circuit ring. His son Cedric won one as well less than a week later, but he was still beaten to it by Jean-Luc. Cedric finished 10th out of 2,778 in #33 (the Ran-Ran event) but Jean-Luc has outshone him once again.

We had no-one in the points.

Sammy Farha finished Day 1 as one of the leaders, and ended up 66th, so clearly he can still play.
He wan't looking like the stereotypical Sammy we know though. He has changed hugely in appearance in just a few years.

Also cashing in the Super Seniors was David Dao, the doctor who was assisted in leaving a plane a few years ago, after refusing to leave an overbooked flight as he was scheduled to open a hospital. He ended up with concussion, a broken nose, missing teeth and an undisclosed settlement rumoured to be nine figures. I'm planning to fly United Airlines whenever possible in the hope of a repeat incident.

It was interesting to see Nipun Java and Nikita Luther, 2017 and 2018 winners of the Tag Team, both from India, finishing near the top once again with new partners, with Nikita getting really close in 15th place.

Pro's were scarce in the results of this event, the most notable being the Xuan Liu / Melanie Weisner team that finished 18th.

Most interest in this event centred around the team that finished third, the father-daughter combo of David & Amanda Botfeld, the amateurs with no WSOP cashes who stole the show. While that much is true, Amanda is far from the poker innocent she has been painted. She has written a poker book A Girl's Guide to Poker, as well as several articles about poker on CardsChat https://www.cardschat.com/news/author/abotfeld/.

She is Senior Instructor & Curriculum Coordinator at Poker Power (aka Poker Powher) https://pokerpower.com/, "a community led by women for women with the primary goal of utilizing the game of poker to build confidence, challenge the status quo, learn strategy and assess risk". “It's really about teaching capital allocation, strategy, risk and giving women the practice and the time to build confidence at the table, because the poker table is like the boardroom table.” Poker Power's Advisory Board consists of Jennifer Shahade and none other than Xuan Liu and Melanie Weisner, so this event was a triumph for Poker Power and gave them all a chance to catch up and discuss fashion and hairstyles and stuff girls like.

The most prestigious event of the Series started with four players. It's a good job they showed up. 43 players had entered by the end of Day 1 and 39 went through, with Jake Schwartz and previous PPC Champion Matthew Ashton amongst the four casualties. Another 20 joined on Day 2 to make one of the smallest fields of the Series. A few players signed into their first event of the year, but reigning champ Phillip Hui wasn't amongst them and remains absent this year.

The biggest talking point was a fold made by Ryan Leng when the game was three-handed. He had check-called a bet on the Flop after hitting his A. He bet 600k on the river and then folded when Cates moved in for 300k more. Leng had the biggest stack at the time and was getting 11-1 on the call, but put Cates on two pair and folded. In fact, it seems that Cates didn't put Leng on an A, and was value-betting his K. Leng has been severely criticised, and has admitted that it was a mistake to fold, putting it down to tiredness caused by lack of physical fitness.

Event 61: $600 No Limit Hold'em Deepstack Championship

Twenty-two-year-old Cole Ferraro had his first ever recorded cash in September, winning $4.7k for finishing 7th in a $400 tournament at the Wynn. He is now playing his first WSOP and it's going okay.

He started by winning $13k for a 58th-place finish out of 5,326 in the Millionaire Maker, but that was just for warm-ups. He then entered the $1k Freezeout, which attracted 1,358 entries, and two days later he was heads-up with the chip lead. Holding KK, he got Dalibor Dula all-in pre-flop with A5, and almost closed it but for an Ace on the River. Cole ended up as runner-up, banking $123k. He had a couple of small cashes since and now he's won the Deepstack against almost 4,000 players for a cool $252k.

A new star has been discovered, and he has the bucks to enter whatever he wants, though all his results so far have been in big field low buy-ins. Cole is near the top of the Player of the Year table and is heading the No Limit Hold'em Leaderboard. And he would have even more points and two bracelets if it wasn't for an unlucky River. Not a bad first Series.

588 players cashed in this and we didn't have any of them.

A second bracelet of the Series for Kevin Gerhart, bringing him up to four in total. He has won at both ends, a $10k and a $1,500. This guy has more bracelets in him.

This was another close one for runner-up Dustin Dirksen, who was 4th in #49, the $10k NL2-7. In the past, he has been 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th and now he's had two more top-four results, but the bracelet is still getting away. Surely he'll get there sooner or later.

This was a rare visit to live poker for Eelis Pärssinen. All you high-stakes online PLO regs will know that EEE27 is a two-time Supernova Elite who has been hugely successful at the highest stakes and was the biggest winner in PLO cash games on PokerStars in 2018-2019. In 2020, he won the online EPT Super High Roller for $540k and recorded five top-3 finishes in five days in Party's PLO Poker Masters, including winning the Super High Holler for $440k. He also has plenty of NLHE results, including taking down the FTOPS Main Event. We probably won't see him again for a while.

His heads-up opponent, Noah Bronstein, has been 4th three times and 3rd three times in bracelet events, but never higher, so it was a step forward to record his first 2nd place. It's nice to see a player making progress.

You can tell the Main Event was coming up after this, with previous ME stars, who haven't been around much this year, showing up in the cashes, including Hossein Ensan, Cliff Josephy and Chino Rheem.

The Main Event is getting to the business end now.

Notable players still in include Chidders riding high in 4th place, Chance Kornuth, Keith Lehr, Matt Berkey, Eric Blair, Hye Park, Nick Petrangelo, Pete Chen, Jason Koon, Ken Aldridge, Justin Liberto, Matt Waxman and Jeremy Joseph, and two former champions, Qui Nguyen and Chris Moneymaker.

The dream debut continues for Cole Ferraro, top of the NLHE League with a 1st and a 2nd under his belt already, sitting nicely in 12th place.

Well known UK/Ireland players Alex Goulder, Toby Lewis, Jack Oliver, Rory Brown and David Lappin are also still there.

Nice couple of weeks for Arieh, winning the $1,500 PLO, coming 6th in the Players Championship and winning the $10k PLO8 for combined winnings of $850k. He's more of a PLO player, but can turn his hand to Hi-Lo when needed. The PPC was the one he really wanted, having been runner-up last time, but that will have to wait. He can console himself with the four bracelets he has now won. He said he wants to get into the Hall of Fame and this might be what he needed, though I'm not so sure it's enough any more, with so many third/fourth/fifth bracelets now being won.

The last three players had all already had big results this year, with third-placed Anatolii Zyrinas having beaten close to 10,000 players to win the Colossus and runner-up Danny Chang coming third in the Casino Employees tournament, so there was going to be a good story no matter who won.

There was controversy on the final table in a big hand between John Monnette and Esther Taylor. Taylor's final card hit her chips and flipped over, showing a 3, which would have given her a low and a chop, and Monnette asked for her card to be replaced, though she said she was going to flip it anyway. After a delay, the ruling went Monnette's way and she was given a new card, which didn't help and left her on fumes. This looked terrible by Monnette, possibly even an angle-shoot. On the other hand, it could be argued that a replacement card is standard. Eventual runner-up Peder Berge knew what he thought: "That's as bad a ruling as I've ever seen." Monnette, who has always been a nasty piece of work, known as "Angry John" for always berating dealers and loudly informing the whole room about his bad luck, has tried to improve his image in recent years, but this won't help.

With Carol Fuchs and Taylor reaching the final table, this was the best chance we've seen for a female winner, but it wasn't to be, and there still hasn't been one this year outside the women-only event.

Scott Ball joins the growing group who have won two bracelets here, having already won the $5k 6-max. There were 604 entrants in that and almost 3,797 in this, which adds up to...er...a lot of players he has beaten.

This puts Scott at the top of the NLHE Leaderboard and second on the overall POY, though he believes he can't win that as a Hold'em-only player.

Third-placed Sorel Mizzi used to get a few picks from our selectors, but not any more due to non-delivery. He would have scored for you here, though.

Scott Ball, who has now won two bracelets, used to be Global Head of Poker Partnerships at Twitch, and left to follow his own vision. He is now President of End Game Talent, which "connects content creators, brands, game developers and publishers with communities through creative and strategic live media campaigns". If you know what any of that means, let me know.

Mourad Amokrane is a French optician who played this because he failed to satellite into the Main. Matt Mamiya, an architectural designer from Seattle, had an opportunity for a glorious comeback, starting heads-up with 350,000 chips against Amokrane's 21,150,000, ie a 60-1 deficit. He failed to give us a dramatic story, however, losing the rest in the first hand.

Motoyoshi Okamura had no previous recorded live cashes, apart from a small score in the Colossus, so it seemed a bit odd to see that he had taken on the killers in the Aria High Rollers last week and came 2nd and 4th, beating the likes of Chidwick, Sam Soverel, Alex Foxen, Eelis Pärssinen and Juan Pardo Dominguez. It turns out that Okamura is none other than falcon8808, WPT Online title-winner.

Main Event finalist Jerry Wong had to be satisfied with being a November Tenner this time, falling just before the final table.

David Moses isn't your typical amateur player. He is a big winner on Global Poker with a huge ROI. Yet he is playing on a site that he claims is severely rigged, but he knows the rigs and has posted them repeatedly on forums. Probably the worst one is that losing players will lose more slowly on that site, resulting in an increased amount of their loss going in rake, which should be going to winning players.

There are quite a few in-game rigs - one interesting one is to fold KK pre if it's within three hands before or after a break as AA is nearly always there. He also says to avoid playing there on Sunday as that's when they feed the fish. I've no idea whether what he says is true - he plays as rUeTaMa (spell it backwards), so you can check him out if you want.

Runner-up Sejin Park has the knack against big fields. In 2019 he beat a field of over 13,000 to win The Colossus, so getting to heads-up from a field of over 5,200 is nothing to him, but he couldn't close it out this time.

And what an achievement by Leonid Yanovski, who was 4th in #72 and 5th in this, despite them both starting on the same day. Leonid finished his business on the final day of #72 at 5.30pm, and jumped into the third Day 1 of this, which had begun at noon, and ended the day with the 4th largest stack of 100 survivors from the day's 2,241 entrants.

David (rUeTaMa) Moses became known as 'The Global Grinch' due to his unhappiness with the site, and then adopted the persona.

Like him or not, and a lot don't, he's got the goods when it comes to poker, and he joins the ever-expanding five-bracelet club by beating one of the strongest fields imaginable.Top points for Karen.

Hastings is oblivious to almost impaling his hot AF wife, Miami-based ex poker dealer Sonya, at the WSOP.

"What was it that first attracted you to the millionaire Brian Hastings?"

Denis Strebkov is none other than aDrENalin710, the greatest player in WCOOP history with nine titles.  This is his second bracelet - he won Event #87 at the end of the 2019 Series and this is his first cash this year, so his record shows successive firsts. ME finalist Jerry Wong followed tenth in #72 with second in this.

Scott Bohlmann won this event in 2018, was 8th in it in 2019 and 9th this year, so it looks like he's on the slide.

Chad Himmelspach had a bad time on Day 1 and was down to one BB near the end, though he managed to increase this to 9BB to finish the day 107th out of 118.
Day 2 was completely different, and he multiplied his stack from 89,000 to 4 million, to sit 4/8 going into the final day.
Day 3 was even better.

Romain Lewis finally gets his bracelet! In 2018 Romain was 2nd twice and 3rd twice, so it was extra sweet for him to nail this win against a top field. The French provided one of the noisiest rails so far for the 'Champion du Monde'.
2019 Main Event runner-up Dario finally kicked in a few points and it was good to see Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who has been quiet for a couple of years, back on a final table.
It was a miss for Jo as others picked up points. The beginning of the crumble?

Benny sometimes seems to have an untouchable quality, as he frequently runs up a huge stack. He used to convert that into a win quite easily, though the ability to close seemed to have deserted him, and it was five years since his last bracelet, despite numerous finals and top three finishes. In this Series, he has clocked up 2nd, 3rd and 9th places, which were disappointments, as he had big leads in them all. Now he has done it, and collected his 4th bracelet.
The points are starting to flow now. Can Jo hold Stephen off?

11th place in the $10k Razz went to Shirley Rosario.
Shirley's other pastime is rollerball, so would you prefer a shot of her with the poker players or the rollerballers?
Don't answer. Here's the photo. Shirley is centre, looking back.

There was a time when Schemion used to get quite a few picks from our selectors, but those days are long gone, as he never repaid them. Well here he is now, and no-one has picked him.

Vieira seems to be on every results list. He cashed in five of the nine tournaments from #71 to #79 - unfortunately they were all quite lowly results, so all that effort generated a total of just five points.

It was Brit against Brit as the Robert Cowen from Swansea and Robert Emmerson from Middlesborough went head to head. Cowen had come straight from finishing 39th in the Main Event, his third cash in that tournament, while Emmerson is an online pro with hardly any live cashes, his only four-figure score being £2,600 for coming 47th at DTD.

Uri Reichenstein kicked up a storming end to the Series with two six-digit results for 4th in #76 and 3rd in this - so close to winning two bracelets in short order.

I'm not going to go deep into the Main here. A lot has been said elsewhere. There were a couple of odd hands that fell into the winner's lap, one being when Alejandro Lococo, sitting in second place, donated his entire stack to the leader and the other being the final hand, which George Holmes played very strangely. The heads-up between Aldemir and Holmes divided watchers into those who wanted a 'proper' poker pro to win, no matter how boring, and those who fancied a rec taking it down for the story that would result and the effect that might have on the poker masses and the general population. The pro won so, despite winning the rec winning $4.3m, there isn't a story.

None of our guys cashed.

This was almost the heads-up that a lot of people would have cherished. Could Phil go all the way and bank another bracelet, and catch up in POY? It was his third heads-up this year, but it didn't quite come off, though he did set another record, this time for the most final tables ever in a Series. Ausmus won his second bracelet, having taken #3 a lifetime ago.

Negreanu got close once again but the bracelet drought continues. It's now eight years since he won one of any kind, and thirteen years since he won one in Vegas. Will he ever win one again? He does still get opportunities, so maybe there's still a chance.

I think this was our highest-scoring event ever. We have had multiple finalists before, but I don't think they have ever been on so many teams. A lot of points were scored by a lot of people, but almost everyone picked up roughly the same total, so there was little effect on the race.

Negreanu again! If he had done this sooner, he would have been a contender for POY.

Badziakouski had a 5th place earlier, but this is better, though he claims that he's not really bothered about the bracelet - he just wants to win HRs. Hmmmm, I always doubt people who claim things like this.  Ren Lin had a 3rd place earlier, and now a 2nd. The bracelet will have to wait.

Stephen's result here moves him ahead of Jo by ONE POINT.

Addamo's extraordinary playing style continues to pay off. He continually provokes huge pots, even when he doesn't have hands. His high-risk play often leads to him having unbelievable stacks that are multiples of everyone else. It happened earlier in the Series and it happened again here. It is dependent on him winning pots when he is called and, not to put too fine a point on it, he sucked out something rotten time after time in this tournament. Still, his style has resulted in him winning numerous high rollers and four bracelets, two of them this year. There were points here for lots of our selectors, including 4 for Barrie with Badziwhatsit, but none for our leaders, so the field closes up.

Nice for Kolev to win the final event but what a performance by Uri Reichenstein to come 2nd of 531, on top of 4th of 307 in #76 and 3rd of 496 in #80. Three top-four results in a week, but what a shame he didn't get a win. Still, the $575k winnings, plus another $100k from some of the other tournaments, should help him to get over it.

Not many points here for our selectors, so who has won?

What makes a great team? Jo, Stephen and Jo had five players in common, Zinno, Yu, Negreanu, Hellmuth and Deeb, all of whom scored highly, so the competition revolved around their other selections.

Jo and Stephen also shared Glaser, while Stephen and Jo had Monnette in common. Jo has been a big fan of Shack-Harris and Vitch, selecting them every year, always picking up points that no-one else has. She combined them with Racener and Zack to complete a winning team where the lowest scorer added 25 points.

Chidwick brought plenty of points for Stephen, but Volpe and Eveslage let him down a bit, particularly Eveslage who only scored another 4 points after being substituted in after 10 events.

Jo was some way behind the big two, her other players being Imsirovic (Jr), Owen, Johnson and Zhu, of whom only Johnson justified his place.
